Hey, Ed and Emily! I just wanted to give you some advice as you’re new to tarantulas. Unlike what you may see in care guides they don’t have certain humidity percentages that they require like reptiles to breathe and molt. They molt using their internal humidity which is the water they drink. For most common beginner species, like Grace, it is generally best to always have a full water dish and to keep them on dry substrate instead of really damp substrate like what was shown in the video. Then you want to mist one corner of the enclosure, wait for that to dry out, then mist another corner. If you notice that your tarantula is hanging out around the moisture a lot then mist slightly more space. They also appreciate really deep substrate to dig in. Some people will tell you that handling is bad and not to do it because tarantulas can’t learn they aren’t in danger like reptiles so it’s very stressful. I personally choose not to handle my tarantulas at all just in case, but as long as your tarantula is eating, and molting fine then handling it is probably fine for that individual. As a side note, I would recommend a Green Bottle Blue tarantula for the facility. They web a TON and tend to stand out in the open almost all the time. They also have gorgeous colors. I think that it would be a huge hit there.
Wow, thank you so much for all of the info and suggestions!!
Wow
@@SnakeDiscovery if it stops eating don't worry until it's abdomen starts shrinking, some species will fast for months and tarantulas in general will stop eating for long periods.
Thank you, Nazareth!! If you or anybody else has anymore tips, feel free to share them here and I'll include as many of them as possible in the care video!
Snake Discovery You’re very welcome. I hope you have a good time with her and get over your fears. I never understood why people would like tarantulas until I got mine. Now I love them just as much as my reptiles!
Awwwwwwwwwwww! My beautiful Eomer! I’m glad that you made it! I told Eowyn, but she really didn’t care at the moment because she was exploring! I still miss you very much! And I’m happy you made it safely and will be well taken care of! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Also side note - I love his little black pink tongue!
He’s so beautiful!! I love his shininess. You are awesome
Thank you so much for thinking of us to adopt him, Temari!! He has been a joy to have so far!!
Thank you for sending him in (and especially for that awesome note), I hate seeing a pet suffer because an owner doesn't want to loose them, like thats selfishness not love, so every time i see someone put their companion's wellbeing over their personal hurt it just redeems humanity in my eyes, we are capable of love and yall wre proof
He's adorable!
What a beautiful snake. Thanks for giving him to Emily & Ed. They will provide an excellent home!
It's funny, They said the tarantula was softer than a cat....and her family has a cat named Spidey.....
Hee hee
Hah
Well, they borrowed him, but tru!
Ok

That is amazing how Temari included hatch date, shed skins, etc. Such an amazing owner for the snake. It’s a shame that she couldn’t keep him. At least he has a good home now.
Temari, she is in the comment section btw xD
EmberEarth Thank you for informing me. I was unaware because I left my comment then I continued to watch the video.
Emily: "You're going to hate me even more when I check you over for mites."
Angry Cobra: *WUT*
As soon as grace came out of the tube i legit almost cried 😭 there is nothing cuter than a spider's careful little toe taps as they explore, what a perfect little babie ❤💕
I love how the tarantula just climbs right out and was like YAASSSS
Hahahaha
Spiders are gross
@@Enderwolf87 speak for yourself
I was suprised they fit in such a small space. Kinda of like a cat.
Right
I keep a few different species of tarantula's, including the curly haired. I would recommend at least 4-5 inches of substrate since they love to burrow. A water dish provides the perfect amount of humidity for them, so no need to spray the enclosure. Have fun with the new additions to your family!
I agree...all of mine like to dig deep burrows as well.
I have a 10 gallen filled 3/4 of the way up mine loves it
Hi tarantula collective I like your care videos. I always watch them when I really like a species or just to learn about a species.

