FYI, the ZenBook Duo series are entirely Intel exclusive, meaning "co-developed with and paid by Intel to use Intel CPUs only". So that's the reason for 2-3 hour battery on the Duo Pro 14, despite ASUS touting "portability". Whereas VivoBook Pro and Zephyrus Duo are ASUS line of creator laptops that use AMD Ryzen H-series CPUs, if you'd like some decent battery life to go with that power. Another FYI, the "pixel graininess" of OLED touch screen is only unique to certain laptops. Few Lenovo laptops that share the same display apparently do not have this issue.
Bah booo. You know what I want? A reasonably priced laptop with a mediocre but decent enough gpu to run cad, dual screens, and ecc (though that should be on every product, and not just the on chip variety)
@@BeefIngot most gpus can run CAD, CAD is Way more cpu intensive (although depending on which one you are Talking about it can be more Single or multi threaded). Simple to Medium projects can run in things like inventor or nx (or solid works) even on lower end gpus. I dont know how would that small screen at the botton Provide any help though.

The ZenBook ProDuo is my absolute favorite laptop design ever. I do video editing and the dual screen augment that capability to a phenomenal degree. They're both touch screens and both work with the pen. The one thing I don't like is the very small track-pad way over on the right of the keyboard. It's one reason I almost always use it with a mouse. The unit I have not only has a powerful CPU but also includes a fairly powerful GPU so rendering is quick, even if you don't add an external GPU. Mine also came with an wrist-pad that connects (via magnets) at the bottom of the keyboard. It's OK, but not phenomenal. Asus is leading the market on these specialty-designed laptops (with Lenovo coming out with a few interesting ideas recently). I really look forward to seeing what they'll come out with next.
@@clocktechgame4178 It's over a year old, so it has the RTX 2060 (and the i9-9th gen series). I'd like to update to 12th gen CPU and possibly 3000 series GPU, but this one is working so well for me, I can't justify the expenditure.
@@ALaModePi Ayyy I think we have the same model. I love mine. My main complaint has to do with the thunderbolt port, as it's not directly connected to the GPU like the HDMI port is. Which makes it not allow me to use my VR headset with my laptop. I have a love hate relationship with the trackpad, and it bugs me that they won't add the ability to use the bottom screen as a touchpad. I used to hate the keyboard placement, but I found that flipping my screen, then my laptop, and using the main screen for writing and taking notes has been amazing. The pen is pretty alright. I may have a defective pen as it likes to have episodes of drawing dots.
@@BakaDani I've never had that experience with my pen, so yours might be defective at that. At one point, I thought about just setting the trackpad as a keypad, but the lack of actual spaces between the keys made it a little hard to find the right one without looking and the necessary force to register the number was a bit on the high side. My only complaint with using it as a track-pad is that it's a bit small and sometimes I find myself just reaching up and tapping the screen rather than scrolling over to that point. I hadn't realized the Thunderbolt port wasn't directly attached to the CPU. That does explain a few hinky things I've noticed about it though I primarily use it to attach a port brick. (I have one at the office and one at home that are permanently attached to sound and a mouse so my docking procedure is just power, the brick, and yet another monitor (!) I neglected to mention that I also find the 2nd monitor useful for a/v calls. I have both OBS and the control window for Zoom there.
The Duo I’ve always like through their constant upgrade of it each time… it’s perfect for on the go music production having control by the fingers of faders and knob on plugins… I would also like the Duo for video editing also for this same reason… the bottom screen is great for a not too packed time line also leaving all the editing options above it… but it’s swappable at any point so whatever is best for workflow can be adjusted on the fly… it having thunderbolt 4 is a big “finally” for me for connecting thunderbolt 3 interfaces and having them run as smoothly as they do on Mac… thunderbolt 3 ports on windows can be a bit temperamental, well, with audio interfaces that is
As a professional filmmaker and Photographer i love my Zenbook Duo 14. ive been using it for almost a year now, and its great for working on the plane or on the go. Having the timeline on the second screen or the creator controls for lightroom there as well is game changer. Asus has been killing it with their laptops.
As someone who edits films and works on VFX and art related activities, how do you find the keyboard arrangement? I had a small go on my friends because he was doing info per take on set and I struggled to type on it with it on my lap. He said he mainly uses it on a table and only that, which I can understand, but for me I want to have something that I can do either with haha
@@e.m.ber. you get used to it pretty quickly. On a desktop its the same as a regular keyboard of course. On your lap for short burst typing it's totally fine. For anything longterm typing I would suggest getting a laptop table or tray with a wrist rest built in. When I edit on the couch or in bed I want something like that anyways it keeps the laptop cool and angles them for better viewing.
Seriously love the second screen . Its so much useful . After using zenbook oled for a month , i went to macbook and i was instantly hating it lols. I dont think i can ever go back .
I almost bought this, but the OLED Version was too expensive for me. I've had the dual-IPS version for 9 months though and have loved it! This is a great laptop. It was funny seeing Ned from No Way Home use the gamer version of it too lol
If I had the money to burn, I'd want the dual screen one. I like having as much screen real estate as possible, so on my desktop I have 3 monitors, and I've always loved the idea of having multiple screens on a laptop.

