Hi Pat, I was surprised to hear the number of 500 million UA-cam channels? How many of them are active? Because don't all UA-cam accounts officially count as a channel even if they don't upload a clip to it?

What about Garyvee that shares in his Podcast some keynote or interview audio? It doesn't seems to affect the "experience". The only thing I hate on a interview is that he is the only one using mic
Since this video, are you aware of anyone creating software for podcasting that is more in line with UA-cam's platform -- in regard to algorithms, analytics, etc.?
I have been binge-watching a lot of your videos. They have been very informative and helpful. I've been a UA-camr for about 3 years now. And our channel has done moderately well. As of this week I'm a podcaster. Starting the podcast The Strange has been a lot easier with your help. Thank you
Loved this. I just started my podcast this year because I love being able to just pull out my mic and speak without having to have the lighting and camera and all that for video, plus I am camera shy, I can do it of course but the purity of my message doesn't come through as strong. I LOVE podcasting and I am excited to see where it goes by the end of the year!
Great video Pat! I use both platforms and I started back in 2009 - things were much simpler back then. Just an FYI - you can LIVE STREAM your podcast with Spreaker. It's a really cool platform and even with the mobile app you can add intros, outros, background music and sound effects while you are live. Rob Greenlee is the go-to guy for Spreaker. btw - can't wait to see you again when you come to Philly for Podcast Movement. This time you will be coming to my town 😄
Thank you for all you do. I’m a Certified Transformational Life Coach and My daughter is a Certified Fitness Coach. We want to start either a podcast or UA-cam channel to share what we know, help people, and grow our businesses. We trying to decide which way to go. This (as all your other content) was so helpful. A million thanks! 🙏🏽
This was such a weird perfect timing thing for me, ive been considering whether to start a podcast or a second youtube channel for my social media consulting business and this really helped me decide. A channel it is! i think it makes much more sense re: engagement, live streams, and giving visual guides on tools etc.
MATTJ DISTRIBUTORS the channel I have now, is more of a travel niche channel. I didn't start taking it seriously until about a year ago, but it's finally starting to hit an upward trajectory on growth. It definitely takes a lot of work though
It would be great to see you doing a live stream teaching us more on podcasting (starting a podcast, building an audience, and the best format structure). You're such a natural on camera. You almost couldn't tell it was a live stream.
Pat, clearly, I listened to this way beyond your contest question, but I can tell you this. I have chosen Podcasting. I am ready to launch, working on interviewing high-performance people. I am going to record the sessions of my "talking head" so that I can syndicate it on UA-cam. Phase two will be to included video of both ends of the conversation. I am still mastering the audio and podcast first. I consume BOTH your UA-cam and Podcast content.
Great info Pat! This helped me realize why "syndicating" my podcast on UA-cam isn't really working and why I need to create more unique content to see UA-cam fly. Would love more info on creating cross platform content or how to fix the problems with each channel you identified here like how to improve podcast engagement or UA-cam consumption. Started with and still love your podcast too btw
Hey Pat, really great content. I started with UA-cam in 2011. Now I will start with podcasting, too. I stumpled upon your channel a serveral times. Now is the time to subscribe to your channel. :-) Keep up the great work, Matthias
This video is so very helpful! Thank you. I really want to start podcasting. I am a student journalist and love the idea of storytelling so I believe podcasting will be the perfect platform for me, at least to start.
Excellent video and analysis. I think the fact that there is 1000 times more competition on UA-cam clinches it for me. Podcasting is where my efforts will start.
I'm eating your videos up right and left after interview with Jasmine Star. I always knew you were spot on and watched a few in the past (and went on your informative free webinar). But listening to you on Jasmine's podcast? Just made the reality of being on other people's podcast so powerful! My hang up on that....I need to step out of the fear bubble to make the ask. I love podcasting and could record every week with just my voice....but...I want it to grow too. I say all that to say...thank you for being so relevant and giving such value out on each video here.
