MSI's hardware always looks amazing, but their software and driver support on my two laptops from them was abominable. I don't plan to give them a third chance, definitely not on a work machine.
Got a old ish msi laptop for personal stuff and I totally agree but at work we use Alienware and my god.. we make it work but so many annoying little things
This needs more thumbs up because their software is so 2015 and made by a high schooler while other laptop startups like xmg already have much better software experience.
@@hubertnnn have to add that my experience with MSI outside of warranty was very good. I was able to buy a new battery get it shipped with install instructions and a confirmation email asking how it went. And this was 3 years ago on a now 6 year old laptop.

Thing is you can generally make the other ones quieter just by setting the GPU limit to what the GS uses. My laptop goes to 130W on the 3060 but I can also just set it to 105W which is what most laptops the same size use and it's much quieter. So can look at the full power as more of a turbo mode then
The thicker does not need a better: keyboard - regular mechanic wireless keyboard with big WSAD and arrows, display - because 4K 32" monitor, stiffness - sits on the "Outer Rim" of your desk, speakers - you have connected headphones or speakers by BOSE, Harman Kardon, or other JBL, trackpad - you just use a gaming mouse, gaming laptops if don't travel don't need trackpads at all battery - it pulls the power from the wall, slim and thin and whatnot because most of its mobile character is in ranges of "will be carried to your friend or your girlfriend". In terms of playing games when traveling, the owner of GP66 will use 399$ Steam Deck with a changed SSD.

@@gamerdweebentertainment1616 GPU max TGP is listed by MSI. You should never buy a gaming laptop without knowing the gpu wattage as that will affect the performance dramatically in some cases. There are ultra thin laptops with 3080s and 80 watt tgps that will perform much worse than 3070s with better wattage
Jarrod's Tech already has a full list of every laptop he has tested just go there. Or hardware unboxed generally has more detail that LTT too. As for how they know GPU power generally listed and also as the tester with the device can just run software to see GPU power. Higher GPU power almost always means faster in gaming laptops so fairly easy to judge. Except for weird cases of CPU throttles
IMO i love the design of MSI laptops, but they are so flimsy you have to treat them like glass. I realize he says that's been improved, but improved doesn't mean fixed IMO. I think for it to be this thin with these components they need to give a metal chassis a shot
MSI postions themselves as a value brand, or at least used to when I bought a gaming laptop from them back in 2017. I remember choosing between an MSI and an HP laptop with the same CPU and GPU, and the MSI was a couple hundred dollars cheaper.
I bought a MSI GL75 laptop, because it was a bit cheaper than the ASUS alternative, and I 1000% regret it. Just keeping it in a soft laptop bag, the chassis and screen is so flexible it squished the screen in so there is a huge scuff from the stupid ridge thing at the bottom of the keyboard, all the way across the screen. And whoever laid out the keyboard needs to be fired with prejudice, it is, without a doubt, the worst layout I have ever seen. Its also quite loud, and comes with tons of bloatware. My first and last MSI laptop.
MSI's high-end workstation laptops with durable build are "Creator" series - M16, Z16, and Z17. This "GS" is a mid-range gaming lineup for budget conscious consumers. So of course build quality is not the highest priority.

The last time I bought an MSi laptop that you recommended, I needed to get an RMA, and MSi left me out to dry. They wouldn’t respond to e-mails, they blocked me on social media, ended phone calls while I was on hold… I didn’t even express anger to them. Disappointment, yes. But I wasn’t offensive, I was just in a predicament because they sent me a defective product and wouldn’t ship it to Japan when I’d be living there by the time they’d receive the GS70 Stealth Pro 2QE. To the other viewers, I strongly recommend against buying MSi’s laptops. I hope they’ve changed as a company, but if they haven’t, they don’t support their most premium products.

I had two months before I left the country, and I spent them trying to get an RMA while I was still here. They still led me to dead-ends by hanging up when I was on hold. I’d get close to support, be put on hold, then the call would drop.
But not every boss is like Linus & is cool with stuff like this. The company my dad works for is very specific on what he’s allowed to purchase through the company. Also, 240W is still within the USB4 spec for maximum power delivery over Type-C.
Thats good thing since there is lower chance he will be persuaded by sponsored videos like this one. If in sponsored video they need to say that keyboard is "acceptable" you can be sure it isnt. There is also a reason why it isnt compared to any competition at that price point.

