Learn from me so you don’t have to learn these yourself. My 2011 Jeep Wrangler JKU has the 3.8L V6 engine. It’s been leaking oil from “somewhere.” I made videos of addressing the 3 most common leak locations for this engine - one video for the two valve cover gaskets and one video for the upper oil pan gasket. This is video 2 - Upper Oil Pan Gasket. Link to video 1 - Valve Cover Gaskets - is below.
There are lots of videos out there on how to do this, so this is more of a “lessons I learned” video. Feel free to leave comments or questions. If you find this video useful, consider subscribing to see future videos more easily.
NOTE: I snapped off one of the oil pan bolts when I was installing it. Just the running torque caused it to shear: I wasn’t doing the final torquing. Thus, I highly recommend you run a M6 x 1.0 tap into all the holes to clean them out and clean off all your bolts before reinstalling - the bolts are very fragile! Also, don’t over torque!
NOTE: Make sure you don’t over torque - transmission dust cover bolts are 40 FT-lbs, oil pan bolts are 105 IN-lbs (inch-pounds!!).

Great video! I especially enjoyed the pause to show the warning sign 😂
It seems a smart thing might be to go with fresh bolts to assure this tragedy of broken bolts does not happen. Thanks for telling us what size they are. I will be going and buying new ones before reusing.
Thanks for the video… very helpful! I finished mine today without breaking any bolts. Because of your warning, I took the extra time to clean residue off of each of the bolts (Dremel with steel brush) and then test threaded a bolt into each hole by hand before actually re-installing oil pan. Then used torque wrench set at 105 inch-pounds to CAREFULLY tighten the bolts. As recommended, start with the middle bolts and work your way to the ends of the pan. I did each bolt by hand… no power tools. Will give it a few days but definitely anxious to see what it looks like after I get home from work tomorrow… fingers crossed!
Thank you for sharing the video.
I’m about to change mine. Question, should I just buy all new ARP bolts? Also, do I need to also change the lower gasket? Thanks again.
It indeed took me about 6 hours to drill out my broken bolt. The bolts are extremely hard. Today I will put the pan on again....after cleaning the bolts and chasing the threads in the block. I will be very nervous when torquing those bolts and will probably dial it back to 8 ft lbs.

This evening I "snapped" one of the bolts holding the oil pan. I hope it doesn't take me 10 hours to drill/tap it out tomorrow. I had my torque wrench set at 9 ft lbs. I guess I will dial it back some.
Good vid.
Did this fix your leaks?? I’m having leaks exactly like yours and wondering what I should replace first. Awesome vid!!
Hi. Can you provide the link for the bolt? TY
How did you get the broken bolt out
You think this gasket fits 08 jeep wrangler jku?
Thanks for sharing this useful video. I am subscribed to your channel.
Everything i read including mopar themselves say the bolts are m6x1.00x24 not x20
