Fun fact: Sam Raimi didnt want to put Venom in the movie at all and was super against it but the studio literally told him they would have someone else make the movie if he didnt do it. So, Raimi intentionally picked the least scary and least fitting actor he could possibly find for Venom lmao.
He didn’t necessarily pick him because he’s the least scary actor to play the role, he just didn’t really get into the later comics with venom in them, he said he didn’t understand the character, so he did his own take, a guy that sort of mirrors Peter and easily could of been how Peter had turned out if he had a different upbringing and set of morals.
@@jarrav8186 I said he did his own take.. I agree with Marcus. I fucking love these movies _because_ of how corny and cheesy they are, and how they don't take themselves too seriously. I feel like they perfectly capture the feel of the Spiderman comics - just non-stop campy fun with moments of quote-on-quote "serious" dialogue that in retrospect sounds corny and is tonally consistent with the rest of the story.

@jimmy just jeremy Peter wasn't there for her. Just like everything else in his life he put the city above his own priorities. She deserved better, even if he was a good man. Sometimes things just don't work. It's selfish to expect a woman to stay loyal to a man she never sees, one who seems to have no investment in her life. Peter in many ways rejected Mary Jane before she cut it off. He was the one who wasn't loyal. These are the realities of adult life.

While I agree that the Raimi films are overrated, their portrayal of Uncle Ben knocked it out of the park. It was almost pathetic watching Amazing Spider-Man try to redo the character by just making him angry all the time and making his death scene laughable.
I think we have to remember that these movies are based off of comics. The campiness works. The movies back then had the heart & soul of the comics with the campiness included. Now it seems like they are made on an assembly line using a formula. They’ve lost the campiness too…and replaced it with bad jokes.
It doesn’t always work though that’s what he’s saying. It’s so distracting at sone points you forget some scenes should be tense, it can get to be way too much through this series and it didn’t work 100%
It's not campy because it's based off the comics, it's campy because that's just Sam Raimi's style. He's always been known for making silly low/mid budget movies
As a scientist (Mechanical Engineer, IT Researcher, Energy analyst), I can tell you that '...back to formula' only means start from the beginning. Norman was worried about the time and procedures it'll take before progress is made again. Hence he tested it on himself. Love the trilogy BTW.

This is exactly it. These movies were intentionally campy because they're portraying comic book characters, but there's very subtle character acting in there too to add a touch of realism and relatability to the characters.
In comics spiderman shooted his webs put of his hands If somebody over stresses the Web would the glands come out Because all of our glands are connected Right? Idk, I felt like Aunt May’s reaction towards Peter’s confession about uncle Ben’s death was understandable. Sure maybe it was a bit cold but having to learn that your husbands death could’ve been prevented is a lot to mentally and emotionally process. Plus early in the movie it was established that she was still grieving over Ben’s death. Her grief is still fresh and I felt like her leaving Peter was her way of communicating that she needed time and space to process Peter’s sad confession. Great video btw.
Also, Aunt May isn’t always a saintly mother figure. She used to constantly complain and believe Spider-Man was a bad person in the comics. She also tried marrying Doc Ock, etc.
Also Mary Jane was justifiably mad at Peter, he really did kept making it all about himself and Spiderman when she tried to tell him her problems, Cosmo seems to just want every single person to be nice to Peter all the time no matter the circumstances.

