Yesssss. It’s so good, well the whole album slaps. El Manaña also gives me similar vibes to “Sing” off of Damon Albarn’s first album with Blur. It gained popularity when it was on the Trainspotting soundtrack. It’s one of my fave Blur songs.
Demon Days is just legitimately one of the best albums ever made. It's a cohesive whole. Front to back; beginning to end - it's just a masterpiece. It doesn't matter what genre of music you prefer, you should listen to that fucking album.
Everyone talks about how sad of a character 2D is but honestly Noodle's story is also very sad especially in Demon Days and Plastic Beach. Also it is kinda show in the comintary video that was made with all ths members that despite noodle being the youngest she is the most mature out of all of them despite being like 13 wich is just kinda sad when looking at El Mañana's message.
The video yes, but the song itself is about being broken-up with. When Damon writes the songs, he doesn't have any music videos or the cartoon band's lore in mind, just writes songs the same way he would for Blur or his own solo albums (in fact _Possession Island,_ the final track of the most recent Gorillaz album "Cracker Island," was originally a cut song from Damon's latest solo album "The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows"). In fact, Damon makes the music before Jamie even gets started on any music videos. After the music has been recorded, or at least after the demos have been recorded or he's heard Damon & Co. play the music, _then_ he picks out songs that he thinks he can make a video for and/or whose lyrics he thinks he can put into an alternative context that suits the cartoon band & their universe. Like _Souk Eye._ That's a deeply personal song that Damon wrote about heartbreak and a romance that didn't work out. And then the visualizer that Jamie made for it (which plays on the screens behind the band when they perform the song live) recontextualizes it into a song that 2-D wrote about Murdoc while Murdoc was in jail and the band hired Ace from The Powerpuff Girls to fill-in for him until he got out. Even though Damon wasn't thinking about *_ANY_* of that jizz-jazzy-jazz when he was actually writing the song and when he was recording it at Studio 13.
I just found your channel because of this video and I am begging you to do more Gorillaz. Everything they stand for and make music about is progressive and inspirational. Although it might seem hard to follow, the music videos do tell a big over-arching story for the cartoon band, they do play live and they're incredible
I second this with all my heart. Do a deep dive into Gorillaz - the collaborations and how the art and music are created together are so inspiring and uplifting. And YES, they are amazing live
Well just so you know, the girl survives the El Manana video. The helicopters shooting at her were trying to kill her because they're part of the Black Cloud Pirates which become the main antagonists in Plastic Beach, the Album after the one that these videos are from with that part of the storyline coming to a climax in the Rhinestone Eyes storyboard music video where the Gorillaz finally reunite years after the El Manana incident as the leader of the Black Cloud Pirates, the Boogieman (one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse (who Murdoc (the bassist of the Gorillaz) made a deal with when he formed the band so that the Gorillaz would be popular)) attacks Plastic Beach to try and kill Murdoc and the artists helping him on the album. The girl in the video is Noodle and is the guitarist of the group as well as a leftover from a secret Japanese super soldier program. Her story picks up again after this in the Melancholy Hill video while Murdoc is traveling to Plastic Beach with a cyborg version of Noodle that he built after El Manana and 2D (the singer of the Gorillaz) who Murdoc has kidnapped to make a new album.
[Lore] Feel Good was the band's way of trying to tell Noodle "We'll try to have good thoughts and feelings for you as you journey on your path of discovery" when she left for Japan to find out about her past, but there was always an underlying melancholy, especially with 2-D, who felt like he might not see his "little sister" again. El Mañana was literally about Noodle discovering the truth of her past, and the loss of her innocence at thinking she was just some child prodigy with a guitar. [Lore] Noodle would never be the same again, and it is because of that El Mañana always makes me cry. Always. In a later music video, when 2-D is going about his morning routine, he starts past Noodle's room, and opens her door to look in on her, showing just how much her leaving really did affect him, because he doesn't want her to disappear on the group again.
beware long text basically in el manaña some guy named jimmy wanted to be the guitarist in the band so bad that he’d kill noodle. so Murdoc (the green one) set up a plan to get rid of him, jimmy was hiding in the windmill and the helicopters were meant to get him. Even tho noodle (purple hair) was in there, Murdocs crazy self was ready to kill noodle to get rid of jimmy 😧. Noodle survived luckily though
