I personally think that Longines is such an unvalued alternative in so many ways and I appreciate your perspective. I was strictly a Tudor fan for the longest time but now I find myself poring over the Longines catalogue.
Tudor lives rent free in Mike's head!!😁 Re: Zulu Time. It is a fantastic watch both for the money _and_ quality. The dial is quite intricate, and it's incredibly well finished overall, especially when viewed under a loupe where the precision of the raised minute track and surrounding details become extremely apparent.
I really want to enjoy a Longines Zulu time. But since I've seen the shaky GMT hand, I can't unsee it. I know it doesn't affect the daily function of the watch, but it just bothers me to the point that I can't purchase the watch with the confidence that I'll enjoy it.
The rational pragmatic analysis that you always put out is a breath of fresh air in a world mostly dominated by awe over branding and apparent quality. Thanks for your videos. Happy to see many choices I also have made in my personal search for good quality and interesting aesthetics.
It's interesting how Tudor went up in Popularity the last few years. I rember buying my first Tudor at a random TJ-Maxx in Germany for 500€ (Sale). It was my first expensive Watch and the one which got me got me interested in luxury Watches in the first place.
Back during the time when I did not know anything about watches, I passed by some Tudor boutique and was immensely attracted to them. Currently owning 2, and I'm not ashamed to say that it is my favorite watch brand. However, I know my budget limitations and currently have more watches than I actually need, so I would rather have a cheaper alternative the next time I try to add something to my collection. Also a proud owner of Oris Diver 65 (thanks for mentioning it). Glad that I was able to buy it for just around $1,100 before analog watches got an insane price increase
I've been pressured over and over by almost everyone to get a Bb58 as my first psuedo luxury but I've persevered and got the Zulu Time Green last week! Partly because of your high praises of it! Thanks! And I'm extremely happy with it!
I got to try on a longines spirit Zulu time recently in titanium. It’s such a beautiful watch in person and I’m definitely going to grab one for my next career milestone.
Time to buy another watch already? How the time flies 😊. I actually recently bought a seamaster 300M over the Tudor for the reasons you listed in the video. Tudors pricing has gotten so "close" to Omega, if you can stretch your budget, it's worth it .
I looked very closely at the new Black Bay 58 GMT. A very nice watch for sure. I went with the Longines Sprit Zulu in green/black. I have really been enjoying this watch. Considering the quality of the Sprit, I would have been happy to pay the same price as the Tudor. The fact that it is ~$1200 less, makes it a huge bargain
Excellent video as always. I am happy that you featured the ML Aikon, an excellent sports integrated watch which is not as popular as the Tissot PRX but it should be. Proud owner of two Tudor watches (Pelagos 42 and BB Pro GMT). Cheers
Recently got into watches and like many, I'm hooked. Just came across your channel the last month or so and I enjoy your point of views and opinions. Love the channel.
Great channel! I have the Sinn 556A and it's a great watch; no complaints at all. Consider the Sinn 104, 105, and U1 (or U50) as affordable Tudor alternatives.
Like you I have this tendency to compare watches from different price points as long as they give me similar vibes. Your propositions are very interesting and transmit those vibes. Now I'm not rich nor poor. I got myself a Rolex Sub last July - I am in very good terms with my AD, because I have a long history with them. This Sub is a very important watch for me since my young adulthood and is my first Rolex ever. I love Tudor as well. I have the Titanium Pelagos 39 and the thick GMT S&G ( rootbeer). As I was blessed with a 7.9 inches wrist I think I can dwell with this beast. I will go for the 41 Monochrome in the near future because it gives me the vibes from old. From the old Tudor Sub of course. I don't own any Omega Seamaster but I positive drool for the No Time To Day as well as for the Aqua Terra Worldtimer. I have a Speedy also. The Reduce from the late 80s. Watch snobs criticize them. I just love it. By the way a small watch isn't (almost always) too small for a large wrist while the contrary is true. I have since 2006 an Hanhart Caliber II with assymetric pushers to the crown and a 7750 (Workhorse) inside. I'm glad you've mentioned Hanhart because I think they knockout many out of the park and are still very affordable. Sinn is another brand I much appreciate while not having none at the present time. There's almost an alternative to everything in life, watches included of course. Once again you were right, Tudor has sometimes some models that for that price and specs one must think for a while before getting a viable alternative. Overall there's the vibe, the passion, and if there is an unsurpassable urge then beyond the specs and within reasonable prices one should get That watch. The one who fills that void. Cheers Mike
Informative video, as always, thank you. I think you nailed it with Sinn and Hanhart options. Both are very good watch brands. I am just leaving Germany now after a nice holiday with the wife and friends. Picked up a Sinn 104 green dial AND a Hanhart Pioneer. Beautiful watches at good price points. My wife, of course, thinks I am losing control, lol.
