Must admit this hit home. I am at a high level but I have never done any of the raids and other events because I am intimidated by the need to fly frequently. I just can't get this right. Tried Presage and died over 40 times on one try. Gave up. My experience has been almost exclusively by myself. Living in Australia makes time zones a major impediment. I may garner the get up and go to try again but . . .
Why don't Bungie address this problem and make it so that solo players have the opportunity to get gear and weapons that can compete with the team players seeing that the solo players are there true bread and butter
@@coreyharris536 world loot and exotics u can redeem at the kiosk is more than enough to have a meta competitive build. There are no excuses for getting in a team without the appropriate gear(and appropriate for anything that isn't a GM or a master raid just means u only have to have the correct weapon archetype/element and mods, nobody really care if u don't have the godroll who give u like 10% dmg more or stuff like this)
This game genuinely is so lonely and hard when you don’t have friends to play with that are as patient or committed as you. I’ve never even been able to finish a single raid since destiny 1
I have always been a solo player in Destiny. Every now and then, one of the four friends I have that continuously play the game will join me, but most of the time I'm hopping into a game by myself and a few randoms.
@itsDistinctly I'm thankful you pointed this out. And irked that Bungie still moves essential parts of the game onto websites and apps. D1 launched with all their lore on a website.
I feel this pain. I have felt it since D1. Imagine actually being in a clan but in order to get help, be taught raids or dungeons you have to show up when they're streaming only. Which of course is sometimes difficult because of my work schedule. It kinda sucks. Being an old fella (52), it's makes even more difficult. No one wants to teach an old man how to play a video game. But I keep playing because I love the game. I suck at it, but I love it. Lol!
@@warriorgoat5939 I know right!! Atari was great! This and Grand Turismo are the only 2 games I play on Playstation. Xbox is destiny and halo. I gave my gamer tag in the other comment if you want team up sometime.
I hear ya! I’ve been playing since D1. I will be 70 this year. I love this game more than any other game I have played. I can’t even begin to guess how many hours I have put into Destiny. Many days I play around 10 hours. Never get to do a raid. Too uncomfortable with LFG. I would rather play with people I know. I get great enjoyment helping out the blueberries but it would be nice to be able to do dungeons and raids.
@@snicketypicket I'm the same way. I started D1 late but been here for D2 since the beginning. I've done VOG once, D1 and D2. Last wish once. Never finished GOS. I'd love to be able to learn them more. I left my gamer tag in another comment on here if you'd like to team up sometime.
To any solo players, I would absolutely recommend trying to solo Dungeons. They’re intended to be beaten solo! Usually, you get some cool emblems for doing so, along with the loot.
@@gottagetshwifty6348 Personally? I would say it's *easily* Grasp of Avarice. Next, it's Shattered Throne, then either Pit of Heresy or Prophecy (The Chamber of Suffering in Pit of Heresy makes it this hard, alone). I haven't done Duality solo yet, but it seems to be the hardest of the bunch.
@@Ibelieveincharmeleonsupremacy Nope, you can just launch with nobody in your fireteam and you'll go in solo, just like a raid, a story mission, and such.
As a lone wolf I've embraced most of my time adventuring solely, taking in the experiences of D2 at my own pace. That said, the time I spent with my old fireteam back in D1 is unforgettable, and I believe that is how Destiny should be played at its core. Hopefully I'll come across the right group of guardians during Witch Queen.
I’ll take you through some thing my clan is really kind we are just finishing the new raid but we can take you through a lot of things such as some of the raids and trails. My bingo is packjearson
If your on Xbox try joining the destiny 2 LFG group I think it’s called I’m not 100% because I have been on pc for a few years but I used to find chill people to raid with and there are players trying to teach raids on thier even
Man, this hurts. I see how all of you feel. I still pick up "tower randos" for nightfalls and raids. I check stats so I get solo players and give them an experience and "their monies worth" out of the game. In D1 I did a lot of Sherpa raids. More than 60% of my raids and such were with "never raiders". D2 people got shunned away more be it on lfg or social media sites for the same reasons as mentioned. I still Sherpa and would help all of you, in a heartbeat.
Had a similar experience, roommate got me into his Destiny 1 group around the dark below release. We did all the endgame content in D1, was a good run, people had differences and we moved on from that group. My roommate was more out going than me, as I was terrified of LFG stuff, and would got me into his raid groups and eventually a new clan. If it wasn't for him, I don't think I'd even be playing Destiny 2, and probably wouldnt have bought the expansions in Destiny 1. Now that we've both moved out, and onto other things in life I think back to those D1 and early D2 days where we would be grinding out endgame content and secrets. He still plays D2 and is quite active, but has since found his own group of hardcore players to do content with and I've sort of fallen away from the game. Other than coming in a few times during a season to hit power and do recent quests, and occasionally still invited for a raid if they need a 6th... Even if I get dragged through them lol
I miss my old raid team, it’s been a struggle trying to find people who are willing to stick around for any activity. Life happens I know, but I miss the good old days where we would run nightfalls or do our own challenge run for a raid.
Find a good clan and you'll never have that issue. The clan I've been in has a core group of 5-7 players that have been active for years and another 10 or so that are active off and on depending on the season. Even when people are playing other games they usually join the party chat and are willing to hop on and help out with something if needed. Recognize that as a newcomer you may be not be picked first for every activity but the longer you hang out and get to know people the better it gets.
@@yoursteak5215 I’m on PS4, I am the host of my clan with some close friends, but I’m more than happy to meet some new people and possibly form a new raid team if you’ll have me.
When my two friends and I were farming the Leviathan raid we always looked for new players because "experienced" players were too toxic and wanted perfection, we prefered to teach new players than bare the experienced ones
That’s honestly fair, but people are usually pretty clear about stuff like that. If you join a post where they expect you to kwtd or have a clear requirement, you can expect them to remove someone if they’re throwing.
i don’t know what’s with destiny players but almost all experienced players i’ve met (i’m talking destiny 1 vets) are bottom the the barrel toxic players
@@TescoFR Generally D1 vets are okay and understanding of newer players. I find it's less experienced players with big egos who have 2 or 3 raid clears and think they are experts are the issue. I am a D1 vet with over 700 raid clears and hold all raid titles. My group sherpa regularly and we are chilled. I have however, joined lfgs to be told the strategies I've used for 100s of raids are wrong and I don't know what I'm talking about by people who have 2 or 3 clears!
Reminds me of my old group. Now I’m all that’s left because they all got bored of destiny and haven’t played the game in ages. Since Destiny came out I’ve always had a group of friends to play with up until witch queen. I’ve experienced what it’s like to be a solo player for the past couple of months and it’s dreadful.
The quote that speaks to me about being a solo destiny 2 player Hawthorne: Insecure men tend to surround themselves with others like them. Ghost: Cayde? Anything to add? Cayde-6: Nope, she’s totally right. Which is why I work alone. My new motto of life
I didn't try raids yet but I was positively surprised how easy you can find players via the App. Especially when you write that you need someone to help you through a dungeon! Everyone was very supportive!
dont be fooled by the lfg is toxic bandwagon. I was terrified untill i joined one and it was awesome, then i did another and another. I am between 250 to 300 raids and not come across a toxic player. Some go better than others but we get the job done.
the problem for me as a solo player is not being able to do raids and master/gm nightfalls, im paying for that content but will never be able to play it, everyone constantly says "just go to lfg and find a group to play with" and while yeah it is basically the only thing im able to do its not like its that simple or even practical. you are constantly dependent on your entire team fully knowing what to do and then join their discord and pray everyone has a mic and that they won't kick you out or leave.. its just a terrible experience and while i don't really have a solution myself im sure others do and bungie SHOULD listen to them and not just raids but every part of this game bungie should listen to people's ideas to fix the major problems this game has. i fully agree that the best gear and weapons should be locked behind the most difficult content but not making half of the playerbase unable to obtain them just because they don't have people to with.
@@loko8706 the hassle is finding people who won't kick you if you don't kwtd even if you've done your research. Sherpas help but usually it has the same problems as lfg. I'm lucky enough to have friends that play with me though. Edit: Grammar
I've been playing destiny since the beta and almost all of my time has been solo. Any time I tried to join a clan it's usually a bunch of elitists. But the game is kinda peaceful when you navigate thought the entire universe by yourself
I remember back in D1 I started helping people do wrath of the machine since I’d gotten so used to doing it almost everyday for fun. I ended up stumbling on an lfg team that were really inexperienced in end game activities, we got nearing the end of the raid but we just couldn’t defeat Aksis. Now keep in mind that I was one of two who were teaching four others on how to do the raid. It was nearing one in the morning and I was tired and didn’t feel like playing anymore, I told the team that I’d add them and we’d continue tomorrow afternoon. All of the new players sounded so defeated and one of them was a kid and I could hear in his voice how sad he was because he couldn’t complete it. This was one of the main reasons why I added them so that we could finish it later because it reminded me that I was once in his position and that no one would let me play with them because I didn’t know what to do. I was always that solo player that what just keep coming back even though I could never to any end game activities, so when we finally finished the raid the next day it brought me so much joy hearing all of them after completing their first raid.