If you read the book Rise of the Ogre it goes on to say jimmy was waiting in like a closet. When he couldnt get out he gets in touch with Murdoc saying he couldnt get out. Which Murdoc already knew, saying that Jimmy was crazy if Murdoc would allow Noodle to die. Noodle gets off safely while the only one to die in the collapse of the windmill island is Jimmy himself.
Loved your reaction. I think that "Feel Good Inc" is about controlling the masses ( of people) with what they think they want ( sex, drugs, music, .. etc) and the ones who can't be controlled that way, as in "El Manana" are gotten rid of or destroyed. This was very different. Keep up the NICE work. ;D
The animated characters were created by Jamie Hewitt, who created the character Tank Girl. The band is actually Blur, minus one guitar player on the first album, but I’m not sure on the later albums. The characters are 2-D singing, Murdoc on Bass, Russel on the drums and Noodle is the girl, who plays guitar and sometimes keyboards. 2-D also plays keyboards in some of their other videos. Noodle is the genuine badass of the bunch. They have done live shows, utilizing holograms of the characters.
Explanation: Murdoc the bass guitarist who formed the band, hired a guy to trick him into thinking he was gonna kill noodle (the girl) because he did not get accepted as the band guitarist. Murdoc said he would give him a parachute for if something went wrong with the helicopter, but noodle got the parachute instead. Luckily, Noodz survived and made her way for her next journey for plastic beach! ( and the guy who was shooting the floating windmill island died :) )
if you're wondering Noodle survives but faked her death to take a hiatus, her burnt parachute was found at the wreckage, basically Murdoc double crossed the guy locked in the windmill HAD Feel Good Inc. helicopters but they were completely different in El Mañana as the bomb was NOT part of the plan
If you like the way of continuing storys throughout the musicvideos like it was here for Feel good inc and El Manana I highly recommend you to watch Stylo, On Melancholy hill and Rhinstone eye (only storyboardversion exists for this one during cut budget for the film however a fan animated it working 6 years to finish it so you should check this one out) in this order. Also you should check out a story summary about the bands story which is told in phases giving you insight about the band story and what the musicvideos are about as songs, musicvideos and the bands story are part of the full understanding of it. Other than that of course the songs themself are also telling a story often related to the theme behind the albums.
The Gorillaz, in universe, have videos that are the bamd filming music videos and music videos that are "real things that happened to the band." Feel Good Inc is a music video. El Manana was meant to be a music video, but there was sabotage and the video shoot was used as an actual attempt to kill Noodle.
It was an assassination attempt on noodle (the girl) orchestrated by a disgruntled exect under a murdoc (bass player) who was double crossing the exec for money.
Slight context: Feel Good Inc. is basically the girl, Noodle, just kinda existing, 2D, the singer, feeling oppressed by Murdoc, the shirtless bassist. Russel, the drummer is just kinda there. Then, there's this guy named Johnny who's a threat to the band because Murdoc made fun of him. Murdoc then befriended Johnny, saying that the both of them could make music together and he'd let Johnny destroy the rest of the band. Murdoc told Johnny to go to a secret compartment under the windmill island so that during the filming of El Mañana, he could come and get rid of Noodle, but Murdoc actually double crossed him and Johnny died when the island fell while Noodle was able to escape (btw, Noodle wasn't supposed to get caught up in the whole helicopter attack thing, it just kinda happened and got out of control). Anyways, brief summary of literally the most interesting lore ever. Ye.
Seeing how you have a taste for this unique style of music...my favorite album is one most have never heard of...came out about the same time as these did...it even came with an illustrated book with the words to the songs to have visuals to the songs...it's a group called Mae...it's their "Everglow" album...no rap...but the other elements are there...hope it lifts you up the way it has me. New sub!
No Murdoc(bassist and creator of the band) wanted trick an old friend that wanted to join the band because he wanted that old friend dead right and tried tricking him into believing that they killed Noodle(the guitar player/ the girl) but it didn't go as planned and almost killed her
You need to check out their video for DARE. I would love to see you react to that head trip (Hehe, you'll get that pun once you've watched the video). Great reaction as always. Do more Gorillaz. You won't regret it.