Thanks Theresa! Let me just ask, what’s a bigger fear, someone saying “not at the moment” of you ask, or years down the road wishing you had done it sooner? The worst than could happen is nothing compared to the best that can happen if you step outside that zone of comfort. You got this! And if you know you have something helpful to share, it’s your obligation to go out and spread that message. Your fear could get in the way of helping people, and that’s the one thing I think about all the time that keeps pushing me forward.
@@patflynn Wow. I screen shot that answer! I did step out and ask four influencers. One said they loved the video ask and will send it to big name, another said ask us in the spring and another ignored me. I’m fine with that. So I’m getting it Pat. But what you wrote here has lit a fire in my heart. I know I bring value as I teach women to find their voice seeing transformation in my membership group. So I’ll lead the way with mine! Thank you thank you Pat for taking the time to really be a fire starter for me! So glad Jasmine had YOU on her podcast. I’m getting it.... the picture with templates and email to talk to my flock!!!
very good and informative stuff. Subscribed 👍 Was on the fence between podcast and youtube, this video helped to clear out it for me. It was kind of clear that youtube is more time consuming and it is not a smart move to start both, but was very good to hear that from someone else :) Going to start a podcast first.
I am just starting, I have a UA-cam channel and then someone told me about podcast. After listening to you, it seems that UA-cam is the way to go, but then again, podcast seems easier...
Hey Pat! Thanks for the awesome informative video! I'd love to see, and I think it answers a question that a lot of people don't know they need to know/are asking, the pro's and cons of a Facebook Page vs a Facebook Group.
Very timely Pat. I was weighing up which route to go because I love 'playing' with video but I think the learning curve to cut through is a lot steeper. On the flip-side I enjoy the batch-processing nature podcasts offer. Replay answer: this format is super Pat. Perhaps live video versus recorded video comparison? #TeamFlynn
Hi Ryan. You can record your audio podcast using video and export the audio for editing. By doing this, you will be able to create podcasts while at the same time recording video for you to practice on. Now, since you're focus is on podcasts, you can reduce the learning curve of videos by taking a week or two to practice doing a single editing function that you need to learn for the videos. Remember that in learning anything, if you divide it, you can conquer it without feeling like a confused idiot which is the human response to the information overload that our modern educational system uses. It's most likely the reason that standardized tests continue to decline.Children are being overloaded with information in an attempt to obtain good standardized test scores, rather than being taught to learn.
I'm listening to the replay and I think I've confirmed that a podcast will be the best starting point for me right now, although I do plan to incorporate some form of video for future webinars. A new UA-cam channel may come later-AFTER I've developed and launched my podcast. Thanks for all you do!
Hi Pat, would you recommend creating two YT channels, one of them dedicated to just podcast episodes? If yes, does it matter which channel gets created first (for example, the one created first becomes your primary channel and it can’t be changed later on)? I really like your videos, I’m learning so much. Thank you!!
Love the video, I’m not sure it’s a fair comparison though between the two because they are different mediums that appeal to different kinds of people in general. I would also say that it is highly subjective and ultimately a personal choice in the end. It’s blatantly obvious that the argument tends to favor UA-cam in the long run. I personally didn’t have to even see the whole video conclusion to simply know the the argument was won by UA-cam hands down in my opinion. Just the first criteria of competition alone spoke volumes and ended the debate for me. Podcasting does really well due to The simplicity in the creative process and getting started to begin with. And with close to a million channels is quite impressive and certainly displays an enormous potential for continued growth which would make it appealing to most people starting out. However podcasting simply cannot touch the reach to a general audience that UA-cam already does on daily basis. 500 million channels and counting speaks for itself. I would say that might be because we tend to be more visual than anything else in today’s day and age. If The idea is to get our message across to people and generate an audience in your respective market and therefore grow both your content, reach and your audience, UA-cam owns this arena at the present moment and has I previously mentioned it’s not even close. Don’t get me wrong I love podcasting and I think it has a future still despite the exponential growth of UA-cam even today but the facts and figures illustrate that podcasting tailors to a smaller sized audience and is really marketed and appealing to a certain kind of person who simply engages more with the audio experience than not. In the end I has previously noted it’s a personal choice for everyone. On a side note: just asks yourselves this question? Pat has this video on UA-cam. Would he generate an equal if not more of a response by his audience if this video were a podcast episode on his channel?
