Very helpful Zach. I did this spiral move by accident today & it has been a game changer for me. I am a slicer but this spiralling up to top of backswing makes it easier to come in to out. I have feeling of corner of left eye looking down on ball as i spiral uo to top.
Awesome tks for the insightful help i have watched Pete and i couldnt get his message in my head but your instructions are so clear i now know what he is describing you are both amazing instructors cant wait to apply this clear information in my golf swing i have always just pushed my left shoulder and left armaround to the top resulting in hardly any shoulder or hip turn lots of head movement as well resulting in discusting mis hits and absolutely no power all my life and yet was able to compete in football and hockey at fairly high level with no problem and no lack of strength tks again for your help
I am a 67 year old retired Army guy who is trying to refine my swing - now that I am “retired”. I just sent the below note to my son and 3 son in laws - The below makes so much sense. So many things he pointed out - and I am like “Yes!” Alex - notice how small the hip twist is… He says he does not like the word “rotation” used in describing what happens during a golf backswing - as it is not an accurate description of what NEEDS to be accomplished in the backswing to get your body “coiled” at the top off the backswing…. He is trying to point out that just because you have “rotated” your body on the backswing - does not mean you have moved to your “best” coiled body(circular staircase) position to STRIKE the ball on impact…. Where the “best” is a function of MANY variables to include age and flexibility…. 😎 Cannot wait to be able to try it out…
Viewed this drill just before playing a round this morning. I tried to visualize the staircase during my round and hit my driver and fairway woods straighter and longer than I have in a long long time. The staircase seams to be the right medicine for what ails my swing. I struggled a bit with the irons but hopefully I'll be able to work that out on the range. Thanks :Zach for sharing this great way to create a powerful coil.
Thank you so much Zach for the drill. I have been playing golf since I was very young I'm now 35. This drill has made it all finally click for me. I get a lot more power through my swing and the shots are far more consistent.
zach, i've recently discovered this year how important the pivot is as opposed to just thinking arm swing, it's like it's a fundamental and i've been trying to improve upon it. this is a really good video with the visuals and info, thnx.
Zach I finally understand how I can better shallow my clubs based on this drill. Thank you. Your lessons that I purchased has been great but your tips like this has helped me a ton as I am a classic over the top swinger
Hey Zach! I've been a fan of your content since you were at DeBell. I really like this staircase concept! I'm definitely going to see what it can do for me. Keep up the good work!!!
Zach, today was a very bad day. The reason, I felt, was a disjointed, piecemeal loading and unloading of the swing. I wish I had seen this video before today. What a great visual to see the rotation of the key body parts in that spiral shape. Although you didn't mention it, wouldn't the "through the ball" followed by the follow through use the same logic but without the loading? By that I mean, wouldn't the tape on your knees, hips and shoulder continue on another upward spiral staircase after the strike? It then seems to me the shoulders, hips and knees are a single unit working in connected, but different, angles to load, unload and reload. and not separate, independent parts.
Thanks Zach. I have been a fan for a while now and would like to thank you for making the hardest game in the world a little easier. As always practice makes perfect but your simplicity in explaining the mechanics of golf helps in executing sound fundamentals. Keep it up.
Hey Zach, you should consider putting affiliate links below the video to all the different products you use in your video I bought the arm blaster the other day because I thought that would be perfect for me to work some of your drills
I like this feeling a lot with wedges and mid irons in my hand, but it's so hard to do with the driver. Ball position, spine tilt, the more upright stance, the 'flatter' turn and the feeling to hit up on the ball is killing me. Sometimes it is working on the range and I'm crushing the ball, but I haven't found the feel to repeat it on a consistent basis. Golf is hard 😂
During my takeaway I take it back low and straight back for the 1st foot. I can then feel the "depth" at the top of the swing. Lastly, see that you're not bending your lead arm in an effort to get more turn. Good luck
Doing this drill could definitely help, your swing is too shallow, causing all the thin and topped shots, moving your body in this fashion steepens your turn, and can give you more downward angle of descent.
Zach, today at the range I tried the movement you describe with the simple chair and rope. A definite "V" shaped swing as my right shoulder goes back and up, followed by the same movement on the left shoulder as I struck the ball. My immediate results were very high, very straight and very solid! It really removed my pulls and slices. Drives were also straight but low and long. Someone with me remarked how solidly I strike the ball. It's taking some time to get comfortable in clutch situations, but I will keep working at it. Thanks for the great instructions!
It seems to me that when I swing I must stretch my arms out further, because it I place the ball on the tip of my irons and also out on the end of my driver. I hit the ball very solid. Is this normal?
Zack, I really liked your video but noticed in the start of your transition it looks like you used your legs to squat or sit a little and open up your left knee. Is that right?
Doing the pulling drill, your right elbow moves directly backwards- certainly not a golf move. How do you imitate this motion and prevent the right elbow from going behind you?
This is just unnecessarily complicated. Rotate the torso and the hips WILL follow. Unwind with the hips and the torso will follow, then release the arms.

You are so correct
It you follow the late great Mike Austin, your description of the backswing is spot on his teachings. Very good 👍

This man should have more subscribers. So many trash instructors on UA-cam but Zach is the real deal Holyfield.
Zach - you are one of the best on UA-cam. Thanks for your instruction!

The tape idea is genius, makes it so easy to see what is happening especially if you are watching yourself on video

Hey Zach. Absolutely outstanding video! I am committed to making this "Spiral staircase move." Thank you. 👍😎
Zach. Thank you so very much for explaining this in such a great way that we all can understand this!!
This is excellent! I finally understand what I'm doing wrong.
Mind blowing indeed & thank You so much for imparting 🙏
thanks. Great explanation compared to some of the other pros. like the one about a swivel board under your feet.

I first saw this drill at a long drive clinic with Mike Dunaway in the early 90's so maybe him or his mentor Mike Austin invented this drill.
Perfect drill and advise
Great visual Zach.
The principle works much like the Japanese hand drum, den den daiko. Correct me if I’m wrong but it’s a good feeling for me to get around and thru
Great video Zach 👍🏽
Another great video 👍👍
This is a great video

Hi Zach - How does this relate to Driver, please ? Cheers, Ken, London.

It is such a hard game haha
Zach, I'm a long time fan and subscriber to the Ballstriking Blueprint. I tend to hit a lot of shots thin, even topping a few. Any suggestions?

@@ZachAllenGolf Thanks for the reply, Zach. I'll try the drill.

Yep that’s a great simple way to start down.
Doing the pulling drill, your right elbow moves directly backwards- certainly not a golf move. How do you imitate this motion and prevent the right elbow from going behind you?
Definitely want to be careful to pull from the ground up, not just the trail arm, or else it will be out of position.
this motion makes you actually look like a golfer, its a bit tricky at first but if you can master this, your game will get better.
finally, i'm the first one to press the like button! :)
Rotary Swing has been doing this for ever, check him ourt.
OK
Man at 2:11, his poor turn is the least of his problems - face nappy outdoors…
