I still remember the first time I ever heard this song, I was at a party as a teen and it was mixed in with a bunch of grunge and alternative that I always listened to. It really opened me up to experimenting with new artists (well... after listening to this album on repeat for a month first) because I realized how much I could be missing out on.
The IRL people in this song is De La Soul (I believe). They are just featuring in this. Also, most of their videos actually tell a continuing story. The one after this one is El Mañana.
Its about the character trying to pull himself out of the numbness of Feel Good Inc, walking to the window and wanting to be outside with his friend. The spirits of the Inc taunt him and push him back down until he resumes his place back in the middle of the numbed crowd.
Okay the bullet pointed version is: * Gorillaz is a 'virtual band' created by Damon Albarn (musician from the band Blur) and Jamie Hewlett (comic animator best known for Tank Girl). They are the only 'permanent' members. * All the videos are animated with the same 4 characters which others in the comments have named (the blue haired character is Damon Albarn) * There is an entire saga of a backstory that goes along with each of the characters & kind of plays out through the music videos * Different guest artists contribute on different tracks. This particular song features rappers from De La Soul. * It's not always rap, it just depends which artists are contributing to that song
Gorillas are a virtual band (always animated, even their live shows have a huge screen the animations show on) that only has 2 permanent members, formed in 1998 by Damon Albarn (lead singer, piano, keyboard, guitar and melodica) and Jamie Hewlett (animator). The rest of the band is for tours and varies from tour to tour. Almost every Gorillaz song has a featured artist on it. Gorillaz don't really have a genre as they do a bit of a lot of different things but can probably be boiled down mostly to alternative rock/pop/hip hop/trip hop. Damon Albarn was the font man for the band Blur (a Brit-pop band with a lot more success in the UK but had lots of radio time in the US with their song 'Song 2'). Gorillaz are amazing and I hope you check out more of them! Some songs I would recommend: Dare, Clint Eastwood, On Melancholy Hill, Saturnz Barz, and Cracker Island.
Brit. You have now entered the cool space of music. Gorillaz is, as far as as I’m concerned, a genre of its own. Read up a bit on the artists who are partially from a former British band called Blur and a HipHop group called De la Soul. But there are also others featured. I love the Gorillaz sound and animation. Fun fact: Netflix is doing a Gorillaz Animated series at the moment.
Gorrilaz are Amazing. Its just one Musician and one artist doing all the Artwork and animations, Damon Albarn is quite the genius Songwriter always wanting to try different Styles, all while keeping the energy of gorrilaz. Melancholy Hill my personal favorite. I can also recommend Humility, clint eastwood or Saturnz barz
The vibe of Gorillaz has always been a really cool experimental mix of rock and hip-hop sounds. They’ve collabed with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Elton John, plus a lot of more underground artists at times. The “band”, actually just Damon Albarn, was originally conceived as a commentary on how many popular musical acts were manufactured images, people going up on stage and being fake. Gorillaz is the logical end point of that idea, a totally fake band that doesn’t even exist. Later on storylines were developed for the band, the latest album covered them moving to LA so the leader could start a cult.
They’re not a real group. It’s a bunch of musicians and artists collaborating to make a virtual group. It was created by Damon Albarn from Blur (he sings on most tracks) and cartoonist Jamie Hewlett. They work with hip-hop producer (one of my favs) Dan the Automator as well as Danger Mouse. They have features such as Del the Funkee Homosapian (Hieroglyphics, Deltron 3030), De La Soul (who were featured in this song), Shaun Ryder, Bobby Womack, Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads), Mos Def, Vince Staples, Roots Manuva, MF DOOM, Miho Hatori (Cibbo Matto), Lou Reed (Velvet Underground) and a ton of other musicians.
Gorillaz were famously a British cartoon 'virtua"l band - the creation of musician, Damon Albarn, and artist, Jamie Hewlett. Check out "Clint Eastwood' and "Dare'. Super catchy and huge hits in the UK.
