- Swiss watchmaker Longines has been crafting signature watches for over 180 years, so they must be doing something right having been around longer than Rolex, Tudor, Omega, Tissot...the list goes on. In this in-depth review, we put the Longines Spirit Zulu Time to the test - but can it hold up to its heritage?

After 6mths of ownership this watch with its quality and classy look still impresses me every time i put it on and even glance at it. This is my only "luxury" watch so I can't really compare it to others but so far it has performed flawlessly and I'm sure it will serve me well for many years to come. My budget was more than double what this watch costs and originally I had my heart set on buying an Omega but after trying on quite a few different Omega's, Tudor's, Breitling's etc I opted for the Longines Spirit Zulu time, not because of the price & value it offers but more for its quality, looks and feeling on the wrist. It's an impressive watch for which I have received some nice comments when wearing. Buy the watch you desire the most not the "brand" that you think you should👍
Couldn't have said it better! Wise feedback
People have NO idea how beautiful and good this particular watch is. After watching many vids of it I went to a Longines store to see it in person … I was stunned by the amazing finish, quality overall this piece posses, so much so I’m ordering a green dial one tomorrow. You can’t beat this watch for the money. Highly recommended.
The regular Spirit looks incredible in person, too. I think it looks ugly in pictures/video, but in person is a completely different experience.
I just saw the 39mm in a shop without knowing anything about it. It just caught my eye immediately between many. I love it, but can't really afford it 😂😢
This watch is so good that I've been saving up and craving for it over 2 years. Now Longines pulled up titanium version three weeks before I'm ready for the purchase and got me indecisive choosing between green or titanium. They are both gorgeous, I NEED HELP😂.
Would you recommend the green for a more frequently worn piece? Not sure how it fits with daily clothing etc. I love the green in pictures but haven’t been able to see one in person
I just bought this watch, it’s perfect for me. It’s an excellent aviators watch. As an airline pilot, I find the GMT arm very useful. It’s easy to read and the sapphire crystal cover means it won’t scratch up when I’m in the cockpit at work. Nice job Longines!
As an airline pilot as well, I picked one up on a cruise ship - $2850 out the door. Keeps awesome time - only gains about a second a day.
Its good to hear from actual pilots. Im getting this watch because I fly as well, as a passenger.
You know how to tell that someone is a pilot? They’ll tell you.
That being said I too am an airline pilot rocking the black/black 42mm.
@@FoShoYoHoNoMo …guilty as charged! ha…ha…ha
Picking mine up next week - can't wait! Thanks for the great review.
I have it and I love it. Tudor BB Pro too. Both are different watches. The Tudor wears more comfortable because it has a better bracelet. The Longines feels more substantial on my 7.5 inch wrist. Accuracy is the same. The GMT hand is more legible on the Tudor. Really one can’t go wrong with either. I need a GMT watch so I just alternate these. Only time will tell which one is better. Cheers!
I'm struggling with which one of those two to choose. Leaning toward BB pro, its more comfortable on my wrist.
I love both too
I have BB heritage so I am leaning pro. But would be cool to add another brand like Longines to the collection
Very nicely done review. I appreciate the time you put into production quality and video editing. And lots of wrist shots always sit well with me. I do wish that reviewers who include wrist shots also indicated the wrist size shown. So yours is... ?
Thanks! Wrist size is just shy of 8”
Out now in 39mm! This is a true game changer.
Mad respect for your comment.
I looked at them in person, the 39 mm feels very small for my taste, that’s why I’m getting the 41 mm because it fits right on the spot. I don’t have a think wrist but the 41 mm was better … the 39mm looks more of a woman’s watch. Again that’s my personal opinion after trying them.
@@Jcauto-t4rI have a 6.75” wrist and I’m with you, I don’t think it looks like a woman’s watch but the 39 felt too claustrophobic with everything being the within the dial but on a smaller size watch. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder
@@FoShoYoHoNoMo That was the impression I had when I first saw it yesterday. Looks far better in 41. The lugs are a big issue for though. Too long and straight.
Watching this while wearing mine Zulu time in green😍🤗😍🤗😍🤗
My favorite watch in my collection. I have the green bezel version in 39 mm on the bracelet
Gorgeous watch and it looks like your date is displayed centrally in the date window? I'd heard of a few that were slightly misaligned......which would play havoc with my OCD. Nice overview of a watch from a brand that is clearly on a strong roll currently.
I have the one in green and I love it. It's one of my most frequent wearers
I’m getting a green one in 41mm as well.
Longines, pls ditch the big brand etching on the clasp (etch the smaller wingspan logo, instead) and also pls use the quick adjust just like your hydro GMT model for this very nice Zulu. Thanks for the vid, man..