The really did pull back on the gamer aesthetics, I feel like the old Lambo badge might stop it being taken seriously in the workplace though, I'd swap it for "MSI" logo that's at the bottom of the screen but then I've never liked the badge.
The MSI Modern series is a great example of a more serious looking MSI machine. Then again, it is aimed at business customers so that makes sense. Oddly enough it doesn't feature a numpad though.....
I love the collective "woah" when the bare copper heatpipes are revealed. I agree that they really are pretty and have the extra benefit of (likely) not costing the manufacturer any more since there's no need to paint them.
I love the comparison between the two laptops in the Forza benchmark, it's probably one of the best examples that I've seen lately of two laptops that have different specs, different CPU, different RAM, different Motherboard, same GPU with different wattage, and they ended up pretty similar in performance. Obviously each one is going to have it's advantage at something though.

I use a GP66 Leopard for work. It is pretty good. The fan sound can be fun in the office when I use GPU heavy stuff and everyone starts prepping their passports before the boarding the plane, but it is plenty powerful. Though in real world use, it sorely needs a cooling stand. The fans are not powerful enough to actually cool the system properly despite the earshattering sounds. The keys are comfortable, although in my hungarian layout the ' í ' is placed in a rather unusual place and a ' 1 ' keycap fell off early on (I was able to push it back finally). The CPU is enough for what I use it for, the GPU (3070) is good enough for most stuff and is a huge step up from my old 980, so no complaints there, the 16GB ram is a bit slim but if Alex's insight into upgradability is anything to go by I might be able to convince my boss after the warranty period to up to maybe even 64? That'd be sick. The battery is only there to help me not lose progress in the rare occasion of power loss, other than functioning as a USP, it's not juicy enough to use it for more than an hour in medium workloads. Could maybe squeeze out 2 hours if I optimized it a little more. Regardless, with the experience of this machine, I'd probably buy the GP66 vector for myself if I had the funds...

I would buy the GS77 if it had a MUX switch, the GPU was higher wattage, and the screen had FreeSync+GSync. Hoping MSI add those to next year’s revision if I haven’t bought a Legion 5 Pro by then…
@@Ryne4S Not for the price they’re asking for. Also increasing the wattage seems feasible since it’s pretty silent and cool at the current wattage. MUX switch was part of the specs when it was unveiled at CES but didn’t make it to the released product for some reason.
@@suitknol6604 How stupid to call others stupid when you know less than they do. FreeSync is to work with Optimus when MUX switch is disabled. G-Sync is for when MUX switch is enabled. The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro does exactly this.
@Rac3r4Life: Do you have one of the X1 laptops that has soldered-onto-the-motherboard Ram? If you do, you're going to be in a pickle, because Ram *does* fail, and when yours does (IF it ever does. And let's hope it doesn't :-( ), you're going to have essentially a fancy paperweight. (It's one of the reasons why I don't-like laptops with soldered components (such as soldered-onto-the-motherboard Ram, soldered-onto-the-motherboard internal-storage, soldered-onto-the-motherboard WiFi card, soldered-onto-the-motherboard processor, etcetera). It makes a laptop less-Fixable/less-Repairable/less-User-Friendly). (Same thing goes with an internal battery. Less user-friendly (and less-easier to "disconnect and remove" like the laptops-of-old with externally-accessible batteries (examples: Toshiba Satellite A40-SP151. ASUS P43E-XH31. Thinkpad T420. Etcetera)), and all that heat generated by the battery, stuck next-to the SSD chips, but-also stuck-next to the Ram chips, but-also stuck-next to the Processor chips, and concentrating all that heat-inside the laptop can't-be-good). :-(
@@reoencarcelado5904 RAM has a very low failure rate, for one. Also, I have a 4 year service plan on the laptop. By that point I'll be ready to buy another. It's a $2500 computer that I use for my business to make money, so the extra couple hundred the extended warranty cost was basically irrelevant to me. So it is not something I am worried about. It's also a tradeoff you need to make. Soldered ram chips allow the laptop to be thinner and lighter. It also allows cooling on the RAM chips. There's also a great benefit to the speed of the memory. The fastest DDR4 SoDIMM's are 3,200Mhz. With soldered RAM you can have much higher speeds and lower timings. My RAM operates at 4400Mhz with 20-20-20-45 clocks. Finally, my last computer, a Surface Pro 4, also had soldered RAM. It is several years old and it is still going strong. While I understand your point, I don't see any problem with it. I also wouldn't say anyone else should worry too much about it. The amount of people who's RAM fails outside of the warranty period is so small it's basically irrelevant. RAM that fails prematurely tends to do so within a very short time after it's in use. If it makes it past a year it will most likely outlive the useful life of the computer. The only thing to make sure you do is get the amount of RAM you need at the time of purchase. I personally maxed the RAM in my X1 so I don't need to worry about running out as programs use more and more.