The proudest achievement of mine is helping people through leviathan. I found my destiny teammates through doing this. I’d done Levi probably a dozen times before trying to take people through it, I wanted to help, to teach people. On my first raid run through teaching it took me and my team 6 hours to teach 2 players (2 of my team didn’t know what to do either) and it was the most fun I’d had playing during that season. I got the Levi dog challenge emblem and haven’t taken it off since because it reminds me of the summer of 2020. I ended up helping 29 players complete the leviathan raid for the first time, and whilst it’s relatively small, I know that I helped free to play players, players with no mic, players who didn’t even know what a raid was complete it, and for that I’m proud of. I’ve helped people discover the best side of this game and I hope that I can do this in light fall again.
I was a new light player back in the day, and two guys teatched the leviathan to me and other 3. It was legit one of the funniest experiences i ever had gaming. Peaple like you are the best thing on this community
Played and beat Garden of Salvation for the first time with help from a guy I met LFG. It took us over 7 hours to beat. He patiently explained every encounter and tolerated our “noob” causing team wipes. I can’t explain it, but by the time we finally finished the raid we had become friends.
This is exactly why I do sherpa raids, the satisfaction of the people beating the raids for the first time or getting amazing drops from them is incredible, I take my time explaining all the raid mechanics and when they get them correctly and understand what is actually happening they thank me a lot since now they can redo the raid while knowing what they have to do I sometimes have little time and just join a kwtd raid to clear an activity sometimes not even using comms since I also get lazy so I don't blame anyone for wanting to clear things clean and quick, but I really recommend to the people wanting to do raids to use lfg, just clear to people that you haven't done the activity like he said or maybe try to check sherpa raids some of the people I have played with consistently have come from my sherpa raids
I felt so relieved when I finished watching the video because, I finally found someone who understands how the solo player feels. Sometimes I felt so ignored because people say that I'm not trying at all to play with others, but for someone who has severe social anxiety and language barrier(English is not my native language.), it's not an option. I don't want to complain too much but I hope the game developers and the community can understand a little more that there are many kinds of people playing this game. Thank you for making the video.
The language barrier is understandable, English ain't my main language either but I manned up and honed it whilst playing with my Clan Social anxiety however just sounds like a lame excuse that many people use to cover up being pussies, just get in there and learn, simple as that
There is a really nice destiny discord server called Destiny Sanctuary, it's made for people who suffer with issues like these including even deaf players. I highly recommend it, much better than normal lfg and less toxicity.
I played WOW for 10 + years and raided once. The others were rude and unwilling to teach how to do what needed to be done. So I never did it again. Same with Destiny, and D2. I finally raided for the first time last year because i had found friends who were patient and willing to teach. Most people never find someone like that, and after a while there is not much else to do if you can't do this endgame content.
Glad you found a group Christian! I love this game, and I hope everyone who struggles with finding a group / feeling motivated to eventually get to experience the great endgame content
When destiny 2 came out I was in a weird stage of my life where I was petrified of getting on the mic with people. Like you I was really into D2, following posts online, reddit, yt. But I couldn't complete the leviathan raid at the time, which was a huge deal and a huge bummer. I started playing D2 again last week and I'm getting my light level up to start raiding with a mate of mine and some randoms, I have the confidence to jump on disc now and have a laugh ❤️
This is exactly why I sherpa. I've had a number of negative experiences being taught a raid, or trying to find someone to actually teach me. I don't want other people to have to go through that kind of garbage, so I try to teach raids as often as I can. Some people get such inflated egos over their accomplishments in this game. It's one thing to be proud of yourself; it's another thing to be a jerk about it. I love this game, and I want other people to love this game, too. I sherpa because I want the community to be a good one, not just to get some emblem (no offense). I love giving people a reason to love this game.
your mentality is better than anything, for a fact I do the same when i see new lights even, just wanting to try a raid and dont even have a good dps weapon, try to invite as many people to the right clan so they dont go thru the garabage toxicity of some god complex people and get kicked, been thru that i know i wanna help them enjoy and not give up the game, because now imagining you get pinnacle loot from vog and i got kicked just for not having sleeper on. nobody asked me anything done the raid 20 times but just for a single weapon was kicked, thats what got me doing sherpa and teaching new people and always encouraging if we failed at encounter, always continued the raid and never left till the end
I like to play mostly solo actually. The game is beautiful and immersive. And when you play with others you have to keep the up with rhythm and always pushing forward. Which is fun of course, but sometimes it feels really cool to stop and just look and listen to the environment. The scenarios and sound design are really great.
I would have agreed back when i had friends in destiny honestly, because sometimes just not logging discord and playing solo felt so relaxing and immersive, but after years of playing alone it became depressing. The immersion is just not enough to keep the game fun for me anymore. I usually log in with the new season (or if i discover new changes that i like), play two weeks, get depressed because i miss raiding and laughing with my friends and leave.
5:04 This is so true- I started playing D2 around 2019, and I absolutely enjoyed it. I played until Beyond Light was released for one simple reason, I didn't have anyone to play with. I was mostly solo and doing LFGs, but it's kinda' not that fun to do LFGs since most people are toxic and would immediately boot you for a single mistake. Games are meant to be played for fun, it'd be cooler if I had a group of friends who also play Destiny so we can just chill and joke around while doing activities instead of try harding every time.
I have the same problem as well but the only other thing is that I am pretty much deaf I have a hearing aid so talking with people is hard 😕 and I don't feel like doing a 4 to 6 or more hours activity sometimes
I totally agree with everything you said. I have over 1000 hours in the game with 1 raid clear. A lot of it for me is anxiety. I feel like I can hold my own in the game. But never want to be the one on the team holding everyone back. Therefore i play alone. Its nice to play alone sometimes but wish i had a core group that i could game with as well.
I remember I messed up once and just got bombarded with sweats cussing me out. But when they messed up no one said anything. That was the leviathan raid as well as my last raid.Used to have a dedicated raid group in destiny 1 but I can’t find any people who are chill/ don’t have a group already
This is exactly how I feel. I don’t care how many attempts it takes to get something done because I know We will eventually finish it. but I hate being the reason to hold a team back. If anyone feels this way as well then we should start a regular group and try to help eachother through the game. If anyone is down. Let me know.
@@NGGamer-nb6bu that's how i feel too, and i would totally form a group with you guys, but unfortunately Destiny is region locked, do you know if there's a way to play with people from other regions?
@@ericjungmann6312 I only play this game casually (an hour or two couple days a week), I've done masters without being carried. I'm sorry if you feel like my response isn't associated with your point but this applies for casuals and those who want to pour hours into this game.
I'm a solo player with all solo flawless dungeons even some of the removed . Dungeons are not "endgame" they are mid game at most . End game is raids , gms . Even master dungeons are easy
I have almost never felt lonelier and more isolated in a game than in Destiny 2. I was so excited for its release on PC, but I struggled more and more over time to actually get any friends onboard to play it with me. Strangers in the overworld were antisocial and unresponsive to chat 100% of the time (I have never, literally never, been responded to in chat outside of the Tower, and even in the Tower it's almost impossible), so making friends out in the wilds was virtually impossible, forcing me to rely on the friends I didn't have. I wanted to share the experience, with friends. I didn't want to be alone. LFG was a minefield and I also didn't want to just play with strangers. In 2019, the first time I ever got enough friends together and attempted to do a raid, I was already having a bad day, and as the only person without experience in it I became aggravated by the others dragging me around without explanation and eventually just left out of frustration. All but one of them ended the friendship. In 2020 I made friends with someone I added from the tower and she invited me to her clan, and I thought I would finally have people to do things with. But almost everyone in there were brash diehard endgame players with no interest in playing with me, and when they heard me in server voice chat criticizing design elements of the game, I was banned from the server and my friend blocked me without saying anything. After that I spent the next year playing it alone, less and less, feeling absolutely no joy or fulfillment in the experience, until eventually I stopped playing completely last year. I wish it didn't have to be this way, but I don't intend to go back. I wish Bungie made a bigger effort to promote socializing in the game, and I wish the players were more social. Thank you for reading my sob story, and sorry that you read my sob story. I am heavily depressed. I miss my friends
@@Noodlepunk Crossplay wasn't introduced until years after launch, and after I'd already stopped playing for that matter. No, they were all PC players who couldn't be fucked to press the Enter key and say something for once.
