Standard doublewear works SO well when applied with a damp sponge. Works VERY differently to when applied with a brush. With a damp sponge it is not at all cakey and still very long wearing
Oh please full video. I’m looking for long wearing transfer proof foundation for my occasional business trips and i don’t want to have to do touch-up. Now you reminded me that I have bought this foundation 6 yrs ago and still have it and somehow kept looking for new one. Well, I guess I buy simply fresh double wear🙏🫶 thank you!

Been using Double Wear since launch in the 90s and trust me the best way to apply it is with your hands, if you dont want to do that the next best thing is a damp beauty blender. I've tried so many other high end foundations now im in my 50s thinking there might be something out there better for mature skin but nothing compares, i just use a heavier moisturiser and a little less foundation and its simply perfect.
I just purchased my first Double Wear after “taking a break” from it for over 20 years. At age 74, I am fully aware that my skin has drastically changed since I last wore what was once my holy grail. I would so appreciate a follow-up video with in-depth instructions regarding skin prep and foundation application!
If I had listened to many influencers regarding Double Wear, I never would’ve bought it for my 40 something dry skin. The fact is, when applied using a damp sponge in small sections using small amounts at a time, it is stunning. One of the few foundations that sticks on my nose (and actually looks good). This is my favorite of all my foundations. Just prep your skin really well, use the tiniest amount and prepared to be wowed.
I LOVE the double wear! You influenced me to buy it. I didn't want to pay the price but I broke down and so happy I did!! Please make a video to how to apply it I want' to see if I'm doing something wrong; I use a brush and tone these down with a sponge.
Would love an application video on double wear - I tried a sample this year and wasn't a fan, probably because I applied it far too heavily! You might have convinced me to try it again - I've been in limbo with foundations since lancome reformulated their ultra wear 😠
Me too! I really want to love it as have found the perfect shade match! But just can't get it to look nice/wear well! It seems to show up both my dry and oily patches by lunchtime!
I use a damp sponge and love it, this is the best foundation ever for longevity, can be light coverage or full, i prefer light, you can also mix it wirh something like serum foundation or very glowy one for longwear, definitely one that i have to have always ❤, never failed me
Double Wear user for years here, i was using it when i had even dry skin, now i'm more combo , use a pump and spred it with a dump sponge very fast! You don't need more than a pump and if you have dry skin try using a good moisturiser before !
I would love a tutorial on how to apply double wear. I’ve loved it for years, but it has started emphasizing my mouth lines, so I’ve stopped. Also, I would LOVE a video around April of your top picks for powder foundation. I live in a warm climate and would love a good powder foundation for the summer that doesn’t emphasize wrinkles and fine lines. I’ve only tried bare minerals in the past.
My newest powder foundation is the Makeup Forever HD Skin Velvet Matte Undetectable Longwear Blurring Powder. They reformulated it this year and it’s fantastic! I have oily combo skin and live in Houston where it very humid and hot! I love this product because it’s customizable coverage and it’s very skin like after setting spray. It is blurring and long wearing. They have tons of shades. I didn’t care for the liquid version of this foundation but I just love this. I’m 62 so I don’t want anything that is drying and emphasizes texture/wrinkles and this checks off all my boxes. Plus Makeup Forever sells extra sponges which I’ve taken advantage of because I just don’t like beauty sponges because they break me out. Give this one a try!!!
Wearing double wear for years and years and I am 73. I apply it with my fingers. I try the light version and the futurist. Did not like it that much. I would like to see a video for applying it at its best, thank you Gemma. Always a pleasure to look at you
Yes a video how to apply double wear please. I have just got a sample so would be most helpful. I really enjoy your videos and we need to see your mum back! it would be good to see the double wear on your mum? ❤. Great reviews thank you. 🙏
Such an original video!! 🙏🏻 Love it already but starting to watch just now ;) I’m using the normal Double Wear since 2020 and it’s so good. But curious about the other ones! Edit: just watched it and I’m glad I chose the right one at once;) But I apply it with a damp sponge, works better for me that with a brush! But you have to work fast in parts of the face, not all at once. Also, I need to prep my skin good because the foundation is somewhat dry but it works every single time! So I fully agree with you!
