We're SUPER excited to experience the Day of the Dead festivities in Oaxaca this year! Last year we went to Aguascalientes for one of the biggest celebrations in the country but we hear that Oaxaca is one of the best places to be.
Oaxaca has very high standards in terms of food, culture and local pride in its treasures. Also, the people! Polite, helpful and easygoing and surprisingly sophisticated. They know how to live. ❤️
My wife and I visited Oaxaca last fall and had a great time. It was just what we were looking for - True Mexican culture. I could see some people from the U.S. not appreciating Oaxaca city. No beach, few gringos, no "gringo-style" hotels, no Taco Bell or Denny's, ultra-capitolism. This is real Mexico. The amount of culture cannot be captured on a 22 min video. I love churches. We took collectivos or inter-city busses to outer cities to see their specialities, eat and chat with locals. The food (tlyudas and molé) are different than we're used to in the states and you just have to enjoy a "market meal".
@@1EQUALS-INFINITY :) I think real Mexico means not much influence from outside Mexico...like no TacoBell or American stuff. My niece in AZ is part Mexican and LOVES Taco Bell and not so much REAL Mexican food. Crazy...
@@1EQUALS-INFINITY - I understand and agree. Mexico is large and diverse. With that said, please understand that most U.S. Citizens think think Taco Bell is typical Mexican food. If we've been to Mexico, it's probably a made-for-tourist area, near Cancun or Cabo. My definition of "real Mexico" is not that.
Hey guys!! You nailed it one more time. I love your narrative and the way you enjoy your Oaxaca experience, it makes us live it with you. I went with my grandma and my brother when I was 12 y/o. We spent almost 2 weeks in. Oaxaca, the whole state. It was really special for me because it was the last time my abuelita could travel. She passed away like 6 or 7 months later. Watching your video it was like being there.........with her. Thanks guys from the bottom of my heart for bringing those memories back. God bless you and keep traveling and enjoying life to the fullest.
I am from Argentina, this country is well know to be like the King of Latinamerican in culture, we love you Mexico, I will be back love you from Buenos Aires, Argentina...
I have lived in Antigua, Guatemala for 3 years. Great place; however, it is getting expensive and the ash, dust and pollution from the buses is too much. I am moving to Oaxaca. Thanks for your great videos.....you have convinced me to go there in all of Mexico.
You’ll love Oaxaca. To be a city, it is a place with a relaxing atmosphere, nice people, great food, a lot of culture and things to do and go at a short distance.
YOU GUYS ROCK!!! KEEP TRAVELING! Much love from Nashville, Tennessee!! Editing is prime. Orating is natural and friendly, YALL ARE SO CUTE! Great Spanish is spoken, which is so rare. Thank you so much for doing this!!
I live in Oaxaca. I’ve counted over 40 “atmospheric” BYOD Coffee places (bring your own Dog), Day Of The Dead with a view from a Balcony in a Mezcal tasting room on the walking street Macedonio Alcala is other Worldly, a simple street Taco lunch at “Tacos Del Carmen” makes a satisfying lunch ... The Stamp Museum, the events and exhibits at the Biblioteca Henestrosa ate worthwhile, the many neighborhood tasting room “nooks” you stumble upon, the daily (especially seasonally) Parades with the outdoor Dance practice sites and Parade Schools to learn Folkloric dancing (Jordan inside a Giant Spinning Puppet?), aerial fireworks displays, Music festivals all night long, small film screening venues, the ancient cities of Mitra and Monte Alban, the exquisite weaving of Teotitlan and rent a “Bici” for the near nightly (9-9:30 PM) mass Bicycle rides through the streets of El Centro in front of Santa Domingo/Brujula ecorted by motorcycle Police and a towed Amp for music leading off the Grouo ride - ending off a a cool Colonial no host bar someplace, maybe an Art museum for kibitzing ... ugh, too much! As an alternative to Air B&B try a Hotel for short or longer residence stay on the walking street “Alcala”, like Hotel Villa de Campo which has 14 garden apartments with, kitchen, Pool featuring daily housecleaning (sheets, towels, soap & shampoo) for about $400 monthly. A good A B&B alternative. The cool Mystic pine-y mountain town of San Jose Del Pacifico, perched above the Pacific Beaches, is 3 hrs by economical Collectivo Vans from Oaxaca Centro (ask a street Info kiosk for directions and a map). Famous for Temescal steam baths , Magic Mushrooms and awesome views. Puerto Escondido (Beaches!) are just below by 4 hr collective shuttle vans. Back/Forth from the Beach to/from Oaxaca (or Mexico City) from the Airports can be made in only 35 min via small 12-passenger Charter planes. Or short-haul regular passenger jets. Amazingly quick and easy. Daily rains are seasonal and not lasting all day - many months go by without a drop of rain or humidity. And here ~ we are “Mandarini’s” - Tang is an Astronaut Beverage. Come back soon!