I use to own the gaming version of the dual display asus laptop and it wasn’t that great… the software has probably matured though from the last two years
Please also note if you're having a hard time with the small trackpad you can three finger press the second screen and the whole screen becomes a giant trackpad and works surprisingly well. So in a way this laptop has the smallest and largest trackpad on any laptop 🤣 and technically the only with two trackpads as well.
I personally use the zephyrus-forward-style keyboard since 2019, and it is fantastic, you need a decent surface to rest your palms on in front of the laptop, but aside from that the feeling is AMAZING! The trackpad on the right, with numpad integrated, is also something pretty damn smart as well IMO!
I'd 100% go for the dual screen, I'm pretty much always in need of any extra screen real estate I can find while traveling. Will probably buy one of these when it comes out to replace my Book 13.
I have a Pro Duo and love it. Having two screens for college work, gaming on the go, and hobby work like CAD and Unity has been very nice. It does everything that I throw at it, but I do have to have that power cable with me at all times. I turn off the bottom screen when I'm not using or needing it and that helps a bit.
@@verynice4829 I would probably look into their other models over this one specifically, like the Zephyrus Duo thing seems to be larger so hopefully they jammed a bigger battery into it at the expense of not having a pen. I love the premise though. I'd probably keep my Book 13 for like.. going out to the coffee shop and getting some work done.
Ive got an Zenbook pro Duo and if you do any work that is not just writing you generally look at less than 2hours of battery (or at the charger cable nonstop ; )
@@eris6245 The thing is, windows is highly unoptimized to sustain long periods of battery. Meanwhile M1 Macs can go over 21 hours on standard use. Even my 90whr ASUS TUF on silent mode (fans are off on silent mode) hovers around 7 hours and 3 hours on heavy gpu usage

I think the bottom screen has a Matte finish, thus the color & texture differences. Matte finish on the outer layer is a good solution when you consider the user will finger it more than the main display.
I daily a 2020 pro duo, my two complaints have always been the display on the top screen not being bright enough, excellent clarity though. And the second is the lack of usb-c charging, I regularly use thunderbolt docks so it would be nice to have a 1 cable dock solution rather than a dock + charge cable. At least they addressed one of the issues.
I love the X16, but starting at 2600 bucks seems very rough for the specs at hand. I suppose the practicality of the layout has to really fit your workflow to make it worthwhile.
I'm just imagining being able to have a game on the main display, with OBS and Discord splitting the bottom display. That would be fantastic. Any workflow would benefit immensely from that. (So I'd go for the 14")
Id love the scond screen for signing documents with a pen. A $30 pentab does that job right now but drawing on the screen itself would be a thousand times better and probably better than an extra device to do it.
I would love to see Anthony do Short trying to run Linux on it. I would definitely consider one of these if Linux runs decently on it with both screens usable
The Duos have ran Linux fairly well so far. I currently Dual Boot Elementary OS on my UX481 ZenBook Duo, and I've heard others have run Linux as well. The biggest issue is that you need a third party application to control bottom display brightness, but the same is true on Windows lol. The main reason I don't full time use Linux is personal preference, and Win11 has better touch support, which makes using the cramped touchpad less of an issue.
Love these laptops with dual screens, great design, great way to get more airflow. Seems like the smaller one is an IPS panel, not OLED like the main screen, which does make sense, that's where I'd be storing my icons to prevent burn-in.
The dual touch screens has completely changed the way I work while traveling! I no longer have to deal with not having a second monitor whenever I stop at a coffee shop or hotel to work! It's fantastic! I legit mostly just keep notes and teams on the bottom monitor (I know not very original) but being able to switch teams from the small screen for messaging to big screen when I'm in a meeting or call with 1 button is fantastic.
@@kaleidodeer and also extra terminals and logs you want to see while debugging. Basically you use multiple stuff at once and dual screen allows you to skip switching between windows 🤓

I just bought the ROG Zephyrus M16, here's a couple of things I found with it: I paid $1500 after tax, it has the i9-11900H, 16GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, and the RTX 3060 - pound for pound I think the M16 was the best deal available from their lineup. I was recently hit by a drunk driver who was running from the police, he hit me in the rear corner at 130 mph. My Zephyrus M16 was in the trunk, it definitely got tossed around. Upon inspecting it, it was definitely warped but nothing looked destroyed. I powered it on and ran a game to heat it up - it DOES get really hot - upon getting hot though, I was able to slowly push the bends back out. It appears the chassis is maybe an aluminum alloy? It's very tough. The only remaining tells of the wreck are the crach in the thin part under teh USB-A port, and a pressure spot in the top right corner of the display. From a design perspective, I think the only part I find odd is that 8GB if the ram is soldered to the motherboard. I replaced the other 8GB with a 32GB stick of G.Skill Ripjaw for $100, totaling 40GB. I normally like to match all my modules but this works great! As far as choosing between the Pro 14 Duo and the 16x, I guess it depends on the application. I would LOVE to have a laptop with a second display to watch chat while streaming. The 16X would have much better performance while gaming though. Factoring in the price, I'd go with the 16X while longing for the displays of the 14 Duo.
That absolutely messy screen wobble is such a deal breaker. I'm amazed you guys didn't even talk about it because for such premium products, you'd expect Asus to at least have the basics down.
I'm in love w/the dual screen concept. Being able 2 play games n cheat on da fly, I mean researching my next move... is AMAZING. Right up there w/consoles getting internal modems. IMO
Overall pretty solid. I just started my new job as a software dev and I loved the first gen zenbook duo that I currently have. Might seriously consider an upgrade
@@RichardBronosky I have an older zenbook duo running fedora, I cant guarantee it would run great on the new hardware, but its pretty good. There's a few minor bugs and the shortcut keys don't work but I still enjoy using it :)
@@steampunkenie9807 good to hear. I'm not worried about the shortcuts working. I can remap any of those things. The trouble is being able adjust the brightness of the screens independently using anything (preferably a cli command). Can you do that on yours?
I have the 15 Zenbook Pro Duo. A beast of machine. After you get used to have a laptop like this, going back to something " traditional " is quite hard. Working with this set up is insanely beautiful
I really really like this. This is the first multi display laptop in all the recent years that seems actually somewhat practical. I would SOOO love something like this as a video editor and have my timeline or media on the bottom screen as more screen space for the video preview on the top screen.
Apart from the useless arrow keys sure. And the touch screen as a selling point isn't entirely legitimate as it doesn't work on the entire display area. You have to get the 15 inch model if you want proper touch and not this fake implementation.
Dibs on dual screen here because the second screen lets me look at stuff while I'm doing something on the first. For example, where I'm currently employed, I commonly need to take data that's on a Google Docs spreadsheet and plug it in manually into our business's back end; having two screens - one for the spreadsheet, one for the back end - is amazing. I also use it at home for things I do when I relax, such as watching someone stream on one monitor and full-screen chat or Discord on another.
I'd take the 14" Dual Screen 100% 14" is perfect for carrying around and fits into my and nearly all good backpacks, usually they are a bit small for productive stuff but being able to drop timelines, toolbars, instrument racks, Stackoverflow or whatever on the second screen and dedicate the (really good) primary one to the actual subject of your work and not the tools is really nice. Although I'd be a bit worried about burn in long time, so it would be great if they offered an on board solution for that, as this could be a usecase for many people. Also 2880x1800@120Hz is way more useful than 4k@60Hz, at least for me at normal viewing angles that's just a waste of pixels at that display size.
The dual screen is probobly the way forward in the future. Everyone have dual screen desktop.. hardly cant work wirhout them... Makes sense to have laptops also
I'd go for the zenbook 16, cause I feel it has alot of functionality going for it cause of the dial, I'd personally prefer having that big trackpad with the slightly elevated keyboard cause it would feel good!