Hi being a registered nurse i needed a foundation to last over 12 hrs so yes i started at 16 yrs old double wear and used that for over twenty years , but at the weekend i use Tom ford . or armani silk both these i absolutely love. but will not last my working day ,in a hot environment in a intensive care unit. so yes i found double wear light which is perfect for summer . but i use double wear and its perfect for my work life. one thing i use a sponge to apply double wear ! never a brush ! i use re nutriv skin care so i feel get your skin care right foundation will follow. i am mature and my skin looks fabulous with my foundation,
Gemma, thank you! yes, PLEASE do a video of the best way to apply ELDW!!! Thank you for doing this! I have used a sponge, but I am not sure if I am doing it the way that gets the best results. it would be great to see it applied with both sponges and brushes (along with which ones of each you suggest). What brushes are you using in this video?
I've been using EL DW for SO many years and I cannot imagine my life without it. I have combination skin with quite bad rosacea and this is the only foundation (I've tried hundreds over the years) that works for me. I do apply it with a wet sponge though, I like the finish better. And for days when I stay at home I use the EL powder foundation for just a little bit of coverage. EL is definitely the winner for me when it comes to foundation. 😍
Good Morning Gemma! I would like to thank you for all the videos you have put up this year, we probably don't know how much work goes into creating them and I am very grateful. I would also like to share something with the other "wolfies", even if just to prove you know what you are talking about. In January doctors found a dark thingie in my lung after many tests they decided to remove my lung then I have four month of chemotherapy. I was a smoker and have tried to quit so many times without fail. But along with the scare and the weeks in hospital I have done and have bought my self a nuface toner and the led mask. I promised myself that if I managed to quit smoking than I would invest. Either I am an alien hybrid or these gadget really work along with the non smoking. I am 53 and my skin looks fantastic even after the year I have had. So please everyone, stop smoking, give yourself a second chance and if I can do it then so can you. Don't wait until you have to have organs removed. Gemma, I am wishing you and your family including the handsome Ralph, the best Christmas and thank you once again for all the videos.
Started using double where again myself for last few months and fell back in love with it ❤ would love to see a video on how you apply it as i always use sponge.
I miss double wear light so much I don't know how they thought double wear shear was a replacement luckily I love the original but its not the same if was ever going to be married it was gonna be a wedding foundation for sure
Thank you for your video. Just goes to show how different skins react to a foundation. I adore Maximum cover and have worn it every day for years. Lasts all day and I have tested this on a 26 hour flight with minimal touch-ups. The trick is to use only a tiny amount, you only need about quarter to half a pea size to get full coverage. I mix mine with a couple of drops of EL night serum to help spread and not dry down so quickly. Also mixed in with original double wear is awesome as well.
You are so lucky to have a local EL advisor in shop. I've not seen one in Bristol for years. I've had such problems trying to get hold of one of their eyeshadow lately that I was wondering if the company was going bust!! Thank you for a brilliant video ❤
I can’t believe you like the Nutriv but not Futirist. Futurist is the foundation of my dreams. 47, dry skin, fine lines, texture. It’s better than my $150 Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate soft glow
Hi Gemma lol😂double wear. I have severely dry skin and even applied with a sponge lightly it made me look about 100(crypt keeper is probably the best description- it’s truly awful on me). Unfortunately it is the only EL foundation with a decent shade range- all the others are far far too dark for me. My mum likes their re nutrive and it looks great on her all day, but the shade range is not great on this one. She doesn’t have quite as dry skin as I do though despite being in her seventies. The futurist is for very dry skin and I think I might like that one if the shade range was better (a recurring theme and quite dismal for such an easily accessible brand IMO). They do really good samples and try to give you several days of product to try it out properly. All in all it is not a favourite brand for complexion products for me yet I had some curiosity and am glad you found something you enjoy so much. Best wishes x
yes please! Can you do a video on the double wear on how to apply this best with a brush, with a sponge and with fingers? I only apply my foundations with my fingers, no matter the price/quality of the brush it looks horrendous (streaky, simply a textured mess, even a professional make up artist switched to finger application with my skin 🤷♀) 😬
I’ve gone back to DW after years. The shade match is so good and I now mix a little on the back of my hand with Vieve Skin Nova before applying and I love how it looks and lasts.
Hi Gemma, thank you for ranking the Estée Lauder’s foundations. I been using DW stay in place for long time it’s my favorite foundation. My skin is normal/ combination it works great on my face. I am very happy with it.
