- I've been testing out a brand new liquid foundation for the last couple of weeks, and one of things I couldn't stop thinking about was closely it resembled Estée Lauder's Doube Wear to me. So with that in mind, I decided to do a side by side, all day wear test. You will find the results in this video.

Hi Risa. I'm 60 year's young😂 and I have dry skin. However, Estee Lauder Double Wear is 1 of my favorite foundations. I make sure that I night before I'm planning to wear it I exfoliating my skin the night before I'm planningg to wear it, then I prep my skin ver, very well. I use a damp sponge and work in small sections, pressing the foundation really well into my skin. And then I use a light misting of a hydrating setting spray, and let it sit while I finish working on my eyes. This is an incredible foundation, and I will never not have it in my foundation collection ❤❤

Ok, this comparison put this new foundation into context for me. Wasn’t interested even after Tati’s review because it’s another foundation. BUT! Estée Lauder is my go to full coverage foundation. So now I know what I need to know. I’m also super super oily to Risa. With texture. I hear you!

I love that this foundation also has skincare in it. I lived in ED when masks were required as there was no transfer, but I had to make sure I had applied moisturizer liberally before applying. Thanks for this review !😊

I have dry skin and love Estee Lauder Double Wear. I apply mine with a damp sponge and still get all the coverage without it being to thick or cakey. It never drys out my skin. I will definitely try the Smash box to see if it works for me.

My skin tends to be dry and Double Wear was my holy grail foundation until I went cruelty free 3 years ago. It has taken me up to just recently to find a cruelty free option up until recently, when I purchased the Haus Labs Foundation, it is now my holy grail. I am hoping Gwen Stefani’s GXVE comes out with one soon as I love each and every GXVE product I have purchased…💜

The FDA do not cover cruelty free make up, so people can erroneously label their goods as cruelty free but it means nothing. Edit and yes I was surprised too goodness knows why.
I think the shine breakthrough gives you a nice glow, and the makeup performed beautifully.
Love your channel! You may not have the same number of viewers. However, your attention to detail, experience in the industry and thoughtfulness re: different skin types/ tone and overall professionalism leave no doubt in my mind that there's no copying here; and there's plenty of room for different content creators to review the same makeup! What a great review Risa! Double Wear is my favorite foundation. I have dry skin and it works well on me. I do prep well before though. When I saw Tati’s review, I didn’t think of buying it all! Now that you compare it to DW, I may get a sample and test it out.

Been wearing DW for 25 years! As a flight attendant, It maybe just as good, but will never have the name recognition! I'll stick to DW! Love your lip color!
I can't believe it! I never thought I'd see the day! I don't know if the HA or skincare in the Smashbox will really make that much of a difference. I do my skin care and apply my HA prior to applying my foundation. I think I'll stick with my Double Wear for now. Thanks for the video Risa! I hope things cool off soon in Vegas!!

I absolutely hate pumps! They always fail and get clogged!
Normal to dry skin here, but I use it all the time. Sometimes, I mix it with the Lauder Futurist foundation. And, you really don’t need even a full pump!

Wow I have tried every foundation for my super oily skin. ALWAYS go back to double wear. Im impressed as I never see content about it on video.. I will be trying the Smashbox. Thank you for this review and love from the mitten !
So devastated b/c no matter how much Estee Lauder denies it, they 100% changed the formula of the Double Wear stay-in-place foundation. All heavily oily skinned ladies know this for a fact b/c it is not the same anymore. It doesn't dry down as quickly or matte. It does not hold back any oil whatsoever, nor is it transfer proof anymore. Prior to their additional shades launch (also when they changed the formula) that foundation was my holy grail. There was nothing on the market like it! I would wear it 12 hours straight in the summer without a single touch up & my face was still matte at the end of the day. Now Double Wear doesn't last 3 hours before the oils have seeped through and one tiny swipe on the face takes off everything. Such a disservice to who the foundation was primarily targeted for in the first place!

Hi! I have a couple Makeup By Mario reviews on my channel. Sadly his foundation doesn’t work on my very oily skin, and I’m not a fan of the new concealer either. I do like a lot of his other products, but those two I had to return.

I just opened the video and about to watch but nooooo lol nothing is better than double wear ! I have been mixing it with the INKERY list POLYGLUTAMIC ACID Hydrating SERUM for summer and it makes it lighter to wear. I just like how you can mix double wear to make it different with other products and it still works great.

I am 52 with dry skin and I love double wear- just have to make sure skin is hydrated (I use hylaronic acid serum and CeraVe moisturizer with spf,)… it works well for me…. No powder and no concealer

Not sure if you are aware but Smashbox is owned by the Estee Lauder Company. Maybe that’s why they’re so much alike.