I can’t believe I found this video that resonated with me so much just by searching Destiny 2. I’ve never had a consistent group to play raids with so I’m mostly a solo player, so much so that I commonly run strikes alone if LFG or matchmaking fails. I’m also a PS player and they just got rid of PS Communities which was my main and consistent avenue for D1 LFGs. This was a great video my guy. Easy sub right there. Keep it up.
@@Blue-qt8ms I recently started playing D2 again, actually got into one of Evanf1997's community clans and I can't wait to run raids with them. Before this, I was more of a D1 player, even more, I primarily played solo by choice but even if I wanted to play with a group I couldn't.
I stopped playing the game 5 months ago after 4 years of loving it, because I've always been alone and I felt rlly lonely because of that. So, because none my friends liked it , it's always been a solo experience for me.
I love helping new people but I wish more of them would at least look up a raid guide before expecting sherpas to donate their time to teach them. Still, I wish there were more systems to enable veteran players to help out new lights
The incentive Bungie gave to old players for helping new folks get through Dares was a great template of how awesome a system like that would be for both vets and new lights
Personally, I don't mind if someone hasn't research the raid/dungeon for their first clear. The biggest deal is being willing to learn. Some of my best last wish runs were with teams that had never seen the raid before, but they were willing to actually learn the mechanics.
I get that but idk, researching it all before doing it surely takes some of the magic and fun away from your furst experience. Get that theres better reasons for researching a raid than this but kinda feels like reading a synopsis before watching a movie
@@majestic_717 so true its like whenever i did a new mission or whatever. it felt like i was enjoying it. but when it comes to raids its simply just ruining and pointless, its like im going for a test to just get good grades which may help me or have 0 use in the future lasting 3hrs
Thanks for putting this out.. I’m a day one player and in the beginning was extremely lucky enough to get with a group of great guys so I got to do vault of glass and leviathan but got burnt out due to lack of content at the time but have recently got completely into it once again but find myself alone and desperately wanting that raid experience once again and it’s not very easy to find that great group of patient players to help you get back into it
The biggest thing that bothers me a lot regarding available content for solo players (yes I'm a solo player) is not having matchmaking for dungeons and at least the master nightfalls. I can understand not having it for raids because they do require more coordination, but for the content I mentioned above, they don't require that much.
right? never made sense to me, matchmaking also deactivates if you choose a higher light level option of an activity with matchmaking like nightfall or DoE, makes no sense and makes it so most people will never want to bother with higher level activities
Yeah they have been like this since D1, really annoying. I put off Vox Obscura for a week because I had some trouble doing it solo. Got myself to 1550, found another 1512 guy and we did it in 2 tries. Not even a full 3 men team and the other guy was super under leveled. A lot of content in this game is not hard if they would just enable the darn matchmaking. Just having another guy to revive you instead of starting again from checkpoint's a HUGE boost.
@@zeeboss7553 Yes but if someone leaves or disconnects there's no auto replacement. And people usually don't join under leveled groups etc. And a lot of people don't even know about the app or use discord.
This is the best video I've seen on topics about destiny in a long while, most streamers seem to think everything is easy because it is for them and they have clans to get things done with, I am so glad you have brought up this topic as nobody else has, its very frustrating watching all these streamers saying how good this gun is or that exotic is when you know you can't get it due to having either no friends on destiny or people demanding you have to KWTD or what loadouts you must use, I've been suffering with severe Depression for the last 2 yrs and find it hard to speak to complete strangers off the bat trying to do hard content so I don't even try anymore, I know there's lots of destiny players out there in similar circumstances as mine and its a shame we loose out with this great game, I spent months getting 1 chest every reset day solo in a raid getting spoils because I wanted the anarchy so much and just after I got it bungie nerfed it.....got quite a few exotic quests still not completed because there too hard as a solo player, Anyway thankyou so much for bringing up this I've given it a thunbs up and I will subscribe as you are the 1st streamer I've seen you really cares about the destiny community !
I know there are so many people like this but I've gotta say the impetus really is on you. If you genuinely want a group to do this stuff with you've gotta put yourself out there and find one. I'm not at all a social person but when I came back to the game in shadowkeep I played solo for a month or two and was considering quitting again. Instead I decided to reboot my old clan and build it up from essentially scratch. Now 2 years on I've done both raids and all the dungeons on day one, and have an incredible group of friends id never have met if I hadn't decided to do something about being a solo player. Also as an example one of the people I play with most days joined and didn't do anything with us as a clan for a month or so. One day I encouraged him to come do a raid with us, he was pretty much silent but clearly enjoyed it enough to come back for another one. Now he's on my day one team and grown in confidence so much he's the lifeblood of our clan. Sorry for the rambling post but please if you really want a group this community is incredible and you will find people you vibe with. Its just one of the things that really gets to me as running a clan I've seen plenty of introverted solo players and the ones who put in a little effort finding a clan (It might not be the first one you joining, but you'll know when it's right) will 100% find a group to play with consistently and maybe even make some long term friends, I know I have.
@@lewis4402 reminds me of when I got back into the game solo. I ran around the tower until I found a guy in a decent clan and joined. Ended up raiding with them and getting really close. Then I hopped into raid groups with randoms and learnt through that, I didn't talk much but still learnt every raid and in the end taught some others too
Get out there man, I know it’s hard. I have a pretty bad stutter which makes something like raiding hard but I feel the tension might bring out the best in you, and after you beat the entire thing you’ll have a sigh of relief. It gets easier, but you have to consistently do it, that’s the hard part. Just have a little faith in yourself and realize many don’t care about teaching new people, and if they do, they weren’t worth teaming up with anyway.
I joined in season 15 and was solo for a few months. Sure, I had some friends that played but our time to play rarely overlapped and I wanted to try raiding and dungeons. I was lucky enough to find an awesome clan that prides itself on teaching endgame content to anyone and doesn't tolerate KWTD. It's made Destiny a much better game having a consistent group that I generally play with and would highly recommend searching out a friendly clan if you can.
That's the type of clan I've always pictured finding but I haven't been able to find one. Plus I play at really odd hours and I'm pretty new, so I've basically accepted solo dungeons are going to be my end game

Heya! I was just wondering, were are people from in your clan mainly? I'm asking cause I got a bit curious reading your comment, but I also know that if a clan was all NA for example, it might be hard to find time to play together since I'm from Finland.
I remember when i was a newbie and just got in clan, they let me join the raid(leviathan) then this vet player said at the end of raid "i am getting headache" i felt the guilt and never have i joined another raid after and left the clan
I started out with a team when I was brand new, they pushed me out and since then I got dedicated to getting really good my solo journey helped me improve and I stopped relying on others.
I am autistic, and one of the biggest struggles of my life is asking for help. The act of reaching out to strangers is a big struggle. I'm also a casual gamer and the game has reached a point where wanting to play just for the story is a massive commitment where you have to grind to move on to a next step at times. And then there is the increasing removal of content. The game I originally paid for is gone.
I feel the same. I stopped playing games around 2010 and came back recently. I miss the days where I can just pay for a full game (especially an offline, single-player, story/campaign-driven FPS) and still “have” it are more or less gone. I played Destiny for a couple months then stopped. I found Titanfall 2 right after and absolutely loved it. I just wish that kind of FPS wasn’t so rare nowadays.
I get that too, it’s also anxiety issues for me and I am constantly worrying, low self esteem too, I think “if I f*ck this up, there going to either shout at me or kick me out” basically I think of “what if” scenarios in a bad way, everything for me has to go perfect otherwise after so many tries I start panicking and most likely constantly apologise.
Just wanted to let you know that I think you are brave to post like this. My oldest daughter has autism and I see the struggles up close. I hope you have already found some online guardians who accept you and make you part of their pack. If not, or if you are in need of another one, I would be proud to be there for you. Mind you, I joined this group because I need some teachers myself…
Ill play with you whenever help you out and bring good people around you to add and play with as well its no problem, my sis is autistic but shes much much more severe. Send your Bungie, I play and help randoms all the time
I often play solo due to social anxiety and the possibility of being ridiculed for being new/slipping up, but I recently joined a really relaxed discord server, and despite me saying that I'm new, a few still offered to guide me through some dungeons and raids! I still plan on getting my light level up and sorting out mods before jumping in but it's really reassuring to know there's others happy to help, it's really all about breaking out your comfort zone and looking in the right places! lol sorry for the ramble
i normally play solo as well i got a friend who plays as well but only a few times a week i thought of getting into a clan before but those huge clans are intimidating. i have never been able to finish a raid/dungeon either mostly cause i suck at the puzzles that are in them i just joined a very small clan of 5 members yesterday not entirely sure about the clan im hoping a small clan like that would not be a issue for me.
