Gorillaz was created by 2 people: Damon Albarn (from the band Blur) & Jamie Hewlett (comic artist best known for Tank Girl). They call themselves a 'virtual band'. There's a base group of musicians who also contribute to vocals, but other well known artists (from a variety of genres) are rotated in & out--so all the songs sound a little different. The rap on this track was De La Soul. And there's actually a whole story line behind the characters & the songs tell the story (as illustrated by Hewlett).
"Early 2000s vibes." This song came out the year I graduated high school, 2005. It's the AMV vibe that likely caught your eye since a lot of people mashed up music with anime scenes to make AMVs.
This is true art. It's not just copying a style and repeating it to death. Listen to the production, the stops and starts, the layers, the atrention to detail, the variety. It's like a painting with many colors and textures. True art.
De La Soul doing the rap. Kind of about how the world of entertainment/music isn't such a feel good place for those in it, except maybe the corrupt types ( like Murdoch on the guitar). Good band, so glad you enjoyed them.
These are truly great artists. Damon Albarn.....singing.....was vocalist in a band called Blur. Check them out too. Next Gorrilaz song should be Clint Eastwood
Gorillaz are definitely great! Animation is by the guy who did the animation for Tank Girl I beleve. Other great songs are Clint Eastwood, Dirty Harry, and Dare.
This was on the album Demon Days which came out in 2005. The whole album slaps, but the most notable off of it (which also have videos) are DARE, Dirty Hary and the one you've listened to Feel Good Inc. But I recommend their other stuff, like On Melancholy Hill, Stylo from their Plastic Beach album.
Yo my g. I grew up listening to all the best tracks. Best somgs. All of that in hip hop. But the first time i heard gorillaz was in my buddy car, he was a mexican dude but he had some fire rock music ive been listening ever since honestly
They are a band that don’t show their faces and bodies they’re blackened and cartoon versions of the members of the band appear on top of the blackened band
Mane I feel like the Group GORRILAZ have dark music that Slaps AND contains hope I'm their Bars bran. Now,Gorillaz tattoos still sell, huge fan base. Sadlynot THAT MANY Hits. like Dam GorrilaZ DROP SOME NOT FIIIIRRRE💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥i digress
You've almost definitely heard "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz, even if you don't know it by that name. You'll probably know it when you hear it. That song was EVERYWHERE.
I remember buying the CD and figuring out the lyrics to all the songs on the album and singing this song in a van during a field trip. And people thought i was guessing the lyrics. Damn gorillaz where amazing in the day
Gorillaz is a virtual band and there's an order to watch the videos(look them up) as they tell the story of the group. The animation ages the members with each video that comes out, it's really cool. Every song is different and is also intended to have numerous collaborations(mostly rappers), they cannot be confined to any specific genre and that's what still keeps them as fresh as when they started 20 years ago. So many great songs and collabs but I highly suggest that you look up their video timeline and backstory if you have time. Enjoy this wonderful rabbit hole of music and storytelling
Gorillaz is one of the most unique "groups" of all time. It's actually one main guy, Damon Albarn, who works with a bunch of other artists. As a result, the music can't really be classified into one genre as it tends to completely change from song to song. The whole Demon Days album is a masterpiece but I'd say Dirty Harry, November Has Come, and El Manana are a few highlights off the album. Besides that album, the songs Clint Eastwood and Stylo are really good but my favorite of theirs would probably have to be Empire Ants. Keep it up with these videos man, you're killing it.
Now you have to react to Leo Moracchioli and his Feel Good cover. So different and so good. He does a new one every Friday. If you fall down the rabbit hole start from the beginning...or his Adele hello cover.
Another good track by the Gorillaz to check out is DARE...by the way, loved your reaction to the Arctic monkeys, I knew you was going to love that song!
I know this an older reaction vid, but just saw the Gorillaz reaction you did a few days ago and will go to a first reaction to a band like this before I watch the recent video. At about 1:51 you say something like 'trying to still get into this but kind of like it and you weren't expecting this.' Sounds about right for first time hearing them. They are so unique it would be impossible to expect this music from anything. So smooth and so well constructed that it is impossible to not really love this band and not even know it. One of the best bands of the early-mid 2000s (had to correct the date, I'm old, time gets blurred) and still doing it now. They are just too good not to be great. One of a kind.
Can you react to FALLING IN REVERSE - ZOMBIEFIED and/or I'M NOT A VAMPIRE REVAMPED. Lead singer is crazy talented and their music videos are like watching movies.
As others have said, the songs follow a story for the characters. El Mañana is next (link below). The helicopters in the Feel Good Inc video feature a bit more prominantly. ua-cam.com/video/hji4gBuOvIQ/v-deo.html
This track specifically is like 2003? Probably album released on 2004. I graduated highschool in 2005 and I know this track was being played in my art class for at least a year before that
Damon Albarn Blur frontman. Huge band. Band folds, forms gorillaz with Jamie Hewitt. Becomes bigger than blur were. Driving force off the bands music, while Hewitt stamps his iconic look. No other band like them. Nothing sounds like them either .
Being young really doesn't have much to do with not knowing this stuff, it's how you come up. I got 2 homeboys both younger than you that know just as much as the oldheads about all genres of music bro. I mean from Grandmaster Flash to Slipknot to NLE Choppa bro fr. UA-cam been around since 05 so it just depends on when you ready to dig into it if you didn't come up around it, like you are now. Me personally I came up around it all even though I'm young so I always been open to it. But keep the journey going fr
imo their songs can't be classified as mumble rap. Their lyrics are still heard clearly, the songs means something and is telling a story. The lyrics in most songs especially El Manana are just painted in an abstract way.
You guys are my new fav reaction channel . Would love to see you react to some classical music . Beethoven’s 5th symphony . I promise you it will blow your mind. Much love from London 🥰

The immature 90s manc in me wants to hate Damon but I can't.. gorillaz are genius
Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood" with Del the Funky Homosapien is fantastic too

"Early 2000s vibes."

I thought the song came out 20 yrs ago
@Magic Man ✔︎ In 2 years time, it will have! Which is honestly crazy to me. 25 years since such a fucking fire song dropped.
This is true art. It's not just copying a style and repeating it to death. Listen to the production, the stops and starts, the layers, the atrention to detail, the variety. It's like a painting with many colors and textures. True art.

As an 80s kid, I'm mad about th vinyls hanging on the wall without their sleeve.
But, yeah. Solid jam.
Clint Eastwood, Stylo
I turned my kid on to 60s 70s 80s music and my kid turned me on to 90s 2000s music

Gorillaz has a good background story for each member of the band it's pretty cool tbh. You should definitely check out their song/video DARE
if you like this check out Pacman with Schoolboy Q or Saturn Barz with Popcaan. But tbh all Gorillaz songs are bangers.

The only mumble “rap” that’s kinda worth it. Nobody has any idea what they’re saying unless they’ve looked it up but it still sounds
Good
imo their songs can't be classified as mumble rap. Their lyrics are still heard clearly, the songs means something and is telling a story. The lyrics in most songs especially El Manana are just painted in an abstract way.
cool beans , good tune.
Please react to the metal cover of this song made by Frog Leap Studios. I would love to hear your thoughts on the cover.