I reviewed the 15 inch zenbook duo recently, but I'm actually much more interested in that 14 inch version.... Packs a punch and is much lighter with dual 120hz screens, glad to see asus innovating!
Bit of a weird thing to geek out over, but I've been a left hand keyboard, right hand mouse AutoCAD user for about 20 odd years, and the thought of a laptop with an offset keyboard down the front and a right hand trackpad makes me unnaturally happy. I think I need this!
honestly, the angle of the keyboard kills the 16" for me. I really like the idea that the keyboard pops up, and allows more air to get to the fans, but that angle is just too steep. I feel if they decreased the angle by quite a lot, but it still allowed air, it would be perfect. But as it stands, just for usability, i'd have to choose the 14". And duel screens is amazing. I'll never go back to a single screen on my desktop. Having a duel display on a laptop sounds amazing. Can play games and chat at the same time, or play a game and have a guide for the game on the 2nd screen.
Finally, another laptop with dual-screen! I wish more laptops had multiple screens. *Especially cheap laptops!* (At $250-$300, too.) The space opened by the second screen could be used for better cooling, honestly. I wish we would see AMD-only versions of this laptop, with the CPU being an APU and having a dedicated graphics card, too. It would be awesome! Also, adding sliders and slider-based-joysticks (to be as low-profile as possible) would be great! And 15" laptops would definitely have room for such joysticks with a reset (re-center, re-zero) pinhole against joystick-drift and slider-drift (and for after replacing the springs), pinhole like the one smartphones use to eject the sim tray. And the smaller laptop could use two sliders instead of the joystick would mean you have to sacrifice a lot less space from the keyboard, but you need to use two fingers to control it in joystick mode. And a button which to get both the sliders and the joystick to work as (1) a mouse with acceleration, (2) mouse without acceleartion, (3) two independent sliders, (4) scroll wheel with side-scroll or scroll ball, (5) wheel like the one the 16" laptop in the video has.
I love how he notices “OLED issues” on the lower display which i’m 90% sure is IPS. I’m guessing the grain is just coming from being matte. Just kinda shows how hard it is to actually notice and diagnose some of these minor things on first look
Dual screens would be awesome for content creation while on the road. Especially if you can have your timeline down on the second screen and preview it on the larger screen that would be *chef's kiss*
I bought the VivoBook Pro 16X and couldn't be happier. Although there isn't much news on it. I took a chance and bought it on it's stats alone (after returning a ZenBook Pro 15 that I wasn't "feeling"). It has similar specs to both of those laptops you showed and cheaper with only a few concessions. Like I wanted a touchscreen and Thunderbolt with displayport passthrough, but they didn't offer it on the Ryzen 9 5900HX. I did come with 32GB of ram, a 3050Ti, 16:10 Pantone validated 4k OLED screen, a 1tb M.2 NVME SSD, and a digital version of the "nubbins" selector on the track pad. Oh and an Asus backpack and mouse. Did I mention it was cheaper too? I would love to hear your guys official expert opinion on it. Been waiting on a video to prove that I made a good decision... so pretty please?
Zenbook 16 for desktop replacement for my wife's desktop replacement. Photo and video editing are her favorite pass time. Dual 4K screens are a winner!
I'll take the 14 inch Duo (UX8402) for sure. The smaller form factor, OLED primary display, and an RTX 30xx GPU is my ideal combination. I just cancelled an order for a UX582 (15.6 inch current gen), and will wait for the release of the UX8402 instead.