I actually got the GS66 with i7-1200k for work this past week specifically because of the TDP of the GPU and the lack of rainbow puke. The fingerprint reader is one of my favorite parts right behind how nice the build quality is. I originally wanted a Razer blade because of the rigid durability, but the GS66 is right on par while still being light enough to carry around. The 2.5 Gb ethernet port is also great for network management and engineering purposes. 9/10 great engineering work laptop for the money.
I actually bought an MSI laptop for business use a few years ago. Specs were great for the money, but drivers were garbage out of the box. Speakers sounded terrible and headset never worked right. Uninstalling the crappy drivers made things better, but still not great... Battery failed in the machine extremely quickly as well... Would NOT recommend...
Had the same experience, drivers were crap and the battery died in under a year and the Replacement battery didnt hold much longer. For the price I paid... nope never ever MSI again for me. XMG makes the most reliable Laptops imo. Their driver support is insanely good and the BIOS has much more options than I ever saw on a Laptop.
The battery kinda doesn't matter on gaming laptops as you gonna be hooked to the cable anyways so you might as well just shrink the battery and they should just pack more power in the gaming laptops so it's closer to the desktop PC gaming, at least try to.

You're not going to game unplugged for any length of time. But some people also use their gaming laptops for non-gaming purposes from time to time. A larger battery will give you better battery life if you are using it unplugged to work on word processing documents or spreadsheets, surfing the web, or watching streaming video, likely with the Nvidia GPU turned off. If you're buying JUST for gaming, putting in a smaller battery and bigger heatsinks might make sense. But if you want a more useful system all around, I'll take the larger battery and the slight hit to performance from the less capable cooling system.
I'd take the GP66...since my laptop serves as a low profile desktop, I have external mouse, keyboard and monitor connected....I've had my current laptop for about 2 years and can probably count on one hand how many times I've used the trackpad on it
I kinda wish that laptop reviews also contained cpu and gpu thermal tests, because I'm pretty sure both of these laptops will burn at 100C even with this cooling, mostly because of the slimness
I gotta say, the thumb reachable '\' key on MSI keyboards are amazing for anyone who does anything programming or has to type in file locations on windows.
actually I did like the clarification around 12:54. as much as I like Alex's presentation style, he can get pretty hand-wavy sometimes and just dismiss something as "gonna have a bad time" without getting into specifics.

@Carl Gunderson Incorrect. It's part of the USB Power Delivery standard version 3.1. 48V at 5A = 240W. You don't even need new cables; the ones that you used for 100W USB-PD charging are just fine. That said, and as Crestofhonor points out, there isn't much out there in the real world. Not quite zero, though. SlimQ has a 240W charger for sale, and Oppo has demoed a phone (yes, a PHONE!) with 240W charging; 0 to 100% in nine minutes.