One of the things I really really enjoy from your videos is how much you enjoy. Thanks a lot for coming to my hometown!! As you could see, there’s a lot more to see. If you’re planing on coming back, I’d like to take you to the town where I work, Zaachila, 20 minutes away from downtown, especially in Easter. You’ll definitely fall in love with people’s hospitality. Día de Muertos is also one of the best seasons to come. Please, let me know. I’ll be so delighted to be your guide. I’m not making my life as a guide by the way. I simply enjoy welcoming people to my town since a lot of people have been so nice to me when I travel abroad and that’s a way to give it back to the life. Please, be welcome. ☺️❤️

Becomes more educational than ever when you speak in español and have subtitles like your Mexico City videos. Plus I had to look up ardilla and abuelita. Your channel teaches me about Mexico, the culture and the language. And I thank you for that...
For Mexican standards, Oaxaca has some of the most honest people. There's less chance of getting scammed or robbed, at least compared to other places in Mexico. Taxi drivers are not exactly little angels (they keep Uber out using literal physical violence) but yeah, they're fairly honest and just do their work without trying to squeeze out money from you.
It did seem like an honest city during our experiences there. That's always a nice environment to be in. Sounds like the cab driver vs. Uber situation is just like what it was in Quintana Roo. We heard cab drivers used to order Ubers just to beat the crap out of the driver. So sad :/ That said, we were pleasantly surprised not to encounter many issues when using taxis in Oaxaca
"GONG THAT BELL!!!" you guys are funny. Not that I only watch your videos to see you gonging the bell, they are very informative and colourful. Good for your guys.
Thank you Tangerines for a great video! Every part of my country of birth has something amazing to offer, Mexico is so culturally rich and beautiful that thanks to people like you we can enjoy thru your eyes💕

Thank you for showing me all the places in Mexico I have to visit. Oaxaca is definitely close to the top of the list. I live in a small town on the Sea of Cortez, the Baja side and it really does get hot in the summer 40+C or above 100 f. Being a desert not much humidity but it's a good time to visit the mountains and cooler areas.
We have a hard time choosing a single favorite state in Mexico since they all have unique differences to know and love. But Oaxaca is definitely up at the top of our list now! :) Thanks for watching, Jaime!
LOVE your videos and YES on the shirt! Going to Mexico City for Dia del Muertos this year (2021) with a couple of friends and I cannot wait! Your Oaxaca videos have made me decide to visit there at some point! Looks like so much to do!
The visual sensation was amazing while watching you walking through those historic zones, I was able to imagine the beautiful street surround center's Oaxaca that you visited, the pictures of your videos is getting better.
OMG...that cathedral is jaw dropping gorgeous (it's amazing how many cathedrals and chapels in Mexico are...it must be nearly impossible to count them let alone dare to try to determine which is most beautiful!). And Oaxaca, one of many beautiful cities. How I wish I could visit...but even if I could it would be so hard for me to choose which one...!!!
Agreed! The more cathedrals we see, the more our jaws drop and we learn to appreciate them more. Mexico has some impressive history, and cathedrals are one of the best displays of it. Hope you get the chance to visit someday :)
@@TangerineTravels Thanks much, TT. I hope I will someday be lucky enough to visit. You've helped to show me in many ways what a marvelous country Mexico truly is.
