Hi Dani It’s really satisfying to watch my seedlings grow especially when they bloom for the first time. I have learned a lot from your videos! Thank you for the time you spend making them.
Patience! Thanks for the video and helping me to not give up on my three seedlings. Mine are about a year and a half years old. One Vanda and two kittens! I've had them for just over a year now and them are growing, but slowly! Patience! 😍
I put all my seedlings in my new ikea cabinet. My bird kept attacking my plants. I tell him no and he turns around making baby bird noises at me. I think he still thinks he’s a baby. He’s just so cute!
Hi Danni, I was on the Big Island of Hawaii 2 years ago at Akatsuka Orchids in Volcano, Hawaii and purchased a flask of 5 cattleya orchids. Followed directions they came with and placed them in a mixture of small lava rock mixed with sphagnum moss in 2 1/2” plastic pots. They seem to be doing well. 😀
Just purchased my first seedling, set to arrive as soon as today. What a timely video! It's an Onc. Heaven Scent Redolence! On that note, I just purchased a Maxi. Tenuifolia as well and would love an update on yours and some care tips!
Hi Danny, you are so tempting me when I pass the Orchid section of my local big box store! Sometimes I manage not to buy one, sometimes I don't 😁 love your videos and hugs from Shetland xxx
I enjoyed todays subject. I just purchased my first two bag baby. The first one was a little older than the second one I purchased a few weeks later. The second orchid is much smaller and is a cattleya. While the first one is in the same family but is a Brassavola hybrid.
I seem to learn something new every day, because I had no idea that orchids can produce seeds, I thought their only way of reproducing was through keikis (and I have been growing Phalaenopsis for 6 years total, for 3 years with my first Phalaenopsis, which my cat knocked off of the windowsill and it landed so badly on the floor that it had very bad wounds and died and now I have 3 Phalaenopsis plants that started off from just one, but it started making keikis and the "mother"plant is about to start flowering, the first one should open in a couple days). For me, orchids are like a hobby or caring for a pet, I inspect them every day and give them a very close inspection when I water them (that's where I check every leaf and flower spike and the roots, as much as I can see them through the pot, to notice new growths and possible infection or parasite on time). My keikis are about 1 year old (I'm counting their "age" from the time when I first noticed them on the "motherplant", not from the time, when I separated them and they are doing fine, one is growing a nice flower spike and it already has 4 flowerbuds on it (tiny, but there), the other keiki was growing a flower spike during the winter, but then I guess I watered it on the wrong time and then it felt insulted and the flower spike just died, now it's growing new leaves and roots like crazy. Seeing my Phalaenopsis growing so quickly and big keeps me in the hobby and making me want even more orchids (well, different species, like Miltonias or Dendrobiums).
Danny, why do you want to be so good at what you do? (Insert sarcasm/joking here) But in all seriousness, I am so thankful for your posts. I am definitely a beginner, but I binge watch your videos. I’m so glad we have you to turn to. I also love to see your personality come out, along with tidbits about you. Maybe silly, but I love to learn anything about you I can. Keep doing your orchid business, we love you!
As always another excellent video! Thank you for all of the information you pass on to your viewers. I recommend your site to everyone I talk to that are starting out growing, and to those that are experienced Growers. BTW, I would actually love to see a picture of you someday and know what the person behind the voice looks like! 😃
Waiting for some new pots from rePotme Orchid supplies to change out 4 of my babies!! Love your videos! So helpful for reviews even tho I've been doing this for 30 years! I always learn something new!!! xoxo
ooft i received some seedlings recently which had obviously been 'grown' (tortured) in full sun 😯 it was physically painful to see them for the first time 😥😥
Paula from Mexico. I looked up the article you had linked on the previous video on potassium. I think my plant need more potassium. Yellowing lower leaves, too many of them. I use the MSU fertilizer in rain water, I collect myself. What is a good source of a little more potassium or maybe I don’t use enough of the MSU??? I use the measuring cup that comes w/it per gallon of water.
Hi MissOrchidGirl! I have a question for you. One of my phals is starting to produce a leaf.... while she is still creating another leaf! So the question is: can phals produce simultanously two leaves? Is it normal? Did you experience this situation? Thanks!
Hello, I bought Habenaria Radiata seeds online. I put the seeds were plastic surface sterilized with one percent sodium hypochlorite for ten minutes and then rinsed three times with sterilized water and left it on a shaded area. I don't know if I need to add a medium for it to germinate as it is only seeds that was delivered to me.
Hi Danny. My Rnda Sunrise Prasong was a seedling. Started in leca and babied the little guy by tenting every night for its' first month. Three years later is three times its' original size (which isn't hard since it was so tiny) and still haven't flowered yet. The nursery has said five years so... Maybe an additional year because of red spider mites.
Hi Danny! I recently got some orchids from my mom (she couldn't take care of them any more), and I noticed something strange. One of them has yellowish green leaves (all three of them), and I thought that it will die. A month and a half ago, it grew a flower stem, and now it has 11 amazing looking flowers on it, but the leaves still look deadish. Is there something that I should do, or should I just let it go into vegetative gtowth stage, and "fix" itself? Thanks a bunch! ❤
Ok, so I’ve recent bought a vanda seedling and I’ve potted it just in orchid bark and I’ve just noticed that I’ve managed to give it a nasty sun burn even tho it only gets morning sun, help how do i take care of it and nurse it back to health?
I'm new in the orchids growing club, I already bought some after I was gifted a couple of them. I want to buy some more seedling, but I'm scared due to the fact that some of them are just people that want to cheat you. Do you have a place that you can recomend, where I can obtain some?, will really appreciate any help, I dont have a lot of money to use, so I have to be very careful of what I get. Thanks so much for your help!
Hey dani i am very worried about my orchid she is not doing well my orchid has falling buds that are red and the leaves are starting to become yellow what should i do?!?!?!?!
You just need to mix one part of hydrogen peroxide 9% and two parts of water (you had better using water with small amount of salt, like rain water, osmosis water etc.). Mix 100ml of hydrogen peroxide 9% and 200ml of water to get 300ml of hydrogen peroxide 3%. Mix 200ml of hydrogen peroxide 9% and 400ml of water to get 600ml of hydrogen peroxide 3% etc.
May I suggest Stephen Van Kampen-Lewis? He's on UA-cam as well and lives in Austin, TX. I know it's east, south-east of Midland, but he may have some pretty useful tips. He's also an AOS judge and has been growing orchids for quite some time. Happy growing 😊

At one time I was growing over 350 orchids. I had grown orchids for years and years.

Oh no! Yep each setback adds a year or so to the waiting tome ☹️

Can catasetum orchids withstand Texas temperatures? I live in Midland, Texas and sometimes we get temperatures of 110 F.