This video is incredibly helpful to me as it's a big decision I'm needing to make as I move forward with consistent content. It's still a hard decision, but I am much more thoroughly informed on each of these considerations now so that hopefully my decision will be one I won't regret. Thank you!!!
LOL!!! Alexa heard you say "spotify!" Just wanted to say, I agree with your evaluation (as if MY opinion matters)... the cool thing is that UA-cam also offers a LOT of the same benefits of podcasts (such as embedding in your blog post, etc), but "share-ability" is MUCH easier with UA-cam. Using UA-cam (with video) gives you the ability to export audio for podcasts which helps you promote your UA-cam channel, or your blog post, which you can use to promote your UA-cam channel.
Pat, great video! Love the detailed info!!! Congrats on the 100K subscribers!!!!!!! Question: You mentioned about doing both podcasting and/or UA-cam Channel --> what are your thoughts about "both" in the way that someone like Jocko Willink does with his "Jocko Podcast"? Like the idea of doing the podcast but with the way he video records him doing that and being able to use it "as-is" for both. Even if it was a webcam or Recorded Skype/Zoom seems to be easier to be able to post to both but "repurpose" short video segments of the podcast for social media and UA-cam bites. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Absolutely LOVE this and the format! Thank you so much for clarifying this so articulately. I have been going back and forth between which to start with and this has given me some really good things to consider. Something I would really like to understand about each of these is, realistically, how much time does each commitment take up. I am very quick to say yes to an idea but then always seem to underestimate how long everything takes to do consistently. What do you have to do yourself vs what can you ask someone else to do with each of these platforms, and how does that flow over time work. i.e. starting from you doing everything to you only doing X. Thanks so much xx
Congrats on over 100K Pat! My replay Q: it seems you just recently ramped up your UA-cam channel. To what do you attribute your quick growth (quick based on your recent vids)? Also, I’ve had both podcast (on which you’ve been a guest) and UA-cam channel. I currently prefer YT as it allows the audience to connect with you both visually and vocally, plus they can get to know your teachings as well as behind-the-scenes/day-in-the-life type vlogs. Hard to do that on a podcast. (-Mommy Seed, Nikki)
UA-cam has a very set structure of content creation. The platform, the format, the audience, the advertisements, etc. It is a lot more friendly for creators (I think patreon is catching up in its own little way). The main problem with podcasting (till now) is that there isn't a fixed platform where potential & active podcast listeners go to. Hence, no suggested podcasts, detailed analytics, etc are there to help the format. Spotify has some channels. But I think there is room for "the one platform" in the market which will become the "primary" place to hangout for podcast consumers. I agree, podcast listeners are more dedicated than youtube's audience XD
Here's my answer to your replay question: I'd LOVE for you to do a series of live videos on how a full-time worker could "invest," say, 16 hours per week into a side hustle (affiliate marketing, social media marketing, etc) to create a starting income of $1,000/month and then scale to $5- $10 per month. I've seen a lot of vids and heard a lot of podcasts, even bought a lot of courses... but, I've not found a SINGLE course (or series) that spells out a PLAN that is easily duplicable for GETTING STARTED from step one to step done. I've listened to your podcast for years (about 7), watched your YT channel for years too... I know you're the man who could do this project!
I started doing UA-cam about 3 months ago and just started dabbling in turning videos into podcasts. Had a few people request it, but I also have some future vision for longer podcast episodes going into more detail than I can on my videos.
I'm sure you won't see this message, Pat, but I wanted to thank you for all the information you have shared on podcasts. My boy and I followed you step by step to get my first podcast episode up onto Libsyn 😊 Thank you! I have a question: is it possible to succeed with podcast series in different niches? Or should you stick with 1? Thank you!
