Really love how that turned out. As a boring old Imperial player, seeing orky shenanigans always entertains me, because it's a perpetual "what are they going to- *no way*!" Also quite like the colours - especially the way you did the metals. Somehow it feels very dynamic without being overstated.
He doesn't have to be "growing" out the lil' tank. Its perfectly normal for a Mek/Dog to "improve" a subject. I wouldn't be surprised if he went to the Dok and ended up getting his legs amputated and fitted to the machine. Then charged a fistful o' teef for the convenience, of course.
Yeah, U know. U play with your Squig, and get a minor wound. One hand, or leg. No worry, U go to the med AND YOU GET A NEW KLAW. AND WEELS. ALL RED. Neva' feel better.
Not only do I love the subject matter, your humble but fun approach to kitbashing and mini painting, but I also love that you stick with metal and rock music. Cheers, my friend! 🤘
We did a community project in his discord a couple years back. I just remember converting an awsome ork boss with a squig head on a rat ogre body. Had a klaw about as ridiculous as that warboss claw too! Fun times! Still love this channel and hope I can return to support on patreon soon.
This was a hell of a project to kick off the season with! You nailed the overall look of the original design, but the proportions are a lot more satisfying with the bigger tank chassis.
It's a little comforting to see someone else with a hobby space that is a cluttered pile of "I don't have time or energy to take care of this". Hobbies often take a back seat to life, and that's fine. But sometimes I look at my space and feel bad. I have to remind myself that there is a good reason it's the way it is, and that it's ok.
Oh, 100% THIS! I'm at the point where my brain opts to pretend it doesn't exist when I look at the room. Cleaning? Yup, dusted the table, vacuumed the floor, nothing else going o- what do you mean my painting pad is a chaotic jumble of mixed colours, half-finished models, and paints whose organization only I can ken? I have *no* idea what you're talking about! xD
It always amazes me how much work we can get done in like a 2X2 space. Everything else can be fully cluttered, but we only need the edge of the desk lol. Getting messy is just life, it will get cleaned up eventually, so nothing to worry about, and I think that's more people than you realize. Most hobbyists have a pretty messy space from what I've seen.
Just found your channel and really enjoying watching your work rescuing old models. I painted Warhammer models growing up in the 90s and have seen some of the minatures I painted during that time. Keep up the great content. Cheers
Thanks! I appreciate the sub :) I also started painting in the 90's, it was a great time, and there are still a ton of those minis that end up on this channel, so you might end up seeing some old favorites :)
@@eBayMiniatureRescues yeah i started back when the models were still lead, then moved through white metal and just saw the first models being done in plastic before I stopped. My brother still does painting and modelling and hes got pretty good. I look forward to seeing more of your vids and reliving the good old days :)
I like to think that the Ork just grew from the start in that machine. Like their spores ended up inside the tank, and they were just such a beast that they burst through the top and made it work.
Oh man hell yeah. Such a cool concept executed on beautifully. This is exactly the sort of project eBay Miniature Rescues is made for, and the type of content I only really see you do. The "ongoing community build" aspect is such a cool and unique part of your videos. Kickass.
ISTR that back in the Rogue Trader days, Meks could take Grot Oilers to clamber over and maintain their vehicles. Maybe the "Waaagh the Orkz" or "Freebooterz" books.
He was the runt of the ork warband, and was riding in his tractor just shooting a lasgun when he scored a lucky hit on a Titan and destroyed it, like the Death Star exhaust port. The sheer awesome of the kill he got caused him to spontaneously burst to war boss size, unfortunately the tractor didn’t grow commensurately. However, orks make do
You know what we miss now on a scale between Warboss in MA and Ghazkull Thraka? A Dreadboss - a mechanised boss size of deffdread - it would be very it.
I noticed that you made a little mistake, The wheels on the treads still have sprue bits on them. They wouldn't be able to turn if there connected together
For this orktober I would try to paint some pending Orks... but I only have 2 pending ones (Ghaz!) If my local store gets the new IJ mawgrunta it will my final orktober goal
It's called an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, and I use a concentrated cleaner inside to strip the paint. I do have an amazon link! I try and put as much of the stuff I use on an amazon affiliate list as I can, here is the link: amzn.to/3UNUrWx It's near the bottom, and the one shown is just a similar version to the one I have, they change all the time on Amazon, just a bunch of brands coming from China. I have a 2L model, and that works great for me with the sizes and amount of models I go through, but there are less expensive smaller ones available as well. Hope that helps!!
