Rescuing an IMPERIAL KNIGHT

  • This week I finish off the Knight I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. I take the rest of the body to a good place and finish off the stencil work for the panels. Also, this model is going back up on eBay. I almost decided against it because I honestly am so stoked on how this one turned out. BUT, I would be doing a disservice to the model as it would be sitting on my shelf, and that's about it. Maybe 9th edition will get me to play some 40k, we'll see how it goes. For now, please enjoy Arabella's Last Stand!

    This is the first miniature painting video that I ever watched, mostly I am just into reading/listening to W40K lore and playing video games, so I am not a tabletop fan. So I am surprised how much I enjoyed watching it. You are great and skillful artist and your choice of background music is amazing. So you got another subscriber. Even if I am not into miniatures. It needs to see the table! Someday I may end up building a legit 40k army, I'd love to have a couple of knights and some armigers. Nothing crazy, but some fun larger models and a handful of smaller squads.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 роки тому +2

      I used to switch to a cheap airbrush for varnishing, but honestly, as long as you clean out your airbrush right after, like you would with any paint, then it’s fine. I’ve been shooting varnishes out of my patriot 105 for quite a while now. If you really want to save your airbrush, check out AK interactive or Testors spray can varnishes. • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks!
      Most inks are great right out of the pot, they are super thin and ready to shoot. Most brands put a little airbrush icon on the side of that is the case. If they are a little thicker, like some whites and lighter colors tend to be, just put in a little bit of flow improver and you should be good to go :)

      When I buy a model on eBay, more often than not, it’s in really bad shape, sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality of the build or paint job. In this case the paint wasn’t terrible, and nothing was super broken. That’s great and all, but what good is the model if I can’t try and do something to get it in a little bit better place? I put it back into eBay because I don’t play 40k right now, so someone else will put this right into their army, and have a good story to tell, otherwise it would have been on a shelf somewhere with an ok paint job, not making anyone happy.

It won't come out! The only thing I can do is to totally strip it.

      @eBayMiniatureRescues  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve seen plenty of good paint jobs with that idea in mind, the problem is, we are generally putting our models on a battlefield in the daylight, so a top down highlight makes the most sense. It also makes the most sense in our minds eye to see the models represented in this way, since everything is being artificially generated, our brains want to see highlights in the “proper” place, if you know what I mean.
      It would be super awesome to see an entire army painting like how you are saying, it would certainly stand out on the table as well. I’d recommend checking out some of Roman Lappat’s work on Instagram, he does some amazing stuff with non zenethil lighting :)

      Someday a slaanesh knight will be on the table, lots of fun colors and directions for sure, and I almost went with it too. In the end it’s because I didn’t have the stuff I would have wanted for some kind of chaos conversion. There are so many bits and armor parts out there for custom knights that I had to table the idea for later.

    Why are Knights so small but still so expensive

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  4 роки тому +6

      People have been asking GW that question for a while. Imperial guardsman used to be like $1 a model, not they are something like $5-8. Knights do have a lot of moving parts, and are bigger than pretty much anything else on the table. They are damn expensive though.

      Absolutely! I’d love to do projects on this scale every week, that’s the goal anyway. It’s all about time and money of course. There’s nothing wrong with that man. I try to come at this hobby from as many angles as I can, each week is something different, or as best I can at least. I know that not everything I paint on this channel will speak to everyone. What I am trying to accomplish, is to share the things I’ve learned in the hobby and try and make a video that, hopefully, gets that across. If this one didn’t do it for you, another one might :)

    The carapace and related parts are brilliant but the work on the skeleton or substructure touched on a pet peeve of mine. You painted the whole thing one colour and toned that colour for weathering or whatever. I may have it wrong for the future but, this is a machine of many parts all serving specific functions. Quite simply the cabling would not be metallic, it is meant to be flexible to stretch and contract. The protective sheath on the hip joints would function the same way. They would be made from different materials and would wear quicker resulting in replacement parts looking newer than the superstructure. They are points on the machine that would colour differently even if the same colour of gold was used simply because of the variation in material. Also they are parts that collect stains from lubrication and subsequent grime adhering to that. Painting it all one colour smacks of laziness. All the more disappointing when it is someone like yourself, who, and let's be clear on this, is a far superior artist to someone like me. I do have decades old models that show what I mean from times before I learned of washes and shading, but at least I looked to the detail.