Ok, is he not aloud to think that the newer movies are better. Personally I love the MCU Spider-Man and I don’t really remember the Sam rami movies being that good
@Jim Johnson So true 😂 This can work out. Spider-Man is a HUGE sandbox to play around in. They just have to play their cards right. They should look to Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spectacular Spider-Man, Spider-Verse, and PS4 Spider-Man as their inspiration. They're basically perfect! I don't think Holland should crossover with Venom, because their characters are different ages. Sony should just proceed to have Tom faceoff against the Sinister Six. Sony should release a statement saying Venom takes place in the same universe as The Amazing Spider-Man movies and have Marc Webb return to direct the third one, and then we can have these two characters crossover. Sam Raimi should come back and direct Spider-Man 4, which takes place 10 years after Spider-Man 3 and explores an older and more experienced Spider-Man a lá Logan. Finally, we can have a live-action Spider-Verse with Tobey, Andrew, and Tom; a Sony equivalent to the Avengers. From there we can get Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Jessica Drew, Ben Reilly, Miguel O' Hara, and other REALLY INTERESTING SPIDER-CHARACTERS!
(Jim Johnson) People can be fans of characters without screaming like an insane fangirl. I personally love the MCU Spider-Man, though I know it’s less comic accurate than the other movies.

Me and my friend have been going to the new AMC theatrical re releases of the Spiderman movies (they’re currently doing Tobey’s trilogy, then Andrew’s, the finishing with Tom’s) and we feel the exact opposite. We’ve gone to see Tobey’s Spiderman in and 2 thus far (Spiderman 3 is next week) and felt they were better than we remember as kids and actually incredibly soulful movies. We think these feel more like stories while the latest marvel movies feel more like corporate projects or products. They’re simpler than the latest marvel multiverse stuff but somehow tenfold more meaningful in its storytelling. The current marvel stuff feels a little more hollow/sterile. Our takeaways so far upon revisiting at least.
This is EXACTLY what me and my brother have done! Not only did I realize how much I liked Spider-Man 2, but that I love it in a different way now that I'm an adult. As a kid I love the fight on the train scene, as an adult I feel more when the people hold onto him and lift him up. I am glad I'm not alone in this. It seems strange to call out Harry turning away from the conversation between Peter and his father. He explains it himself shortly after: "He pretty much wants to adopt you" Harry didn't check out bc he was a sim. He checked out bc he had nothing to contribute to their conversation and his jealousy was making him uncomfortable. That's a pretty consistent part of his character.

He serves no purpose other than to make a way too formal introduction for a new character, which you could have done and then promptly leave the screen so he doesn’t take up room in the frame, or just be there on set as long in general. Is this an egregious sin? No. It’s more likely just a result of the script not taking into consideration how it would look in person for this conversation to have happened. It’s a trivial joke to make fun of the movie for. Which is why I found it weird that someone would go out of their way to defend when there are plenty of other points for someone to make about this semi-critique video. I find that Rami fans always do this, they often defend points that don’t need to be defended because they are just facts about how the movies are. They’ll get mad about others pointing out how corny the movie can be despite later saying that it is the appeal for them.
I almost don't have words for how much I fucking hated the original Tobey Maguire 'Spider-Man.' Aside from the fact that it's infuriating to watch Peter lurch from one wrong decision to another, it was as if every frame of the film was carefully crafted to make the viewer as uncomfortable as humanly possible. The analogy I've settled on is imagine you're going over to the house of an acquaintance. Not a friend, but someone you've interacted with from time to time. Your mother drives you to his house, and these are the days before mobile devices, so you're going to be there for the visit's planned duration of two hours. Within minutes of your only escape pulling back out of the driveway and leaving you, acquaintance and his parents are screaming at each other, his big brother starts bullying him, and his older sister is crying while their father berates her. They're ignoring you completely, but you're trapped in the dysfunctional chaos, with no way to call for help, and it's going to be two hours before you're rescued. If you can picture that, you have an *idea* of how I felt while watching Spider-Man. I *hated* that movie, and I purposely never saw Spider-Man 2 because of it, and still haven't to this day.

