I think Hodel, being a life-long investigator, did a tremendous job in his book, supporting his argument with documentation. I believe that it was written, not only as a narrative to convince the reader that he's solved the case, but also as a theraputic journey through several painful epiphanies. What person, especially a police officer, would want to come to the conclusion that their father was a murderer? That lends a lot of credibility to his case.

She really was beautiful. It's sad that she became more famous when she was dead than when she was alive.

This film is so freakin' stylish I love it, even though the storytelling might be weird. But I don't think it's fair that this movie is torn apart by so many haters...I really enjoyed it, even watched it several times in the movie theatre.

I chose to research this case for a law assignment, pretty heavy stuff, the reason the case wasn't solved was because reporters would obstruct justice, they'd answer phones at detectives desks and withhold the information they learned from the police, also the fact that the reporters would also be the first ones to the scenes, trampling evidence; not to mention stealing evidence too

Once upon a time in Hollywood, lived a beautiful girl, all she ever wanted was to be famous, she became famous, she became... infamous. Elizabeth Short, "The Black Dahlia". Smile, everyone's watching.

Although the Hollywood rendition is a fictional film this theme I think should not keep people from being cautious. Cautious does not mean to not take action rather but to question the actions that some take for granted. Pointing at the internet and blaming cyberspace I think is a wasted spending of time as
what is digital... is a Safe Space. A proverbial shield from all the burns.
A sedentary utopia for sharing honest kindness and thinking freely.
Although there is a lot more good in the world than bad (so I desire to believe),
it is annoying that 5 bad things can have 100 Good things questioned.
I've been told before verbally " I will see what I can do " and suddenly am muted.
" We are here to help " sometimes can mean " Until I make it you don't. "
Trustworthiness is more valuable than diamond or any valued stone
I think one reason I stay happy is considering the good (which there is much)
and the bad like the thing that leads some people to end up like in this movie
(based on true events) is about " timing " and honestly following guidance.
" LA Blues " is an understatement for the " Collateral " paid if a guess is wrong.
Happy Good and Peaceful Disposition is the alternative & there is no shortage of " Good Ending " stories for the (to me) very " Bad Ending " this film shares...
Yet for every " Taken " there at least 10 Kaleido Stars (times 12 =3) So...
Not being " Dreary " -- simply sharing being cautious is as important as being
persistent, determined or passionate. There are good people all around. It's avoiding the cruelly bad people that allows continued cheers and celebration.
Not everything is bad. This movie was good at showing how bad truly bad really is. In music, in video games, in movies like this one... is where Ms. Short should stay. In a world so full of good why do some choose to hurt others? =S Paranoid is not the word for being cautious. Enjoy Life but be cautious. -F.I.L.,
    -BAM! P.E.F. WAM! DJ, TIGER M! ^_~*

I'm watching Unsolved Mysteries and they were talking about the Black Dahlia. They said that she was subject to medical experiments hours before she had been killed. The person who killed her was supposedly a serial killer called "The Chest Stabber" in New Jersey. But how could that be? The original convict was a medical student who then commited himself to a mental hospital. Could it be that he was an accomplice? Or was the Jersey Chest Stabber a completely independent entity? O.o Spooky!

Exactly! I'm a huge true crime buff, so when I saw the trailor for this movie, I knew I HAD to see it. I snuck into it on my birthday and I was so dissapointed. The Black Dahlia was a minor subplot and the movie was all about those two damn cops. I was so glad I didn't pay anything to see it.

Keep in mind that he was retired at the time and therefore a civilian. Their opinions, when not sanctioned by a police department, mean little or nothing. Also remember that being a civilian, were he correct, he would put to shame all of the detectives that had worked on the case before him because he solved the case without the privellege that goes with the badge. I say read the book and draw your own conclusion, but why would he want to be known as the son of a murderer (or serial killer)?

This film was BASED on the black dahlia murder. It's not entirely accurate beacause it wasn't supposed to be. It takes the basic concept of the murder, and adapts it to suit the film.
It would have been a far weeker film had it been left without a killer. In fact, making the killer who it was, gave the film quite a good twist.

I love this trailer....Unfortunately I hated the movie. For anyone who is interested in The Black Dahlia mystery...you will be very disappointed. The movie is based on James Ellroy's novel of the same name. He used Elizabeth Short's death and added it into a fictional story line. The movie shouldn't even have been called The Black Dahlia...the murder and events surrounding the investigation occur 30 mintues into the film after a confusing and strange introduction of the main characters.

interesting movie,, but i was so lost half way through it i didnt`know what was going on. It starts out as a boxing movie, then a shoot out at the same time the girl is discovered. Then he accidentaly meets one of the killers,, names thrown around,, i couldn`t keep track of who was who, or who was the good guys or bad guys. Very convoluted story line. Scarlett Johanssen stars out as a main character then dissappears for half the movie. What a mess.

Wasn't a bad film. It is hard to adapt a film off of one of Ellroys novels. L.A. Confidential was once in a lifetime kind of thing and I don't think that anyone could adapt another one of his novels with an equal amount of success. It doesn't sound like the White Jazz adaption is going to go very well and I would be happy to see it work but I think it is unlikely.

Honestly, a lot of people are killed all over the globe and never caught their killers. I think Hollywood give serial killers the fame they need to feel rectified. However, I do watch movies about serial killers and study them. This is slightly hypocritical , but they could at least honor the victims. She got famous for all the wrong reasons. The least they could do is actually tell her story . This is an awfully acted ridiculous soap opera pretty much.