@@baakster I know they're not using USB-C to charge. I just said that they COULD have used it for a 240W charger, but it would have had to be 48V at 5A rather than 20V at 12A.
The GP66 is a fingerprint magnet, its imposible to keep clean. but it looks so cool only had one minor problem, it gets so hot that i think the plastic bezel of the screen melted (deformed) when the lid was closed, but it is barley visible (only in reflections)
plastic bezel screen melted when the lid closed is unforgivable for me, since I'm using my laptop like a pc (lid closed all the time)... good thing that omen 15 have some gap between screen and body (which is one of bad point from most reviewer on omen 15, now I'm thankful for it)
@@robertlinke2666 the heatsinks are on the bottom, but the top is made from metal so all the keyboard area gets very hot The entire laptop is one big heatsink and you could probably burn your fingers if you touch the metal around the keyboard
how is it treating you? good battery life? how are the fans? I can't have them kicking up too much right away if I'm using the laptop in public like when I'm at work on break.
Prefer the cheaper faster one, if you using it as a desktop replacement, you will likely have it hooked up to an external screen and a real mouse (I hate trackpads in general, so always plug in real mouse).
I would never buy MSI again, great product and all, but driving any of these for a long time is a pain. No support, shitty software, and most of the time they don't meet up to expectations. (Take my Prestige 14 being advertised with 12 hours of battery life yet watching 1080p F1 races on battery lasts only 2-3 hours on "Super Battery" mode) Not recommended.

I got my boss to buy us $5,000 Lenovo Thinkpad laptops for work. I work in the event industry, video walls, presentations, lighting. It's about $3000 more than he needed to spend for that sort of work.
You're a good employee! Could have been honest though. As a CTO/CIO I often purchased devices more powerful than they had to be for my employees if it made them happy. But I knew it.
IMHO a Framework would be a better laptop to convince your work to purchase. I am not saying this because of the Linus Media Group being a major shareholder, but because of the easy repairability should the laptops get damaged. Heck, it would be great if schools invested in them as well.

The best thing about MSI laptops and mainboards is the advanced BIOS that lets you modify anything and everything. In my new GP66 Leopard, I have the i7-11800H running at 4.6 GHz on all cores, so it's always bit faster than similarly spec'ed laptops. I have it undervolted by 92 mV so it can run at much lower temperatures, keeping high clocks longer and using less energy, up to 20 watts at full load: more power left for the GPU. I have bigger, faster XMP RAM installed for my RAM disks that I use for temporary files and browser cache and which get to 13 GB/s read and 19 GB/s write. An MSI machine will always let you do those things easily without any BIOS modding and reflashing while those by most other manufacturers won't. Also, this laptop's fans are actually pretty nice sounding. They are far less intrusive at the same speeds compared with many others. At high speeds, they sound more like a car engine than a jet engine.
We've been using the GF65 Thin For some corp customers 2020 to now. 180 W AC, mix of GPU depending on available model , gtx 1060, gtx 1660 ti, and RTX 3060.
Another fun part about laptop shopping is good ole thermal throttling. It can be loaded with all the top shelf components available, but if it can't breathe you're not doing much of anything
As an all round mobile laptop the stealth is probably preferable but as a portable desktop replacement the Vector would be the way to go given that you'll likely be pairing it with additional cooling, screen, keyboard and mouse, thus negating it's downsides.
I've bought 2022 MSI GP76 12UGS and I love it! Although my laptop has some heat issue and a bit of flickering, as my first ever gaming laptop, it has been so good! The new all metal chasis for 2022 for GP line up is a very good addition too for sturdyness. I normally use my laptop as desktop replacement for my oversea college life, so I went with GP76 for more power. Upgradability is nice touch too.
Managed to persuade my boss to get me the MSI Katana GF66, which has the i7-11800H and RTX 3060 in. That's about as far as I could push it for frontend web development. Wish I'd managed to get him to go with the Stealth though. Really impressed with MSI.