What do you mean “you won’t see this message”? - I’m here! Awesome job on the podcast with your boy! Yes, it’s possible to succeed in different niches, but always start with one, and only move into the next one when you’re able to or ready 🙌🏼
Pat Flynn Wow, thank you! My podcast is called Contribution: conversations with amazing Muslims and I have already recorded with a long list of amazing guests. However, my niche is Muslim writers and this is the group I am creating content, community and courses for so I think a podcast for this niche should be next on my list. What do you think? Site is www.muslimcontribution.com if you have time to check it out :)
I started my UA-cam channel about three months ago and have been struggling to get subscribers. I started my podcast about a month ago. I have a lot more listeners on my podcast than I have viewers on UA-cam. So in my experience, as a brand new channel without a network, it’s easier and faster to get a foothold as a podcaster than a youtuber. I think much of this has to do with the way the UA-cam algorithm favors large, popular channels because that’s where they make more money. That’s just my experience from the past few weeks of doing both. I really enjoy making videos, but it is a lot more work and generally takes a lot more planning. I can crank out a podcast episode in an hour from recording to editing.
Hey Pat I'm doing both but I originally started with UA-cam first. I enjoy UA-cam better but that won't stop me from making content on my podcast also. Thanks for the tips
I do both UA-cam and Podcasting. I would rather Podcast instead of UA-cam because I can pickup my Zoom H4n Pro Recorder with my Dynamic Mic and record one or ten podcasts, depending where I’m at, weather it be at a locksmith convention or metal detecting an old home from back in the 1800’s. I enjoy listening and watching your shows. I’m a subscriber.
There’s so much great info here. For future content in this format, I think a comparison of the monetization options for both YT and podcasts would be great. It would also be a perfect follow up to this one :)
I'm only a year into Podcasting and I'm at 2 thousand listeners and I've decided to wait for a while before launching a youtube page , the way I format my show , would be very challenging for you tube so I will take time to learn before I come here
I am a newbie . I think i will go with the podcast first . Through my podcast i can engage some followers which will also help me in my other channels too in the future I will also be comfortable doing it. As i feel i am great with speaking and i have a conviction in my voice .
Hey Pat, love your videos! I have a question about something you didn't touch on. I know whatever you do shouldn't be based solely on this, but you never mentioned which makes more money? Do you have any videos that go over any of that? Thanks.
As far as platform itself, YT can pay you via Adsense for views, podcasting doesn’t work like that. But more money can be made, on either platform, by building an audience and serving them with products, your own, or recommending other products (affiliate marketing). So to answer your question, BOTH!
@@patflynn Thank you so much for your reply! I am really enjoying your content and it's helped me tremendously in getting started and making certain decisions. Take care!
Pat great stuff. While I've never seen you talk in person (like at a conference ) I find that you bring alot of energy and enthusiasm that radiates through the video. Replay Edition Comment..... Since its Ask Pat edition this teaching element should be a staple , Maybe you bring actual listeners or students from one of your courses and have them give some key takeaways. (By doing so you will build great testimonials in an evergreen format, get free press for upcoming launches and more traction for the 2 Platforms Podcast & UA-cam. Only caveat is it might be a touch similar to the podcast format you do, but if you strategically place it near a launch might be better). The name of the game is engagement and value, you are providing both in a wonderful manner. #TeamFlynn
This is clear for me Pat. Thank you. I will go with podcasting and master it. Then consider moving to another platform. I feel like podcasting give you the opportunity to be a better storyteller than video who actually make you think a lot about a lot of things.
Can't you have a youtube channel where it's created with the podcast in mind so you can extract the audio file from the youtube video and use that as the podcast audio file? Then you kill 2 birds with one stone and get best of both worlds podcast and youtube!
@@TheRandomChatSeries just checked your vids out you got an awesome podcasting voice you need to invest into some decent equipment and setup and mabye do some live podcasting on twitch you'd def grow.
