  • Today we are exploring the world of podcasting. Podcast monetization is a little different from UA-cam, and this video will explain how podcast CPMs and networks function- as well as what equipment to use to get started.
    Blue Yeti microphone: rstyle.me/cz-n/d6g7f3phye
    Shure SM7B: rstyle.me/cz-n/d6g7kvphye
Check out the podcasts interviewed in this video! Listen on your preferred podcast app:

    Bitch Work by Jordyn Rebecca

    What Equipment I Use:

    Adapter for lenses: bit.ly/2VI5fHC
    Wide Lens: bit.ly/2VI5fHC
    Main lens: bit.ly/2wQdrgn
    Microphone: bit.ly/2RR9lvR
    Vlog camera: bit.ly/3esTkWy
Podcasts have become extremely popular- with just about every celebrity, influencers and media company creating one. I’ve found that for the amount of time it takes to create a podcast, it can be very lucrative (much more than UA-cam). With the same amount of views, you would make significantly more with a podcast. However, it’s much more difficult to gain a following on a podcast than on UA-cam. You generally need to already have a following of people on a different platform- although it is possible to start one on its own and grow it through collaboration with other podcasts.

Im a Tim Ferriss fan and I can tell you why he makes a lot of money from his ads and why he puts them only in the beginning.
1- He charges alot of money for his ads because he is very genuine with his recommendations (ads). He only advertises products/services that he would use himself and his fans know that so the ROI advertisers get from these ads are usually high.
2-Tim Ferriss is a big believer in single tasking and focus so he would rather you listen be engaged in the podcast without any ads interrupting the flow of the podcast.

Great content Shelby! BTW, any of your UA-cam posts that do not depend on the visuals are ready to post as a podcast without much more work; you should consider that since you are already getting good audio for the video content you produce it could mean a simple stripping out the audio and uploading it to a podcast host.
NPR is the gold standard for podcasting, they have the best mics, great production values, etc. but they also recommend a lower bit rate for audio publishing. I found that curious of course since everyone seems to go the other way, right. Apparently they have found that folks are not listening on expensive systems/headphones and since a podcast is essentially a radio broadcast with a sexy name they prefer to make their podcasts download quicker for their audience and a lower audio bit rate translates to a much smaller file for long programs. The additional benefit is they consume less space in the cloud. Lots of folks starting out have to be aware of the cost of storing their podcasts so all of the NPR advice makes sense.

Thank u I was about to say this I’m starting to think people talk into the top to make it look like a more expensive podcast/radio style mic which can take a away from the listeners experience in reality the type of mic shouldn’t matter a cheep mic used properly can sound amazing and an expensive mic with bad technique will sound poor as SpongeBob once said “Technique” as for the quality of the blue Yeti most people use it in an treated room and since its a condenser mic it has a higher sensitivity to noise but when used properly with the right tools i.e sound damping and some plugins ( if needed ) it can sound great as well

Love the insights! One thing to also consider is that ad rates also fluctuate based on the space you're in. Ex: lifestyle podcasts, sexuality podcasts, and finance podcasts will make significantly different rates even with the same audience / download sizes.
Lastly, you'll need a few extra pieces of equipment for the wonderful SM7B
Audio Interface (Focusrite solo or 2i2 would be perfect for the mic you have because you'll really need to bump up the levels significantly)
    XLR Cable
Mic stand (boom or arm stands)
    Shock mount

this made me realize I really shouldn't have put my podcast on my channel and I should've just focused on the audio of it haha

      Why not both?

    • @hydrohomie2671
      @hydrohomie2671 3 роки тому +1

Yeah you shouldn't have put it there
Cause that could impact the UA-cam algorithms cause they do not recommend longer videos and that would put a negative impact on your channel
      Best of luck

It’s like anytime I think about wanting to know how something works, you make a video about it. Amazing :)

I see a lot of other comments saying this, but I'm really loving the content you've had on your channel recently. It's stuff I've always been curious about, and you can tell you've put in a lot of work for each of these videos. They're so informative! Keep it up :)

You need to buy an interface for the mic! Focusrite scarlett is one of the best! Love your videos though!

I've been toying with the idea to start a podcast for about a year now. I just am not sure about the topic and the audience that it would be for, I'm a freelance makeup artist and beauty vlogger...I don't think it would be beauty related, I want a podcast that has some more meat to it. Anyways great video Shelby!

Thanks for this Shelby! I have been a youtuber for years - never have done it for the money though. However I am going to start a podcast and knowing that you can make decent money is fantastic news! I thoroughly enjoy talking so, pretty rad to know I could make bank from talking some day! :D
    Love and Light -

I yolo’d it and made one at midnight in my bed. It’s called My Fake Podcast if anyone ever happens to be interested. I whisper in it and talk about a weird boy situation so that’s fuuuuun. Anchor says the episode will be up shortly

Great video! I took a third option: local advertising. Since my podcast is focused on my local region, I had no problem selling advertising with only a reach of 100-300 per episode. The downside is I had to suspend all my ads because of the Coronavirus. Also, one thing about Anchor - if I recall correctly they actually own your podcast when you signup with them. Some might not care but something to consider.