The teardown on my GS77 to upgrade the ram was an absolute nightmare. I think I damage my webcam switch because it wiggles like crazy now. No, I didn't have an ifixit tool. But I had fingernails.
I like how every manufacture tries to go lenovo legion style, they undrestood that colourfull lamborghini inspired body is cool if you are a kid but it looks ridiculous when you take it to university library or to work. Since during covid midrange completely died as a market segment I bought Levono legions as new company laptops, we needed something with decent gpu and regular ports (at least 4 USBs and ethernet). Ive chose one of the cheapest legions on the market (2021 model), it looks decent, not like a toy, but still has power. Funny thing is that I avoided other brands for their looks and price, not performace. I wanted something like professional laptops for work, but they were either 20-40% more expensive or much less powerfull, eg lenovo offered me thinkpads with worse specs but for much more like legion it was 700 vs 1300. Im glad that manufacturers finally understood that not everyone want either ultrabook with 1 usb-c or toy like funny looking powerhouse. For company that need fast and reliable pc for calculations and 3D models low-mid range gaming laptops are best choice. Anothing is that engineers are happy that they can take them home and game on them, something that would be not possible on Pro books, thinkpad or other business models.
nice looking laptop! I use a razerblade 15 late 2020 model with a 1660ti and an i7 10750h and it's still powering through games at 1080p 120hz. It's nothing compared to my desktop but i work 12 hour nights and that laptop has saved me many long boring nights (I'm a security guard) plus the fact i got it used off amazon for a fraction of the price made it more worthwhile. Not got any experience with an MSI laptop but i can say despite the hate Razer get i've never had any issues with their products and always found the build and quality to be far better than most.
I have the Vector GP66 HX. I didn't choose it, it was gifted to me. But, had I chosen, I would have chosen the Stealth because it's 17", it has better speakers and it has the single most important thing after the CPU/GPU combo: A FRIGGIN NUMBER PAD. That should be 100% standard equipment on every laptop.
Personal preference but I prefer benchmark with out-of-the-box setting before changing anything, because that's what user mostly gonna use without tinker too much setting Was referring the Forza benchmark

Quiet boy wins in my books. I'd give up a few frames for the quiet, better speakers and larger trackpad with sturdier frame.

@@gamerdweebentertainment1616 GPU max TGP is listed by MSI. You should never buy a gaming laptop without knowing the gpu wattage as that will affect the performance dramatically in some cases. There are ultra thin laptops with 3080s and 80 watt tgps that will perform much worse than 3070s with better wattage
Jarrod's Tech already has a full list of every laptop he has tested just go there. Or hardware unboxed generally has more detail that LTT too.
As for how they know GPU power generally listed and also as the tester with the device can just run software to see GPU power. Higher GPU power almost always means faster in gaming laptops so fairly easy to judge. Except for weird cases of CPU throttles

But I bought a Legion 5 Pro… so I would probably put the Stealth in my cart, stare at it, then buy the Vector.
IMO i love the design of MSI laptops, but they are so flimsy you have to treat them like glass. I realize he says that's been improved, but improved doesn't mean fixed IMO. I think for it to be this thin with these components they need to give a metal chassis a shot
MSI postions themselves as a value brand, or at least used to when I bought a gaming laptop from them back in 2017. I remember choosing between an MSI and an HP laptop with the same CPU and GPU, and the MSI was a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

I bought a MSI GL75 laptop, because it was a bit cheaper than the ASUS alternative, and I 1000% regret it. Just keeping it in a soft laptop bag, the chassis and screen is so flexible it squished the screen in so there is a huge scuff from the stupid ridge thing at the bottom of the keyboard, all the way across the screen. And whoever laid out the keyboard needs to be fired with prejudice, it is, without a doubt, the worst layout I have ever seen. Its also quite loud, and comes with tons of bloatware. My first and last MSI laptop.
MSI's high-end workstation laptops with durable build are "Creator" series - M16, Z16, and Z17. This "GS" is a mid-range gaming lineup for budget conscious consumers. So of course build quality is not the highest priority.
For that money I would expect an magnesium backcover with captive screws, like other cheaper laptops use.
I love how they have a whole team of writers then hosts just guess at the specs and leave it up to the editors to put the real specs on screen

The last time I bought an MSi laptop that you recommended, I needed to get an RMA, and MSi left me out to dry. They wouldn’t respond to e-mails, they blocked me on social media, ended phone calls while I was on hold… I didn’t even express anger to them. Disappointment, yes. But I wasn’t offensive, I was just in a predicament because they sent me a defective product and wouldn’t ship it to Japan when I’d be living there by the time they’d receive the GS70 Stealth Pro 2QE.
To the other viewers, I strongly recommend against buying MSi’s laptops. I hope they’ve changed as a company, but if they haven’t, they don’t support their most premium products.
Bro, if your use case involves "sending replacement to an entirely different country" you're going to be disappointed. Laptop makers are not concierges.

I had two months before I left the country, and I spent them trying to get an RMA while I was still here. They still led me to dead-ends by hanging up when I was on hold. I’d get close to support, be put on hold, then the call would drop.