I can see myself using this at the office or at home when I want a second screen. The thing for me is that I have a dual screen setup with a separate monitor at home and at my office. My second screen is 27 inches. So I don't know where this might fit in with me personally. I would probably use it in normal laptop mode on a plane or in a coffee shop. This is why I love my Zenbook Duo with an extra half screen. It's always in regular laptop mode and yet I always have a second screen. But for content creators, I can see this being awesome.
I don't know if this is an issue or not with these laptops, but I'd worry about small particles getting stuck under the second screen/slanted keyboard? Then again I guess it's probably very unlikely something like crumbs for example would make their way via the side entries.
@@TheExileFox The Yoga Book is a piece of crap, super slow, with shitty tactile. It's a gadget/toy, not a productivity device. I crave a real pro-user dual-screen laptop, something like the concept Asus Precog, the Dell Duet, the Intel Twin River, and the Compal Duo360.
from what I saw in a previous version this is more intended for music production because of the ease of use. It seems like with this one is now starting to be forwarded to photo and possibly video now
11:06 actually if you're a photographer you're probably using CF Express, SD is more a casual people with cameras thing, or drones with SD /MicroSD. All my cameras are either XQD of CFEx which even though are the same form factor/connector, require 2 different (and expensive) card readers. It would be amazing if any computers came with a backwards compatible CFEx slot
I hope that hinge is a pre-production quirk. My Zenbook Pro Duo can be opened with one finger and after having an older XPS 15, I love and appreciate not having to use two hands to open up my laptop. I do have the Pro Duo without the lifting display though, as my bottom screen if fixed in place and lifts up from the screen propping up the bottom part of the laptop. This is a really cool laptop though. I mostly use mine for college, but I also do 3d modeling, CAD, and Unity work on my laptop. My real complaints have to do with the software more than the hardware.
I use an Envy X360 13" because docked in tent mode I can position it between my main screen and my keyboard and have a drawing tablet. It's also better for it's thermals. I would probably go with the 14, but probably neither, the battery life must be horrible on them with the OLEDs and frankly these "cabrio" notebooks make me anxious how dirt and fluff can get in effortlessly inside the chassis.
IMO, something better for the cursor input would be a pointing stick (which I had to Google to find out the universal name because I just call it a TrackPoint)
I wouldn't want either, but if I had to choose, I'd say the Duo. Doing homework/taking notes would be easy, since you can have the material on the top screen and use the stylus on the bottom screen (for equations, diagrams, etc). If you need to type something in manually, the keyboard is literally right there, so that's a plus. I think it would be awkward to write with though, so a tablet + BT keyboard would probably be a better option for that.
Since the OG review on the Pro duo I've always been a fan of the series of laptops and I managed to acquire an older model last year (well if you consider from 2019 older) for a decent price on Ebay. I have seen the new 14 inch model out as a sample laptop in stores and I found the keyboard on the 14 inch a bit too small for my liking, It's also missing some of the cool features of the OG, like the light up numpad, that you can toggle to transform the trackpad into a numpad. Been daily driving the UX581 for about half a year now and I love it. It's great to do video editing and coding on and the touchscreen has been a bigger quality of life improvement than I had thought before (I came from a used w520). The pen works great for taking notes, so a big plus on that one. Edit: I just wish it had a bigger Linux community so maybe someone could decompile and reverse engineer the windows drivers and get the light bar at the bottom of the laptop working on arch
Weird, the ZenBook Duo 17" that I had bought 2 years ago came with an attachable wrist rest, I wonder why they stopped including it? I think it was really comfy, but also because the 17" was a bit more chonky so your hands would feel the edge a bit more.
We have the regular duo at our tech store and apparently the previous version had oled on both screens. dont know why they changed the bottom screen back to ips but definitely dislike the grainy film look even with teh hi res. i would choose a double screen version of the 16x. Bigger battery and duo layout would benefit a solid keyboard while still portable (but maybe i7 version to bring the price down not battery life?).

Right angle USB adapters are great for mice plugged into side ports to get the cord out of the way. I just leave the adapter on the mouse all the time.
I have the 14 and I love everything about it. The duo screen is great for my architect work having many windows open with my UA-cam running at the same time, but it did give me carpal tunnel cause the keypad to tight
i’ve been daily driving a zen book pro duo since 2020. the battery life sux, it’s heavy, the power cord is clunky, but the screens are fucking awesome. i use the trackpad with my right thumb, it actually feels amazing when it’s on your lap
I'm looking at buying the Zenbook 14 i love the small form factor and the dual screens. I'm a triple monitor user and laptops have been lacking in that one feature *ease of use for multi monitor setups* now i can be as productive with half the weight.
Personally I'd go with the 14 (I'm not a professional). Reason being is if I'm playing an older light game (ones where I don't necessarily need to here what's going on such as racing games), doing some random research, putting in job applications, etc. I could have the main screen for that and the secondary screen for music or UA-cam videos for ambient sound and to be able to control YT/Music without having to either change tabs or screens all together then that would be awesome. and another good use I could get out of it is playing some small light games and having discord on the bottom screen to read messages or switching between discord channels/servers when a friend wants to talk to me.
The 14 inch one looks tempting to me, partly because I can use the smaller screen as a "scratch pad" or "reference display" while I do my main work on the larger main display. ...though I would actually rather the display types be swapped, so that the OLED is on bottom and the main display is IPS in some ways. I actually wonder if you can completely black out the lower display while you're not using it as well. I also hate where the track pad is on most laptops, as I keep hitting it accidentally as I type it. Some even are so sensitive that they chatter in normal use, causing all sorts of false clicks when not intended. The 14 inch display looks more usable, though potentially less comfortable when used as its namesake--on the lap. I do like mine being an all in one, though.
I have the Zephyrus Duo 14 with the 3080 and 5900 and it's been a game changer for working while on the go and gaming. Windows 11 drastically killed my battery life on it, though, compared to how it was on windows 10 so I have to do some digging into why that is still.