14:40 - I actually REALLY liked this scene where Aunt May doesn't initially forgive Peter. It's more realistic; she just learned that Peter's the reason her husband, the love of her life, is dead... and you expect her to just instantly be ok with it? The look on her face of sheer shock, indignation, and quite frankly disgust as she draws her hand away and leaves... it was just so heart-wrenching, especially since we've never seen her like that (in fact, it's because she's an otherwise all-forgiving grandmotherly-figure that this one scene where she's actually appalled at Peter is all the more impactful); it was an understated gem of a scene, and was the first time I felt like a movie protagonist faced rightful judgement for their mistakes rather than being instantly forgiven. (And in her defence she handled it as well as a person could realistically be expected to; she withdrew cause she needed a moment to process things, and later brushed the matter aside when she forgave him, putting it behind them. But I do appreciate when characters, even in an otherwise cliche movie, occasionally break out of their roles and act like real people with realistic reactions).
Bro... What? Peter, a HIGH SCHOOL KID, saw an armed man stealing money. A cop (armed) was standing right there, and told Peter, a HIGH SCHOOLER, to chase after him. Peter had absolutely no idea his uncle would attempt to stop the man stealing material goods at the risk of his own life, nor did he have any responsibility to do it himself. Jesus Christ it's like you guys throw out all logic because you have nostalgia.
@@rubytherookie yeah, a HIGH SCHOOL kid with SUPERPOWERS, who knew what he was capable of and knew he could easily take down the robber if he wanted to; not to mention Uncle Ben was only there & in danger in the first place because he was Peter’s ride. (And tbf i kinda agree with u that it’s not REALLY Peter’s fault; he’s under no obligation to stop the robber to help the owner who just screwed him over, and no one could reasonably predict that his inaction would somehow lead to Uncle Ben dying; I agree he’s being too hard on himself. But it’s less about how guilty he actually is and more about how guilty he FEELS and regrets it (which is evidently a lot based on his confession to Aunt May, especially since he left Uncle Ben on bad terms in the car), that makes for a very poignant heartwrenching scene, regardless of how at fault he actually is).
She shouldn't be mad at him in the first place lol. He had no way of knowing the guy would jack Ben's car. Is Peter supposed to just stop every criminal he sees just in case they end up killing someone he knows? Also, Ben should've just given him the car and reported it stolen.

I feel like Aunt May's response to Peter in *Spider-Man 2* is one of the most authentic human moments in the franchise. Throughout all three films she's been 100% in his corner. When other people were down on him Aunt May was there to remind him that he's a good person and worthy of love and admiration. This is because she genuinely believes this to be so. Up until he confesses to her, Peter could do no wrong in her eyes. Also, keep in mind that throughout the movie her life has been on a steady decline. Her husband of decades has only been dead a couple of years, the bills are racking up, her savings are running dry, and she's about to lose her home. About the only constant in her life at this point that's any good is Peter and her unwavering faith in his inherent goodness. So when Peter comes in and confesses to her that his selfishness was directly responsible for the chain of events that lead to her husband's murder, the last bit of goodness she had in her life has been snatched away. How else was May supposed to react? Her nephew, whom up to this point she's only ever seen as a saint, has just told her that her husband died because Peter didn't bother stopping Ben's killer at the place Peter wasn't supposed to be at in the first place. If anything her response was more measured than she had any reason to be.
Yea I think Marcus really misses the point or is just really nitpicking to make a point about how the raimi movies aren't as good as people remember. It's the same with uncle ben too, uncle ben isn't telling Peter to not fight (Uncle Ben even says Flash probably deserved it), he's telling him to be careful and to not turn into someone he'll regret becoming, in other words be a good person and do the right thing.
The Dashboard I think Aunt May would be too nurturing to suddenly dismiss or chide Peter on the news she can faintly believe (Logically, a lot of people would ignore and put up no fight against a man holding a gun who went as far as to threaten a man’s life to steal money). I don’t see Aunt May suddenly acting like Peter had psychic powers and could do much to prevent the guy killing someone after the fact
For real! That was frustrating to watch, but it's human! When I watch the Dark Knight Rises and Alfred says "Bruce, I lied about Rachel's decision to protect your heart because I love you and I just want you to be free" and Bruce is like "Hey Alfred go fuck yourself," I don't see that as a plot flaw. I get it. And eventually, he learns. Just like Aunt May.