The really did pull back on the gamer aesthetics, I feel like the old Lambo badge might stop it being taken seriously in the workplace though, I'd swap it for "MSI" logo that's at the bottom of the screen but then I've never liked the badge.
The MSI Modern series is a great example of a more serious looking MSI machine. Then again, it is aimed at business customers so that makes sense. Oddly enough it doesn't feature a numpad though.....

I love the collective "woah" when the bare copper heatpipes are revealed. I agree that they really are pretty and have the extra benefit of (likely) not costing the manufacturer any more since there's no need to paint them.
I love the comparison between the two laptops in the Forza benchmark, it's probably one of the best examples that I've seen lately of two laptops that have different specs, different CPU, different RAM, different Motherboard, same GPU with different wattage, and they ended up pretty similar in performance. Obviously each one is going to have it's advantage at something though.

I use a GP66 Leopard for work. It is pretty good. The fan sound can be fun in the office when I use GPU heavy stuff and everyone starts prepping their passports before the boarding the plane, but it is plenty powerful.
Though in real world use, it sorely needs a cooling stand. The fans are not powerful enough to actually cool the system properly despite the earshattering sounds.
The keys are comfortable, although in my hungarian layout the ' í ' is placed in a rather unusual place and a ' 1 ' keycap fell off early on (I was able to push it back finally).
The CPU is enough for what I use it for, the GPU (3070) is good enough for most stuff and is a huge step up from my old 980, so no complaints there, the 16GB ram is a bit slim but if Alex's insight into upgradability is anything to go by I might be able to convince my boss after the warranty period to up to maybe even 64? That'd be sick. The battery is only there to help me not lose progress in the rare occasion of power loss, other than functioning as a USP, it's not juicy enough to use it for more than an hour in medium workloads. Could maybe squeeze out 2 hours if I optimized it a little more.
Regardless, with the experience of this machine, I'd probably buy the GP66 vector for myself if I had the funds...

Ok, so the last time I bought a laptop in the US, the first step was to "remove the box", literally. I think MSI is skipping on crucial details.
I would buy the GS77 if it had a MUX switch, the GPU was higher wattage, and the screen had FreeSync+GSync. Hoping MSI add those to next year’s revision if I haven’t bought a Legion 5 Pro by then…

Also increasing the wattage seems feasible since it’s pretty silent and cool at the current wattage. MUX switch was part of the specs when it was unveiled at CES but didn’t make it to the released product for some reason.
@@suitknol6604 How stupid to call others stupid when you know less than they do. FreeSync is to work with Optimus when MUX switch is disabled. G-Sync is for when MUX switch is enabled. The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro does exactly this.

Do you have one of the X1 laptops that has soldered-onto-the-motherboard Ram? If you do, you're going to be in a pickle, because Ram *does* fail, and when yours does (IF it ever does. And let's hope it doesn't :-( ), you're going to have essentially a fancy paperweight.
(It's one of the reasons why I don't-like laptops with soldered components (such as soldered-onto-the-motherboard Ram, soldered-onto-the-motherboard internal-storage, soldered-onto-the-motherboard WiFi card, soldered-onto-the-motherboard processor, etcetera). It makes a laptop less-Fixable/less-Repairable/less-User-Friendly).
(Same thing goes with an internal battery. Less user-friendly (and less-easier to "disconnect and remove" like the laptops-of-old with externally-accessible batteries (examples: Toshiba Satellite A40-SP151. ASUS P43E-XH31. Thinkpad T420. Etcetera)), and all that heat generated by the battery, stuck next-to the SSD chips, but-also stuck-next to the Ram chips, but-also stuck-next to the Processor chips, and concentrating all that heat-inside the laptop can't-be-good).

@@reoencarcelado5904 RAM has a very low failure rate, for one. Also, I have a 4 year service plan on the laptop. By that point I'll be ready to buy another. It's a $2500 computer that I use for my business to make money, so the extra couple hundred the extended warranty cost was basically irrelevant to me. So it is not something I am worried about.
It's also a tradeoff you need to make. Soldered ram chips allow the laptop to be thinner and lighter. It also allows cooling on the RAM chips. There's also a great benefit to the speed of the memory. The fastest DDR4 SoDIMM's are 3,200Mhz. With soldered RAM you can have much higher speeds and lower timings. My RAM operates at 4400Mhz with 20-20-20-45 clocks.
Finally, my last computer, a Surface Pro 4, also had soldered RAM. It is several years old and it is still going strong. While I understand your point, I don't see any problem with it. I also wouldn't say anyone else should worry too much about it. The amount of people who's RAM fails outside of the warranty period is so small it's basically irrelevant. RAM that fails prematurely tends to do so within a very short time after it's in use. If it makes it past a year it will most likely outlive the useful life of the computer. The only thing to make sure you do is get the amount of RAM you need at the time of purchase. I personally maxed the RAM in my X1 so I don't need to worry about running out as programs use more and more.