100% agree with you!! I was also soooo disappointed with the new foundation skin serum foundation 😞 wanted to make it work so badly but it’s just wasn’t it. Thankfully I had only the sample! The concealer however is banging and highly recommend! ❤
I just got the Re nutriv foundation, it’s texture is so unique! And it looks so so natural on the skin, it’s perfect for people who don’t like a full coverage and prefer a more natural look. It looks so flattering!! The EL Double Wear will always stay one of my favs as well
I always go back to the Double Wear, it looks and feels great when applied correctly and it is the only foundation that does not make my T zone shiny throughout the day. I have combination skin and I apply it with a wet sponge, but it looks good with a brush too if applied in a very thin layer. The only foundation I like just as much is the Dior Forever 24h, the matte one. It's a tiny bit more radiant than Double Wear, good lasting power as well.
Please make a application video for the Double Wear original. This is one of my favorite foundations. I love wearing it in the winter. Love your videos. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Great vlog Gemma. I did purchase DW over a year ago but struggled with it. Now I realise what I was doing wrong with my application! Have a superb Christmas and thank you for all your tps and tricks. X
The only thing to improve from the OG Double Wear is the packaging, as it would be better if it was like the DW Sheer or the DW Maximum Coverage (more like plastic/squeezy instead of glass). Thanks for the video! x
Love double wear, have been using it on and off for years and years, use other foundations, but always come back to double wear, my skin is on the drier side, but never looks dry on my skin, and lasts all day, and doesn’t sink Into fine lines either, you can always use some primer with the foundation to sheer it out, amazing product,
I love love love Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation. Have used it for about a year. I am 74 years old. I first clean my face with Clinique clarifying lotion, then moisturize with No7 Lift & Luminate day cream. Then I drink some of my coffee while the moisturizer works into my skin (about 5 minutes). Then I apply my primer, elf poreless primer. Drink another sips of my coffee, and dampen my beauty blender sponge. Put a few drops of my DW foundation on the top of my hand, dab with sponge and lightly press into my face all over. Works way better than a brush, I’ve tried both ways. Sounds like it takes a lot of time, but it actually doesn’t. When I like the coverage, I apply my blush and spray my makeup with my elf finishing spray. So worth it, and I’m ready for my day! 💋💋💋
What I love about EL Double Wear is that they have a winner which has been a favourite of so many for so many years....and they haven't messed with it!! Other companies (Lancome Teinte Idole I'm looking at you) mess around and ruin perfection!!! I wish companies would stop reformulating!!!
Just wanted to let you know I purchased the Commodity perfume you are in love with, and it is WONDERFUL!! It's so delicious and has some of my favorite perfume notes, so it's a treat each time I spray it. Thank you soooo much for featuring this perfume so I could buy this slice of heaven myself!❤❤
Double wear for the win 😊 I always use a damp sponge always. I tried so many brushes but it always looks streaky and then I go over it with a sponge. And with a brush you have the risk of swiping off your spf. And with a sponge you tap it in which doesn’t “move” the spf underneath as much. My dermatologist gave me this advice. Even when you let your spf soak into the skin for 20 minutes you still (when using a Brush and make swpiping motions) remove Some of the protection. For me a sponge is not only better but it gives me an even more flawless look. Win win 😊
I agree with you! I have all the EL foundations except the heavy coverage one and I was disappointed with them. I use the #1 and some days the powder, I use the serum before I put on foundation. I use the skin care which is amazing on my 65 yo skin. Excellent comparison, I thought I was a little crazy.
I would love to see how you apply your No 1 favourite, Double Wear, because I always struggle with it. It seems to dry down so quickly that I don't have enough time to blend it in and it ends up patchy. I've tried adding moisturiser to make it a bit more pliable but this just changes how it looks. The only other one I have tried is Double Wear Light which has since been discontinued. I can't use Futurist as it contains fragrance.
@@susanreid9857I disagree. I have dry skin & it looks great on my 56 yr old skin. Skin prep is important & I add a drop or 2 of a face oil if I want a bit more glow.
Jema I love your channel. I'm new to foundation, I just started wearing Double Wear. Please make a video focusing on using Double Wear. That would be awesome and so helpful. Happy New Years to you and everyone!
Double wear standard was my foundation for years. However, as time passed by, it did dry my skin. Why? If you live in Madrid, your skin is dry and, in addition, mature (50+) it doesn't work. But now I live in a tropical country, with 100% humidity. What foundation did I choose? Of course, double wear. Impecable. The best. Ever.
Such a useful video, thanks for filming and posting it! The Futurist used to be my favourite until I bought one, from the official website, that would just oxidize to orange, absolutely horrendous... They must have changed the formulation, so disappointed
I would love a tutorial on applying Estee Lauder Double Wear. That was one of the first high end foundations I purchased, but I never felt it was quite right. Also had trouble with pilling, but only when wearing suns screen. I really need the tutorial.
