if i’ll be honest, it always felt kinda weird then taking stuff out then bring it back in, but from what i know right now, when they bring weapons back they change up the perks to fit the new pool of them, when they bring back an activity they change some things from it to fit the sandbox and power of guardians. if you ask me, the 30th anniversary is a great example of this with the weapons, sure the name of the eyasluna is the same, but the perks on it make it almost unrecognizable from what it used to be, the only way to call that recyclable is to literally have not gotten or played with it.
I may be an outlier having never played D1, but I love seeing content from the first game because it's all new to me. From what I can tell they seem to be changing a whole lot of stuff when they port it in to update it to D2 standards. I personally have no problem with if, until they charge me a second time to play leviathan again.
Put yourself in the shoes of someone who’s been playing since beta, feels bad when “new content” that was part of the base game is stuck behind a $40 pay wall….right before a major dlc release. Abusive relationships never start off bad….
It's all been recycled content since Destiny 1. Destiny laid down most of the archetypes of weapons/powers and enemies and has only continued to perfect and evolve everything that's come before. But Destiny had a huge issue where what was going to be D2 was scrapped and reformed into what D2 became. Furthermore, Bungie had some of their best content created by two other developers who parted ways once Bungie left Activision, and I think Bungie's been treading water since. But now that Sony owns Bungie and D2 has a new lead developer, the game looks like it is going to take another huge leap like we got with Forsaken. To be honest, after playing the game(s) for thousands of hours, my biggest gripe is the lack of variation of enemies and enemy vehicles. Destiny and Destiny 2 (Vanilla) had an epic, grand scale that really hasn't been matched. Hopefully with the Witch Queen we'll get some of that back
Yeah, I don't mind the recycled content as long as it has some sort of new flavor to make it feel fresh. I completely agree that enemy variety and vehicles are subpar and I feel a new race is definitely needed within the next couple years. The reskins that we are getting do not count as a new race (ie the hive on the moon or almost every fallen on Europa) with a few "new" variations. I want to be able to deal with a brand new race with new characteristics to make things new.
Yeah not a fan of paying money for the exact same content I’ve already spent money on. Feels really bad having to pay for g-horn when it took me half my D1 playtime to get one…
Recycling ideas is a pretty common practice in lots of media and even outside the media industry. How often do we see automakers make a "retro-styled" vehicle to make bank off of a design that was hugely popular in the past?
Between how easy destiny is now and all the recycled content and mechanics. After 7 years of destiny I finally put it down after day 1 raid of witch queen. Hopefully in the future I can come back for destiny 3 but I doubt it will get that far
Its not bad... if its completely free or reworked in a way that makes it stand out more than it ever would. D1 had some great things that people do want back especially armour. Plus PC or new players don't have to worry about buying D1 to experience the old stuff if it gets added to D2.
Interesting points, thanks for this. I still enjoy destiny 2, I think my only point is that it could do with a graphics upgrade. It looks a bit dated compared to modern titles. But game play is still right up there
Personally I don't mind too much if Bungie brings back old content. But that is only as long as it doesn't come at the cost of new content. Like bringing back old strikes and locations is alright as long as they are recontextualised for where the story is now, like with the Omnigul strike.
I'm slightly fine with it, but for the most part I'm not a big fan of recycled content. I'd honestly prefer new content over pre-existing content with the exception of exotic weapons and armor. For me, seeing the same recycled content makes the game feel slightly emptier(in an intrinsic way) while also making it feel kind of stale as time goes on. It's when brand new content is dropped for the game(Forsaken, Beyond Light, Taken King, ect) where I believe Destiny 2 is closer to it's best.