I want a tarantula but my mom is scared

When you’re scared of spiders but watched this video and they name the spider the same name as you
O.O ....
My little cousin should see this
You are a spider now. That's the rules.
it’s a sign
Oof dats harsh
i love how emily has a fear of spiders but handles hundreds of snakes every day
it's all gotta do with the Legs™
no legs, no problem that's what I always say
i mean but spooders are spooders, danger noodles are danger noodles.. noodles look like pool noodles and pool noodles aren't scary.. Spooders are adorable but spooky
Ummmm... They're nothing alike and completely different animals. That's like saying "I can't believe you're comfortable around tigers but you touch wolverines all the time"
The more legs it has the more terrifying it is. Snakes are fine, no legs. Insects are ...ok ish... Spiders are kinda a nope,
Centipedes are a big nope
and millipedes are just swiffers
That would be me tho
Ed: "Emily's not the *biggest* fan of tarantulas"
Emily: Allows mega-spider to crawl on her
Me: *screeches in arachnophobia*
Lolll same
Sameee!
I had arachnophobia for a while but got over thanks to Pokemon and Minecraft. Araiados is flipping adorable
But she’s so cuuuute
My sister can relate but I'm not scared of bugs that much
I just got my first snake, a (I was told Male) 4ish month old Snow Motley corn snake named Mercury after Freddie Mercury. I have watched your channel for years and overcome a slight fear of snakes. I have had Mercury for 3 weeks and it took me a couple weeks to completely stop being afraid of him, but I am finally holding him every day (other than 2 days after feed) without gloves and he hasn"_ tried to bite me once :) Thank you so much for showing me how beautiful snakes are.
I want to get a Mexican Black King Snake next! They're so gorgeous.
How do I get on your wait list? :) (I know its booked out a while)
I've been wanting a Corn Snake and after convincing my parents Im still planning and getting one at the next snake Expo! My mom is out of a Job and once she gets one we are going to talk about getting one! Ive been planning and have made 2 Slide shows and 1 Book and one in the making! Ive been looking for Snow,Lavander, and Albino.
@@tooumes7523 I like Lavenders a lot but they never appear purple enough for me to want to spend 500 bucks on one. I paid 85 for my Snow Motley and he's so cute and pink
@@TaterTotXDXD where did you get that snake,I usually look on morph market or at expos,I found a really cute Butter corn on Morph Market and was contemplating buying it its 130$ with the shipping
@@tooumes7523 I got him at Ryno's Reptiles and Rodents. He was around 130 shipped.
@@TaterTotXDXD y tf would u buy a snake if ur scared of them :/
The moment I saw Grace's front legs peeking out I decided I wanted a curly hair tarantula and that is now my ultimate goal.
Funnily, I don’t have as terrible of a reaction to tarantulas as most arachnids, but I still wouldn’t be able to appreciate one as a pet. Give your T lots and lots of love from me ❤️.
Its been atleast a year now, do you have one yet?
Emily: I'm not that comfortable with spiders.
Also Emily: lemme put this tarantula on my hands!
Emily: She’s not happy
Ed: She is NOT happy
Emily: *sticks hand in the bag*
My brother is crazy about snakes
Gjmjxbmkl
That's just how us reptile lovers function :)
lol
Robert.
the way tarantulas walk makes them adorable to me. Their dainty little tiptoed stippy-steps won me over instantly.
Emily: How did you do in transit?
Temari: *It’s obvious - NOT WELL*
Emily and Ed! Thank you for showcasing tarantulas in a positive light! As a reptile and tarantula keeper, tarantulas often get a bad rap and I love how you guys are giving these wonderful creatures a spotlight too! I (as well as many others) also commented on the sponge issue and it makes me so happy to know that you read comments and corrected that advice so professionally! Keep up the great work!
Im an arachnofob but I have no problem looking on vids or passing by tarantulas on repticons but spiders (like the black Big ones in our barn) makes skin crawl and I end up running away from them, I cant even watch spiders on vids. But I know that there are people near where I live that keep tarantulas and have decided to contact them and see if anyone of them would let me come visit (once covid-19 is gone).
My MBK INSTANTLY chomped on my finger when I first got her, so as soon as Emily questioned if he would eat out of the box, I knew the answer
I love how Emily doesn’t act like she knows everything while she’s really well educated on animal care she always admits when she’s wrong on someth8ng and that’s what I love abt her
Emily: Which should we open first?
Ed: Tarantula
Emily: Hognose it is!
Ed: Wow, look at the.....packing peanuts
Ed did say the hognose...though it is hard to hear because they both were talking at the same time. What he did say about the tarantula is that he was sure that the little container was, in fact, the tarantula
It braided 2 kingplates I had 5 Aids
Emily: "You're really going to hate me when I check you for mites"
Tamari: *WUT*
😂😂
I bet ed bought something again :) tell ed to keep “surprise” buying reptiles, emily!
Ed has the best laugh, and I love your baby voice with the tarantula.
Me when i see a small house spider: *visible fear*
Emily with the tarantula:aww it's so cute
Emily: Your such a scary little cobra
Hognose: Wait what? Are you really comparing me to those low life’s?!?!
You have no idea how much it killed me inside to watch the tarantula. I’m so terrified of larger spiders, but I will suffer through this because I love your channel so much 😩
Good job:) I personally love Tarantulas tho
Good job:) I personally love Tarantulas tho
I had to scroll down to the comments so I could just listen to the rest of the video. I am beyond terrified of tarantulas. I couldn't do it.
I’m scared of smol house spooders more that big spooders.
They are actually really delicate and cautious. Like Grace in this video, a lot of them seem polite. Like sometimes they looks like they are waiting for permission before walking onto someone's hand. 😅
Emily: like a cat but softer
Tyler rugge: little leg puppies
Omg how is she able to handle these animals so calmly! I would have run away screaming.
Because she's not a softy
Emily: I want wait to tell my sister we named a spider after her
Me: There's a reaction video I want to see
I thought she was joking at first...she wasn’t. I both laughed and was displeased 😂 my arachnophobia is well known in our family
@@Whereiswilloughby I can handle just about anything. Rodents? They are adorable. Birds? Messy and noisy, but so beautiful. Snakes? Ermagersh! There’s so many amazing beautiful ones out there. Amphibians? Awww! They’re so stinking cute! Fish? No problem! They’re fun to watch. Spiders, mantids, or walking sticks? I’m sorry, but that is not ever gonna happen!