I don’t know who put me onto ELDW but I love it & the colour match is great. I got lots of samples in different shades before I found the perfect one. I have dry mature skin (56) & just add a drop or 2 of a face oil or a glowy kind of primer if I don’t want to look so matte. I’ve always applied with a brush (BK101 so use tapping motion to apply) but will now give a sponge & my hands a go to see which works best.
I love the double wear sheer, it’s one of my favour foundations but I struggle to wear it in summer as I’m quite oily. I have the original but hardly ever wear it as I struggle with application so would love a video on that! 😊
Really interesting video .... thank you for sharing your opinions .... I too love Double wear ... but would love you see a 'how to apply' video please ❤❤❤❤
I believe Estée Lauder recommends applying Double Wear with your finger tips. I am good with this because I actually hate sponges that drink up your expensive foundation and brushes which harbor bacteria and are hard to clean. I find applying Double Wear with my finger tips and then going over with a big soft brush leaves a perfect finish.
I’ve used EL Double Wear for 30 year and just switched to the Sheer formula in the last few year, since the reoriginal was just becoming too dry. Funny u chose the same as I’ve used forever. When I use the sheer up, I’ll try mixing the original that I still have, with a moisturizer. Thanks for this one.
I remember when i first started having hot flashes, i had had a really physical day and had sweated several times. I kept thinking i must look horrible. I got in the car to go home and with the setting sun in my face i checked in the mirror and my skin was flawles!! I couldn't believe it. Double Wear is the bomb. However... it seems to be looking very heavy on me lately. I need to practice applying it thinner maybe?
I agree with you on the Futurist Hydra Rescue foundation. It’s so finicky and always hit and miss as to how it turns out. I don’t find this to be very long wearing at all.
I have very dry skin and the Hydra Rescue is the only foundation that looks great on my skin. As a good no.2 is the Re-Nutriv. Perfect color matches as well. I apply with a brush.
I use the DW extra cover, but would NEVER dare wear on my face.I have very bad discoloration on my ankles and lower legs and it works well for this.I do like the EL tinted moisturisers for my face . Just bought the YSL Nu , which I think is lovely.
I have just started using Double Wear and would love to see a video on how best to apply it. The consultant advised a buff brush but I do wonder if this picks up too much product
Hi im agre with you with the number one and 2 , those are my favorites, im trying the newest and I really liket , is in my 3 place !!! ❤❤ exelen video !!!
Gemma, i love double wear. I'm wondering if you have ever tried No7 airbrush away primer, i use it on my nose to stop my glasses from lifting my foundation (no matter which 1 I use). It works perfectly for me along with a little powder after.
Can I ask when you say, you’ve tried better powder foundations what they are, please I’m a big fan of them and find them so easy to use, as I’ve got older liquid foundations tend to sink in lines and wrinkles and look unflattering!
Love❤ DW the best ever but I've found a blooming great dupe 😊from W7 called Legend lasting wear, honestly cant tell the difference and its lasts...and lasts 😊
I used to use the DW light which they discontinued. It was perfect. Angry like lots of other people that its not now available. Why on earth did they got rid of it. as it was one of their best sellers. All their other foundations do not compare. Have to go to another brand like like others have had to do.
Oof I am not the only one who does not like the hydra rescue. I personally only like the old goldies EL DW standard, water fresh , standard light. I feel like the hydra rescue, sheer and skin tint are too velvety to the point it feels and looks like a slippery mess. I am very sad they discontinued 2 of my favorites and replaced it with this
So many people say the Futurist is shiny and/or call it hydrating, but I haven’t had that experience. I am a combo oily skin type with “normal” skin everywhere, except for my T-zone, which is oily. On me it doesn’t feel hydrating at all and it’s a natural matte finish. It really makes me wonder if there are inconsistencies between the undertones. I have a cool undertone, and everyone who I have heard say it is hydrating or shiny, either has a warm undertone, or a neutral undertone.
I’m not a fan of double wear honestly it’s just too much I personally want my face to look as if I’m not really wearing foundation so the newer tinted serum I’m in love with ❤ I get what she is saying about it not lasting but use a light powder just a little bit and a anti oil setting spray and boom ❤
YES! Please make us a video about how to apply double wear and have it look like skin. Would love to see that.