Timbo, I'm glad you did this video - its one topic that often gets crapped on by the community because there's a million solutions to this that I just think are all still inconvenient. I've been playing the last 8 years and rarely do any non-matchmade activities. I work all day with people, in meetings, in conference and zoom calls. I want to unwind at night - not be held hostage in my living room by a group of people on LFG just to complete a raid. Moreover, the older you get the more weird it feels being in a voice chat with minors - someone else's kid. Nor do i want to spent my precious free time shopping around for 5 other normal people. you hit the nail on the head - its expensive because the best content becomes inaccessible. Other big MMO's realized this years ago and implemented strategies for matchmaking. Bungie could wait till the season is over, raise the power cap but not have the Raid scale up for matchmaking. They could introduce the hard mode with adept gear, and an easy matchmaking mode that has instructions in the UI for mechanics. They could chop the raids into strikes and make playlists. Regardless, they're losing players because of this. And as you know, once you put this game down for too long - its really hard to want to go back. As final example - it took me over a year to get 2 other competent people to beat whisper of the worm. everyone should experience that activity - but the fact is, no matter how much the power level increased, bungie designs power scaling so that its always the same difficulty - that you'll never feel the reward from patience and level increases to be able to solo it with modest difficulty.
This is the same for me. I could never do The Whisper or Zero Hour, i could only beat them to one bug that was on Season of Arrivals that make all enemies as soft as butter. I can also say that this game needs a global chat, for different themes like Clans and sort of, but mostly so you don't depend of other websites in searching for fireteams or especially if you are a console player (i am too), or even update their "guided raids" so they have instructions visible before and in the raid
Yea I hear ya. Im 43 and having some 10 year old get bent outta shape cuz I’m not Esoterrick or Rick Kackis is a little too weird for me. I pay for all this great content but I never experience it cuz I’m old and none of my friends play this game.
@@axe2grind244 I have one other friend who has a console and destiny. But even he got burnt out - and we both ran into the same problem of trying to do the raid. When we did do it, they were trying to sign us up for statics - then would get upset we didn't want to participate every Wednesday at 6:30. I don't think we're the minority on this either. The majority don't care enough about destiny to complain on the forums - they're just left thinking it's their fault they don't have 5 friends to do the raid.
The age thing is the biggest “hang-up” i have with lfg. Sitting in a voice chat with young folk especially around -21 just feels weird as a 37 year old guy.
I recently came back to Destiny after a 2 year break. Fell right back in love with it and have been enjoying the new expansion. The community for the most part is still very much how I remember it, people who think they are superior to all and are too good to help anyone. The only thing I want that I would want help with is getting the Ghorn. Yet a month later I still get kicked or ignored. Going solo can only make it to the Ogre. Back in D1 the community was awesome. I was a solo player and I could do everything. Post on the old Bungie forums "400 titan, looking to join fresh Vog with challenge" and get many invites and the team would be solid. Yet once D2 came around and everything became clan focused...it went downhill. The truth is, almost all activities should have matchmaking with the exception of raids because of the mechanics that are involved so communication is key. I still love this game but yeah, it does kinda stink when you roll solo.
Thanks to all for the thumbs ups and nice comments. happy to say a month later I got into several lobbies and got my fully masterworked Ghorn as well as hooked up with many random groups to accomplish things like the vidmaster seal and the team related stuff for the Splintered seal. There are many wonderful people in this community just as there are a lot of jerks. Swim through the muck enough and you will find what you are looking for. If you are someone that is looking for help, never feel down, never let it get to you. Sooner or later someone will extend a hand you will reach the mountain top.
Yea I just wish they had matchmaking for higher difficulty stuff. Very annoying having to run low level nightfalls all the time, and too much work to get a team for one run.
Honestly, you nailed exactly why I quit D2 after playing from launch to Beyond Light. Just the sea of KWTD posts and the lack of people willing to help someone who had no support structure to fall back on - an empty friends list and no clan. I wasn't expecting to suddenly jump in and get a regular nightfall or raid team. I wasn't looking to grind out for an exotic or a particular shader. I just wanted to get the experience, pick up on the lore, and see something new, rather than running the same content over and over and over again. I played Destiny for Bungie's worldbuilding. But finally I got the message: Bungie wasn't really interested in building content for solo players. Outside of the campaign, they assume everyone has friends or a clan or a community that they can get people to play with, and that was why I would get utterly frustrated with the game to the point of having to walk away. Because they're not wrong about the majority of their player base, it's just that those of us on the outside of their expectations get ignored outside of expansion releases.
I felt this video so much as a destiny solo player. I would love to do raids and end game content like grand masters, trials or dungeons, but I really have a hard time learning mechanics, most likely in raids, even if I have been playing the game for years. People doesnt have the patience to explain again if I didnt understood it the first times, they get angry or tilted until we finish the raid, and thats not the experiences that I want to have in the game. I want to have fun and enjoy doing end game content. Destiny community really need to be more empathic with the people because we dont know how hard can it be for them, nobody is born knowing and we were all the ones who did not know how to do things at some point of our time playing. Lfg is fine sometimes, it helped me for some end game content, but find a group that doesnt have the "kwtd" for end game content is kinda hard sometimes, and if it doesnt say it u can join and risk it to being judged or to have disrespectful things said to you by those who takes the game like to life or death. Being a solo player isnt bad, I enjoy it, but sometimes is very sad honestly.
im kinda of the same as well even if i read a walkthrough of the raids and dungeons i would likely forget a bunch of it i mean i also always mix up unstoppable/overload champions all the time which usually ends with me getting wrecked.
When lfg works out its brilliant, we done garden of salvation for divinity. We had 5 with 1 who previously done it. Used lfg and put only 1 knows what to do and we got an absolute legend with over 600 carries. The most chilled dude who literally told each player exactly what and when to do something. Made it so easy for us.
I felt this in my soul, always been a destiny solo player. I got the chance to run the kings fall raid when that came out but the group ended up bailing half way through because another guy had to leave so I didn’t even get to finish it haha that was my only raid experience in all of destiny. I’ve tried to match with random groups but they all require you to be fully geared and know every inch of the raid or they’ll kick you. It’s unfortunate because I love the game, the lore, the art design, music, everything is just super fun. I just want to find a group of peeps who like me have little raid experience and are down to just throw themselves at the raids and figure it out organically like it’s day one and we’re going for a worlds first lol is that to much to ask haha
Wow I had the exact same experience. Only raid I ever got to do was Wrath of the machine but everyone just left at the final fight after 3 hours of playing. Would love to get a fireteam going and finish that damn raid once and for all.
Hey buddy if your still looking for a clan or a good group of guardians who are always on just hmu man ! We just did 2 vow of the deciple raid runs this morning and helped some people for sherpas
@@LiLQuaLude that sounds interesting, i just got back to playing destiny 2 after gotten burned out after beyond light, but is your group european or american?
I have to agree with the “kwtd” thing. I like to think of myself as a solo player, i have 2 irl friends that play but both of them have that overbearing “god complex” thing. I finds raids generally stressful and don’t do them because of all the randoms and not wanting to mess up for the other people. There have been a few times when I’ve found someone and they’ve been really chill, i had a dude tech me the last section of vog and he was really chill about it and really helped, and one of the people i did goa with when it came out was so nice and patient as we did our first run.
dont get me wrong, i love the raids but wish they were a little more straight forward or at least didnt have such complex systems to figure out. cause even when you have a full team that knows what to do it could still be a big pain
@@arcangel6384 oh boy i know that pain on the atheon part everytime someone got the bubble buff (can't recall the name) they never bother to shout or run away from the team
Thanks T, nice encapsulation of the solo player experience and the struggles of trying to fit into a group of complete strangers in hopes of advancing your skills and achieving greater rewards and experiencing new and more interesting content. Often solo players (perhaps all players) have a time budget. I’m retired, so this isn’t me, but between school, work, and other irl social obligations it’s a tough balance. Nobody has time to deal with trolls, toxicity, or impatient attitudes. In my experience (3 years of daily play) these are all pervasive in the community. Destiny 2 has a diverse community and high ideals but low adherence and limited enforcement. It’s a struggle. For now I’m content to continue as a solo player until that fateful day that I stumble into a group of unicorns who truly love the game and prioritize patience, understanding, and a sincere desire for cooperation and camaraderie over dominance and gamesmanship.