Shane Brock The fact that homecoming doesn’t feature uncle Ben just makes this statement more true.

This can work out.

Its just his opinion guys, don't need to go all apeshit lmao, I actually agree with his opinion now that I looked back at these films, they're not that great or perfect like people said they are, I prefer mcu spiderman, my cup of tea, but I ain't trying to disrespect any of you guys either
@@robl0xgamer258 I don't think it's regarded as perfect, a lot of people just prefer it cause of the underlying themes that are in between the bad parts of the film. The themes are highloghted and a lot of people can relate to Peter in these films. MCU spiderman isn't bad, but he seems perfect. He doesn't have to live a life in secret, he doesn't have to divide his identty to save his loved ones from his enemies, I don't even see his identity being figured out in FFH a disadvantage cause a lot of people will look up to him like How Tony was being Iron man. The Raime films were just about a boy making the hard decision in life to keep his loved ones safe.

I feel like even when these movies are bad (especially Spider-Man 3), they're still ocassionally self-aware enough to not get too mad.
The problem with this review (or 1 of them) is that it's easy to make fun of something good, it is difficult to praise it.

It seems strange to call out Harry turning away from the conversation between Peter and his father. He explains it himself shortly after: "He pretty much wants to adopt you"
Harry didn't check out bc he was a sim. He checked out bc he had nothing to contribute to their conversation and his jealousy was making him uncomfortable. That's a pretty consistent part of his character.
bro is defending this movie like its paying him
@@isaacmartinez2359 damn dude he wrote a pretty good explanation for one scene in a movie, not even pouring his heart out for this defence, he's not being paid shit (I apologise I'm getting paid to defend this guy)
@@isaacmartinez2359 reasoning seems well though
@@Aryan-qv5qk you can make up reason all you want, just like how I can make up reasons on what they could have had Harry do instead of mentally check out
- Say “ill catch you inside”
- Wave to friends and join them
- Say bye to his father and let him talk to Peter
- have a teacher call his name
My point, as well as the video’s in making this off hand comment is that Harry is not need for the scene.

BTW...Fuck HiTop Films...
At least he took it maturely. The video was just plain dumb
This trilogy aged like blue cheese. Not everyone's taste is met or pleased, but it's still pretty damn good to certain people.
This is a weirdly perfect analogy.

But I do appreciate when characters, even in an otherwise cliche movie, occasionally break out of their roles and act like real people with realistic reactions).
ok
People want picturesque clichè that’s why movies suck nowadays. All predictable
He missed with this video these movies are better than he gives them credit for
Bro...
14:44: It’s an appropriate reaction. She doesn’t want to yell at Peter with anger, and it would be even stupider if she would forgive him instantly.
She shouldn't be mad at him in the first place lol. He had no way of knowing the guy would jack Ben's car. Is Peter supposed to just stop every criminal he sees just in case they end up killing someone he knows? Also, Ben should've just given him the car and reported it stolen.

Take a shot everytime he says "But I'll get into that later"
Let's get into all the times he says "I'll get into that later".
1.) 2:18 : He calls Norman Osborne the greatest character in the movies, and says he'll get into why he likes him so much later.
2.) 7:53: If you really are stretching you could count this, he's talking about how Aunt May is horrible in these movies and how she's just the biggest asshole, and how he'll get into that in the next movie where she's even worse. And he does.
To note: As of 13:30 I still haven't heard a single one of these lines! Worst drinking game ever :(. Oh and in 14:30 he DOES WHAT HE SAYS HE WOULD DO AND TALK ABOUT WHY AUNT MAY IS HORRIBLE IN THE SECOND MOVIE. Soooo yeah bud. As of 16:30 he still hasn't said it again. YOU LIED TO ME!

You said it, buddy!
Also, once Aunt Mays had some time to let the news sit, she tells Peter that he did the right thing.
I want you to know that I saw this at work in 2018 and ever since, "snense" (5:21) has remained in my vocabulary, much to the confusion of all my friends