I opt for the damp beauty blender every time I do prep well I bounce it for ages and it lasts all-day
Mix the DW with a serum its a game changer
I mix it with a drop of serum, apply it with fingers and buff it with a flat brush as I go. Then I use a hydrating spray to set.
I totally agree!

The EL Double Wear will always stay one of my favs as well
Appreciate your review Gemma, thank you
I have trouble with Futurist Hydra Rescue, too. You are not alone.
You looked so good in the Re-Nutriv foundation which actually didn't look bad at all by the end of the day
I always go back to the Double Wear, it looks and feels great when applied correctly and it is the only foundation that does not make my T zone shiny throughout the day.
Yes please on how to apply double wear
Great vlog Gemma. I did purchase DW over a year ago but struggled with it. Now I realise what I was doing wrong with my application!
Have a superb Christmas and thank you for all your tps and tricks. X
Thanks for demoing these products. I use the Double Wear and was curious about the other options options
The only thing to improve from the OG Double Wear is the packaging, as it would be better if it was like the DW Sheer or the DW Maximum Coverage (more like plastic/squeezy instead of glass). Thanks for the video! x
Same for me about the Futurist! So many love it and it looks so greasy on my skin. Wish they would bring the DW
Light back 😢that was my HG.
I absolutely agree that the futurist hydra rescue is terrible and makes the skin look very greasy. 😢
Love the OG D - WEAR 🎉
Excellent video, Gemma! I so appreciate all the work and b-roll that went into it. Thank you and happy holidays, enjoy the time with your family!
Thank you. Same to you x
So glad you love it xxx
Hey Gemma I have to agree the double wear is the best ❤
Double wear for the win 😊 I always use a damp sponge always. I tried so many brushes but it always looks streaky and then I go over it with a sponge. And with a brush you have the risk of swiping off your spf. And with a sponge you tap it in which doesn’t “move” the spf underneath as much. My dermatologist gave me this advice. Even when you let your spf soak into the skin for 20 minutes you still (when using a Brush and make swpiping motions) remove Some of the protection. For me a sponge is not only better but it gives me an even more flawless look. Win win 😊
Hi Gemma, I would love a tutorial on the best way to apply this foundation!! Thanks!!💕🇨🇦
Only use Estée Lauder Double Wear
Love it and other make up artists do also Highly recommended by me
I would love to see how you apply your No 1 favourite, Double Wear, because I always struggle with it.
Would love an application video of double wear (especially for dry skin)
I don't think it's suits dry skin .just my opinion xx
@@susanreid9857I disagree. I have dry skin & it looks great on my 56 yr old skin. Skin prep is important & I add a drop or 2 of a face oil if I want a bit more glow.
I'd really love a video on how to apply the double wesr foundation without it looking too cakey.
Oh no, you’ve just started and I’m already bummed. I was hoping the new skin tint would be good 😢Thank goodness for you!
I love the double wear sheer, it’s one of my favour foundations but I struggle to wear it in summer as I’m quite oily. I have the original but hardly ever wear it as I struggle with application so would love a video on that! 😊
Hey Gemma, I use the double sheer one it’s the best one for me because I don’t like full coverage on my mature skin.thnxs for all the expleaning 🙏🏽
I love the normal double wear. I’m finding however I’m having to use more of a glowy foundation in the wintertime x❤
Really interesting video .... thank you for sharing your opinions ....
I too love Double wear ... but would love you see a 'how to apply' video please ❤❤❤❤
Double wear is my fave foundation ever, it's hard to beat. I'd like a slightly lighter coverage one but didn't like 'light' version last year.
Yes please do a video on the EL foundation i always look dry around my nose and mouth lines.
I have super dry skin and I love DW. I don't know what's in it but it works!
Please Gemma do a video on Double Wear application
My favorite foundation for years 😊
I agree with you on the Futurist Hydra Rescue foundation.
The original formula of double wear light was my HG since high school. Still mad about that 😅
I have just started using Double Wear and would love to see a video on how best to apply it.
I have. I ought to get it back out. X
Please 👏 🙏 do a video about how to apple the double wear as 8ve used for years and love it but maybe go overboard and usually end up cakes
I’ve heard people say it’s mattifying too so maybe there is a difference in ingredients along the way. Mine is so oily it separates in the tube. X
@@PamperedWolf wow, that’s crazy (the oil separating)!
Same on my but I do like it x
@@susanreid9857 I like it as well-especially in the summer because it doesn’t slide all over my face and pool in lines.
Great video Gemma thanks so much 😊
Oooh great will go & get a ☕️ X
