When I started watching this show months back, I was surprised by the depth given to the relationships between the characters. All the characters by themselves are pretty basic and simple, but the way they play off each other and how they learn lessons about being friendly with other is complex and interesting. The lessons are often developed from situations where the lesson the audience is suppose to learn isn't super obvious which the experience watching like you are learning along with the characters. It's good writing that most shows, even those aimed at adults, have a hard time doing well at.

    • @TheEternalSamurai

I agree! What made the show so amazing is because you felt like you were on a journey with the characters. You could feel with them and learn a life lesson along with them.

TLDR it's fun and doesn't feel dumbed down much, just a little bit in season 1. It's like most sitcom shows but with more heart than a lot of them.
The good writing sets it apart from the kids shows that aim only to write for kids.

Also it should be mentioned that the amount of detail there is in the backstories of the characters is staggering for this kind of show. These are not cookie cutter characters.

I'm so happy that I'm not alone with my feelings towards the show. I'm 16 and I get so insecure about sharing my passion for mlp, all because a lot of people called me childish and immature for liking it... I only started sharing my feelings towards it because my best male friend told me he really liked the show. I remember feeling so seen and safe, being able to share what I love with someone else is something I was never able to do. I agree. The show have good stories and three dimensional characters, and relatable situations despite being set in a magical fantasy setting. They have something for everyone, the kids can enjoy the moment to moment actions and shenanigans, while more grown-up people could enjoy its depth in both characters themselves and how they interact and riff off of each other. It's a show I hold close to my heart. It's helped a lot of people, including myself, and I'm glad to hear it left an impact on you too. I watched the show for the 1st time when i was 7yrs old at the time but then re-watch it when i turned 15 i think. I actually appreciated the show more as an adult (currently 19 rn). Sure the thought of "friendship is magic" does sound like cliche and childish i cant argue with that. But if u actually take it seriously and start applying it irl friendship does makes you go far in life. You have supporters, another family to feel belong to, people that actually inspire you to be a better person which is what mlp really showed me that yes if u have real friends u can be successful and be happy at the same time.

I barely watched the show, actually, I remember only watching the very first episode with my former cousin, as she was a big fan of animated shows; My Little Pony was no exception. I never really gave it a shot since I thought it wasn't the series for me. But that first episode made me appreciate it because it was genuinely good. My girlfriend is actually a fan of the show as well, and we actually watched one of the later episodes together (where three of the past villains come together) and I found it really good as well. The point is, that experience and this video made me realize that the things we love can change us. They can remind us that life is beautiful and everyone deserves to be happy. You know what makes us happy? Friends. They love you and respect no matter what, and that is beautiful. Great video Samic. Eternal for Life.

Yes. This show does indeed have a healing power that I can’t begin to understand.
I’ve heard so many stories on how this show, including EQG has helped people with their problems. Anger management, being kind, open minded, rescuing people who considered suicide (which is something I almost did) and so many other things.
For me personally, it’s made me believe that the _Magic of Friendship_ is indeed real. It’s helped me find my faith, be more moral, and overall be a better human being. And I mean every word in this comment. Even when I have a bad day it’s helped.
So thank you Lauren Faust, thank you for having the brilliant idea for this. Even though I don’t have friends, again it’s still inspired me to be a better human being.

2:15 - You find out later that Twilight was ridiculed when she was a filly because of her inability to control her magic (this isn't spelled out, but it's very much implied). It used to be unstable, to the point where a shock could awaken it and cause major damage. So Celestia took her to be trained in order to control it, so that didn't happen. This is why Twilight had difficulty making friends when growing up.

I've only been a brony for 1 year and 3/4, but the amount of things this show has done for me is magical. While I wasn't dealing with something as terrible as depression, the development I've had as a person with my own personal motivations, goals, and just how I look at life has really changed thanks to the show. It's shown me the importance of passion, uniqueness, heart, and emotion, inspired me to finally start creating stories, get passionate about music, and give me the belief that what I want to do in life can AND WILL eventually happen. The amount of times I've cried (in the good way) due to this show is unbelievable to, I swear. I'm actually curious if you cried during the finale, because I definitely did. I'm seeing people talking about seeing the show a few months back when I literally grew up with it and until it "ended" (g4, which it didn't, hasbro are trolling) it was the only thing keeping me alive. also if it wasn't for my little pony g4 then I would have 0% chance at making any friends because for some reason when I was younger I couldn't take a hint when people didn't like me. for example, I would see people in my "friend group" walking together and in my mind I thought that I should follow them and do that, and then they'd do this thing where they walk off in different directions leaving me standing there having to pick someone and then the rest of them would hang out and that person that I picked would have to put up with me for an hour. the fact that this happened multiple times and yet I didn't realise until later that, you know, they probably don't like you.

Been a fan of the show since, I think, Season 2's premier, when a bunch of memes and some shockingly awesome artwork was making the rounds in full force. I had first watched it halfway ironically but also partially to give it a sliver of a chance, expecting something cheesy but ultimately harmless. What I got, instead, was quite the fun show that knew exactly what it wanted to be, that had a good balance of adventure and slice-of-life, and had some great moments both sentimental and theatrical.
Maybe it was due to the point in my life I was in (having finally moved out of my parent's place and starting to deal with the pressures of adulthood, as well as slowly losing my desire to engage with my hobbies, especially creative works), but it most certainly came at the perfect time for me and lifted me out of a funk that might have become something worse down the line. It wasn't just a silly, simple horse cartoon of goody-two-shoe characters singing songs about friendship and all is right in the world. To me, at least, it ended up being far more that what I assumed. It was a story about a group of found friends, who grow up in a rapidly changing world, go through highs and lows, trials and tribulations, meet friends and enemies, and show that, even if things don't go the way you want them to, things can get better, especially if you're willing to put in effort as well as rely on those you care about and that care about you... A story that just happened to be about silly horse people, whom all had a lot more character and depth to them than what their initial surface level appearance would have you believe.
I think one of my favorite things about the show, aside from just being genuinely and earnestly good and pleasant, is how much it ended up inspiring me (and many, MANY other people out there). I actually managed to print a book because of it. Ok, sure, it's just a fanfiction I wrote from December 2012 to March 2018, but it's something I hold near and dear for everything that it represents to me. The fact that I made something that personal and somewhat monumental in my little world, despite my doubts and own issues, is proof of an accomplishment that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Just... bless this little show about the funny equines.
