I was kind of sceptical at first, seeing that this DLC diverts from your usual policy of including free upgrades for everyone and behaves like a mod in practice while also being developed by a third party team. I held off buying it for a day, looking at the Steam reviews I thought I wouldn't touch it. Then I saw a video showcasing the map and models in detail, which prompted me to open my purse, dust off my ArmA and fire it up in the editor.
As a person with huge interest for the Cold War in general and especially passing the former inner German border about once a month I have to really tip my hat to the dev team, they absolutely nailed the depiction of the Wall, its security measures and fortifications, the watchtowers (even the interior, especially with the bigger ones) - the shelters underneath the latter are sadly missing, but I can understand that from a modeling/mapping perspective with how underground structures work in this game. Still, you can perfectly see the ventilation used for the shelter and I think with the right graphics settings and perspective you could easily trick someone into thinking a screenshot from this map was actually a photo. I don't know the exact area the map is based on yet, but since I'm German I'll definitely check it out sooner rather than later and look forward to finding out how close they stuck to the real thing.
If the scenario isn't for you, I'd probably not pay this DLC any attention and just skip it, be happy with what you already have - for everyone interested in it, this is the thing you want! I can't wait for further updates and complementing mods and starting to develop my own scenarios and missions for other people to enjoy.

I smiled for the first 45 seconds. The music plus seeing all the differing units advance was very neat. It was like a visualization of all the scenarios I've played out in my head of West vs East Germany. Very well done gentlemen.

Cold War simulator. Lots of shooting range time, and once you unlock the missile silos you can sit in front of the red button with a friend and wait for a phone call that will never come.

Are you kidding? Aside from the setting, which is a bit men, just about everything about Arms 3 is more sophisticated than Arms 2. And the Capture am the Island mode was much better in Arma 2, the peak of the multiplayer experience for me.
That trailer is unfortunately boring... flat...
I would get this, but my problem is it's a dlc that doesn't integrate like arma dlc's. So it loads like a mod, thus I can't have it loaded and just hop onto a server. Which is a problem, since all the other dlc's have been very usable thanks to them just being set and ready without a server or player having to sync what they have up. But here, it just splits the players unlike all the others. So I really hope that gets fixed, since I'm sure there are others who find that a deal breaker.

The Steam reviews for this are BAD.
It's not a true Bohemia product, it's fan made stuff. So obviously the quality is iffy.

Currently, in terms of quality, it's better than the RHS and very close to vanilla.

imho, still better than arma official dlc's - they got less content for bigger price (only vehicles mostly), this one got a self-sustainable campaign, units, map for a reasonable price, long waiting for old-school 80's vibe is finally over.

Yes basicly it's stupid, it's as stupid as aliens in arma 3.
Add climbing and repelling! It needs to be an official feature already! Your games a sandbox game and yet 99% of the time the game is played out in a horizontal playing field, Adding the above feature allows for more vertical engagements. Just being able to get on top of a house or even a shed changes how you and the game is played.
Well, they probably have to do the same for the AI too, and you know the ARMA AI isn't the most brightest bunch. It could work on Squad for it's PVP only feature but not ARMA.
@@JWalters388 Adding support for AI would be a nice bonus. But its not required and would do more harm then good. Firstly AI is the hardest part of any game and Arma3's AI is advanced in what it can do But its just another scripted AI. Untill adaptive AI starts gets used in the near future, Scripting them to use vertical advantages would just open them up to exploitation and errors.

People that don't own the APEX DLC will be able to SEE and interact (Shoot or drive into) the contents of the DLC but worn't (WILL NOT) be able to drive/use it!

IF you don't have APEX you can play in a vanilla HELI while your friend can play in a APEX VTOL plane while you can see it. - fine

Great DLC, will buy this ASAP. But what a sucky ass marketing. You should have released a trailer at least a month in advance and post some more footage beforehand. To at least create a little hype. Also this trailer is very weak. It should be a story/campaign telling trailer with a good build up of boombastic music. So you know what will be going on and you get excited at the same time. What a weak ass trailer music was that. But i'm glad that at least this DLC will feature real weapons and vehicles. The scenery and weapons make it feel like Operation Flashpoint. +10 for at least going back to the roots.

God I love the track in this one. All these synthwave(ish?) tracks feel like the theme of the Cold War. Like how the more heroic classical music fits WW2.

This is so bad, You guys from bohemia making quantity over quality. This kind of content exist years already by free mods. Why we need more and bigger maps, when there are still shitty clunky movement, dumb AI, bad optimization. And that ugly animation when body almost colapses under rocoil pressure, it still in here. Start updating really important things like: AI, animation, physics, optimization. Do fucking QUALITY PLEASE. Look at "Squad" in alpha stage it looks and feels much better than ARMA 3, and its improving all the time, but You adding features, maps, and not improving anything.

Only for 25 Dollars can you have a Mod that is at best okay, but really nothing impressive. It's also extremely random for Arma 3 set in 2035 to be making Cold War DLCs. I'm in the minority and like the 2035 setting and vehicles and weapons, so I'd rather see more modern and future based platform content. If you wanna make Cold War Content Bohemia, just make a Cold War Arma Game and not just take some modders work and sell it as a 25 dollar DLC. The map is nice, which is the most I can say about this DLC.
Eh, BI has no money left for the campaign, since for only 1k rubles they provide only a new map ~ 20x20km and vehicles and weapons that already exist in mods. The only hope for the mission. I am disappointed. I would not give even ~ 900 rubles for this DLC, but in order for the company's wallets to be tight, you have to spend this amount ...