Another FYI, the "pixel graininess" of OLED touch screen is only unique to certain laptops. Few Lenovo laptops that share the same display apparently do not have this issue.

@@BeefIngot most gpus can run CAD, CAD is Way more cpu intensive (although depending on which one you are Talking about it can be more Single or multi threaded). Simple to Medium projects can run in things like inventor or nx (or solid works) even on lower end gpus.

The ZenBook ProDuo is my absolute favorite laptop design ever. I do video editing and the dual screen augment that capability to a phenomenal degree. They're both touch screens and both work with the pen. The one thing I don't like is the very small track-pad way over on the right of the keyboard. It's one reason I almost always use it with a mouse. The unit I have not only has a powerful CPU but also includes a fairly powerful GPU so rendering is quick, even if you don't add an external GPU. Mine also came with an wrist-pad that connects (via magnets) at the bottom of the keyboard. It's OK, but not phenomenal.
Asus is leading the market on these specialty-designed laptops (with Lenovo coming out with a few interesting ideas recently). I really look forward to seeing what they'll come out with next.

@@ALaModePi Ayyy I think we have the same model. I love mine. My main complaint has to do with the thunderbolt port, as it's not directly connected to the GPU like the HDMI port is. Which makes it not allow me to use my VR headset with my laptop. I have a love hate relationship with the trackpad, and it bugs me that they won't add the ability to use the bottom screen as a touchpad.
I used to hate the keyboard placement, but I found that flipping my screen, then my laptop, and using the main screen for writing and taking notes has been amazing. The pen is pretty alright. I may have a defective pen as it likes to have episodes of drawing dots.
@@BakaDani I've never had that experience with my pen, so yours might be defective at that. At one point, I thought about just setting the trackpad as a keypad, but the lack of actual spaces between the keys made it a little hard to find the right one without looking and the necessary force to register the number was a bit on the high side. My only complaint with using it as a track-pad is that it's a bit small and sometimes I find myself just reaching up and tapping the screen rather than scrolling over to that point.
I hadn't realized the Thunderbolt port wasn't directly attached to the CPU. That does explain a few hinky things I've noticed about it though I primarily use it to attach a port brick. (I have one at the office and one at home that are permanently attached to sound and a mouse so my docking procedure is just power, the brick, and yet another monitor (!)
I neglected to mention that I also find the 2nd monitor useful for a/v calls. I have both OBS and the control window for Zoom there.
Any self-respecting professional will use a mouse no matter what.

The Duo I’ve always like through their constant upgrade of it each time… it’s perfect for on the go music production having control by the fingers of faders and knob on plugins… I would also like the Duo for video editing also for this same reason… the bottom screen is great for a not too packed time line also leaving all the editing options above it… but it’s swappable at any point so whatever is best for workflow can be adjusted on the fly… it having thunderbolt 4 is a big “finally” for me for connecting thunderbolt 3 interfaces and having them run as smoothly as they do on Mac… thunderbolt 3 ports on windows can be a bit temperamental, well, with audio interfaces that is
As a professional filmmaker and Photographer i love my Zenbook Duo 14. ive been using it for almost a year now, and its great for working on the plane or on the go. Having the timeline on the second screen or the creator controls for lightroom there as well is game changer. Asus has been killing it with their laptops.
As someone who edits films and works on VFX and art related activities, how do you find the keyboard arrangement? I had a small go on my friends because he was doing info per take on set and I struggled to type on it with it on my lap. He said he mainly uses it on a table and only that, which I can understand, but for me I want to have something that I can do either with haha
@@e.m.ber. you get used to it pretty quickly. On a desktop its the same as a regular keyboard of course. On your lap for short burst typing it's totally fine. For anything longterm typing I would suggest getting a laptop table or tray with a wrist rest built in. When I edit on the couch or in bed I want something like that anyways it keeps the laptop cool and angles them for better viewing.
This second screen actually seems pretty useable and practical.

If I had the money to burn, I'd want the dual screen one. I like having as much screen real estate as possible, so on my desktop I have 3 monitors, and I've always loved the idea of having multiple screens on a laptop.

I use to own the gaming version of the dual display asus laptop and it wasn’t that great… the software has probably matured though from the last two years
Please also note if you're having a hard time with the small trackpad you can three finger press the second screen and the whole screen becomes a giant trackpad and works surprisingly well. So in a way this laptop has the smallest and largest trackpad on any laptop 🤣 and technically the only with two trackpads as well.
I personally use the zephyrus-forward-style keyboard since 2019, and it is fantastic, you need a decent surface to rest your palms on in front of the laptop, but aside from that the feeling is AMAZING! The trackpad on the right, with numpad integrated, is also something pretty damn smart as well IMO!
I'd 100% go for the dual screen, I'm pretty much always in need of any extra screen real estate I can find while traveling. Will probably buy one of these when it comes out to replace my Book 13.
I wouldn’t trust a 76whr battery laptop for travelling purposes. 2 fans and 2 screens just take a lot of energy.
I have a Pro Duo and love it. Having two screens for college work, gaming on the go, and hobby work like CAD and Unity has been very nice. It does everything that I throw at it, but I do have to have that power cable with me at all times. I turn off the bottom screen when I'm not using or needing it and that helps a bit.
@@verynice4829 I would probably look into their other models over this one specifically, like the Zephyrus Duo thing seems to be larger so hopefully they jammed a bigger battery into it at the expense of not having a pen. I love the premise though. I'd probably keep my Book 13 for like.. going out to the coffee shop and getting some work done.
Ive got an Zenbook pro Duo and if you do any work that is not just writing you generally look at less than 2hours of battery (or at the charger cable nonstop ; )
@@eris6245 The thing is, windows is highly unoptimized to sustain long periods of battery. Meanwhile M1 Macs can go over 21 hours on standard use. Even my 90whr ASUS TUF on silent mode (fans are off on silent mode) hovers around 7 hours and 3 hours on heavy gpu usage
The main display appears exceptionally bouncy, even with the slightest movement. I think ASUS need to look at that in V2.0
My laptop is OLED too and does exactly the same thing. Something to do with the screens being less inherently rigid, or having less weight perhaps?