I actually got the GS66 with i7-1200k for work this past week specifically because of the TDP of the GPU and the lack of rainbow puke. The fingerprint reader is one of my favorite parts right behind how nice the build quality is. I originally wanted a Razer blade because of the rigid durability, but the GS66 is right on par while still being light enough to carry around. The 2.5 Gb ethernet port is also great for network management and engineering purposes. 9/10 great engineering work laptop for the money.
I'd go the stealth because of the screen size. When I upgraded from a 15" to a 17" it was amazing, not sure I could go back.

I actually bought an MSI laptop for business use a few years ago. Specs were great for the money, but drivers were garbage out of the box. Speakers sounded terrible and headset never worked right. Uninstalling the crappy drivers made things better, but still not great... Battery failed in the machine extremely quickly as well... Would NOT recommend...
Had the same experience, drivers were crap and the battery died in under a year and the Replacement battery didnt hold much longer. For the price I paid... nope never ever MSI again for me. XMG makes the most reliable Laptops imo. Their driver support is insanely good and the BIOS has much more options than I ever saw on a Laptop.
The battery kinda doesn't matter on gaming laptops as you gonna be hooked to the cable anyways so you might as well just shrink the battery and they should just pack more power in the gaming laptops so it's closer to the desktop PC gaming, at least try to.
You're not going to game unplugged for any length of time. But some people also use their gaming laptops for non-gaming purposes from time to time. A larger battery will give you better battery life if you are using it unplugged to work on word processing documents or spreadsheets, surfing the web, or watching streaming video, likely with the Nvidia GPU turned off.
If you're buying JUST for gaming, putting in a smaller battery and bigger heatsinks might make sense. But if you want a more useful system all around, I'll take the larger battery and the slight hit to performance from the less capable cooling system.
I'd take the GP66...since my laptop serves as a low profile desktop, I have external mouse, keyboard and monitor connected....I've had my current laptop for about 2 years and can probably count on one hand how many times I've used the trackpad on it
I'd probably go with the Vector. Cheaper, 1080p resolution means it'll stay relevant longer for gaming, and smaller size makes it a bit more portable.

@Carl Gunderson Incorrect. It's part of the USB Power Delivery standard version 3.1. 48V at 5A = 240W. You don't even need new cables; the ones that you used for 100W USB-PD charging are just fine.
That said, and as Crestofhonor points out, there isn't much out there in the real world. Not quite zero, though. SlimQ has a 240W charger for sale, and Oppo has demoed a phone (yes, a PHONE!) with 240W charging; 0 to 100% in nine minutes.

The GP66 is a fingerprint magnet, its imposible to keep clean. but it looks so cool
only had one minor problem, it gets so hot that i think the plastic bezel of the screen melted (deformed) when the lid was closed, but it is barley visible (only in reflections)

plastic bezel screen melted when the lid closed is unforgivable for me, since I'm using my laptop like a pc (lid closed all the time)... good thing that omen 15 have some gap between screen and body (which is one of bad point from most reviewer on omen 15, now I'm thankful for it)

The entire laptop is one big heatsink and you could probably burn your fingers if you touch the metal around the keyboard

Prefer the cheaper faster one, if you using it as a desktop replacement, you will likely have it hooked up to an external screen and a real mouse (I hate trackpads in general, so always plug in real mouse).

I would never buy MSI again, great product and all, but driving any of these for a long time is a pain. No support, shitty software, and most of the time they don't meet up to expectations. (Take my Prestige 14 being advertised with 12 hours of battery life yet watching 1080p F1 races on battery lasts only 2-3 hours on "Super Battery" mode) Not recommended.
I recently picked up the MSI Delta 15 AMD Advantage laptop and really love it.