Hi Mike: Comparing watches in different price ranges that you want to wear for certain occasions is an excellent approach, as long as they fit your budget. My choices have been: - The Ranger was on my list but I already had a Sinn 556i and love it for everyday wear. - The Black Bay Chrono lost against a Sinn 903 ST II HB, which I was lucky enough to get last month. It was actually supposed to be a Hanhart 417 ES. This remains on the list. - My diver of choice is the Sinn U50 DS - even if not everyone likes the scratched dial, I love it. It will remain a watch for rough stuff for a very long time. - As a sports watch, I decided against the BB 36mm and in favor of the Nomos Ahoi 36mm Atlantik. - Dresser: 1965 Vintage IWC, serviced by IWC this year. Priceless. Nevertheless, Tudor is still on my wish list. But at the moment I don't know which model would fit into my collection because I’m poorer but happy. And sorry for the long comment. 😉
Sometimes you want to know what your options are. If I pay more/less what do I gain/lose and is that important to me. It adds context, without which you can’t understand value.
Agree re the Longine Legend. Had a look at a few around its price point and it stood out for the sense of quality and engineering. Looks almost a bit bland online but has more pop and character in hand too. Quiet charm. Very tempted.
100% agree with the recommendations for the Hanhart 417 ES Flyback, both Longines and both Sinn. It's almost like you looked inside my own watch box and know I am wanting the Zulu next. The Sinn U50 S L is the one without the red too, and the lume on that is out of this world.
Thank you so much for another interesting and helpful video which, as always, was delivered in a relaxed conversational style and at a pace we europeans appreciate. If I may highjack the discussion slightly, or rather approach it from a different direction and make a few suggestions for Tudor, which might just increase their sales? 1. Pelagos 39mm incorporating a date as does the larger Pelagos. 2. A 39mm BB 58 GMT, but with a more restrained aesthetic. 3. As per 2 but but in titanium. 4. An update to the 39mm BB Pro in a thinner case similar to that use on the 39mm BB 58 GMT 5. A version of the BB 58 925 which retains the Taupe aesthetic but avoids the tarnishing issue of the current model by using a titanium case. In short, three developments. The inclusion of a date option on the Pelagos 39. The introduction of a 39mm GMT, preferably in titanium, which retains the aesthetic of the current BB Pro, but in a thinner case and finally, an option for the BB 58 925, which avoids the reported tarnishing issue. No doubt purists will decry the suggestion to include a date but as I think most commentators have said, very few of these watches are used for their intended purpose and the convenience of a date complication is very useful. Thank you for indulging my thoughts and by all means comment as you think fit.
I recently purchased the Oris d65. I was thinking of getting the Seiko spb143 but having both in hand the Oris is better in every way. Note: I was considering both at used prices and the d65 smokes the Seiko for value. IMO
Another great comparison. I own a Tudor GMT and BB 41 non-bezel. I love Tudor but also looking at price alternatives. Enjoyed your comparisons and will really consider the options you mentioned. Time to buy another watch for my collection
I really like your style of videos. It feels like a watch podcast type of conversation. Have you considered doing a few episodes on vintage watches and maybe doing a live stream? Anyways keep it up bro
Some great picks, norquain I like and had they been available in a store near me I’d have gone for one. Hanhart - 417 in 39mm is a grail , backstory and romance is everything.
