I think we have to remember that these movies are based off of comics. The campiness works. The movies back then had the heart & soul of the comics with the campiness included. Now it seems like they are made on an assembly line using a formula. They’ve lost the campiness too…and replaced it with bad jokes.
It doesn’t always work though that’s what he’s saying. It’s so distracting at sone points you forget some scenes should be tense, it can get to be way too much through this series and it didn’t work 100%
It's not campy because it's based off the comics, it's campy because that's just Sam Raimi's style. He's always been known for making silly low/mid budget movies
While I agree that the Raimi films are overrated, their portrayal of Uncle Ben knocked it out of the park. It was almost pathetic watching Amazing Spider-Man try to redo the character by just making him angry all the time and making his death scene laughable.
Someone please tell me how J.K. Simmons and Willem Defoe were better cast to play their comic book characters than freaking Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man.
Fun fact: Sam Raimi didnt want to put Venom in the movie at all and was super against it but the studio literally told him they would have someone else make the movie if he didnt do it. So, Raimi intentionally picked the least scary and least fitting actor he could possibly find for Venom lmao.
He didn’t necessarily pick him because he’s the least scary actor to play the role, he just didn’t really get into the later comics with venom in them, he said he didn’t understand the character, so he did his own take, a guy that sort of mirrors Peter and easily could of been how Peter had turned out if he had a different upbringing and set of morals.
@@jarrav8186 I said he did his own take.. I never said anything about how venom actually is.. what I’m saying is look at Sam raimi’s Eddie Brock, he’s sort of a lot like Peter Parker in a way except he clearly has a different moral compass, and no one like aunt may or uncle Ben to teach him what’s right, it doesn’t get to be explored as much as it could of due to all that’s going on in the movie(the same can be said about all the villains and their subplots)
Thank you, lol had me rereading my comment wondering where I said anything like that lol (he deleted his comment, so there’s no context to what this comment is anymore lol)
Looking back at it now, it was really weird when Uncle Ben talked about how with great power comes great responsibility, but then went on to have a five-minute rant about the white man's burden before finally dying. I guess it really was a different time.
I’m surprised how much this comment section has calmed down. Honestly thought it would be getting those stupid ass spam comments till the end of UA-cam.
Me and my friend have been going to the new AMC theatrical re releases of the Spiderman movies (they’re currently doing Tobey’s trilogy, then Andrew’s, the finishing with Tom’s) and we feel the exact opposite. We’ve gone to see Tobey’s Spiderman in and 2 thus far (Spiderman 3 is next week) and felt they were better than we remember as kids and actually incredibly soulful movies. We think these feel more like stories while the latest marvel movies feel more like corporate projects or products. They’re simpler than the latest marvel multiverse stuff but somehow tenfold more meaningful in its storytelling. The current marvel stuff feels a little more hollow/sterile. Our takeaways so far upon revisiting at least.
This is EXACTLY what me and my brother have done! Not only did I realize how much I liked Spider-Man 2, but that I love it in a different way now that I'm an adult. As a kid I love the fight on the train scene, as an adult I feel more when the people hold onto him and lift him up. I am glad I'm not alone in this. The problem with this review (or 1 of them) is that it's easy to make fun of something good, it is difficult to praise it.
I can explain the back to formula bit. The general tells him he has two weeks to have a successful human trial or the federal funding will be pulled, which could cause serious financial damage to the company. Going "back to formula" basically means they need to return to a pre-animal trial stage.
Ok, is he not aloud to think that the newer movies are better. Personally I love the MCU Spider-Man and I don’t really remember the Sam rami movies being that good
@Jim Johnson So true 😂 This can work out. Spider-Man is a HUGE sandbox to play around in. They just have to play their cards right. They should look to Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spectacular Spider-Man, Spider-Verse, and PS4 Spider-Man as their inspiration. They're basically perfect! I don't think Holland should crossover with Venom, because their characters are different ages. Sony should just proceed to have Tom faceoff against the Sinister Six. Sony should release a statement saying Venom takes place in the same universe as The Amazing Spider-Man movies and have Marc Webb return to direct the third one, and then we can have these two characters crossover. Sam Raimi should come back and direct Spider-Man 4, which takes place 10 years after Spider-Man 3 and explores an older and more experienced Spider-Man a lá Logan. Finally, we can have a live-action Spider-Verse with Tobey, Andrew, and Tom; a Sony equivalent to the Avengers. From there we can get Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Jessica Drew, Ben Reilly, Miguel O' Hara, and other REALLY INTERESTING SPIDER-CHARACTERS!
(Jim Johnson) People can be fans of characters without screaming like an insane fangirl. I personally love the MCU Spider-Man, though I know it’s less comic accurate than the other movies.
Spider-Man 2: Mary Jane leaves her fiance to be with Peter Spider-Man 3: Mary Jane leaves Peter to be with Harry Osborn Peter: *Surprised Pikachu face*
@jimmy just jeremy Peter wasn't there for her. Just like everything else in his life he put the city above his own priorities. She deserved better, even if he was a good man. Sometimes things just don't work. It's selfish to expect a woman to stay loyal to a man she never sees, one who seems to have no investment in her life. Peter in many ways rejected Mary Jane before she cut it off. He was the one who wasn't loyal. These are the realities of adult life.