Can’t decide between the Zulu time and hydro conquest gmt , will you make a comparison?
Selling my ZULU TIME green bezel model in 39mm purchased new last february box and papers, 5yr warranty. Very pretty watch but im going for a different color and size. Letting it go for cheap...if anyone interested let me know i can provide my fb listing for it.
Tudor black bay GMT doesn’t have the Tfit clasp and the Zulutimes case and bracelet are stainless steel not titanium. Figured Hiconsumption would have their info correct
You’re correct on both fronts. Zulu Titanium was also on hand, and had us crossing wires. T-fit clasp reference should’ve just been Black Bay Pro (GMT). We’ll do better next time 🫡
I think the screws on the case back are not simply to continue the theme of aviation. I've seen the case back removed, and I'm not sure there's room for threading for a normal screwed on case back. I think this is how they are achieving the relative thinness of this watch.
Correction, not master chonometer rated. Only Omegas and a select tudors are master chronometer certified. The longines is only chronometer certified. The "master" denotes a even more precise level of accuracy that is absent here.
That may be true, but my Longines is more accurate that my Omega master chronometer - just saying.
Service!@@winstonchurchill3597
The black is an absolute banger. I picked one up today. The other colorways are nice, but the black hits hard.
Are you still enjoying using this watch out of interest?
@@finleywhite5900 Yes, but I'd really like the Hodinkee one with the steel bezel. The black is extremely sharp-looking. A more Lamborghini style. My personal style is more pickup truck. The Hodinkee came out after I purchased the black, so I'm considering selling the black to fund the Hodinkee. I have worn the black Zulu every day since purchased.
wow this watch is beautiful

Bought it last year, wear it 3 times: i don't want to damage it !
You must be referring to the titanium version when you say the zulu is only $50 more. The steel versions have a much wider price difference
Your wrist size ?
Is it true the date is not properly aligned in the window? Closer to the left and not in the middle?
Heard that is the case for some of the Zula Times, but not mine. It does take about an hour for the date to fully click it into place though. Mine is dead center once complete.
@@winstonchurchill3597, is the bezel a little wiggly when you press it?
Well now that you mention it, it does flex more than my Ball Watch. Don't really see that as a major concern though.@@luigisawi5629
I got this watch second hand for $1,900. Love it.
Nicer than Tudor
Nice but you seemed to read a description rather than talking about it. 😊. Thanks for sharing anyway.
is it really only $50 more than the spirit?
Will this work for a suit and tie occasion?
No, only at a pajama party or slumber parties. 🤦
This watch is steel, not titanium. Odd that you got that wrong.
Yeah, that’s our bad for sure! 🤦♂️ Had the Spirit Titanium in the studio (and on our minds) as well
Nice presentation but this is no difference than Rolex or other high end costing time pieces. I do own a Pepsi and a few Omegas. But I have found the Seiko GMT to be as good as any over priced units. Whether a “true” or “travelers “ gmt, they both give the same information to us pilots. So ask yourself, does spending a small fortune really worth it in your lifetime? As an old retired physician, I can tell you NO. It’s all hype for watch manufacturers and dealers. No different than clothing designers or stupid expensive tennis shoes. We need to get back to reality.
Wear casio then
@austindavis1045 I happen to be both a pilot from Vietnam flying F-4c/d out of Ubon and a licensed physician. What’s your problem?
@austindavis1045 If you ask any other physician, they will tell you being retired doesn’t mean you lose your license. I also am the HSO for the GA Wing at Dobbins, AFB and fly Search and Rescue as a volunteer Lt Col.
You are right, people spending more than a few hundred on a watch are doing it for reasons that fly in the face of logic.
Yeah but there's something special about mechanical time keeping. That being said I do own a Casio Pathfinder, which is awesome, but it's a not apples to apples comparison.@@mateusbaskoro5677
Watch has quality issue, I purchased watch but I noticed that
hour hand is not precisely pointing to the numbers, specially when moving hour hand independently.
I tried both GMT watches ( zulu & hydroconquest) both having quality issue.
if they used markers on the dial vs numerals I would pick one up without a doubt
is it just me or do the row of stars bug anyone else
Fair bit of inaccuracy in this video.
Yea its steel and he said titanium. Surprising mistake.
Also the lug width is 22, not 20 as stated.
I'd pay an extra $100ish for a version that deletes the goofy five stars on the dial.
39mm ftw
The 39mm is almost perfect
The crown protrudes a bit too much, and a 200m water resistance would have been nice
Advice..slow down and take a deep breath.
Not everyone has unlimited time to view watch reviews. At 2x the video is still clear, organized, and well-presented. Hope they keep the pace in subsequent reviews.
Advice:
Settings>speed>0.75x
I wouldn't consider Longines in the same tier as Tudor ...