I am blessed to have one of Señor Manuel Jimenez’s carved and painted animals from almost 40 years ago. We hired a driver to take us to his town, after reading about him in the New York Times, we picked the animal we wanted (giraffe) and the raw wood and went back a week later to get our treasure where he took us in to his little chapel and blessed us. I still have my beautiful turquoise carving, and it does look more primitive than some of the current intricately painted animals I have collected. We stayed at the El Presedente hotel off the Oaxaca square...I understand the old nunnery is no longer a hotel...but it was wonderful to be so close to town. One of my favorite Mexican cities, ever. I agree the food was divine.
Hi from FNQ Australia. I was in Oaxaca about 3 years ago and loved it. As you say the culture and food are very unique to that part of Mexico and it was there that I realized Mexico has such a vast array of cultures, foods, traditions, peoples, arts ect than I'd ever expected. One thing that really did stick out about Oaxaca and that was the NOISE. Apparently nothing special was happening, just normal Oaxaca, but there was some serious noise in that city. Even at the time however I did find it hugely funny. Like being woken up by a brass band walking down the street playing at 5am! Or the relentless fireworks day and night from Iglesia Jalatlaco across the street. Or the milk venders with their cow horns. The list is endless - Loud City. I'm not complaining about the noise, it was just very memorable. - Like the vibrant Colours and beautiful Ventanas of Puebla - an urban photographers paradise. - The endless history and life of Mexico City - could spend months and not see it all. - The clear, calm, warm turquois waters of Playa de Carmen & Mujeures. - The noises and tastes of Oaxaca - The coolness of San Cristobal de las Casas - The humid jungles of Chiapas with their hidden ruins, leaf cutting ants and tropical insect noises. So many memorable places in Mexico, such an amazing country. Love watching your videos guys as it brings so many good memories back.
Nice wrap up on Oaxaca. A long conversation of good and bad and highlights and comparisons to other parts of the country. Seems even more thorough than usual. ty
This was one Sincere Video that Everyone will love, Oaxaca is a Cool Place, Jordan, and Maddie, you both look like you Loved the stay and as Always Gong the Bell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello I was born in México, and it was very nice to hear about your experience in Oaxaca, interesting perspective. It seemed to be an enriching experience. I also liked to read the comments bellow written by a non-mexican audience, it helps to shift my point of view. By the way, I have traveled to many other countries in different continents and I have to admit that one of the most magical experiences that I have had was in Oaxaca(Sierra Mazateca, Cd de Oaxaca, Mazunte, San José del Pacífico etc), altough I haven´t been there since 2006(1st visit 1995); it surely have had a huge change. You helped me to see the present Oaxaca, thank you.
Zocolo was my favorite place to be, that was in the mid 90s, I had tried to live in San Sebastien living in a red clay house with my 17 yr old cat and 11 yr old Rottweiler. The dog died and I took Bugsy to Oaxaca and stayed a month at Hotel Roma just a coupla blocks from the Zoc and that incredible market. Love revisting through your vids. I swear the strongest feeling I had in the city was like being in a Fellini move
I've been there twice. I loved being there twice. Last year I was able to get out of the city and visit surrounding mountain villages. Puerto Vallarta and Mexico city are also very fun to visit.
Better late than never viewing this COOL Vid Maddie and Jordan! The Tule tree, wow estimating its age at 1,500 years places that seed that germinated, grew first into a small, tender sapling, 1,002 years later and the Spanish arrive in Cem Anáhuac(The One World), I'm glad its still alive, kinda like a giant Norfolk Pine here in Querétaro, during the 60s and 70s the municipal authorities would always decorate the huge pine with christmas lights, but either late 70s or early80s the city fathers were concerned it was dying(very few leaves)so analyzing the possible problems turns out the heat from the lights was drying the tree up, fortunately the tree is no longer decorated and its revived itself. Although compared to Grandfather Tule, the Norfolk Pine is a baby! The interior of Santo Domingo is so beautiful, no wonder it took 200 years to finish the church and yeah, the glimpse of the food ya guys got looked so good! As for the tangerine colored t-shirts, like the one Laska was modeling, YES, make some the 3 T's, really AWESOME! :D
Wow! I visited the "Arbol del Tule" about 20 years ago and the whole area looks better than before. Would love to go back...if just for the people and the food...and Mezcal!