I work in the event industry, video walls, presentations, lighting. It's about $3000 more than he needed to spend for that sort of work.

IMHO a Framework would be a better laptop to convince your work to purchase. I am not saying this because of the Linus Media Group being a major shareholder, but because of the easy repairability should the laptops get damaged. Heck, it would be great if schools invested in them as well.

The best thing about MSI laptops and mainboards is the advanced BIOS that lets you modify anything and everything.
In my new GP66 Leopard, I have the i7-11800H running at 4.6 GHz on all cores, so it's always bit faster than similarly spec'ed laptops. I have it undervolted by 92 mV so it can run at much lower temperatures, keeping high clocks longer and using less energy, up to 20 watts at full load: more power left for the GPU. I have bigger, faster XMP RAM installed for my RAM disks that I use for temporary files and browser cache and which get to 13 GB/s read and 19 GB/s write.
An MSI machine will always let you do those things easily without any BIOS modding and reflashing while those by most other manufacturers won't.
Also, this laptop's fans are actually pretty nice sounding. They are far less intrusive at the same speeds compared with many others. At high speeds, they sound more like a car engine than a jet engine.
We've been using the GF65 Thin For some corp customers 2020 to now. 180 W AC, mix of GPU depending on available model , gtx 1060, gtx 1660 ti, and RTX 3060.
Another fun part about laptop shopping is good ole thermal throttling. It can be loaded with all the top shelf components available, but if it can't breathe you're not doing much of anything

As an all round mobile laptop the stealth is probably preferable but as a portable desktop replacement the Vector would be the way to go given that you'll likely be pairing it with additional cooling, screen, keyboard and mouse, thus negating it's downsides.
I've bought 2022 MSI GP76 12UGS and I love it! Although my laptop has some heat issue and a bit of flickering, as my first ever gaming laptop, it has been so good! The new all metal chasis for 2022 for GP line up is a very good addition too for sturdyness. I normally use my laptop as desktop replacement for my oversea college life, so I went with GP76 for more power. Upgradability is nice touch too.

Managed to persuade my boss to get me the MSI Katana GF66, which has the i7-11800H and RTX 3060 in. That's about as far as I could push it for frontend web development. Wish I'd managed to get him to go with the Stealth though. Really impressed with MSI.

I like how every manufacture tries to go lenovo legion style, they undrestood that colourfull lamborghini inspired body is cool if you are a kid but it looks ridiculous when you take it to university library or to work. Since during covid midrange completely died as a market segment I bought Levono legions as new company laptops, we needed something with decent gpu and regular ports (at least 4 USBs and ethernet). Ive chose one of the cheapest legions on the market (2021 model), it looks decent, not like a toy, but still has power. Funny thing is that I avoided other brands for their looks and price, not performace. I wanted something like professional laptops for work, but they were either 20-40% more expensive or much less powerfull, eg lenovo offered me thinkpads with worse specs but for much more like legion it was 700 vs 1300. Im glad that manufacturers finally understood that not everyone want either ultrabook with 1 usb-c or toy like funny looking powerhouse. For company that need fast and reliable pc for calculations and 3D models low-mid range gaming laptops are best choice. Anothing is that engineers are happy that they can take them home and game on them, something that would be not possible on Pro books, thinkpad or other business models.
I really like that MSI has made laptop with UHD screen and also a numpad. Finally something to replace my father’s ThinkPad P51.

nice looking laptop! I use a razerblade 15 late 2020 model with a 1660ti and an i7 10750h and it's still powering through games at 1080p 120hz. It's nothing compared to my desktop but i work 12 hour nights and that laptop has saved me many long boring nights (I'm a security guard) plus the fact i got it used off amazon for a fraction of the price made it more worthwhile. Not got any experience with an MSI laptop but i can say despite the hate Razer get i've never had any issues with their products and always found the build and quality to be far better than most.
I have the Vector GP66 HX. I didn't choose it, it was gifted to me. But, had I chosen, I would have chosen the Stealth because it's 17", it has better speakers and it has the single most important thing after the CPU/GPU combo: A FRIGGIN NUMBER PAD. That should be 100% standard equipment on every laptop.

Personal preference but I prefer benchmark with out-of-the-box setting before changing anything, because that's what user mostly gonna use without tinker too much setting