Oh my gosh!!! I LOVE the little words the snakes “say” 😂😂😂. I would’ve never thought of Tarantulas being in the IT business. 😂😂😂
I love how you always accept to be corrected when you learn the info you had is wrong. So many people are SO reluctant to admit they're wrong, and they get nasty when they are corrected (no matter how nicely you tell them).
But no, you're always "so I learned this was wrong, I'm sorry, this is the actual fact" and we learn with you :) that's why you make great educators.
Yasss! I preach with you!
*FACTS*
I used to have a sand snake and he LOVED mice but he was given to the owner before us because we had a berda dragon which was huge! I love your Videos! Keep up the good work and stay safe in quarintene!
When you get a chocolate add before watching snake discovery. 😂
That was me!!! I got a KitKat
Ooohhhh.... chocolate... haven't had that in a while and now I'm hungry at 4 am
Perfect.
I found an egg cutting video in my dessert tab
Doesn't seem appropriate at first. Then you get to know Ed and Emily and it becomes the most appropriate ad ever 😂.
Me: Scared of Spiders
Emily: Getting over her fear
Me again: THANK GOODNESS I’M NOT ALONE 😅
Same here.
I shuddered when Grace started crawling out of the container. I want to get over my fear of spiders (partially have because I do use my hands to move smaller spiders if they're in harm's way) but I wouldn't get a tarantula just for that purpose 😂
same you know what helped me... i discovered a magical creature from australia, the peacock spider, theres a bunch of different types with colorfull fluffy little looks and they dance to atract mates, they adorable! ua-cam.com/video/KxM_cag99nU/v-deo.html
Same!!! Trying to get over my fear with the vids
Haha, the tables have turned! :) Normally Emily & Ed have to hold and work with the animals to socialize them, but now Grace has to "hold and work with" Emily & Ed to socialize *them* to being comfortable with spiders!

Make sure you have plenty of substrate for your Tliltocatl (was Brachypelma) albopilosus (was albopilosum). Good ol' name changes..... lol. They love to dig and move dirt around. I find mine with it's fangs full of dirt pretty often. Have fun keeping the substrate out of the water dish 😁.
OH MY GOD! Animal House is where I got my Plains Hognose Snake! Dan Thomas is amazing and I'll always stand by him. He has great feeders as well! You two seem so close yet so far! I live in Southeast Wisconsin :) Can't wait for your zoo to be done. I'll for sure be taking time off work and a few friends to go tour what is sure to be an incredible place.

make sure you go to a pet store and hold a snake before you get one, i really wanted a snake but when i held one it tried to go up my sleeve and i quickly changed my mind.
I keep coming back to this video just to watch the tarantula part. For some reason it's really satisfying to watch a fluffy spider crawl out of a jar. All her little legs look like a time lapse of a blooming plant.
Emily: a bit scared of tarantulas.

Grace is such a gorgeous tarantula. Love that she is more chill than half of Exotic Lair's collection.
What an adorable tarantula she is!! I love how careful and deliberately she moves about, very cute and curious! I think it’s a really good omen she just came crawling right out docile as can be because regardless of how nice the species is, most of the tarantulas I’ve seen/met seemed either bolty or salty when they first arrived. Can’t wait to see more of her!!
Emily: “alright lets get this baby up in quarantine”
Me: *you don’t say...*
I’m confused????
Emily: "You're gonna hate me even more when I check you for mites"

I’m an arachnophobe named Grace so I feel for your sister, but I love irony and that slightly twisted humor so I love her name. I love watching this video and your other spider videos to help me push myself
I like that they put the note on the top so they could warn you about the trying to eat fingers before you unpacked the snake rather than after!

I’m from Hawaii so we don’t have many “dangerous” spiders, but they still scare me. So when I saw the tarantula coming out of the container I was like “nope!”, but as I continued watching I thought that she was actually pretty cute. I’d probably still freak out if I held one irl, but Grace is definitely a cutie!❤️❤️❤️
She's game though, not even Petko from the Dark Den is keen to handle his adult spiders, specially ones that just got delivered (unless they're babies), out of his hundreds of Tarantulas he only feels comfortable holding around two of em.
Even one species that's human friendly he still doesn't hold because of her aggressive personality.
I have always been kinda fascinated by snakes. They're awesome. Totes on you for being able to have a tarantula crawl on your hands. I might faint if that were to happen to me. And Eomer was soooo cute and sassy. Kinda like me.
I love your videos so much! They are all so interesting and you have so much variation on your channel!
Your new curly hair is beautiful!! I'm always super excited to see others branch out to tarantulas, and a more well established channel like yours will absolutely help with the common misconceptions. She looks fantastic, seems very docile and i hope you enjoy keeping such a unique arachnid!
Heck yeah! Normalize tarantula keeping! They are amazing specimens to have in your collection for sure.
I love your channel! You are so good with explaining and it’s pretty soothing to listen to. You are amazing! (Including Ed) ❤️
I ordered a Columbian Red Tail boa from Animal house and they were very easy to work with. We had trouble with the shipping and Daniel fixed it right up. She came safe and sound.