@@cannacast4204 Thanks for that great comment. Yeah i want to invest getting a mic and better camera . But being a full time dad it is hard. I appreciate the kind words.
Hi. Great tips and thanks. I started with YT in 2012 and created only a few videos and then stopped for a long time. As of last year, I started my Podcast because I found it easier however now when I recorded I do it in both formats. Pat in your opinion for podcast what are the most important analytics? Followers, download, likes and for YT? subscribers, time, shares or likes?.
I'd love to see blogging (written form) v. podcast v. UA-cam. Even touching on some examples of which types of topics are great for each one would be awesome. Thanks Pat! :)
Replay. I love this format. Very easy to eat and follow. I appreciate that you don't bounce from full shot to screen shot and back. What further content to teach? How about the different analytics between a physical product like your books, and a teaching product like Start From Scratch or your podcasting course.. Thank you! Include time vs. Monetary reward, and job satisfaction reward. Thanks, Kathleen
Like many, I've been struggling with this question. This video clarified the issues and showed me that UA-cam is my initial path. Thanks so much! I can narrow my focus. Good thing, right?
I started with Podcasting. It went well, though I stopped podcasting when it was costing more for hosting than what I was making. I am pivoting to UA-cam because it's cheeper to maintain and I have a higher chance of making a return on my investment sooner than later.
I am looking into the podcast area still and have gotten as far as I have the issue that has gotten me stuck is how to easily perform interviews without trouble. Everything I have been trying to do seems to be causing headaches and I am really getting frustrated. I have started to follow your youtube as it did get my attention, thank you. I am quite far in building my podcast site but this issue with the desire to do interviews and not finding software is really frustrating. If you can assist I would be quite appreciative.
I guess you already know I have a photography podcast, because I'm around quite often... But Lately I started my UA-cam channel. It's hard to chose, because they are quite different and I really think they have fairly different audiences, so I'd say both :) Just as it is right now!
Hi Pat, I'd like to see a discussion on what UA-cam format is best to get message across. Direct to camera with jump-cuts, monologue, out at an event/outdoors, etc.?
So I got it right! Cool :D That was pretty easy, at the time I watched your video, you were at around 99850 subs, and with a little help from Socialblade, I knew how many subscribers you get on average each day. Congrats to the winner! And, Pat... you're definitely a Readin Chanp too... my name is PeRTa, not PeTRa. I laughed so hard :) People don't get my name right all the time here in Belgium too, so really no hard feelings :) Keep up the excellent work and see you soon!
Holy crap you’re right! 😬 I’m sorry man! You’re readin chanp comment literally made me snort 🤣 Thank you for your support and I apologize for getting your name wrong! Glad you’re taking it like a chanp 😊
If I'm podcasting about some short stories on anchor since it's a free platform..can I still have right to those short stories to get them published in a book?
Good points, thank you! However, If I'm listening music in UA-cam, I don't care about the visuals, cause I'm really there for the music. If I'm making podcasts in UA-cam, where I tell stories, I think it's the same thing. The voice, the story and the whole atmosphere comes from the audio. So in that perspective I really don't feel that there's any need for making any exciting visuals. Just plain picture. Maybe that familiar logo you use everywhere, what you are known for. But of course, it totally depends what kind of podcast you are doing.
For me UA-cam is a better choice because I am more of a show and style so I need to use visual aids. Maybe in the future if I come up with subjects to talk about in a lengthy matter then I will consider podcasting. To be honest allot of youtubers are just sitting there and talking so it is ok to listen to them while driving. Another thing, where can I podcast? which platform to use?? I mean youtube is youtube but what about podcast?
Hey Pat. To answer your CTA - I think it would be interesting to compare hosting teaching or education series via two different types of video platforms. Would be you compare teaching via UA-cam (Free Content) vs Teaching via Lynda / Teachable / etc. (Paid Content) I believe it was Amy Porterfield who said you know you've given away enough free content when you think to yourself, "I should be charging for this", but where exactly do you draw that line? Do you give enough information to teach someone and then fill in the details on the paid platform? Do you use UA-cam to drive traffic / create interest in your paid content? Do you create the paid content first so you can have something to point people to? Or do you create the UA-cam content to gain followers and then in the future move them to paid teaching? I assume you would get them on your e-mail list via a magnet so you can get them into your paid course funnel at a later time. Thanks again Pat. I'm loving the new YT series. And thanks for the help this week. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. #teamflynn for the win!