This is why in the other videos the gorillaz band together and prepare for war. To fight the corruption. Kids with guns is a really good one, so is melancholy hill. You should do a reaction to those, they’re great.
I am the new person you were speaking to in the begging of the video. I’m sorry I’m late, but I brought an apple for the teacher and I promise never to be late again! Lol! Seriously, I just found you this morning and you’ve started my day off with a smile, so I’m going to make you part of my morning routine from now on!

You know the rappers on Feel Good Inc is De La Soul right? Shit is dope as fuck! On their song Clint Eastwood, Del Tha Funky Homosapien is the rapper. That's Ice Cube's cousin by the way.
My 3 year old sister called murdoc a zombie my sister was wearing a black and white shirt and saw that doodle was wearing a black and white shirt and my 3-year-old sister said that's me when noodle was being attacked by the helicopters my sister said Bye bye so sad
I know im beyond late but you should definitely check out lore videos on gorillaz each of their albums has its own underlying story they are more than a band... They're a bloody franchise.
History lesson tl;dr : the guitarist (her name is noodle) is not dead, she took a parachute. It was the band leader and bass guitarists plan to murder someone who he tricked into locking themselve in the attic of the windmill because that person wanted to kill noodle

I don’t think your brain can handle the whole story…like seriously. No shade…it’s that nutts. But it’s sooooo intriguing. Several videos tell their story and it is so addicting.
Hope to see you do Gorillaz Live 'Lost in Heaven /Demon Days'! 😁 I paid 1 months rent for an MSG ticket to see what they really looked like. 😒 Realized I knew most of them & seen 3 of them in their own band at Roseland 2 nights previously. 🤗 Even Snoop Dogg & Q-Tip down with Gorillaz! 🤩 It was an awesome night and worth the late fee for paying Rent late! 😂🐰 #ENRGYZRBunny
I want you to see On Melancholy Hill. It's not the next story in the Gorillaz timeline but it's the next time we see what happened to that girl (her name noodle btw I don't know if I ever heard you say it lol
Nice reaction but you may want to blur the El Manana vid a bit just in case. The original video kept getting taken down because UA-cam deemed the music as child endangerment. Ya know, because it shows Noodle apparently getting attacked and killed off.
I like how America ks cool with Peter from family guy slowly killing a whale for an unfunny joke. But an amazing well animated music video from Gorillaz? Gotta ban that
I know this is a year later but I just gotta say it was kinda fucked up to put those two songs together as a part one and part two without including Noodle's revenge in "On Melancholy Hill".
Gorillaz is purposely a made up band to tell a virtual story. It’s almost like you have to know as much of the back story of Gorillaz as the MCU. In the beginning, Murdock, the bass player, needed a guitarist so he had Noodle, the girl, mailed to him from Japan. And she grown up over the years. No spoilers. Watch Do Ya Thing from them. Andre 3000 is in it.
I get.. the explanation that you read after the song. But these days I can't not draw a comparison to what's going on in Ukraine. Now you can pretty much take everything you said from 9:55 onward, replace "the girl" with "Ukraine" and "helicopters" with "Russia". They came to her world to burn everything down for.. what. Yeah.. sorry, just had to rant about it. It's becoming harder to deal with this. I did enjoy the video.
Glad to see El Manana getting love. Such an underrated song

El Manana
The second song, El manana hit me hard listening to it again. The whole message of the song and video is the death of childhood innocence 💔

they dont all reunite during rhinestone eyes.... 2-D gets swallowed by the whale that Russel throws and ends up stranded for a while

El Manana is one of the most devastatingly beautiful pieces of music ever written. When the strings come in, it’s so heavy to bare. Stunning.

I know this is a year later but I just gotta say it was kinda fucked up to put those two songs together as a part one and part two without including Noodle's revenge in "On Melancholy Hill".
There's actually a story behind this
Try ..gorillaz "On Melancholy Hill". There's something magical about it X 😊.....and that is de la soul featured in the 1st video :)
i feel sod bad for noodle (my twin)
The album was based on context of the Iraq War
LUGIAZUL
I speak Spanish, that subtitles are just... Horrible
I understand that pronouncing the ñ is a bit complicated.little by little you will be able to pronounce fluently.
Saludos desde Argentina.
I did enjoy the video.
uhh
what
I can’t stand this song😢😢
no noodle