As usual, good and concise video. I enjoy your videos recently almost as a form of meditation. With the Ranger being my absolute favourite for some time, I am kinda sour with the recommendations 😂 But on the other side, I share your fascination with Longines Majetek. I’d throw it on a black Nato and it would be perfect!
A consideration is the MAEN GMT. I just recently had a MAEN Manhattan 39 in the garnet dial delivered and it was worth the 7-month wait. With that, MAEN designs some beautiful watches including the Hudson.
Great comparative vid. Longines and Omegas are definitely perfect alternatives per build and/or aesthetic value. Would love to see a similar vid but in favor of Glaschutte Original, a very underrated and unappreciated house.
Thank you. Love the Tudor vs Omega comparison; we need a long analysis of these two against eachother since one of them will be the next Rolex very soon
I'm squarely out of the luxury watch league,,,(I don't think I would ever seriously consider a Tudor or Rolex) but for some reason if I had to I would gravitate towards the Longines - they have a certain character and for the money exude amazing quality and style. If I ever get into that rarified air, Longines is certainly top of my list. Great video appreciate this take.
I would have tossed out a WISE, Alpina, B&M, Squale and Hamilton as options…. they make great watches. be more adventurous with options overall great video, appreciate your opinion
I have a Tudor 1926 36mm (white dial, brown leather strap) and I love it, there is no way I would trade it for any of the brands you suggest as options. But agree, it is "very safe". Since one of my grails, the 38mm Aquaterra is more expensive that what I feel comfortable expending on a watch, I might pick a baby Aquaterra, AKA the Longines Conquest 38mm with champagne dial. Gives the same vibe for a very reasonable price, they are even family!
Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT --- this does look a bit better than my Timex quartz GMT ($160 discounted), a watch that I do often use in my work. My watch needs the battery replaced every 3 years or so, but it's got a customer-accessible port in the back for changing the battery. My Timex runs about 5 seconds fast per MONTH.
As always honest none promoted advice …. Love the “ your doxa 300t goes to 12000 meters you will be dead but your watch will be fine ! “ hilarious 🤣 By coincidence that’s my next watch the professional 👍🏽
I used to think the Helium escape valve on the 300 was, to quote someone , "a monstrous carbuncle on the face of a much-loved and elegant friend," until I tried it on. Love it now.😁
Slept in. Just grabbing my coffee now. Perfect timing this week, Mike, pun intended. And BTW, re: your comparisons causing meltdowns-from an automotive perspective, my younger self had at one time agonized between a Honda Civic Coupe and an Audi A4 on the B6 platform for a good year and a half before i went for the Four Rings. By almost any metric these don’t seem be comparables, but they were to me, in my wants and needs.
As a Honda owner and an Audi fan, this comparison is insane. Audi makes a great car but all save for the entry level are extremely expensive to repair, due to the lack of working room in the engine bay=lots of labor hours for simple jobs.
Great call out for Norqain - I have a Neverest, killer watch, especially in my version of bronze/green. Also, spot on of Tudor vs Omega... if you can afford to buy up, the 300, or going all in on Omega Planet Ocean, is best. And you helped me justify my current "lust" watch - Longines Zulu. I can't believe how perfect the Zulu is, on so many levels... excuse me, have to go buy it now rather than complete this message.
I just bought the Oris Aquis Date Automatic Stainless Steel Black Dial Diver , my OCD stopped me from purchasing the blue dial (which I do like) because the bezel is black … yes I know , not a big deal , but I thought the black with black bezel just looked the best to my eyes …cheers everyone ! I know not a big dollar watch to most but will be my most expensive watch to date , I hope I like it when it is on the wrist ..got a decent buy on it with the holiday sales going on ..
39mm Spirit Zulu Time.... This would easily be my One and Done watch. If it wasn't for that fragile ceramic bezel. Picture a man developing a very serious interest in watches, educating himself, immersing himself fully into the watch world.... Then about a year later, that silly ceramic bezel craze hit the watch world for the very first time, and never went away! So yes, over a decade ago; easily. Having worked with advanced ceramics, their use as watch bezels is about as appropriate as making car brake-pads out of styrofoam. Ceramics have no give to them. Own a watch for several years, drop it just one time, watch the bezel shatter like glass! Pray that model wasn't discontinued awhile ago. If it was, good luck sourcing a replacement bezel. And, hope you never drop the watch again!