Thank you so much for providing so much good value Pat! Here's my question: How do you, Pat, go about creating community with your audience. What are some specifics that you are intentionally doing to create community?
Hi Pat! How do you set up your sound to be this good on a video for UA-cam? It's clean, clear and free from ambient noise... Any tips would be appreciated!
I am just exploring how to get my info out into the world, introduce specific topics, refer to both books I have written, so me as a huge NEWBiE, I am going to go with Podcast. My content is rather personal and specific. There's more, but ..... )
Obviously the difference between the two really depends on what is the subject. If the subject is talk and is radio talk type of subject, that is the best way to start. Why and what do I mean? If you start with a radio platform, you can air it live on radio for those who don't have internet access. Then the radio broadcast can be recorded for podcast. And a video could be made of the radio program that could be shared on UA-cam. The platform isn't really the difficult part. It the content. You need content that people want to view or listen to. Not everyone has the same interests. Some like politics some avoid it because it can break relationships. Some like humor and some find it offensive.
Hi Tom. As long as you don't use visual cues in your recording you can do that. I suggested to Ryan above that he record his podcasts using video and then export the audio so that he can also learn video editing over a period of time without the learning curve haze. The learning curve haze is a direct result of trying to grasp way to much information at one time. Since non of us can absorb information the way we did when we were kids, it's best to divide the information into their separate tasks and learn them over a week or two period to get it down. Now that I think about it, I don't think we absorbed all that much information as kids. I think our teachers divided that information into separate segments so that we could absorb it over a longer period of time than we realize.
Scott - yeah... in my case I need a few weeks to absorb information. I always tell people "hey! i'm working with what I got" LOL! As long as we keep trying that is all you can ask for. All the best my friend!
Thanks, Pat! I need to research my options as I need to get into "real" video. I'm repurposing my Alexa Flash Briefings into waveform videos, but those aren't the same as a real, live person. :-)
Great video as usual @PATFLYNN, Love how you saved both platforms smoothly done. I have a few questions, I'll just ask 1 right now. I know monetization wasn't one of the comparisons made but I would love to ask you when it comes to earning which one would be greater/quicker profitabilty, if you could make the comparison from the standpoint of a NEWBIE who had to make the choice of Podcasting or Youtubing-(Is that a word). (not sure if its possible given the fact that UA-cam has an unfair advantage over podcasting as it is reaping all the followers you already have from SPI). Additionally I would like to suggest a Monetization of UA-cam as a next video topic, I know you briefly mentioned ADSENSE when you where with Sean Cannell of THINK MEDIA! But what is that ADSENSE and those other ways that he was referring to. ALSO .. WE WANT THE BIG REVEAL OF THE GOLDEN PLAY BUTTON WHEN IT ARRIVES>> THANKS !! 2020 update: Google Podcasts has launched, now connecting google searches to relevant podcast episodes, regardless of the podcasting platform. I’m not sure what the data says, but my guess is that podcast reach will shortly transcend UA-cam due to our evolving “voice-centric” culture in technology (ie. Siri, Alexa, Google Home, etc).
Hi Pat. I love your stuff and hoping to ask a quick question. I am embarrassed to ask this, but I'm trying to link my UA-cam Channel to my instagram account, but can't find the youtube link. All it says is youtube subscriber. :(
I'd like to know if anyone here has the same problem I do. I'm basically a podcaster on UA-cam. But I'm always on edge about what I say. One little joke that offends the wrong person can cause UA-cam to delete your channel. I'm thinking about using Libsyn, but from what I understand they keep 50% of your subscription revenue! I would appreciate any words of advice from the knowledgeable members of this community.