Gorillaz is a digital band I guess you can say, the main voice is Damon Albran. They like to feature others on their music like this group called De La Soul. The animation band has its own lore, where the singer is 2D, the Drummer Russell, Murdoc on the bass and Noodles on guitar. Each music video has a story and its tied to each album they release. Like in on of their videos they depict Noodles getting shipped to them in a box.
Britt Gorllaz is a virtual fictional band created by Damon Albarn and artist, Jaime Hewlett. Damon does the singing as Blue Haired singer. Damon has guest musicians and singers when Gorillaz live in concert such as this Rap Trio, De La Soul.

These guys are so cool!! My son loved this band in high school. I loved it!! The animation is so cool and it conceals the identity of the people in the band. When they won an award, they accepted the award with full face helmets on. You still didn't see their faces. Cool and mysterious, lol

Gorillaz is a virtual band. Voiced by different people. 2-d, the lead singer, has his singing voice provided by the frontman of blur, while his speaking voice is from a voice actor.
I'm sure many people will answer you questions. The only member of this "group" is Damon Albarn & uses other artists to assist in each collaboration. There are no other regular band members. This is why every song sounds different in a unique way. He was the singer from Blur.
Feel Good Inc was my phone ring tone a long time ago, Clint Eastwood was my intro to them when the video dropped, and Humility may be my favorite they’ve released. The Gorillaz groove is beyond the pale.
Gorillaz are TripHop, so you're right it's a hip hop and electro mix. BTW the rappers are De La Soul, Gorillaz use loads of MCs and rappers for different songs and live gigs.
It basically works like this. The lead singer of a band called Blur, Damon Albarn created a "virtual band" concept. He is basically the whole band, though they might feature guest or session musicians - I don't know. The drummer character functions as a narrative device to introduce featured rappers to different tracks.
What genre is this? All new, a concept piece between a singer & a cartoonist and the music landscape was changed forever. Nothing like before or since. Damon Albarn (blur) & Jamie Hewlett ( tank girl)
Your best bet to understand the group, is to just google and read wiki etc, as it would take quite a bit to really describe it and do it justice, as it is such a unique concept. Good catch on the lyrics and video, they paint the picture of how the successful musicians playing a club/concert aren't happy, at least in any meaningful way, while the girl just playing the guitar for herself is free and happy.
Fun fact, the guy who does the actual rapping in the group is Deltron 3030 who is Ice Cube's cousin Actually correction: Delton 3030 is featured on their hit "Clint Eastwood" Definitely should be the next track you should check out by them.
A lot of groups out of the late 90s kind of did their own thing creating some unique music, I recommend checking out some "Rehab". . . also "Sublime" , . they were more mid 90's but an amazing, unique band all the same.
My youngest turns 15 in a month and this is currently (and has been for some time) one of his favorite bands. Not sure how well I do as a parent, but both my kids have great taste in music at least.
The dude singing is Damon or "Gorillaz" (Along with Jamie - the illustrator.) The dudes rapping is "De La Soul" Hip Hop group that are a feature in this song. As far as genre, Gorillaz fuse pretty much everything into their music, it's incredible.
I only discovered them a few months ago. But apparently there are a completely animation band. The one singing is called. 2Dthey have their own personalities and stuff like that it has a lot of lore.
Damon Albarn is the creative and vocal lead of Gorillaz. He found his first fame as the lead singer of the punk band Blur who had a major hit with Song #2 which I promise if you have ever been to a sporting event you have heard.
Melancholy Hill is my favorite. Went to the Concert in Dallas tx back in the fall. Fyi the animation is the group. Every vid is animated. Hell the Concert was Animated. You must do more. Stylo has Bruce Willis in the video.
Gorillaz are whatever genre bands like Beastie Boys and Faith No More and artists like Beck and Björk are. It's hard to say because the answer is "yes"
To me, this song has always felt like one of those weird nights where you can't quite fall completely asleep, but you're not completely awake either. And you just sort of drift in-and-out without ever actually falling asleep. And then you have the occasional nightmarish bad dream when you're drifting towards sleep.