I'll admit it gets really lonely when you're the only one of your friends who actively plays the game while they constantly trash talk it and play other games. Even so, I'm not deterred and will most likely be jumping into the witch queen solo this coming tuesday. Keep on keepin' on my fellow lone wolves.
I really like what they did with the WQ campain, like the scaling difficulty with more players. Allows the campain to be doable solo, without being super easy as a team (like the previous ones). Especially the Legendary campain.
I stopped having friends and started using Discord. Search Destiny in Discord and you will find a massive amount of LFG and it's super easy to copy paste /join usernames. If you can't paste into the Destiny chat with right click, then use the hotkey for paste (Ctrl + V).
Excellent video! It really explained the way I feel about a lot of these group aimed exotics. I still hope to one day get Vex mythoclast, fatebringer, and reckless oracle. But I keep procrastinating thanks to my fear of getting my head bitten off by some nerd who hasn't touched grass since 2017.
Im an introvert who hates large groups, or very talkative people and I started out as a solo player. However, 4 years ago I made a friend in the Tower because we both had anime names and we talked for hours about anime and have been playing every week together since. We talk to each other daily and he’s become one of my best friends and I’m so grateful that we met. Having him to play with have made playing destiny 1000x better! Edit: I love you my titan brother!
To me being a good player is nowhere near as important as being a reasonable person. You can be the best player in the game but if you're toxic and tear people down you're getting kicked after 2 chances lol
I’ve been playing since Destiny 1, occasionally co-oping with my buddy because he’s not a huge fan of the game, and for the first time 2 days ago I actually grouped up with some people and did a raid. Only took 8 years. It was a good group and pretty fun. May do it again within the next 8 years.
Really appreciate this video. As someone who has been in all these situations, going from having a group of nearly 12 people to only one or two friends who play the game currently. I've been on both sides of lfg, making people kwtd and being told kwtd, and teaching people how to raid or being taught myself. This game has one of the best communities I've ever been a part of. It also has one of the worst. I think the main way to help solo players is to help them join a community server or clan and be welcoming. I recently joined one myself just to do raids whenever and it's super liberating. Most of the people are chill, sometimes encounters can take a while but mostly go by pretty smoothly. Most of the good players in these servers (at least the one I'm most active in) are super chill and have done everything so much that one of the only things they can still do is to teach! If anyone is apprehensive about raiding or wants to find a group these servers actually work and help. It's at least better than something like lfg through xbox/playstation.
The integrated lfg works great on xbox, but it does’t give you a community to hang out in, or the visibility being in an active clan gives you. It’s way better than any of the lfg websites at the very least, since you can just post and it automatically creates a party chat and gives you moderation options as the lfg leader, limits it by player count (ie 6 for a raid), invites them directly to the game etc.
I've always gamed solo apart from the occasional time one of my friends hoped on. I learned to love gaming solo, much more relaxing and at my own pace. I honestly prefer it. but sometimes I do wish i had a good gaming group to rely on when my social battery is charged up. I want to tackle end game things but I'm WAY too nervous to hop on LFG and talk to randoms. For some reason speaking on the voice chat has always been daunting to me. I guess it's the bad expirence i've had on mics lol. definitely an introvert :P
I’ve been playing without really a consistent friend group ever since D1’s beta. It’s a little sad, but I’ve only done Crota and VoG. No one has ever taken the patience to help teach me other raids. People were always impatient and would get angry with me because some of the mechanics just didn’t click in my brain. So i just avoided it altogether.
I've had a lot of bad experiences with LFG, I haven't done a raid in over a year now. I can't really say I miss raiding too much, but I do miss just messing about with people, this game is great with friends but it's a slog on your own.
LFG isn’t the only answer. Reddit, discords and clans are great. You just gotta keep trying. Ignore the bad experiences. It takes diligence, but there is plenty of Sherpa posts for raids, especially around the release of a raid. Even more so now with emblems that you can only get through carries.
Same, I’ve played for about 2 years and touched it in 6 months. Might come around for Witchqueen and mess around in pvp but not gonna buy the deluxe bundle
One of my favourite things to do in d2 is looking for newer players and guiding them through raids, dungeons etc. It's normally gonna take way longer but it's super rewarding.
Thank you. In Destiny 1 solo-ed almost all of the game and it wasn't by choice. It was difficult making friends and so many events didn't have matchmaking (Trials of Osiris, Raids, Vault of Glass etc.) It made me feel that I couldn't fully participate in the more important events. Missing out on great gear hurts when you can't even try.
Reading the comments in this chat made me smile. I haven't played destiny in a couple of years but its great to see people in the community helping each other out. I feel the pain since I used to have some friends who raided with me but they ended up leaving me out because one of them didn't like me. Had to use LFG and it wasn't easy at all.
This has been literally my experience. I only got to do Kings Fall raid and nothing else. I have played Destiny since right before the Taken King launched and always play solo. Would love to do the raids, dungeons and all of the exotic activities that require a fireteam, but don’t really want to go through getting kicked out for being a noob at those activities. So on I go still invested in the game for the story elements, but knowing there is so much of the game I will not get to do.
I'm a solo player and a free player on top of that. My destiny is a demo, the only thing I can do is PvP, PvE and PvE/PvP I'm a PvE player which limits the experience even more. I started playing at the end of 2020, luckily I still managed to play in Red War. But besides that I only do Strikes, from the end of 2020 until now I have done Strikes and that's it. If there was a record of consecutive Strikes, this record would be mine, hardly any player would spend more than a year playing only Strikes. 😂😂😂
@@Thenchresleth i recently started playing destiny 2 but i bought the dlcs straight away since i loved playing destiny 1. If u want to we could do some strikes and have some fun since i actually really like strikes alot. I play on a xbox btw
@@irnoman I would love. Destiny has crossplay between different platforms so it shouldn't be a problem to play together. In addition to Strikes if you want, we can also play Gambit or Dares of Eternity, that six-player mode. I think that's all I can play. 😅😅😅
Same, only ever got to do a bit of the Wrath of the machine raid before everyone just up and left after 3 hours of playing. Would do anything to get to do King’s fall.
As a long time solo player of D2 its nice to be recognised as such. I joined a raid shortly after D2 came out I was put off by the abuse I received so now stick to solo quest or Vanguard.I appreciate you going to the trouble of thinking of solo players. I will look in on the discord. Thanks regards
This brings back memories. There was one time I was playing and one of my friends invited me to join their Last wish raid, so I joined and found that they were at the Riven boss. I was excited that my first raid was about to be complete but since I could not understand the mechanics and that I kept dying, the team saw me as a liability and kicked me out, same with one of the dungeons. That’s when I decided that endgame gear was out of my reach. So now my gear is just some stuff from the world or game modes.
I’ve been on and off solo from the beginning of taken king. Raids are hard to do as a new player. It gets easier but I agree that there should be a safer place for people to Learn. A discord for those people would be an excellent idea
Some players in this game also seem to forget that every rpg is like this because a lot of Destiny vets first experience with an rpg is Destiny. There’ll always be new players in rpgs that’ll lose hope because these type of games can be overwhelming to new or even returning players. There’ll always be new players that are looking to complete their first cooperative based activity to take their first step to end game content.
I'm also in the same boat. Friends pretty much beg and constantly ask me when I'm coming back to play but when I do, they never want to do any of the stuff I'd like to do like certain dungeons, raids, etc. So I'm having to play alone 99% of the time.
As someone who has been lfging for 7 years I've been on both side of just wanting a fast clean run and also going out of my way to help people learn the activitie so I very much appreciate this video
I'm pretty much a complete solo player. I really feel this, the god complex from the veterans can be incredible. Thanks so much for the vid and the good vibes.