If I knew then what I know now, I probably would not have dropped $3K on my BB58. I would have gotten an Oris Diver’s 65 or a Super Squale. Both have Sellita movements (so servicing costs would be minimal), and domed sapphire crystals (which I prefer). I might have even added a Sinn 556, too.
My alternatives: FXD - Bertucci A2T Pelagos - Citizen Fujitsubo Black Bay '58 GMT - Lorier Hyperion Black Bay red bezel - Wise Adamascus AD8 Black Bay Monochrome - Certina DS Action Diver Black Bay sport - Seiko DressKX Royal - Citizen Zenshin/Forza Alinghi - Tissot Sideral Ranger - also Bertucci A2T
Really enjoying my new Longines HydroConquest GMT in blue. I didn't need the watch, nor the GMT. Is it better than my Citizen Signature Collection beater trio? Pretty sure it is. Thank you, Mike, for the intelligent, technical-ish, vantage points.
Hanhart is a deep ✂️ and I totally agree but just like you the one in one out policy I have to sell my DS Chrono Hertitage. Not sure I can because that dial is amazing.
I agree - I'll choose a watch because it makes me feel something specific, that my other watches don't. Price doesn't factor into the decision when I'm grazing at a baseline of 5k and upwards. Just because something costs more, it doesn't mean it's better. Just like rare doesn't always mean uncompromising. Some enthusiasts need a specific brand, others below or above a certain threshold, whilst others go with their heart, and a fair few seem to think they're good investments. Whichever your motivation, what matters is that you are following your inspired choice, for the reasons you need to justify the costs of ownership. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, as long as you are happy. In my humble opinion, authentic horological enthusiasm is a celebration of choice, storytelling, and legacy.
Actually sometimes taste can be directed in totally different directions. I was drooling over a Tudor Black Bay for a long time. Until someone made me aware of a Doxa 300T. That one looks so different from most divers. Especially with that orange dial. Now I'm drooling over that one.
Ha! I chose the Seiko Willard over a Tudor FXD so get exactly where youre coming from comparing watches from different price ranges…..suits me perfectly for my hiking/ adventure watch
As one with owner experience, the Hanhart 417ES is probably the greatest value proposition in the entire realm of chronographs. As for Sinn, the brand has been owned by Lothar Schmidt for the last 25 years. Mr. Schmidt was chosen by Gunter Blumlein and Walter Lange to serve as the first technical director of the revived A. Lange & Sohne. The horological engineering at Sinn is far beyond what most people would ever expect for watches in the relevant price categories. Sinn does not just drop in third party movements and call it a day. As an extremely happy owner of another Longines Heritage reference, the Majetek would be a fantastic choice for somebody who wants to experience something more unique than a high production volume reference from Tudor. As a super huge Swatch brand globally, Longines has rights to ETA movements modified per Longines specifications which are exclusive to Longines.
Strong agreement on the Longines Zulu
Fab watch 😊😊😊👌
I learned from personal experience that its financially wiser to save longer and get the actual watch one wants and be done with it. With that said, II’ve really enjoyed this video. Love the analysis, as always! Btw loving the lowkey flex with the Yachtmaster. Looks great on your wrist 🔥
Sinn…a watch you never regret..and love your Majetek selection Mike, it’s truly one of the favourites I’n my collection
1935 majatek on wrist as I watch this
I personally think that Longines is such an unvalued alternative in so many ways and I appreciate your perspective. I was strictly a Tudor fan for the longest time but now I find myself poring over the Longines catalogue.
Agree on longines 😊
Longines Spirit Titanium 40mm 👍
Tudor lives rent free in Mike's head!!😁
Re: Zulu Time.
Too thick for my taste. Goes also for the Tudor
Lol. I have a feeling they're going to move out soon and be replaced by someone else 😂

On target sir! I agree and look forward to your next analysis. Thank you for your expertise and enthusiasm. Take care.
San Martin have more Tudors in their catalogue than Tudor do.