Tangerines Thanks for showing my state. I born in Oaxaca witch I’m proud of that. But My ancestors belong to Veracruz. But Proudly to be Oaxaqueño. 👍 And yes. Tortilla oaxaqueña is the best of all country.
*My mother is from Oaxaca and I love the state and City, what Oaxaca lacks in material goods and prosperity of other states no state can equal its vast richness of cultural, crafts, history and food heritage, it's a banquet for food lovers and photographers that love colors and shapes*
Great video again! Just returned from Oaxaca City and loved it too. Was there 6 days and tried some of the places you recommended (the gluten free place was great!) and did a few day trips. Thanks for all the insights. I will be back and recommend to others! Mexico City and Puerto Morelos in November are next!
Lola L What I did was to spend Christmas Eve and a couple of extra days in Oaxaca. Then i went to Huatulco for another two days. It was a great experience. Oaxaca has more sightings than Huatulco, which is nice beach town.
Great video. You never said if you would want to live there. I'm moving to Hualtuco in a few months and definitely plan on visiting Oaxaca. Thanks for sharing
Vivian- How did you like Huatulco? When are you moving? Assume you found it thru Cindy & Fred, whom I watch too. Would love to know more as I've not been to Huatulco yet. Thanks!
Currently on holiday in Costa Mujeres. Traveled up and down the coast a few times by car. Always looking out for the Tangerine tastic car. Would love to see you guys out and about so I can thank you in person for all your hard work and great advice. Have a happy Mexican Independence Day. Best wishes for your future travels. Give Laska a hug from me.
I want to live in that tree lol. Another super informative & fun video. I am planning to move to Mexico & thought Rosarito but have changed my mind to Oaxaca thanks to you & 1 other UA-camr. Good Job
Arleysi - thanks so much! Hope you had a great time there. Howard - In my opinion, Ajijic and Chapala both have their Mexico charm. Sure there are _lots_ of expats, but the Mexican culture is alive and well. We were totally expecting a big retirement community and hardly any Mexicans living there but it still seemed like a good mix. ~M
Remember, the liking for somes special flavors you can got it only if you taste it several times. Like hutlacoche, chapulines, pancita, pulque, jumiles, mole, escamoles. Oaxaca is a country into other... its flavors only are in that State. I love your channel.
Hello, have followed your travels for a while. loved this vid as always both, thanks. I am going to Oaxaca to try living, nervous and excited. I wish to open a kung fu school there :)
You really need, need check-in and visit Zipolite, Mazunte, Puerto Escondido, Hierve el agua, and many places of Oaxaca. It's really beautiful my state!!!
Thx, you guys are great ! Tule de arbol is great. Next time you are down there if you could hit zaachila it would be great. Also maybe you can mention Monte Alban... I understand tho, there’s so much going on in Oaxaca....love the shirt!
Oaxaca is well known for being the best place to experience the real ancestral Mexico as most of tradition has been kept, and you can notice every where and every way, that's why Oaxaca is so unique, food, handcrafts, holidays and so on are great; be welcome the whole world to get to know this magic and amazing place called Oaxaca 😁👌😎💯👍
Almost everyone who visits Oaxaca falls in love with it. You pretty much covered it all. Great walking, some of the best food in Mexico. And yes, Mexicans come out and enjoy life after the gringos go to bed. It's a country of night people.
Maddy & Jordan, Great review! I, for one, would love to read both of your honest thoughts about your (housing) stay and host in Oaxaca Centro. That would help me a lot to pick the right place to stay.
You have to visit Huatulco, Oaxaca. 😍😍😍 I went with my family last year and it was simply magical. Stayed at the Dreams resort but all the activities and sites and foods are amazing.
I have yet to visit there, but Oaxaca is on our list. It looks beautiful! IMO, the playas are overlooked as they take some effort and time to reach. Also, some of them are more geared toward surfing than casual sunbathing and swimming. The drive/ bus ride is through rugged terrain (I have read many accounts suggesting Dramamine for the trip). Flights are quick. With calmer beach options there too, there is something for everyone. Also, see Chris Smith's comments below for actual first-hand answers to your questions!