I can honestly say that this video resonated with me because like what Timbo said, we were all new once. I’ve been playing Destiny since the Alpha on PlayStation and I’ve been hooked ever since! I started out solo and met a Guardian on a random patrol and we became friends to this very day! (he no longer plays the game though) I heard about Vault Of Glass and I decided to try my luck with LFG. I’m so glad I did because I met a few other Guardians that I still play with! We formed a small clan of our own and did all activities together. During the time of House Of Wolves, I don’t know what it was (either the game became stagnant with the repetitiveness) but I wanted more. I became obsessed with all the challenges that Destiny had to offer and it came at the expense of me leaving the clan for another group. (I still regret this decision to this day) The new group was great at first; we were making jokes and having fun with the game but over time, I started to notice one of them became very controlling being passive-aggressive. I didn’t want to be a part of it anymore because it turned me into a person I didn’t like so I left. I became a solo player when D2 started and doing activities through LFG (some good, other times painfully bad). I believe it was the Warmind expansion when one of my friends from the first clan reached out to me about forming a clan of our own again (he was in a different clan at the time). I didn’t want to mess it up this time because, to me, it felt like I got a second chance. So he and I would randomly do LFG’s together recruiting other Guardians who are chill and willing to teach. We’ve since transitioned over to PC and have a group that do activities with. As of right now, it’s a bit quiet because we’re eagerly anticipating for the launch of The Witch Queen but I’m always willing to teach other Guardians on how to do the raids along with others in our group
Yeah im not a destiny 1 player but I started at D2 red war, and i was doing alot of things solo not knowing about raids or anything getting destroyed in cruicble. When i saw how players were better than me thats exactly when i got obsessed to getting the same guns as them, and when i looked where to get them it were raids, finding a clan that accept you was hard but today there alot of clans that do accept you, at first the clan was willing to teach but in the end The game Lead was getting upset more and more as we had a new light everytime we did a fresh any raid, and he would just do it on his timing, made me so damn mad that i said either let me teach or just dont tell new lights to join, Ended up leaving and joining a new clan where they were willing to go thru the 3hr pain of a raid for new lights and i invited everyone i knew so they could get some of raid loot and master nightfall missions and dungeons. Ive been in many lfgs and got kicked for not having good boss dps weapons or never done a raid or if i did it only once, even telling people that i know what i gotta do didnt help. Nowadays whenver i see a new light i always ask him do u need help or if u want a clan you can join mine i always give tips and tricks how to find better ways of becoming a better guardian rather than giving up on the game cuz to be honest i love the game and i dont wanna see new people give up so early on a tough game like this
One of the reasons why I don't play anymore is because all my friends stopped playing and quitting because of the raids and nobody listened and so now when I would hear the destiny ost I would feel sad and think about how good we use to be
I've been obsessed with Vault of Glass lately, and I just recently discovered the Garden of Salvation raid was a thing. Then you realize you can't solo those raids, but you want the loot so badly. Raid loot is the most incessant struggle for soloist like me.
You can also get Last Wish loot solo. There’s a video on it. All you have to do is put a wish into the wishing wall at the very start of the raid to skip to specific encounters and grab their secret chest. Last Wish secret chests give you raid loot even if you’ve never played the raid before.
I vibe with you 100% at 6:51. I am a veteran of the game and have experienced everything D1 & D2 has to offer and I absolutely hate the people in this community who have that "god complex" just because they know the mechanics to a raid or dungeon, or know the best strategy. It is extremely toxic annoying and does not help this community grow getting new players hooked to the game. People who are veterans to this game need to humble themselves and get off their high horse otherwise all were gonna have in the end are sweaty toxic people playing who has the bigger ego.
got kicked so many times cuz of them that at one point i wasnt really ever looking to play the game cuz i couldnt get raid weapons for enjoying cruicble and having fun. It really ruins the fact new players when put the effort of joining thru discord, do their research and find a lfg just to be booted off for never doing a raid or having a weapon for amazing boss dps.
I honestly just wish I had someone to hang with on D2 I quit playing bc of how lonely it is as a solo and being told I couldn’t join clans/ groups was really discouraging I mean I’m not really new to the game but I still got questions idk thanks for the vid I subbed
I know I’m a month late and you said you quit but if play again sometime If you want you can run with me and my small group of friends we pretty much try to do everything in the game
As a new player, (1 Month) the only reason I was able to get into this game was because someone guided me through everything and answered my questions for weeks. He taught me everything from lore (which is greatly missing in minor details inside the game) to mechanics (some even veterans don't know like how to gain power fast w/o cheesing the system). I fell in love with Destiny, however I'm currently feeling the pain of being a solo player atm. I want to do raids/dungeons, but there is no matchmaking. Additionally, I feel like I'm expected to "Learn" the raid/dungeon before doing them which is completely counterintuitive. The entire purpose of a game is to experience a game. Why would you need to learn about a section of a game when the whole point of a game is to experience it first hand WITHOUT spoilers! That would be like saying "In order for you to join this movie club to watch "XYZ" movie you have to know how the movie ends, the plot , and why certain characters do certain things BEFORE you watch the movie". THEN WHY WATCH THE MOVIE? Does that make any sense?? The game raids/dungeons are developed in a catch-22 system. They're trying to get new players to experience raids/dungeons but in order to experience it you need to know it before hand. Additionally you need a group of people that know it. The idea of getting new players involved is great, the high expectations for new players and accessibility is not. How can they solve this so more people stay? It is hard enough to into this game without a tutor. It makes it even harder that you need to learn additional things in order to play content that is considered to be so fundamental to what Destiny 2 is.
Exactly this. A friend got me into Destiny 2 when it released and I've been playing it pretty inconsistently since 2018. To this day the only raid I've ever attempted was when my friend asked if I wanted to be the 6th man in the Leviathan. We played for 2 hours and everyone eventually left because I didn't know what to do. I'm wanting to give raids another go soon, I just wish there was more incentive to teach new players instead of punishing them. Destiny 2's built-in "Help me do this" system has a Seeker and Teacher matchmaker - Seekers being players who want to be taught, and Teachers being players who are willing to show those people what to do. Perhaps they can expand on that idea; add some sort of extra reward available to teachers on completion of the activity.
i personally think learning a raid with a friend group is one of the most fun experiences in Destiny. Of course it depends on what kind of friends you have, but I've had so much fun spending hours figuring game mechanics out with friends
Solo player experience has always been a challenge for me. I still remember being lvl 28 forever in d1. I had my fun playing crucible and back in the day I enjoyed prison of elders too
I’m an on and off solo player and practically all of this is true. I was afraid of learning raids at one point bc everyone was always putting me off on ad clear all the time and what not instead of teaching. Honestly if you made a server I’d definitely join
As a solo player myself, the first raid I ever did was deep stone, and I did vog a few weeks after. It might have been because of my raid group, but dsc was so much easier to understand and way less stressful imo
I solo play. The only thing that irritates me I’d when you get a quest for an item, then find out the last step is requires a group to do. That’s a quest I just wasted a bunch of time on for nothing. I wish it would at least point it out at the beginning that it will take a group to finish so I can pass on it from the start. I’m not complaining that they exist, I think they’re good for the game. I just they let you know upfront that you’ll need a group to finish the quest.
Solo hunter here, I've been going alone my whole life playing Destiny, and honestly, it gets hard a lot, especially in this new campaign. From my point of view, there are a few things that make the solo experience very hard at times. 1. Not having the right weapons/gear (or not being able to use them all). Compared to the co-op experience, there is a much higher chance of someone having the gear you need to do high amounts of damage or to clear out adds easily, while with solo play you need to have your inventory perfectly sorted out and are able to quickly switch to the weapon you need in the current moment and when in a bad situation.. can sometimes be fatal. Along with the fact you need to actually ACQUIRE the items you need in the first place. 2. Getting overwhelmed easily. I've taken notice of how the ai tends to rush at you during the worst of times, when taking cover you just see that knight round the corner and dome you with that explosive blast. With how fast you can take damage as well, you can tend to give enemies many opportunities to hit you with a lucky or guaranteed hit, and sometimes you die before you can even take down a mini-boss due to having to constantly take cover. 3. Respawning Restricted. The bane of my existence at times, there have been situations before where I've gotten stuck dying over and over due to how challenging a respawning restricted area is. Coupled with a few other reasons stacking up that difficulty, it becomes extremely frustrating and time-consuming to get past a single respawning restricted section. (And yes you could just say "get good" or "get with the meta pleb" but who can say that to an area with minimal cover and enemies with explosive weaponry?) (If there are any problems you occur frequently as a solo player, do say so in the replies!)
I can relate to this so much. Ive been playing destiny for years and I’ve hadn’t had friends to play with since then. Only time I’ve ever played with others is when I started using the fireteam setup on the Destiny app to search for players to do a raid with but once it’s over I’m back to solo or searching again.
I’m new to this channel and I really like this guy. I’m a solo player so I pretty much connect with everything he said. I’d love to play with other at some time or another. I feel like even though I buy the expansion I’m missing out on half of the game which can suck sometimes. Anyway he made a lot of relatable points, and I decided to subscribe. Great video!