I host audios on libsyn, which pushes out to itunes and stitcher. There is a monthly fee to do so, but I don't charge for listener access, not even sure you can do that.
Hello Pat !! I love your podcast and have learned so much from it. I also enjoy the Tesla interviews. what I think you should maybe do next is so a set up of a podcast v video.
My time is valuable. Spending 34 minutes to provide 7 minutes of information is a waste of time for me. I fast forwarded this to get the essentials and watched 7 minutes of it and learned all the presentor had to offer.
For a future lesson: How to be found better on iTunes. I’m starting a niche podcast. And likely enrolling in Power Up Podcasting next round (when will that be?)

Nice, Im glad it was helpful!
@IvyWinter, what has your experience been with the UA-cam channel that you already have?
MATTJ DISTRIBUTORS the channel I have now, is more of a travel niche channel. I didn't start taking it seriously until about a year ago, but it's finally starting to hit an upward trajectory on growth. It definitely takes a lot of work though
Hey
Keep up the great work,
Matthias
#TeamFlynn
Ooo I like that topic, thanks Ryan! 🙏🏼
LOL!!! Alexa heard you say "spotify!"
Just wanted to say, I agree with your evaluation (as if MY opinion matters)... the cool thing is that UA-cam also offers a LOT of the same benefits of podcasts (such as embedding in your blog post, etc), but "share-ability" is MUCH easier with UA-cam.
Good analysis. Thanks
Here's my answer to your replay question:
I'd LOVE for you to do a series of live videos on how a full-time worker could "invest," say, 16 hours per week into a side hustle (affiliate marketing, social media marketing, etc) to create a starting income of $1,000/month and then scale to $5- $10 per month.
If you make your YT videos then convert them into mp3 for the podcast would that affect your number of YT views? Or is there a way to connect the 2?
I'm only a year into Podcasting and I'm at 2 thousand listeners and I've decided to wait for a while before launching a youtube page , the way I format my show , would be very challenging for you tube so I will take time to learn before I come here
depends on the person & their self awareness
Thank you for this, I just started a podcase in South Africa and I thought the market was saturated until I heard the stats here. It's crazy.
Thank you! Have been wondering this. As always am grateful.
Nice, thanks for being here! 👍
I am a newbie . I think i will go with the podcast first . Through my podcast i can engage some followers which will also help me in my other channels too in the future
I will also be comfortable doing it.
Take care!
How about doing it JRE style 🤔
You can make podcast part of your weekly content on UA-cam channel .
I feel like podcasting give you the opportunity to be a better storyteller than video who actually make you think a lot about a lot of things.
wonderful video.
but you missed out to share , which platform offer maximum earning opportunity.
Can't you have a youtube channel where it's created with the podcast in mind so you can extract the audio file from the youtube video and use that as the podcast audio file? Then you kill 2 birds with one stone and get best of both worlds podcast and youtube!
It is so much easier to podcast on UA-cam that's where i podcast on my UA-cam.
This is literally the best way. Make a cool little studio set up with good audio and do exactly what you said. Bingo, both corners.
@@cannacast4204 def subscribe to your channel to. I love the info you give.
Read and follow...sheesh
Thanks Kathleen, I appreciate you! Great topic ideas, for sure.
Like many, I've been struggling with this question. This video clarified the issues and showed me that UA-cam is my initial path. Thanks so much! I can narrow my focus. Good thing, right?
Love this format becuase I am a visual and concrete learner.
I started with Podcasting. It went well, though I stopped podcasting when it was costing more for hosting than what I was making. I am pivoting to UA-cam because it's cheeper to maintain and I have a higher chance of making a return on my investment sooner than later.
Dis was so insightful Pat! Thank you so much!
One is audio/visual, the other audio only. Don't really see how you can compare the two.
Replay viewer: This kind of presentation is perfect Pat! It's like I'm in a classroom. I love it! Mabuhay! 😊
Hi pat, what camera are you using to film this? Thanks in advance!