I was born in Mexico City but I have lived in the Midwest for over 45 years, I would like to spend the winters in midsized city like Oaxaca once this pandemic behind us. I would be a great way to get reacquainted with my culture.
My husband and I are going to be traveling in Mexico for an extended period of time (longer than 6 months) and need some direction in WHERE DO WE BEGIN with our process???? Do we begin at the local Mexican Consulate? We are near Tucson, can you recommend an attorney to help with our process of entrance to Mexico? So many question, so little time. We are looking at possibly 6 - 9 months before we want to head south. Love your videos!!!

Good to see video! In Oaxaca the indigenous people there are artisans, pottery, etc. Some USA & Worldwide businesses import these handicrafts. Consequently the merchandise buyers do sometimes travel there, & tourists will visit there! So parts of Oaxaca are touristy, at certain times, or always?
Great job introducing everyone to this fabulous city! Also birthplace of Benito Juarez, Matias Romero, and Porfirio Diaz. You could do another whole video just on the history.

We will be there :)
@@TangerineTravels Where, may I ask? I plan to be in Ciudad de Mexico :-).
Tangerine Travels come to my hometown. I’ll guide you to the deepest traditions. I really wanna share my culture with you.
The best State of Mexico! Saludos desde Oaxaca!
Wow I'm from Oaxaca and glad to hear you like our culture and people
😍😍😍
- The noises and tastes of Oaxaca
- The coolness of San Cristobal de las Casas
- The humid jungles of Chiapas with their hidden ruins, leaf cutting ants and tropical insect noises.
So many memorable places in Mexico, such an amazing country.
Love watching your videos guys as it brings so many good memories back.
Thank you for the little poem
@@lolal2502 - Hahaha (Jajaja) I'm a Poet and didn't Know it. :)
Nice wrap up on Oaxaca. A long conversation of good and bad and highlights and comparisons to other parts of the country. Seems even more thorough than usual. ty
Wishing we went inside Templo de Santo Domingo when we were there - looks amazing!
I live close to el tule and you guys still have a lot to know from the central valleys of Oaxaca
Hope more tourists come with your videos
I've been there twice. I loved being there twice. Last year I was able to get out of the city and visit surrounding mountain villages. Puerto Vallarta and Mexico city are also very fun to visit.
Hope you move to Oaxaca someday. Great video!
Thanks, Tam! If we did, I'm sure we'd really enjoy living there :)
Hey guys ☝️ Thanks for sharing again another exciting video... enjoyed seeing Laska 🐶 as well..... lookin forward to the next one ... Peace ✌️
I visited Oaxaca 40 years ago and thought most beautiful place I hD ever seen.
I appreciate that you look into the history of the places/foods. Keep up the good work.
The museum next to Santo Domingo is beautiful, that is a must.
Tangerines
Thanks for showing my state.
I born in Oaxaca witch I’m proud of that. But My ancestors belong to Veracruz. But
Proudly to be Oaxaqueño. 👍
And yes.
I just came back was there from 09-09 to 09-12 and I visited most of the same places it was amazing, Casa Taviche def a must go to place
Christmas is also a beautiful experience in Oaxaca. You should really try it.
I am debating between spending Christmas in Huatulco/Oaxaca or Mexico city. What would you recommend?
Lola L What I did was to spend Christmas Eve and a couple of extra days in Oaxaca. Then i went to Huatulco for another two days. It was a great experience. Oaxaca has more sightings than Huatulco, which is nice beach town.
Great video. You never said if you would want to live there. I'm moving to Hualtuco in a few months and definitely plan on visiting Oaxaca. Thanks for sharing
I asked Jordan way too many rapid fire questions at first lol. For me, YES! Absolutely I’d live in Oaxaca City
Vivian Steers isn’t this where utuber Retire in Mexico”is? Tell me briefly why Hualtuco? I assume you must of been there once or twice.
I’m looking into Manzanilla in a few months.
Vivian- How did you like Huatulco? When are you moving? Assume you found it thru Cindy & Fred, whom I watch too. Would love to know more as I've not been to Huatulco yet. Thanks!