I had a friend once. He’s the one who got me in to the game, i started playing Destiny 2 since the very beginning, vanilla D2. Only had one friend, he used to carry me on campaigns and stuff until Forsaken expansion came out, i became a solo player, completed everything by myself except Raids, my friend stopped playing with me in Season 5. I knew him irl, he moved out of town, stopped seeing each other. It’s ait tho, because of him i became a hella player. I accidentally became a Dredgen, didnt even notice i completed tasks, did some dungeons all by myself. These are the seasons i was most active - Season 1 - Season 2 - Season 3 - Season 4 - Season 5 - Season 6 (active ish) - Season 8 - Season 10 - Season 13 - Now Came back in late Season 17 Did alot of things alone, even nightfalls back then when you HAD to invite someone else, they didnt give some random like the Strike, now things have changed.
I never really played on line coop before Destiny. I jumped from some of the most toxic lfg groups to finally finding a clan. not just any clan- the clan. we always would schedule times to help each other level up and ran the vault of glass and Croata's end. not only ran them but also purposely bring new players who never raided before. then after a couple years we all fell apart. then one night when I was struggling to do the leviathan raid- a person that we oriented to destiny and taught the mechanics of vault of glass to- sent me an invite and did for me, what I once did for him. It was amazing. I still think about those gents from my first Destiny clan - I hope hey are out there doing well. I love this game and your video on this was well done.
I wish that this game have some options for introverts, the reason I can play this game is because I know someone IRL who played it. The game is fun if you're social person but not that much for a loner.
Man it’s so comforting to hear someone else with such a similar story to me. I had a big group for Vault of Glass and Crota’s End in D1, but I never did Wrath of the Machine, and Leviathan was when my friends all bailed too. I have mostly had the same experience and despite still trying to love this game as a solo player, I agree with pretty much everything said here.
Great video. I have been soloing destiny 2 for a while until I recently joined a D2 discord group where I can now participate in end game content. I consider myself a shy person to a degree but I found that having people that are into the same thing you are in helps so much. I would encourage any solo player who wants to venture out to join a discord/clan ect. It is the most fun you will ever have. Keep up good work.
This video almost perfectly captures how I've been feeling about the game over the last few months. I primarily play solo, with some raid friends here and there I've met along the way through doing LFGs. But this last fall was the only time I've ever had access to a consistent fire team of IRL friends no less, but then they dropped off. So now I'm back to square one, except I know what I'm missing now. I think a big part of the problem is that, for all Bungie's boasting about the community building aspect of Destiny, there isn't really an easy or accessible way to find a clan as a newby. There's no LFG for clans, no one posts about them in general chat line in other MMOs. Even on Reddit, it's pretty dead in the Clan recruitment department.
There are two Destiny 2 LFG groups. The first is the r/destiny2 group which have a lot of clans and total redditors are around 30-50k people. There are large clans out there like PixelPub which is 10-20k total even though their discord looks dead a lot. But the big place is the Destiny 2 LFG discord, which is 150k+ members and is constantly hopping with runs, raids, crucible, voice, and clan recruitment. Once you get there, the number of things going on gets ... overwhelming is the word I will use and you will look back at r/destiny2's "deadness" as vibrant and populated. It's a difference of NYC vs Oklahoma City.
Needed to hear this lmao...Was sittin just staring at the beta guided raid contemplating whether or not to do it😂😂Def got the equiptment/power to do so but still haven't attempted a raid
My favorite thing to do in destiny 1 was to solo nightfalls, back when that was actually possible and Bungie focued on fun over mechanics and money. Now I rarely play D2 simply because I don't want to put the time into making friends and getting crazy good at the game. I want to play, but theres nothing for me to do.
Hello. I have been playing since the release of Destiny 1. I was obsessed with Destiny, and made so many memories, even though I played solo most of the time. I understand that some people view the story of Destiny as lackluster, but it really intrigued me when I was younger. Even now I’m curious to see how the story will continue to move forward. Eventually in D1, I grew the interest to attempt the raids, and resorted to LFG. It wasn’t the best experience. You’d run into people yelling into their mics at players who mess up on a certain segment, and other unpleasant things. Of course, I eventually completed every raid in D1, because I met some pretty chill raid fireteams along the way, out of pure luck. Onward to D2 a couple years later, and I was excited to experience the game’s story and lore once again. I went to see what LFG would be like for people trying to do raids like the Leviathan Raid or Deep Stone, but only ever came across people expecting you to have either cleared the raid beforehand, or know every portion of it. I’m always open to learning, but I’ve experienced being kicked mid-raid so someone more well-versed in what to do could replace me. After that, I’ve kind of just been straying away from raids and stuck to story-related content, holiday content, and other activities you can do solo. I’ve tries getting friends to play D2 with me of course, but they’re hooked to other games or can’t be bothered. It’s pretty tough.
You hit the nail on the head: (1) LFG tool induces anxiety, and (2) "KWTD" and general dickish god complex players ruin any group content, which is a hard stop for most people experiencing the best Destiny has to offer.
So what me and a couple other people have been doing is that we’d go ahead try doing the raid. (Most of the time it’s VOG) We’d assign roles to everyone that way we’d know what to do. If someone starts to argue or say, “Well I can do all of this side without ad clear.” And persists, we kick him. Or like the Atheon. There’s no point in not having anyone alive unless it’s to guarantee that someone to call oracles on first try.
@Ruska some people have lives and can only dedicate an hour or two to a raid, bringing in somebody who doesnt know what they are doing can easily extend the raid past the time that others can afford to spend, then nobody is having fun. if you dont know what to do, watch a youtube tutorial first.
I've been playing since 2017, in 2018 a close friend joined me during Forsaken, and we've been playing together since. We've cleared all the activities besides raid as a two-man fireteam. In 2020 I asked four of my friends to join us for the raid emblem and the 2020 title. I would say my best experience with the game is clearing Nightfalls with full 3-man fireteam (me being the Hunter, friend A being the Titan, friend B being the Warlock), and raiding with five close friends. But life is still going to happen, those four have since quit the game in BeyondLight, left me and the titan friend having to lfg through DSC and VOG. Not complaining though, lfgs might be scary at first, but most of the players are still kind enough to teach others, and I've accepted the fact that the days of a six friend raid night is not coming back.
I remember the first time I completed King's Fall in D1, first time I finished a raid too. I was lucky enough to get in with a team who were experienced and happy to teach me. The feeling of accomplishment when we beat it made for one of my most memorable gaming moments ever.
Same here! Taken King Raid was one of my 1st Raids to finish and I was finally happy to have finished it (to me years to find a group to help me do it no joke) like you said, that was my most memorable things I've done.
Some kind strangers helped me through Wrath of the Machine, they had the patience to teach me (despite me being like 12) and my friend how to get through it and the secrets. The Raid lasted more than 7 hours (though we couldn't finish on the same day due to some people getting tired) and it is still one of my best memories in my time on Xbox.
Yea it’s been rough not having a group through my entire d2 career, especially since i missed all of the currently vaulted raids because i never had a group. (and was unaware of lfgs at the time) and while i’ve been able to make do with lfg lately, farming dungeons and raids with lfgs can work but they have a almost clinical feeling that you talk about perfectly in the kwtd segment you brought up
I’ve been playing destiny since d1 as a solo player, never really played with anyone and just been casually playing it mostly for crucible tbh but lately I’ve been getting a bit interested in playing it a little more seriously and I’ve honestly started to fall in love with the game again, I started playing d2 like a month or so ago after I stopped playing in 2019 and with witch queen out and actually thinking of buying all the dlc for the full content I may actually play it more seriously and find people to play with, cause the number one reason I played alone was cause I had no one to play with and as I’ve gotten older with more freedom and confidence with talking with people I think I might, anyways that’s my rant hope you have a good day.
I feel you man. Been basically solo the whole time in Destiny 2. I haven't played any of the raids or the other contents that you need a fireteam for due to not really knowing anyone. The last raid in played was in Destiny 1, the Taken King. I think it would be cool if they added a matching for everything, but you can also opt out of.
I dont think new is bad, matter of fact one of my friends is downloading, and I see potential in him as he is excited to play and I am gonna teach him everything
Due to demand, here is a link to my new Discord, primarily focused on helping find groups in Destiny 2! It will be a bit of a work-in-progress over the next few weeks, but I hope those interested can find it helpful. discord.gg/eUHVTpBasj

To any solo players, I would absolutely recommend trying to solo Dungeons. They’re intended to be beaten solo! Usually, you get some cool emblems for doing so, along with the loot.

@@gottagetshwifty6348 prophecy

Good story,thanks for sharing
This was sad to read, sorry for your loss, bruv 🤜🤛
I miss my old raid team, it’s been a struggle trying to find people who are willing to stick around for any activity. Life happens I know, but I miss the good old days where we would run nightfalls or do our own challenge run for a raid.