I love E L.. I used it in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 in the sumer and there is very hot and humid.. and last on me all day until night and my face was looking good as in the morning... 🎉

Risa is this Smashbox more matte finish?? I can't do the Estee Lauder that everyone loves....it's way too dry on my already dry,mature skin
The finish of both is pretty similar, but the Smashbox has hydrating ingredients so it might feel better on your skin. As I mentioned in the video though, you want to prep really with moisturizer and perhaps even a hydrating primer.
My skin is normal 64 yo. I cannot do DW, it only shows all my wrinkles and deepens then. Terrible 😢

Loved the Smasbox formula but after trying four different shades I could not find a match. All are too yellow.
I stopped watching Tati after her drama a few years ago. She was getting out of touch with her usual viewer and seemed unrelatable . Your channel has never felt this way! Glad I can see someone around my age who is honest about products!
She's VERY pleasant now, I think she's recovered from (the LA life didn't help her let's just say). The TX home they have is lovely, it seems like a good place. I've been watching her and find she's a lot of fun, she is not problematic, and I am so glad to see her having fun with her channel.

Estee Lauder has way more shades. I still like it better.
Estée Lauder now owns Smashbox. I am curious if there was some formula secrets passed off between the two companies? I mean we will never know, but "Double Wear" has been the gold standard for 30 years.
I’m sure there was then or atleast help from their expert chemists and stuff. Because EL to be honest is just not beatable. I leave it to dry down on my pallets sometimes and it will not come off with anything but soaking it with makeup remover
Maybe Estes Lauder learned from its mistake with the launch and fail of the new & “ improved “ Lancôme version. Don’t fix anything that isn’t broken just release a new launch. I’ve used Lancôme and double wear for a long time and had to switch to double wear because none of the new Lancôme shades me and they always look a little off I miss the original. I will try this one . Maybe it’s the companies version of new and improved? 🤷♀️ you will also see similarities with a lot of Lancôme and L’Oréal products. In my opinion Infallible is L’Oréal’s version of the original Teint Idole and now that the original is gone Infallible has better shade match for me as well as double wear. I’ll give this smash box one a try. I don’t like change much though when it comes to foundation. I flirt with others but always would end up returning to Teint Idole 2nd place Double wear 3 rd place L’Oréal infallible and always would keep the infallible around in different shades for summer winter and so I’d always have something. However 80% of the time I’d only wear Lancôme Teint Idole. I’d always buy new foundations for fun and to try but always went back .
Now that it’s gone it’s double wear and infallible ( for fuller coverage) and maybe this new smash box . We will see will be fun to try and hopefully something makes me feel like my Lancôme Teint Idole did 😿

To be honest, the Estée Lauder looked so much better on your face. The smash box looked shiny/oily at all the check ins. The color of the smash box seemed a little yellow to me but that’s just color. It can be fixed. Just my opinion, the Estée Lauder looked so so much better. Great video. Thanks for doing this!

I can mix it with any foundation, especially a sheer or glow, and it does magically beautifully job!! believe me I have tried every single foundation, and Sephora , Macy’s Nordstrom. I got the mashbox after watching Tati's video. My 67 yr old skin is still very oily. I've only worn it once, but I wasn't sure how I felt about it. It seemed a little oily to me when I put it on. I'll try it again and pay more attention how it feels and wears.
@@Ohkeh640 right now I prefer Dior forever skin glow or, for summer, forever natural nude, but I'm not into full coverage these days. If I was, I'd first try dior backstage. Several influencers have said it's wonderful!

I just turned 63 & also have really oily skin. We are a rare breed. I only use oil-free moisturizer & am careful about primers, etc. I don't have the wrinkles some of my classmates have. :)
Risa you look extra gorgeous in your video today. Question: My family and I were recently in a photo shoot. I meticulously did my own make-up that consisted of moisturizer and primer, full coverage foundation, powder, blush, etc., etc. I thought I looked extra made-up and pretty and it gave me confidence for the shoot. However, when we got the pictures back, it barely looks like I have any makeup on!!! What went wrong? Can you do a video on this? Thank you!!!!
I’m a professional photographer. If you did your Photoshoot outside in natural light, you can look washed out. I tell my clients to always wear fake lashes. Wear darker eye makeup and put your blush on darker than usual. Heavier makeup will look better. Just my 2 cents. ❤

That is an excellent idea... photographer's pointersfor photo shoots... we ALL want to look great!
You probably have to think of it like stage makeup and make everything darker, brighter and more intense.
Please never think that we would think you would be copying someone (like Tati) I find it very validating for a product when more people freak out about it! I cannot wait to try this! So thorough, really appreciate it!!!

Double Wear was my very first foundation I was shade matched to, and even with my dry textured skin. I love it!!! I own SO MANY high end and drugstore foundations, and this is one of my two most used and repurchased
I’m 75 combination skin, I had used Estee Lauder double wear for more than 20 years and it works absolutely well, I lived in Miami with tons of humidity and my makeup last all day (no primer or powder). I’m thinking that I will try to get a sample before I buy it. Thanks a lot for your review. I loved your channel ❤
I’m 77 and have used Estée Lauder for nearly 40 years. They have a new one now Futurist Aqua Brilliance with intense Moisture Infusion SPF 20. Lovely bottle looks very expensive and has a pump too. Try it and watch the magic.