San Martin is being mentioned on luxury youtube watch channels more and more these days.
🤣🤣🤣
Lmao
Brilliant
@@edblair1yup, they’re eating their lunch…..
With what I hear about Tudor QC, they may have even better Tudors than Tudor, at least in steel

the days since last watch purchase at the end always cracks me up lol
It's under pressure at the moment.... 😂😂😂
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch lol 🤣
I appreciate the ending thoughts on this one.
Good to hear
As always honest none promoted advice …. Love the “ your doxa 300t goes to 12000 meters you will be dead but your watch will be fine ! “ hilarious 🤣
By coincidence that’s my next watch the professional 👍🏽
Good choice. Great watch 😊😊😊
I used to think the Helium escape valve on the 300 was, to quote someone , "a monstrous carbuncle on the face of a much-loved and elegant friend," until I tried it on. Love it now.😁
Much like carbunckles, they grow on you 😂
Having owned both those autos, I have to say the Honda served me better. Never once needed repair.
As a Honda owner and an Audi fan, this comparison is insane. Audi makes a great car but all save for the entry level are extremely expensive to repair, due to the lack of working room in the engine bay=lots of labor hours for simple jobs.
@@stevens1041 Tell me about it.
As alternative for Tudors 1926 I would suggest the Stowa Marine 36.
A Maurice Lacroix? Excellent, Mike. This brand is too often forgotten. BTW I own a Sinn 556, I confirm it is a brilliant choice at this price point
I greatly appreciate your thought process. I think similarly.
Love your videos mate. Have a great labor day weekend! 🍻
Every time I see that Majitek, boy do I wish I had bigger wrists. That watch hits a spot in my brain that no other does. It is just pure Badass.
Go for it mine is 6.5 and wears fine
@@Ben-iq1pm I tried it yesterday. The lugs barely fit the width :( but thanks for sharing!
I really appreciate your open minded opinion, and this video
Thanks. That's what I aim for 😊
My favorite is San Martin, very many variants.
I really liked this video. There is no best only what you like
Another excellent video Mike. Keep up the great work.
will try 😊
If I knew then what I know now, I probably would not have dropped $3K on my BB58. I would have gotten an Oris Diver’s 65 or a Super Squale. Both have Sellita movements (so servicing costs would be minimal), and domed sapphire crystals (which I prefer). I might have even added a Sinn 556, too.
My alternatives:
FXD - Bertucci A2T
Pelagos - Citizen Fujitsubo
Black Bay '58 GMT - Lorier Hyperion
Black Bay red bezel - Wise Adamascus AD8
Black Bay Monochrome - Certina DS Action Diver
Black Bay sport - Seiko DressKX
Royal - Citizen Zenshin/Forza
Alinghi - Tissot Sideral
Ranger - also Bertucci A2T
I originally really wanted a seamaster but due to my small 6.25” wrist, I ended up getting the black bay 54. Fit like a nice glove.
Alternatives are what make me prevaricate so much when choosing, and the bane of my life.
I love the days since last watch purchase counter. You get me and I get you.
12 step program 😂
How about a video on bracelet types with examples.
Please educate us.
Love your channel!
Thanks for watching 😀😀
You never disappoint
Actually sometimes taste can be directed in totally different directions. I was drooling over a Tudor Black Bay for a long time. Until someone made me aware of a Doxa 300T. That one looks so different from most divers. Especially with that orange dial. Now I'm drooling over that one.
Ha! I chose the Seiko Willard over a Tudor FXD so get exactly where youre coming from comparing watches from different price ranges…..suits me perfectly for my hiking/ adventure watch
I'm loving your content more and more.. Great video!
Happy to hear that 😊😊
I love that Hanhart.....and if it was good enough for Steve McQueen, it's good enough for me!
finally someone who recognises the true value of Longines and Hanhart! I’m just afraid of them doing more price-hikes as well…
As one with owner experience, the Hanhart 417ES is probably the greatest value proposition in the entire realm of chronographs.
I nominate the Longines Conquest Marco Odermatt edition to beat the new Blackbay Chrono Blue. Fantastic looking watch