I think the bottom screen has a Matte finish, thus the color & texture differences. Matte finish on the outer layer is a good solution when you consider the user will finger it more than the main display.
Top screen on Duo wiggles a lot. I think this would be pretty annoying, especially if it's not on really solid surface.

I daily a 2020 pro duo, my two complaints have always been the display on the top screen not being bright enough, excellent clarity though.
And the second is the lack of usb-c charging, I regularly use thunderbolt docks so it would be nice to have a 1 cable dock solution rather than a dock + charge cable.
At least they addressed one of the issues.

I love the X16, but starting at 2600 bucks seems very rough for the specs at hand. I suppose the practicality of the layout has to really fit your workflow to make it worthwhile.
I'm just imagining being able to have a game on the main display, with OBS and Discord splitting the bottom display. That would be fantastic. Any workflow would benefit immensely from that.

Id love the scond screen for signing documents with a pen. A $30 pentab does that job right now but drawing on the screen itself would be a thousand times better and probably better than an extra device to do it.

I think it does run Linux, I'm pretty sure one of my professors was daily driving a duo and he is an absolute linux geek
The Duos have ran Linux fairly well so far. I currently Dual Boot Elementary OS on my UX481 ZenBook Duo, and I've heard others have run Linux as well. The biggest issue is that you need a third party application to control bottom display brightness, but the same is true on Windows lol. The main reason I don't full time use Linux is personal preference, and Win11 has better touch support, which makes using the cramped touchpad less of an issue.

Love these laptops with dual screens, great design, great way to get more airflow. Seems like the smaller one is an IPS panel, not OLED like the main screen, which does make sense, that's where I'd be storing my icons to prevent burn-in.
The dual touch screens has completely changed the way I work while traveling! I no longer have to deal with not having a second monitor whenever I stop at a coffee shop or hotel to work! It's fantastic!
I legit mostly just keep notes and teams on the bottom monitor (I know not very original) but being able to switch teams from the small screen for messaging to big screen when I'm in a meeting or call with 1 button is fantastic.

I just bought the ROG Zephyrus M16, here's a couple of things I found with it:
I paid $1500 after tax, it has the i9-11900H, 16GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, and the RTX 3060 - pound for pound I think the M16 was the best deal available from their lineup.
I was recently hit by a drunk driver who was running from the police, he hit me in the rear corner at 130 mph. My Zephyrus M16 was in the trunk, it definitely got tossed around. Upon inspecting it, it was definitely warped but nothing looked destroyed. I powered it on and ran a game to heat it up - it DOES get really hot - upon getting hot though, I was able to slowly push the bends back out. It appears the chassis is maybe an aluminum alloy? It's very tough. The only remaining tells of the wreck are the crach in the thin part under teh USB-A port, and a pressure spot in the top right corner of the display. From a design perspective, I think the only part I find odd is that 8GB if the ram is soldered to the motherboard. I replaced the other 8GB with a 32GB stick of G.Skill Ripjaw for $100, totaling 40GB. I normally like to match all my modules but this works great!
As far as choosing between the Pro 14 Duo and the 16x, I guess it depends on the application. I would LOVE to have a laptop with a second display to watch chat while streaming. The 16X would have much better performance while gaming though. Factoring in the price, I'd go with the 16X while longing for the displays of the 14 Duo.
That absolutely messy screen wobble is such a deal breaker. I'm amazed you guys didn't even talk about it because for such premium products, you'd expect Asus to at least have the basics down.
I'm in love w/the dual screen concept. Being able 2 play games n cheat on da fly, I mean researching my next move... is AMAZING. Right up there w/consoles getting internal modems. IMO

Overall pretty solid. I just started my new job as a software dev and I loved the first gen zenbook duo that I currently have. Might seriously consider an upgrade

@@RichardBronosky I have an older zenbook duo running fedora, I cant guarantee it would run great on the new hardware, but its pretty good. There's a few minor bugs and the shortcut keys don't work but I still enjoy using it :)

@@steampunkenie9807 good to hear. I'm not worried about the shortcuts working. I can remap any of those things. The trouble is being able adjust the brightness of the screens independently using anything (preferably a cli command). Can you do that on yours?
I have the 15 Zenbook Pro Duo. A beast of machine. After you get used to have a laptop like this, going back to something " traditional " is quite hard. Working with this set up is insanely beautiful
I really really like this. This is the first multi display laptop in all the recent years that seems actually somewhat practical. I would SOOO love something like this as a video editor and have my timeline or media on the bottom screen as more screen space for the video preview on the top screen.
Apart from the useless arrow keys sure. And the touch screen as a selling point isn't entirely legitimate as it doesn't work on the entire display area. You have to get the 15 inch model if you want proper touch and not this fake implementation.
Dibs on dual screen here because the second screen lets me look at stuff while I'm doing something on the first. For example, where I'm currently employed, I commonly need to take data that's on a Google Docs spreadsheet and plug it in manually into our business's back end; having two screens - one for the spreadsheet, one for the back end - is amazing. I also use it at home for things I do when I relax, such as watching someone stream on one monitor and full-screen chat or Discord on another.