I’m 62, and I absolutely love Double Wear. I no longer have oily skin, but it still works for me. I put on NYX Marshmallow Primer, then Elf Halo Glow, then Double Wear. It stays on all day. I am going to give Smash Box a try 👸🥰
I've got my perfect shade mix of double wear, and I've purchased pumps. For these reasons, I'm staying with Estee lauder 😂

I tried to buy this Smashbox foundation but unfortunately, they have a horrible shade range. It’s literally 30 shades of yellow and orange. Their only cool shades are super fair and super deep. Their shade range in store is abysmal and I can’t believe anyone can find a shade match to this - whose skin in this color? It’s so orange or yellow, I can’t see how anyone can find a match. Incredibly disappointing that more brands don’t make cool shades and only put out 50 shades of orange. Needless to say, I won’t be buying this product.
I believe the Smashbox brand is owned by the Estee Lauder Company, so that might be a contributory factor as to why the Smashbox foundation feels similar to Double Wear, so maybe there are some overlaps in the formula and ingredients 💖 I don't know if brands owned by the same corporation do share some core / base formulas, but it's a thought 🤔✨️
Thx, I just looked it up, it appears to be true, since 2010. Since that is the case, I wouldn’t mind getting it a tad cheaper depending on the formula, as u mentioned.
I knew it had been acquired by Estée Lauder. So when I saw this, I thought exactly the same thing…that they shared research and technology, even if not exactly the same formulation
I now remember another YTber saying it was the same co. U may be right, it may be the same. I worked for a co. who sold their same product under diff names.
The Smashbox and the new Mac face pen foundations have both dethroned Double Wear. They look beautiful on my mature combination skin. Neither one of them gets the hype they deserve in my opinion. Meanwhile I’m over here disliking the Hourglass skin tint everyone loves. That stuff does not dry down.

Hello Risa , I’m 42 years old , i discovered Estée Lauder double wear from the makeup artist who did my makeup’s wedding ( 2009 ) !! I’m a high end foundation addict , and i swear by the Estée Lauder DW since then !! Nothing beats the Estée Lauder DW, as you mentioned, with the right skin prep and application it’s the most perfect flawless long lasting skin like foundation on earth 😃😃🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍 … i’ll give the Smashbox a try since you recommend it !! I’m 51, hydrate my skin and Double Wear works great for me! I just don’t use a lot.
I do as well, and I’ve never had any issues with it looking cakey.. I get compliments on my skin, but I do prep very very well with dry skin. I’ve never found a foundation that wears the same. The best thing about it is that I don’t have to touch it up and I don’t ever. I don’t understand anybody who wants to buy something that last for a few hours and then they have to go through and fix it again I just don’t wanna mess with it.

Risa, we have VERY similar skin and are about the same age. Lately I have been using the Elf grip primer (waiting on it to dry) and then putting the Mac primer that you once recommended on top of that. It keeps me almost shine free all day! I also live in a very humid area (middle Ga). Just thought I would share.

Well I'm glad the Smashbox seems to be a good dupe, because in Canada Estee Lauder just increased the price by 20 CAD for this foundation so it now costs a whooping 70 CAD! DW was my holy grail for 15+ years but I refuse to pay this insane price when there are other options just as good at a more decent price point.

😅 I used to think it was such a great country , but after the cost of living increases taxes and freezing citizens bank accounts I’ve taken it off my list. Such a shame it’s a beautiful country with wonderful people. Canadians are great ❤️ just not sure what’s happening there last few years.
@@avablue6062 Nothing good I'm afraid, it used to be so much better, but since 2015 it started going to the crapper lol. It's a mess in mostly every way and lots of people are starting to think about relocating.

I have dry 55 year old skin and have been wearing the Always On with a hydrating primer and I have not used another foundation since. Super long wearing and looks beautiful ❤
Mix a facial oil with your moisturizer and it helps.
Just slather on the moisturizer beforehand!!
I appreciate your dedication to doing this video so "scientifically." A lot of people gloss over details or do things that would make a makeup test be compromised but you are such a professional! I swore by Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation, and wore it faithfully for over 25 years. Then I discovered Il MAKIAGE, and thought that was it. But, I am now a devoted user of Laura Gellar baked, Balance, and Brighten! It is absolutely amazing! Does not settle in my lines/wrinkles, and lasts all day. Great, buildable, coverage. Btw, I’ll be 65 this November.
You did not mention all of the concealer that you have underneath it so it is not an honest review of the product. That leads me to believe that you were paid well by the company of that product for a favorable opinion of the foundation.
I honestly never judge a foundation I’ve spent my money on without doing my full face of makeup. I need to know that it is going to work with all of my other makeup. I give it a few days of playtime with all of my other makeup to be absolutely sure. Your comment left me a bit confused. I can certainly understand if you are new to makeup though and that might be why you are concerned.

What about a comparison between Smashbox and Catrice? I have extremely oily skin, but I don't really like the price point of either the Smashbox or the Double Wear.

I switched to Estee Lauder foundation many years back and still to this day live how natural it looks on my face and also how it lasts for hours longer too