@@deejaye2647 I'm moving April 5 will be going to visit in Nov or Dec. Yes I found it through Retire in Mexico Now

Next time you’re in Oaxaca go to the Sunday market in Tlacolula!
This sounded like so much fun !!!!! Thank you so much 🥰
We had so much fun in Oaxaca! Thanks for watching :)
I want to live in that tree lol. Another super informative & fun video. I am planning to move to Mexico & thought Rosarito but have changed my mind to Oaxaca thanks to you & 1 other UA-camr. Good Job
That breakfast bowl you showed looked so amazing and has me all kinds of hungry 👍🏼
That’s my struggle when editing videos with lots of food in them 😆😋
I went to Chapala and Ajijic last week and I've met some fan of yours down there. Love you guys!
arleysi so did you think these two places are too Americanized?that you don’t get the true feel of Mexican culture??
Good luck!
Love you guys ... Just be careful where ever you go plz ... 🤗 Even so it seems you two already got the hangout of how things work in Mexico ..
Almost everyone who visits Oaxaca falls in love with it. You pretty much covered it all. Great walking, some of the best food in Mexico. And yes, Mexicans come out and enjoy life after the gringos go to bed. It's a country of night people.
Great video! Thanks for showing us lovely Oaxaca!!!
You are from Mexico
Maddy & Jordan,
Great review!
I, for one, would love to read both of your honest thoughts about your (housing) stay and host in Oaxaca Centro. That would help me a lot to pick the right place to stay.
If it's been around for 1,400 years, a minor drought in the '90s is nothing.. It's been there, done that.
Cute shirt....love you guys
I miss Mexico so much.....Oh and the sodas like Coke...has way more sugar than in the U.S.
¡Qué chido! Me encantan sus videos ☺️
Cien mil subs, que bueno, felizidades!
You have to visit Huatulco, Oaxaca. 😍😍😍 I went with my family last year and it was simply magical. Stayed at the Dreams resort but all the activities and sites and foods are amazing.
Oaxaca looks alluring in many ways. The cities and food have me considering an option for retirement. I’m curious about the playas?
Paul Chavez the playas are gorgeous! Often overlooked by other tourist beach spots, but definitely the location to go
I have yet to visit there, but Oaxaca is on our list.
Keiko Fay thanks for you insights.
Visit Puerto escondido ... we have greats beaches. The better ones.
Great job! Terrific quality!
I was born in Mexico City but I have lived in the Midwest for over 45 years, I would like to spend the winters in midsized city like Oaxaca once this pandemic behind us. I would be a great way to get reacquainted with my culture.
At 9:53 The red headed lady in the coral sweater looks like Cindy from Cindy and Fred "Retire in Mexico" who live in Oaxaca.

I love your channel I will be moving to Merida this fall.
Enjoyed your observations on Oaxaca. I haven't been there in about 30 years so seeing the sights and scenes brings back great memories. Where's your beautiful dog?
Visited Oaxaca a few years ago and loved it. Thanks for the memories. Good to see they're still firing off firecackers all day 😄
Wow, amazing video clarity .
You've sold me on Oaxaca. I hope you guys decide to move there for a few months and really get to know the area.
I will be in Oaxaca City in Jan. 2020. Looking forward to it!
Yay, Oaxaca!
Hey Guys, can't wait until we get to Puerto Morelos in Dec. Will definitely look you guys up and take you to Dinner. Great information guys .....You Rock!
we are in mexico at the moment in mexico city just got back from Oaxaca and wow we love Oaxaca its amazing would love to do some videos with you 2 in mexico
Find me a place Tangerines in Oaxaca to live..I know youre thinking it too...its either there or SMA for me..".I cant handle the 500% humidity"..Maddie is so cute...haha...way to have fun together guys!! The only place along the coast where you feel ok is when youre in the water..so I agree with Maddie...its Colonial vs Coastal for me....There has got to be a nice sized building needing renovation....with all the artisans and talavera tile etc...it would be a nice project.OK..food for thought great vid~gong gong
!Viva Oaxaca!
You guys are a great team You GO GIRL l you are the driver who has a great co-pilot
I want to go to Oaxaca 😢♥️
Thank you guys.