I guess you already know I have a photography podcast, because I'm around quite often... But Lately I started my UA-cam channel.
It's hard to chose, because they are quite different and I really think they have fairly different audiences, so I'd say both :)
Just as it is right now!
I laughed so hard :) People don't get my name right all the time here in Belgium too, so really no hard feelings :)
Keep up the excellent work and see you soon!
Holy crap you’re right! 😬 I’m sorry man! You’re readin chanp comment literally made me snort 🤣 Thank you for your support and I apologize for getting your name wrong! Glad you’re taking it like a chanp 😊
Hey Pat! Where did you get the data of how many podcasts vs UA-cam channels are they?
Thank you! This was helpful. I am watching replay.
So do you suggest that I should put my audio podcast on UA-cam?
Heya, are you turning this youtube vid directly into a podcast as well?
I do that
For me UA-cam is a better choice because I am more of a show and style so I need to use visual aids.
Very in depth, thank you very much sir
Hey Pat. To answer your CTA - I think it would be interesting to compare hosting teaching or education series via two different types of video platforms.
Would be you compare teaching via UA-cam (Free Content) vs Teaching via Lynda / Teachable / etc. (Paid Content)
I believe it was Amy Porterfield who said you know you've given away enough free content when you think to yourself, "I should be charging for this", but where exactly do you draw that line?
Thanks for putting this together Pat. It's fabulous!
Valuable information - thank you Pat, want to start podcast channel, right timing for me
Hi Pat! How do you set up your sound to be this good on a video for UA-cam? It's clean, clear and free from ambient noise... Any tips would be appreciated!
8:40 - start
I am just exploring how to get my info out into the world, introduce specific topics, refer to both books I have written, so me as a huge NEWBiE, I am going to go with Podcast. My content is rather personal and specific. There's more, but ..... )
Would selling a podcast on amazon be viable as well?
Obviously the difference between the two really depends on what is the subject. If the subject is talk and is radio talk type of subject, that is the best way to start. Why and what do I mean? If you start with a radio platform, you can air it live on radio for those who don't have internet access. Then the radio broadcast can be recorded for podcast. And a video could be made of the radio program that could be shared on UA-cam. The platform isn't really the difficult part. It the content. You need content that people want to view or listen to. Not everyone has the same interests. Some like politics some avoid it because it can break relationships. Some like humor and some find it offensive.
Hey Pat! Why not take the audio from UA-cam and make a Podcast out of it? Or do you think sticking to one type of media at a time?
Great, thoughtful video, Pat...thank you. Question: What kind of camera do you have connected to your computer for this live stream? Thanks! Nancy
Thanks, Nancy! This was my in-house 4k Blackmagic camera. 👍
Thanks, Pat! I need to research my options as I need to get into "real" video. I'm repurposing my Alexa Flash Briefings into waveform videos, but those aren't the same as a real, live person. :-)
I been podcasting on UA-cam for the last 5 years it is the best and easiest way to get your podcast out there.
Thank you after listening to you I am confident to launch my Podcast - thinking about a name now.
Excellent analysis and criteria. Thanks for the share Pat!
Great timing as looking at podcasts. Also trying to build subscribers. Congrats on 100,000+

Great video, but can't you do youtube and your podcast as one? Upload your UA-cam video to the podcast or upload your video podcast to youtube.
This is obvious. Pat has been going HAM on YT now, go figure.
I'm just getting started with Alexa Flash Briefings Pat. I think it'd be cool to see a comparison of those vs. podcast.
Thought of another vs. idea.... How about a comparison of working from home office vs. from an away from home office.
Hello Pat !! I love your podcast and have learned so much from it. I also enjoy the Tesla interviews. what I think you should maybe do next is so a set up of a podcast v video.
You’re right, long videos tend to become work to watch.
What attracts advertisers more? Video or audio?
Pat I would love to see more about UA-cam because as a budding UA-camr I want to know more. #TeamFlynn!
Thanks Will! Sounds like a good idea. Will definitely write it down! 👍
I am more than ready.