The point of Dr. Octopus in the movie is his arrogance. The guy compared himself to Einstein and Edison. The part about him not getting protective gear was on purpose, he couldn’t even imagine his plan failing. 1. Harry would introduce his father by his full name because he's an angsty teen mockingly referring to his FAMOUS scientist father who would always be referred to as such by the press. Likely because he feels like he is in his shadow. 2. "Back to Formula" is likely a euphemism for shelving a project that Osborn considers to be his magnum opus. 3. The "door mat" goes with it because Osborn owns OSCORP. DUH. 4. To describe Spiderman's vigilante efforts as "just beating people up" is laughable obtuse. 5. The initial criticism of Aunt May, like many of the criticism, amounts to taking a clip out of context and saying "isn't this silly" in funny internet man voice. 6. Not defending this films CGI; however, as of 2023, CGI effects in superhero films still look terrible. (The Flash) 7. When critiquing Spiderman's choice between Mary Jain and a container full of innocent people, you say "if this were to happen in a supper hero movie today, there would be public outcry for how silly it is." First, the movie came out in 2002. That would be like criticizing Romeo and Juliet for featuring a forbidden romance because it would be cliche by todays standards. Second, why? As a character, Spiderman frequently struggles to balances what he wants as Peter Parker and his values as a protector of the New York population. Wouldn't exploiting that struggle make the Green Goblin more of a threat? Wouldn't that choice be particularly relevant to the character and serve to illustrate this struggle in dramatic way? You say it's stilly but don't explain why. 8. In the context of the film when accompanied with sound design and appropriate placement in-between breaks in the score, the speech and particularly the "don't tell Harry" line are very impactful. Chopping them down to seconds and adding a laugh track isn't a criticism and says nothing about how they fit within the overall tone. You criticize this film for being dated but after 5 years, this review feels MORE dated. This is a review for babies.

Shane Brock The fact that homecoming doesn’t feature uncle Ben just makes this statement more true.

@Jim Johnson So true 😂
This can work out.

(The Flash)

GAMING MOTION then again the rami trilogy has the greatest line in cinematic history,”WHOA HE STOLE THAT GUY’S PIZZA”
These movies really needed to be taken down a peg. I GET IT, they're fun. They're perfectly fine movies. But they're not the peak of cinema like some people claim they are, and I'm sick of them being hoisted up on a pedestal like they're the best Spider-Man media ever. They're just FINE.
why
tbh they're good spiderman movies, only the animated spideverse ones get close
@@QUBIQUBED They're fine. They're aggressively okay.
Thank you for making this video. It’s important to remember that these movies aren’t very good
Um, they are great movies. That's why this garbage video has over 100,000 dislikes. They sure as heck beat the stuff with Iron Man Jr. He was outshined by other actors in his own film in both Homecoming and No Way Home. That's pathetic.

J.K Simmons as J Jonah Jameson is the best thing about the Raimi trilogy.

Aaandddd now hes also in the MCU films thank fuck
Hey Dr Octopus was bad ass.

What's next water is too wet for your taste?
I feel like you're one of those people who take cinema sins seriously
seto kaiba
There's a very clear difference between this and Cinemasins. Cinemasins is based entirely on nit picking. That's the whole point. That's the comedy. This, on the other hand, while self-aware about the nit picking, is still a legitimate review. Hell, the title and thumbnail give that much away.
He is comparing it to other superhero movies. And why it might not be that great of a spiderman series since it's so damn goofy.
something can only be wet if it normally is not, and can be dried, which means water isn't wet. it's just moisture.
dustyb58
Wet means being in contact with water, and water is constantly in contact with itself, so I'd call water wet. (The need for it to stick to something denser is a stupid, arbitrary line in the sand. You're telling me ice, aka frozen water, is wet, OIL, aka ANOTHER FUCKING LIQUID, if poured into some water...is wet. But WATER ITSELF is excluded? Fuck off, mate, if ANYTHING, water is SUPER wet, it is the EPITOME of wet! It is wetness rubbing up against itself, it is the purest form of wet!)
I think the goofy acting of Dafoe’s Goblin is perfect, the Green Goblin usually just messes with Spider-Man for goofs in the comics.
5:47 harrys walking away from his dad because he’s realized that norman doesn’t care about harry or that he’s there so he walks away upset. bro how can u miss that?

It definitely has problems, but I think they are decent, at least 1 and 2. Spider-Man 3 was pretty meh, but actually had some really powerful moments in it, with Sandman being Ben's killer and not even meaning to do it, and he was trying to help his daughter. They kind of messed up Eddie and turned him into a jerk, so when something bad happens to him, you don't feel sorry for him like you do in the comics. Even so, with these problems, it was nothing compared to the Amazing Spider-Man 2 which really sucked.
sam raimi's spiderman was made for a different time and the campy nature makes them wonderful but NO the first two are NOT the pinnacle of spiderman... THE COMICS ARE