I think I was in your raid lounge.
@@hokozebren perhaps, I was in a group with people in a raid chat but it died off as far as I remember.

Players like you inspire me to go out of my comfort zone and finally go into a raid, you have my respect!
This is exactly why I do sherpa raids, the satisfaction of the people beating the raids for the first time or getting amazing drops from them is incredible, I take my time explaining all the raid mechanics and when they get them correctly and understand what is actually happening they thank me a lot since now they can redo the raid while knowing what they have to do
I sometimes have little time and just join a kwtd raid to clear an activity sometimes not even using comms since I also get lazy so I don't blame anyone for wanting to clear things clean and quick, but I really recommend to the people wanting to do raids to use lfg, just clear to people that you haven't done the activity like he said or maybe try to check sherpa raids some of the people I have played with consistently have come from my sherpa raids

Games are meant to be played for fun, it'd be cooler if I had a group of friends who also play Destiny so we can just chill and joke around while doing activities instead of try harding every time.
For me, I’m a quite person, I don’t talk much so joining random people to do raids and grandmasters is always nerve racking
I have the same problem as well but the only other thing is that I am pretty much deaf I have a hearing aid so talking with people is hard 😕 and I don't feel like doing a 4 to 6 or more hours activity sometimes
well thats going to be a major problem in a raid...you have no choice but to talk and be social with people..
Same, I just feel like a outsider. I know I should be socialising but it's just so awkward.
Damn we struggling bruh 😂

I've done vog 3 times since d1 all of them last month because of this same reason.
Same like I know I’m doing the right thing but if I mess up once I feel like I’m either going to get kicked or yelled at and looked down on
@@Dirtydonjon had this before as well, one of the reasons I stopped using LFG
This is exactly how I feel. I don’t care how many attempts it takes to get something done because I know We will eventually finish it. but I hate being the reason to hold a team back. Solo players have dungeons for “endgame” activities. And I enjoy them. Yeah raids aren’t nice as a solo player. But Esoterickk taught me a lot.

I miss my friends
lmao you got banned
I have pretty much the same problem except i have 1 friend i play with not really anyone else and yeah lfg's are definetly minefields

Absolutely. It’s a topic that people don’t talk about.
A Sherpa can’t teach someone who won’t listen or doesn’t want to be taught.
I’m a day one player and in the beginning was extremely lucky enough to get with a group of great guys so I got to do vault of glass and leviathan but got burnt out due to lack of content at the time but have recently got completely into it once again but find myself alone and desperately wanting that raid experience once again and it’s not very easy to find that great group of patient players to help you get back into it
Im also a solo player and i am trying to get into raids as well or just have people to grind with. Maybe we can team up if you are down.
I’m also a solo player, we can be friends if u want
If you just put out an lfg and say “no mic” it’s basically the same thing as matchmaking.
@@zeeboss7553 Yes but if someone leaves or disconnects there's no auto replacement. And people usually don't join under leveled groups etc. And a lot of people don't even know about the app or use discord.
I agree coming from someone who cant play with a mic however there is a good d2 lfg server and u cannot have a mic required it's called d2 sanctuary
It’s nice to see that someone is talking about the solo player experience. Thanks man.
This is the best video I've seen on topics about destiny in a long while, most streamers seem to think everything is easy because it is for them and they have clans to get things done with, I am so glad you have brought up this topic as nobody else has, its very frustrating watching all these streamers saying how good this gun is or that exotic is when you know you can't get it due to having either no friends on destiny or people demanding you have to KWTD or what loadouts you must use, I've been suffering with severe Depression for the last 2 yrs and find it hard to speak to complete strangers off the bat trying to do hard content so I don't even try anymore, I know there's lots of destiny players out there in similar circumstances as mine and its a shame we loose out with this great game, I spent months getting 1 chest every reset day solo in a raid getting spoils because I wanted the anarchy so much and just after I got it bungie nerfed it.....got quite a few exotic quests still not completed because there too hard as a solo player,
Anyway thankyou so much for bringing up this I've given it a thunbs up and I will subscribe as you are the 1st streamer I've seen you really cares about the destiny community !
Sorry to hear you're going through that. I am a complete stranger but I'll play with you if you want.

The right people are out there. There are just less of them that's all. Takes a little more time to find them. It's worth it though. (Solo since 2017)
We can be friends if u want
@@axe2grind244 sorry dude, we all understand the pain of time
@@axe2grind244 I have one other friend who has a console and destiny.
Hey man if you haven't gotten that ghorn yet im happy to help you out ive only managed to get it recently myself
I'd also be glad to help
@@carsonhunt4642 agreed. It's really frustrating
Same, i started just youtubing lore
The gos guys are wild lol. There’s a lot on Xbox with like 300+ carries

Some of my best memories in destiny was being taught a new raid, it was always amazing finding and actual good squad of reasonable people
To me being a good player is nowhere near as important as being a reasonable person.

Man I didn't even manage to get Crota or VoG done. Been solo since D1.
I've had a lot of bad experiences with LFG, I haven't done a raid in over a year now. I can't really say I miss raiding too much, but I do miss just messing about with people, this game is great with friends but it's a slog on your own.
I've also had tons of terrible lfg experiences but I've also had a ton of amazing ones. Maybe you should try to do it again.
@@whisperofthebookworm5341 👍👍👍
Same, I’ve played for about 2 years and touched it in 6 months. Might come around for Witchqueen and mess around in pvp but not gonna buy the deluxe bundle
One of my favourite things to do in d2 is looking for newer players and guiding them through raids, dungeons etc. It's normally gonna take way longer but it's super rewarding.
You down to help me?
Thank you. In Destiny 1 solo-ed almost all of the game and it wasn't by choice. It was difficult making friends and so many events didn't have matchmaking (Trials of Osiris, Raids, Vault of Glass etc.)
It made me feel that I couldn't fully participate in the more important events.
Oh man. I wish I could play taken king
(he no longer plays the game though)
I heard about Vault Of Glass and I decided to try my luck with LFG.
(I still regret this decision to this day)
The new group was great at first; we were making jokes and having fun with the game but over time, I started to notice one of them became very controlling being passive-aggressive.
Raid loot is the most incessant struggle for soloist like me.
there are ways to get solo loot 3 time a week
Tbf you can get the first 3 chest from vog with lfg without a mic
And they don’t be really that good, just good with puzzles
got kicked so many times cuz of them that at one point i wasnt really ever looking to play the game cuz i couldnt get raid weapons for enjoying cruicble and having fun.
I’d play with you bro
I’d join you bro
I feel that, solo is lonely sometimes, if you need someone to join up with my Gamertag is ElegantJames
@@ElegantJames I’ll be on tomorrow if your down to play fair warning I’m not very good and I’m 100% sure my gear and stats are trash
It makes it even harder that you need to learn additional things in order to play content that is considered to be so fundamental to what Destiny 2 is.
started the game a month ago and i feel exactly the same way idk if u r still playing but maybe we could hit it off
Exactly this.
If any solo players want to get into raiding then start with VoG all the mechanics are pretty easy and quick to pick up
As a solo player myself, the first raid I ever did was deep stone, and I did vog a few weeks after. It might have been because of my raid group, but dsc was so much easier to understand and way less stressful imo
Also dsc was just so much more fun in general
(And yes you could just say "get good" or "get with the meta pleb" but who can say that to an area with minimal cover and enemies with explosive weaponry?)
(If there are any problems you occur frequently as a solo player, do say so in the replies!)
hey what do you play on im a ps5 player looking for a fireteam
Literally did the legend campaign solo 3x on purpose because it’s easier than having a fire team. And more enjoyable.
Me and a friend are also playing „solo“ rn if you’re down we could team up to at least three for dungeons and GMs this April!

Bunch of legends
I wish that this game have some options for introverts, the reason I can play this game is because I know someone IRL who played it. The game is fun if you're social person but not that much for a loner.
exactly what I feel like
Man it’s so comforting to hear someone else with such a similar story to me.

This, the game requires a surprising time investment to get the most out of it.
For long I have awaited a new video and here it is thank you Timbo!!!!!!
How is asking people to know what there doing a bad thing not everybody wants to have to teach someone through the whole thing.
@Ruska I feel like there are a reasonable amount of people who teach raids so not really
there are hundreds of LFG posts an hour, most of them dont have KWTD and alot of them that do have KWTD will be willing to teach somebody
Guided Games Exists
I dont think new is bad, matter of fact one of my friends is downloading, and I see potential in him as he is excited to play and I am gonna teach him everything