I actually thought about buying this guy to try and clean him up myself. I didn't end up doing it though because I thought "But if I buy it then I won't get to watch Miniature Rescues do it" and I just couldn't live with that possibility.
Hey, I've slowly been getting into mini painting recently and I've had an XV88 Battlesuit i got some time ago for a pretty good price, but I've been thinking about Orking it up after watching these Orktober videos. Any recommendations on kits/parts I should look at that would fit a kit of the XV88's size?
I'm new to Warhammer, ive just started a Necron and a Tau army. Think im going to need some Orks now hahaha addiction beginning. I'm wanting to try some kitbashing/customization after seeing these cool little guy's. I love your videos the premise of model resurrection is so awsome. Your tips and tricks really helped me to learn how to paint and assemble miniatures thanks heaps 🎉
If you want to collect multiple armies, ironically now is a good edition. You can try out different combat patrols or boarding patrols for the most part, and add more to the ones you really like! (Yes, I share your addiction. No, I haven't built all my boxes)
@soffren hahaha that is good news😋 I think GW needs to send more models to New Zealand our stores are selling out at the moment. I haven't yet got a pile of unfinished, I've been pretty good so far at only starting one at a time although its tempting 😅
That's awesome, welcome to the hobby! Orks are a good addition to every collection, if you're painting a bunch of Tau and Necron that can get a little samey same, orks are a good break to take and eventually, you'll have tons of them :) good luck with the armies and thanks for watching :)
Firstly, love the finished model! Secondly, do you use any particluar keywords for ebay searches? I usually use '40K Orks' and see what shows up but I've never found anything akin to the stuff you find.
Thanks! I use searches like 40k orks, or Warhammer Ork, pretty simple ones. It's the sorting at the end that gives you the better results. I usually sort by lowest price, buy it now, used, and then if I want to go even deeper I will use the side options to sort by painted/built, damaged/missing pieces, that sort of thing. You can get down to some pretty good stuff like that, and then set up saved searches so you don't have to put all of that stuff in every time, just click the "cheap ork" button and there ya go!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues I'd like to thank you for this suggestion. I did your price sort trick and immediately found a squad of burna boyz for £15. Normal price £24. Result!
Those are tough to replace on pretty much every 2 handed model, they are very specific. BUT, you could make a robot arm out of sprues and greenstuff, put a gear on the elbow and you've got a mek arm :)
Surely the story is a warboss gets cut in half but refuses to die. A big mek finds him and pieces him back together using whatever equipment is around. Putting dead heroes into machines works for 'ummies and their dreds so why not for the orcs
I grew up in the 80’s pretty poor. In the late 80s/ early 90s would use plastic army men and give them the stats from a few photocopied codexes. You could get a grip of army men, tanks and what not for dirt cheap. As long as you designate what is what before hand you are good to go. They never painted well though lol.
Thanks! In the almost 6 years I've been on youtube I've only ever had 1 person get back to me on a project, coincidentally last Orktober on the Stompa I did. We talked a bunch and I ended up doing a second video about it. I've reached out to eBay sellers a lot, but I've never gotten something that wasn't purchased previously from someone else, so none of them have seemed to care lol. I always hope for it, but it just doesn't happen, unfortunately.
Sort of, verisimilitude would imply I want literal realism out of the piece, or for the model to look more real in terms of the way you see in our reality, metals look like real metal, skin looks like real skin, etc... What I mean when I say believability is that this mini, with the conversions, size, and scale, looks more believable in the fantasy world of Warhammer 40k. It could be painted like a cartoon, but the model itself needs to be believable for the world it lives in.
Worthy of the WAAAAGGGHHHHH!!!!! If it weren't for the fact I'm fixing to move in the immediate future, I'd grab something outrageous off of eBay and join in on this.
The paint on the shoulder parts looks too clean and bright imo but other than that is looks perfect. I especially love your choice for the lower part of the body
Epic upgrade to an awesome kitbash model concept. One piece of friendly criticism: the treads aren't believable because of the way you painted them. And maybe you knew this but didn't want to spend the time. It might make sense for the edges of the treads to be rusty but since they are constantly moving, they would be constantly rubbing off any of the corrosion that tries to build up. The trad pads would absolutely be "clean" and would more than likely be a black rubber or worn, dark metal. The tread pads wouldn't have any dust buildup at all if they were in use. Again, I love the build and paint job and your videos always inspire me to take a second look at my old sprues and cast-aside WIPs!

Sometimes. He mentioned talking to the seller of the Commisar Yarrick and one of the other Orktober models.