Gorrilaz are a virtual band created by vocalist Damon Albarn and cartoonist Jamie Hewlitt and featured many guest musicians. De La Soul were the rappers in this one.
As a 50 year old guy, I remember records stores before genre's, everything was assorted alphabetically. First you saw country which was a gospel bluegrass country hodge podge. Then Rock, Motown, Rap, hard Rock, Heavy Metal Industrial, Gangster Rap, Reggae and so on.
Gorillaz started as an outlet for Damon Albarn to produce music that didn't fit the sound of his regular band, Blur. Blur eventually broke up, but he's still putting out Gorillaz albums. Damon is the only permanent fixture in Gorillaz, but he often has various celebrities, singers and hip-hop artists contribute as guest stars. In the case of Feel Good, Inc the guests are a group called De La Soul. In another song, he had actor Dennis Hopper read a story along with the music, and Damon punctuated it by singing short verses.
Every time you heard the "hurrhirr" he was saying Feel Good. You were right, he wasn't feeling good, just trying to force a projection that he was well. Do more, your uncle loved these
Such a great REACTION!!! 😂

Gorillaz is their own genre tbh. Each track is its own thing for sure :). Great reaction, Ty!
You are correct in that the genre can't be pinpointed. There is a little bit of 70's funk also a little of the GAP Band and most everything else.
love it!
I love how pretty much every reaction by anyone to Gorillaz is "I don't know what genre this is but I love it". There's really something for everyone.
He’s saying “feel good” in the high pitched singing parts
Fun fact, the guy who does the actual rapping in the group is Deltron 3030 who is Ice Cube's cousin
Actually correction: Delton 3030 is featured on their hit "Clint Eastwood"
Definitely should be the next track you should check out by them.
Gorillaz is a unique sound for sure.
yes!
They're purely a digital band. It's 4 digital characters who are voiced by different people.
Absolutely love this iconic song & sound !!!
Gorillaz is collaboration of different artists, genre switches, they collab with unknown artists and very well known artists
A lot of groups out of the late 90s kind of did their own thing creating some unique music, I recommend checking out some "Rehab". . . also "Sublime" , . they were more mid 90's but an amazing, unique band all the same.
The gorillas don’t really have a set genre they kinda do a lot but it comes back to a hip hop/rock the entire band is animated
This is actually from a series of videos that connect together.
Nice! A lot of people don’t catch on to the “feel good” in the title being deceptive. You got it.
Me, myself and I just subbed in the hope to see more reactions to Gorillaz and especially De La Soul! 🕺🎶
I would classify this wonderful song as eclectic! 🥰
The feature rappers on this track is De La Soul, whose founding member Trugoy the Dove (Dave) died this year.
You have a wonderful character
Good reaction lady
I only discovered them a few months ago. But apparently there are a completely animation band. The one singing is called. 2Dthey have their own personalities and stuff like that it has a lot of lore.
Welcome back to the party this is The Princess And The Frog lmao great reaction video!
Damon Albarn is the creative and vocal lead of Gorillaz. He found his first fame as the lead singer of the punk band Blur who had a major hit with Song #2 which I promise if you have ever been to a sporting event you have heard.
Blur - Punk Band???
@@fordcorsair what would you categorize them as? I only know a few of their songs but id put them in the same as Blink 182.
Vocal is Damon Albarn from 90s-2000s famous brit band Blur.
Rap part was the famous hip hop group De La Soul.
I’m always genuinely shocked when people haven’t heard this song or band.
"so many questions" is exactly the question that Damon and Jamie wanted people to ask :)
The brilliance of The Gorillaz is that it is an answer to a digital stage, where you can be anything.
Thank you so much for sharing your video with us your so awesome on your youtube channel.👍
Another 🔥reaction. Gorillaz. Yeah, I’m here for it
Definitely dig deeper into Gorillaz catalog, it's well worth it
Every time you heard the "hurrhirr" he was saying Feel Good.
You were right, he wasn't feeling good, just trying to force a projection that he was well. Do more, your uncle loved these