Yes, recycled content will always be bad for Destiny 2 as long as it is put in front of the newer fresher content. When VoG came back to D2, almost nobody I could find wanted to do the Europa Raid anymore, which in my opinion was one of, if not, my favorite raid bungie ever released. I was burned pretty badly from that experience which eventually drove me out of the game entirely. I think releasing old content is fine as long as it respects your time (whether it be weapons armor or achievements earned) with it and doesn't take away from newer stuff (relevance and opportunity). For example, I would be furious if they re-released a non-sunset variant of recluse because it doesn't respect the time and effort it took to get those weapons legitimately. But bring back old content like past raids (like when they release VoG for FREE) is fine as long as they are less relevant as the raids/story we paid $40 for (by relevance i mean that they don't only give higher power scored loot in one raid over the other, spread the loot out man). Last thing that caught my ears, is that a majority of 'people who complain' about this game do it because we are passionate and want genuine improvements for the game (im not talking about the goobers who complain because they are salty about other bs). We don't want poor implementations of content that we have to play for multiple months just to finish a season pass. We don't want our favorite weapons to be stripped of their worth & power. To eliminate complaining and to silence opposing opinions about content and future changes (can be applied to literally anything i think, not just games) is basically a death sentence to the idea of constant improvement and the striving towards better situations. How can something like Destiny ever get better if ideas are never exchanged and brought forth into the light? So to summarize my entire answer to the video title "Is Recycled Content Bad for the Game?" into one phrase, "its yes, but actually no." (depends heavily on the implementation of said content)
And the thing is, people will say I PAID FOR THIS AND IT HAD RECYCLED CONTENT IN IT, I HATE YOU BUNGIE! when no, little Jimmy, you paid for the entire expansion.
Adding back content is not a problem. Removing it can be though. If adding back things from D1 (e.g. was never in D2) then it's fine IMO. Most D2 players I see nowadays created their bungie account around 2020, maybe 2018. So no chance they played D1.
Bungie reusing their assets is very common in video games. Instead of doing something new, reskin the old stuff, and bring it back in a new DLC saves time and money.

I do TRUELY hope Witch Queen will be as good as forsaken or at the minimum better then Shadowkeep; I can't see myself joining back until I see that level of quality development. Guns I don't really mind, but recycling mechanics, maps, and strikes is what's bad. The maps have been a problem for a long time, and have created their own problems within crucible and gambit. We need more, but a lot of maps were removed or not brought over into d2 initially for a reason. Most D1 maps that have been brought back... suck, mainly cause they were designed for Destiny 1, not Destiny 2. Gambit can kind of be tossed into this too, but I think the tangled shore and dreaming city maps returning would likely not cause any issues in the future. Strikes aren't too bad, but the issue is that it's stuff we've already seen. There's no new innovations, just the same old stuff. Mechanics are what ties into this the most. Override being just a tron-flavored version of Arrival's Contact is probably the most egregious example, with even that being criticised for just being a gambit variant. Recycled mechanics get pushed into other things such as strikes and seasonal content especially, one needs to only look at The Glassway or The Proving Grounds strikes for examples. In particular, the only main mechanic within the glassway is "stand on plate and defend" which has been something we've seen for eons, while The Proving Grounds main mechanic is "Grab ball and bring it to ball holder to continue" which has also been in the game for eons. The game needs more mechanics, and more mechanically difficult content, as that is typically where Destiny's gameplay shines. They should focus on making new mechanics and making unique strikes over recycling ideas and designs we've already seen in other strikes and seasonal activities.

The seasonal content is all areas that were sunset. That means we paid for it twice. Sunsetting was supposedly to help free up space for NEW content and help Bungie debug the game easier. The game is still full of bugs and the seasonal content is worse than the content that was removed. I would rather play the Leviathan raids than this seasonal time gated recycled slog of chores. Seasonal content isn't fresh and it is totally recycled. This video isn't speaking facts.
I’ll admit, I do complain about the game, but only because I love it and I want to see it reach its full potential. I still think it’s a phenomenal game though.