I'd take the 14" Dual Screen 100%
14" is perfect for carrying around and fits into my and nearly all good backpacks, usually they are a bit small for productive stuff but being able to drop timelines, toolbars, instrument racks, Stackoverflow or whatever on the second screen and dedicate the (really good) primary one to the actual subject of your work and not the tools is really nice. Although I'd be a bit worried about burn in long time, so it would be great if they offered an on board solution for that, as this could be a usecase for many people.
Also 2880x1800@120Hz is way more useful than 4k@60Hz, at least for me at normal viewing angles that's just a waste of pixels at that display size.
The dual screen is probobly the way forward in the future. Everyone have dual screen desktop.. hardly cant work wirhout them...

I reviewed the 15 inch zenbook duo recently, but I'm actually much more interested in that 14 inch version.... Packs a punch and is much lighter with dual 120hz screens, glad to see asus innovating!

Bit of a weird thing to geek out over, but I've been a left hand keyboard, right hand mouse AutoCAD user for about 20 odd years, and the thought of a laptop with an offset keyboard down the front and a right hand trackpad makes me unnaturally happy. I think I need this!

it's 4k after all. Not many laptop screens with 120Hz 4k out there yet.
It does have 3K 120Hz OLED HDR option, as well as 4K 60Hz OLED. All the new Asus laptops have 120Hz OLED, at all sizes from 14-16".
honestly, the angle of the keyboard kills the 16" for me. I really like the idea that the keyboard pops up, and allows more air to get to the fans, but that angle is just too steep. I feel if they decreased the angle by quite a lot, but it still allowed air, it would be perfect. But as it stands, just for usability, i'd have to choose the 14". And duel screens is amazing. I'll never go back to a single screen on my desktop. Having a duel display on a laptop sounds amazing. Can play games and chat at the same time, or play a game and have a guide for the game on the 2nd screen.

Finally, another laptop with dual-screen! I wish more laptops had multiple screens. *Especially cheap laptops!* (At $250-$300, too.) The space opened by the second screen could be used for better cooling, honestly. I wish we would see AMD-only versions of this laptop, with the CPU being an APU and having a dedicated graphics card, too. It would be awesome! Also, adding sliders and slider-based-joysticks (to be as low-profile as possible) would be great! And 15" laptops would definitely have room for such joysticks with a reset (re-center, re-zero) pinhole against joystick-drift and slider-drift (and for after replacing the springs), pinhole like the one smartphones use to eject the sim tray. And the smaller laptop could use two sliders instead of the joystick would mean you have to sacrifice a lot less space from the keyboard, but you need to use two fingers to control it in joystick mode. And a button which to get both the sliders and the joystick to work as (1) a mouse with acceleration, (2) mouse without acceleartion, (3) two independent sliders, (4) scroll wheel with side-scroll or scroll ball, (5) wheel like the one the 16" laptop in the video has.
I love how he notices “OLED issues” on the lower display which i’m 90% sure is IPS. I’m guessing the grain is just coming from being matte. Just kinda shows how hard it is to actually notice and diagnose some of these minor things on first look
Dual screens would be awesome for content creation while on the road. Especially if you can have your timeline down on the second screen and preview it on the larger screen that would be *chef's kiss*
I bought the VivoBook Pro 16X and couldn't be happier. Although there isn't much news on it. I took a chance and bought it on it's stats alone (after returning a ZenBook Pro 15 that I wasn't "feeling"). It has similar specs to both of those laptops you showed and cheaper with only a few concessions.
Like I wanted a touchscreen and Thunderbolt with displayport passthrough, but they didn't offer it on the Ryzen 9 5900HX. I did come with 32GB of ram, a 3050Ti, 16:10 Pantone validated 4k OLED screen, a 1tb M.2 NVME SSD, and a digital version of the "nubbins" selector on the track pad. Oh and an Asus backpack and mouse. Did I mention it was cheaper too?

Zenbook 16 for desktop replacement for my wife's desktop replacement. Photo and video editing are her favorite pass time. Dual 4K screens are a winner!
I'll take the 14 inch Duo (UX8402) for sure. The smaller form factor, OLED primary display, and an RTX 30xx GPU is my ideal combination.
I just cancelled an order for a UX582 (15.6 inch current gen), and will wait for the release of the UX8402 instead.

