You can totally do this! Abandon Etchu. This may mess up your food because you upgraded the castle. Those couple troops can really help. Not sure if you did but try to upgrade the roads between Kaga and Echizen. So melee troops can move between between both towns in one turn. A couple crazy defenses then you can start to go on the attack! Your troops are superior. 1/2 stacks can take out full stacks of the enemy if not more than full stacks. It’s all about surviving until you can start recruiting and you’re there. Of course you may have already recorded in advance where this comment means nothing but you can totally do this!
You know, the most sadistic challenge would be Fall of the Samurai, Matchlock Kachi only. God, that unit is so bad... Or a rather amusing one, which is Yari Ashigaru only. The flood of cheap, unarmored spearmen shall conquer all of Japan!
I believe you can bring your army inside by selecting the general and alt+right click in your warrior monk. Minute 41.00 IMHO after aiming strategy of defence we take straight to Equal fields and tax reform. And focus building army in kaga
Also if you press end battle immediately without continuing the battle, as long as your units are still engaged or close to the enemy the auto-calc wipes a lot of the enemy army - in the case of a siege as long as they can't retreat outside of your town's zone of control they are automatically destroyed post battle as well
Awesome Campaign !! I guess it would be better to defend your Fertile/very fertile Towns and Level up the castles. Kaga is a chokepoint that blocks everything from east, so you can choose to abandon that Jimbo town and move everything back to Kaga. Expand to the west instead. Epanding east opens you to attack from multiple directions. Hattori is off fighting with Oda. Asai town is ripe for the picking. Thinking about it, inciting rebellions in this campaign isn't a good tradeoff. One spends $1500-1750 and only get to hold that town for like 1-2 turns as entire army/non Monk units are disbanded instantly, which then falls to enemy. That ikko monk can be utilized to maintain public order instead and give defending garrison army morale. Also, don't sink money into leveling up ports, nobody wants to trade with the ikko. Cancel that port construction in Jimbo town if possible. In case you have to restart, forget about building bow warrior monks initially and rush the farm tech instead to level up your castles for that free Garrison/extra walls. Build market + Sake Den in Echizen for extra income. (Spending money on these is like a failed Revolt attempt (~$1500)) You gotta have fortress/castles to repel those doom stacks from the biggies. Just turtle up for initial 10-20 turns (In starting 2 provinces) till your Garrison can defend the town by itself and only then move out (Turn taxes to High, horde the extra cash, fight rebellions to level up your generals). Good luck with this super hard campaign
for the battle you're starting with on the next eps, a tactic you can do is to bait the archers with 1 general (aggro them, then go to them back and forth in walk speed to keep the aggro), then you just charge them with the other general, instant routing. the archers will only focus on your first general that was aggroed on. this should save you a couple of men for the naginata monks
For Ikko I think you should consider the unique Ikko general tree and build the temples. Each rank of temple gives an extra free unit of naginata warrior monk garrison as well as adding to happiness, which IMO is better than the 100 wealth and happiness from a Sake den. Moreover the Ikko general tree gives bonuses to morale and reduces upkeep greatly which are both great bonuses for the units you're fielding. Just some food for thought
When I saw this video, I confused about What is the ' monk cavalry '? And why the monk ride de horse? After some minutes thinking, I realised DAT es the Templar Knight of the Japan. The Templar and Christianity Holy Order is called the armed monk organization in the CK2. How to make ikko ikki sounds cool. LOL
It seems kind of odd how cavalry, which are some of the most expensive units in the game, are pretty strongly countered by the cheapest and lowest-tier unit in the game (Yari Ashigaru). While cavalry is great for running down broken/shattered units, taking out unguarded artillery, and charging the rear of committed units, the fact that an uncommitted unit of cheap Yari Ashigaru can pretty much no-sell multiple cavalry units is pretty crazy.
From a gameplay perspective, rock paper scissors mechanic adds extra depth to the gameplay or else everyone will just spam the most expensive units. That wouldn't be a fun game. A real life example that i could think of is javelin missile can take down multi millions chopper.
@@RG-hx8uc Youre right about that. A single bullet can kill an untrained civilian just as good as a special ops soldier who is bascially trained to be a war machine.
Seams like a hard challenge w/ monk only. I enjoyed this amazing game back in the day. Really like to do minimum taxes and maximum food strategy. (Chi route.) This creates big cities whose tax income match the two other main sources of income in the game. Trade and Tradeships. Need the agents though from the other clans that can rise tax levels in towns.
At some point you should do a challenge run for the Huntsmaster's faction from Warhammer 2 where you only use archers, hunters, and hunter lords with exception to the unique heroes and the supplies that are shipped to your colony periodically. I think it might be interesting
I don’t mean to be a negative Nancy, but I don’t think this challenge is possible on legendary. They ai is too aggressive, doesn’t accept peace even when you wipe out their army, and can throw stack after stack at you with no trouble. The only way I could see success is if you started where the shimazu or date are. Again, sorry for being negative but just wanted to express
alright ill stop asking for the poll haha keep doing your thing, large text mod is a good compromise imo!

This challenge should be like you can only recruit monks but be able to keep all the rebellion spawned units and those present from start
You can use both of your provinces to recruit naganati warrior monks until you have the resources to get archers.
He needs the monastery building which he needs the technology for in any case. So it wouldn't be any faster than waiting for bows
Maybe you can use the monk block the bridge reducing Takeda army movement?

Yari ashigaru no problem. Fots matchlock kachi is wayyy too much sadistic
yari ashigaru only is basically a standerd Oda campaign

My man you gotta drop these more often I’m constantly in anticipation for what happens next
There was supposed to be an episode a couple of hours ago, but I fell asleep :P
So the next episode will go up later today instead.
I was waiting for this video, thanks...
You really outperformed yourself in this episode, MrSmartDonkey

Leaving those Naginata Monks in loose formation was a bit painful to watch ahaha
Doesn't really matter, once they get engaged in melee they all clamor together again, it's only painful when being charged.

great series,
is this your biggest challenge yet?
Probably, although it's also been a while since I played Shogun 2, so that probably also plays a part.
I just sent a monk to sato asap with a monk to incite unrest and take it over for me.
I wonder how much easier this would be if it was ronin only?

That's fine, a couple of people have already commented how they did this on Legendary too though, so it's definitely possible.