I don't understand the people of D2; they pay for the same content they paid for a few years ago... Sure, D2 is recycled content with minor improvements...LOL
Honesty the state of destiny is disappointing lol like i dont understand why they make us grind for a weapon and then remove abd the renter it again so dumb
why? Do you wanna grind for something again that you earned years ago? Destiny 2 just seems pointless to play id rather start destiny again and have some fun.
Yes recycled content is bad. It's lazy, and a slap in the face to people who have paid a lot of money for this game. Especially when we have had virtually no no maps for years and won't have new ones for at least another year. And gambit is even worse. Bungiee makes more money now then ever and is just as greedy as Activision or EA. Also the stuff they bring back is better than their new content. Bungie is bankrupt of ideas.

@@dascreeb5205 This is not true. I enjoyed it the most. But I agree they could make also Destiny 1 campaign singleplayer game. Then the new player would have a clearer picture of what is the world of Destiny about.
They better bring Nlb back and it better be primary amno like in d1 cause boy was it nice to run nlb side arm or my favorite was nlb and shotty
A NEW TIMBO DESTINY VIDEO YES!
I haven't played destiny since Rise of Iron. I installed D2 but never played it thoroughly ( just the Gary story ). Destiny works for me with friends. Maybe I'll start playing it.
People really overreact, don't worry.
This series has been recycling stuff since before it was even released.
How is that possible...
im fine with it as long as they dont keep using it as the main content and focus. i think recycled content can fix the fomo problem
I like a 70% new 30% returned content. I'd love to have genesis chain back!
I quit playing this game long long time ago because , they keep asking for more money for dlcs and expansions in order to progress further into the game, just so u can play with friends or families.. like seriously? i spent over hundreds of $ back then on dlc and expansions to point i gave up since its nothing but $$.. no disrespect bro but sorry, its just my opinion.
Bring back my icebreaker 😭
This is why Bungie gives away so much free stuff to streamers....free damage control 🤢🤢🤢
What?
Hell yeah a timbo video, my week had been made
I'm ok with recycled content, but charging again and again and again for it? meh, I'm done with destiny, enjoy your loop in time guys.
I’ll admit, I do complain about the game, but only because I love it and I want to see it reach its full potential. I still think it’s a phenomenal game though.
I complain about the game because it needs to just fuckin go away and never come back.
I don't understand the people of D2; they pay for the same content they paid for a few years ago... Sure, D2 is recycled content with minor improvements...LOL
I don’t pay for what’s free.
@@GrzlyBore also, they release the recycled stuff alongside the new stuff.
When its done the way Bungie does it, yeah probably,
I want more of the old content to come through
I miss Dregs promise so much I’m depressed !
Bungie confirmed 30 anniversary not going anyways
Reads title:
Yes
I don't mind I just feel that anything recycled needs to be free
Honesty the state of destiny is disappointing lol like i dont understand why they make us grind for a weapon and then remove abd the renter it again so dumb
Darkside Royalty says worst things and he still plays the game.
That’s because it’s how he makes money. The dude just plays his audience. Manufactured outrage.
i just want some recycles d1 armor sets. Mainly Iron Banner sets.
why? Do you wanna grind for something again that you earned years ago? Destiny 2 just seems pointless to play id rather start destiny again and have some fun.
@@prismaone3164 in a different game!
@@prismaone3164 mainly for looks, the new iron banner set was not the move
NO.
Entirely recycled content is though.
For example, ghally was recycled, but wad included with new content.
This dude high as hell lmao
Ok stop the cap 🧢 sir Timbo
Yes it is
Yes recycled content is bad.
But the thing is, they release the recycled stuff alongside the new stuff.
They aren't pretending the old stuff is new, they are bringing it back.
No
If it’s free or completely reworked, no.
Exactly, and it's often included with the new stuff, so it's just more bang for your buck
Recycled content is better than no content
a original game is better then the sequel
Dilate
Bro you aren’t even a destiny UA-camr who can tell the truth
I’m done I’m unsubscribed
no one cares
@@Hollowtide apparently you care 😂since you had the care to comment you 🤡
