Don’t let your A/C ruin your ceiling – install a drain pan condensate switch
If you have a drain pan under your home a/c unit, especially if your unit is in your attic instead of garage or basement, you want - need - a condensate cutoff switch for your pan. Some setups also have a switch in the condensate drain line but for my setup, if the condensate line backups up it gets dumped into the pan under the a/c unit. If that pan doesn’t drain and overflows, it’s going to start flooding the upstairs of my house!
This is video 4 of a mini-series as I tackle some DIY projects on our home HVAC. It only takes about 15 to 30 minutes to install this, doesn’t require major tools, and only costs $20. Let me show you how to install this two-wire switch.
Parts:
• Rectorseal 96100 Magnetic Float Switch AG-1100 amzn.to/3zrWRU1
• Orange wire nuts (1 or 2): amzn.to/3VT4hXQ
• Multimeter: amzn.to/41gRhxA

Tools needed:
• Driver and socket (or screwdriver) to remove screws/bolts on panel(s) of your a/c unit
• Philips screwdriver to for “R” wire into a/c unit board
• Wire cutter and Wire stripper if needed for wiring on switch
• Flashlight or other light if it’s dark in your attic/garage/basement

Stabilize your Jeep Wrangler steering with a new steering stabilizer

KAYGO sent me some new work gloves to try out and I thought I’d use them to install a new Teraflex steering stabilizer. Reducing the wind roar so you can hear your Subaru’s exhaust roar - window gussets!

Tighten up that steering wheel by replacing the drag link tie rod end (Jeep Wrangler JKU)

    I've heard some people say that you shouldn't get antifreeze on the serpentine belt, because it can cause it to squeal. Do you have any issues with the belt squealing? Thank you for making this video.

    • @CarbonsDIYGarage
      @CarbonsDIYGarage 13 годин тому

      @@fredmeyer3063 I did not have any issues with belt squeal. Avoiding getting coolant on the belt if you can always sounds like a wise idea though. On our Subaru, I have had issues with belt squeal but that was because I didn’t tighten the tension enough. A bit more tension and the squeal stopped. So if yours is squealing, try adding a little more tension on the belt (but obviously not TOO much). Thanks for watching!

    13:20 so I actually had no issue doing the u-joint with the centering yolk (by luck as much as anything, I'm sure) One key thing: I left the caps on the two bearings that were going into the centering yolk, I only removed the caps that were going in the u-joint cardon. With just those caps off, you get some wiggle room while seating the joint into the centering yolk cradle with the caps on I just pressed the centering yolk down first (you should see some red grease shoot out a tiny hole in the back of the yolk where it faces the u-joint). As I pressed the caps into the cardon, it had the effect of centering both of those spindles. Sorry I know that's a little difficult to visualize with words, but I hope that helps someone

      Every modern car radiator should have a drain valve on it. Where it's located and what it exactly looks like will vary. It should be at the lowest point of the radiator, though, probably by the coolant hose at the bottom of the radiator. If you search for the valve/petcock for your particular year/make/model, you can probably find a picture of what to look for. Good luck! Thanks for watching.

    The deposits are from adding the wrong type of coolant and tap water. Every engine has different types of metals used throughout the building process. The coolant is designed to minimize and extract the heat from the engine. This requires other minerals being used within the coolant that work with the metals of the engine. When you put the wrong coolant and tap water, it reacts to chemically to the compounds in the coolant., thus giving you the deposits.

      Thanks for watching, Richard. Update from January 2022: I installed this new TCM in June 2021. I went "problem free" until October 2021 - almost long enough to convince myself it was fixed. I cleared the codes and it behaved normally again. I'd pretty much at that point decided I'd just keep a code reader handy and when it does this, just clear the codes and it should resolve the problem for a while. In other words, just live with it. Unfortunately, the car got wrecked (other driver's fault) in December 2021 so we'll never really know if I'd have been able to actually solve this problem. So, sorry, nope - it didn't fix it in the long term. Good luck with yours!

    • @CarbonsDIYGarage
      @CarbonsDIYGarage 26 днів тому

      I'm pretty sure there's a little lip at the end of the arm that, when the lever is pushed all the way in, will drop down and basically lock the lever in place so it can't easily be removed. I don't see a good/easy way to slip a little screwdriver in there to try to lift that little arm up to 'unlock' it. I think the only option is probably to use a pair of needle nose pliers and pull (hard?) to get it out and hope the little plastic arm doesn't break? Or maybe run a longer wood/drywall screw into the middle (there's a little hole) and then use pliers to pull out on the screw? The screw method would have you pulling from the center so that might work better. If the little lever arm breaks, you can probably push it all the way through/into the a/c box (it might even drop out the floor vent) but then you've also broken that lever and need to buy a new one. Not great answers; might give you ideas, though. Thanks for watching the video; can you thumbs up it if it's earned it? (maybe even subscribe?)

    Thanks for the video. It's been a thankful looooong time since I've had to do this and I was nervous that something might have changed since the late 1970s. I do find it so infuriating that so many vehicles today fail to include really basic things like transmission fluid dipsticks.

    • @CarbonsDIYGarage
      @CarbonsDIYGarage 29 днів тому

      @@bobsansmal I totally agree! I’m sure they made the change either to prevent under-informed DIYers from wrecking the transmission, or to drive more people to the dealerships to get their service (likely the latter). I’m glad the video helped; thanks for watching.

    I was going to replace both the intake and exhaust actuators, but they're $71 each at O'Reilly's, I was told they were cheap, so now I'm thinking about just cleaning them, which one has the screen on the end, the intake side or exhaust side?

    • @CarbonsDIYGarage
      @CarbonsDIYGarage Місяць тому

      @johnreed7029 $71 each!? That's highway robbery. The link in the video description takes you to the parts I used, off Amazon. $25 total for both the intake and the exhaust! I don't have the car anymore, but for as long as I owned the car, we had no troubles with these replacement actuators. With respect to your question, I don't personally remember screens on the end. If you click the link for the parts in the video description (amzn.to/4fuUxwa) and look at the photos and the video, best I can tell there are no screens in the ends/bottoms of either intake or exhaust. Thanks for watching and good luck.