I can see myself using this at the office or at home when I want a second screen. The thing for me is that I have a dual screen setup with a separate monitor at home and at my office. My second screen is 27 inches. So I don't know where this might fit in with me personally. I would probably use it in normal laptop mode on a plane or in a coffee shop. This is why I love my Zenbook Duo with an extra half screen. It's always in regular laptop mode and yet I always have a second screen. But for content creators, I can see this being awesome.

from what I saw in a previous version this is more intended for music production because of the ease of use. It seems like with this one is now starting to be forwarded to photo and possibly video now
11:06 actually if you're a photographer you're probably using CF Express, SD is more a casual people with cameras thing, or drones with SD /MicroSD.
All my cameras are either XQD of CFEx which even though are the same form factor/connector, require 2 different (and expensive) card readers. It would be amazing if any computers came with a backwards compatible CFEx slot

The 16 for sure, a 2nd monitor can be easily had if you need more screen real estate.
I hope that hinge is a pre-production quirk. My Zenbook Pro Duo can be opened with one finger and after having an older XPS 15, I love and appreciate not having to use two hands to open up my laptop. I do have the Pro Duo without the lifting display though, as my bottom screen if fixed in place and lifts up from the screen propping up the bottom part of the laptop.
This is a really cool laptop though. I mostly use mine for college, but I also do 3d modeling, CAD, and Unity work on my laptop. My real complaints have to do with the software more than the hardware.
I use an Envy X360 13" because docked in tent mode I can position it between my main screen and my keyboard and have a drawing tablet. It's also better for it's thermals. I would probably go with the 14, but probably neither, the battery life must be horrible on them with the OLEDs and frankly these "cabrio" notebooks make me anxious how dirt and fluff can get in effortlessly inside the chassis.
IMO, something better for the cursor input would be a pointing stick (which I had to Google to find out the universal name because I just call it a TrackPoint)

I wouldn't want either, but if I had to choose, I'd say the Duo. Doing homework/taking notes would be easy, since you can have the material on the top screen and use the stylus on the bottom screen (for equations, diagrams, etc). If you need to type something in manually, the keyboard is literally right there, so that's a plus. I think it would be awkward to write with though, so a tablet + BT keyboard would probably be a better option for that.
Since the OG review on the Pro duo I've always been a fan of the series of laptops and I managed to acquire an older model last year (well if you consider from 2019 older) for a decent price on Ebay. I have seen the new 14 inch model out as a sample laptop in stores and I found the keyboard on the 14 inch a bit too small for my liking, It's also missing some of the cool features of the OG, like the light up numpad, that you can toggle to transform the trackpad into a numpad. Been daily driving the UX581 for about half a year now and I love it. It's great to do video editing and coding on and the touchscreen has been a bigger quality of life improvement than I had thought before (I came from a used w520). The pen works great for taking notes, so a big plus on that one.
Edit: I just wish it had a bigger Linux community so maybe someone could decompile and reverse engineer the windows drivers and get the light bar at the bottom of the laptop working on arch
Weird, the ZenBook Duo 17" that I had bought 2 years ago came with an attachable wrist rest, I wonder why they stopped including it? I think it was really comfy, but also because the 17" was a bit more chonky so your hands would feel the edge a bit more.

I have a Zephyrus duo 15 SE and I love having the secondary display for taking notes with a pen or having discord on it
I think the graininess is not due to the digitizer, rather the subpixle layout.
We have the regular duo at our tech store and apparently the previous version had oled on both screens. dont know why they changed the bottom screen back to ips but definitely dislike the grainy film look even with teh hi res. i would choose a double screen version of the 16x. Bigger battery and duo layout would benefit a solid keyboard while still portable (but maybe i7 version to bring the price down not battery life?).

Right angle USB adapters are great for mice plugged into side ports to get the cord out of the way. I just leave the adapter on the mouse all the time.
I have the 14 and I love everything about it. The duo screen is great for my architect work having many windows open with my UA-cam running at the same time, but it did give me carpal tunnel cause the keypad to tight
That's some crazy screen wobble... literally didn't stop wobbling the entire time it was up.
i’ve been daily driving a zen book pro duo since 2020. the battery life sux, it’s heavy, the power cord is clunky, but the screens are fucking awesome. i use the trackpad with my right thumb, it actually feels amazing when it’s on your lap
And no video edit show case ? man that thing is perfect for that. all the shortcuts on touchpad and the dial plus timeline on second screen damn

I'm looking at buying the Zenbook 14 i love the small form factor and the dual screens. I'm a triple monitor user and laptops have been lacking in that one feature *ease of use for multi monitor setups* now i can be as productive with half the weight.
just love the idea of the keyboard being lower than the usual laptops
Personally I'd go with the 14 (I'm not a professional). Reason being is if I'm playing an older light game (ones where I don't necessarily need to here what's going on such as racing games), doing some random research, putting in job applications, etc. I could have the main screen for that and the secondary screen for music or UA-cam videos for ambient sound and to be able to control YT/Music without having to either change tabs or screens all together then that would be awesome. and another good use I could get out of it is playing some small light games and having discord on the bottom screen to read messages or switching between discord channels/servers when a friend wants to talk to me.
As a CG artist in the XR space, dual screens and the drawing pen definitely take the win.

The 14 inch one looks tempting to me, partly because I can use the smaller screen as a "scratch pad" or "reference display" while I do my main work on the larger main display. ...though I would actually rather the display types be swapped, so that the OLED is on bottom and the main display is IPS in some ways. I actually wonder if you can completely black out the lower display while you're not using it as well.
I also hate where the track pad is on most laptops, as I keep hitting it accidentally as I type it. Some even are so sensitive that they chatter in normal use, causing all sorts of false clicks when not intended. The 14 inch display looks more usable, though potentially less comfortable when used as its namesake--on the lap. I do like mine being an all in one, though.
Been using the ROG Zephyrus Duo for a year now, love it A LOT.
I have the Zephyrus Duo 14 with the 3080 and 5900 and it's been a game changer for working while on the go and gaming. Windows 11 drastically killed my battery life on it, though, compared to how it was on windows 10 so I have to do some digging into why that is still.

I think it's funny that Alex said it's a great background to show off the screens - my first thought was, "why didn't they make the background look like one seamless photo across the two screens?"
