This video was outstanding! As an amateur Jeeper I was able to not only replace the axle seals, but also the u-joints and flex hoses on my 2010 JK in one swoop!
Sir, you did such an outstanding job with this video. You were thorough and professional. I can’t say enough about your work. Thank you so very much for your diligence.
I just searchd the problem and your video explained it 1-1 straight to the point, never found anything explained this good on internet! Keep up the good work👍
Thank you! I never had the chance to learn how to fix vehicles. Your videos are clear, concise, and exactly what I see when I work on mine. Thank you so much!
Dude, thank you for this video. I literally followed step by step and got it done. The one thing that happened though is my shims fell out when I was removing the gear, but when I watched the rest of your video, I seen that you installed bevel out, luckily you showed that part or I would be in a world of hurt. Thanks again
A friend asked me to watch this vid and see what I thought about it. They did a good job except, over half of leaking axle seals that our shop have repaired in well over 2 decades (especially on the front Dana 30 and Dana 44) on Wranglers and even the early CJ’s can be traced to a bent axle tube(s). Most shops don’t realize this and if they suspect this problem don’t know how to correctly check for a bent tube. This problem can occur even on a Jeep with stock tires and little or no lift. If you have an axle seal that is leaking and the seal surface on the axle shaft is good and the seal surface looks good (and many look just like this) there is a high probability of a bent tube. Remember there’s a reason that seal is leaking, passenger cars are known to go deep into 6 figure mileage with no problems, Jeep’s (and many other 4x4’s) do not fare so well.
Just Jeeps! Only Jeeps! Jeeps are the only 4x4 stock vehicle I have heard of that can’t go 100000 miles without needing tons of wrench time. The amount of time and money I put into my wife’s Jeep is ridiculous. It has 120000 miles on it and I spend twice as much time and money in comparison to my 1998 H1 that is off road regularly and used for towing.
I've got 230k on my 2012. I do general maintenance but should do more preventative maintenance on it. It has issues on wear parts and the radiator tank just cracked but it's been in every climate from -50 to 110 with no major issues. As for the H1? After my time in the Army, no thanks.
I like that you cleaned all the parts before reinstalling. The only thing I do more is add antiseize to the bolts that hold the bearing hub and around the hub itself when I put it in the housing. It will make my life easier next time. Thx for the video.
Thanks so much for this video, wish I could do it in 18 minutes! We appreciate the information you supplied us as we are in Australia with Jeep support being very average and overpriced here. No armed with the video I’m now game to do it myself.
I had 2 E Torx bolts (bearing) that were stripped from sometime in the past. I couldn't get a grinder in to cut. Lots of penetrating oil and sweet talk got it. Added a bunch of time to the repair 🫤.
Thank you so much for this video. I may not be able to to this myself, but it'll help me explain better when I take to the mechanic. It also gives me an idea what the problem is about.

Great video - Professional Tip - Never *ever* install a seal without lubricating the seal surface. I realize that there is gear lube on one side of the seal, but with a double-lip seal you HAVE to lubricate it or you will burn up the dry seal in short order...
Thanks for your video, I will try it soon right now I see in my JKu also this seal place outside is sweating. After two month I will replace too Regards
My 2008 just started leaking on the passenger side. I have the Dana 44, and It looks like too much work for a do it yourself er. I am going to have to take it to a shop Tomorrow. EERRRR! Money Pit these JKU's are.
Great video thanks so much. Question: With regard to the torque wrench, why do you use the digital torque wrench sometimes but other times the clicker one?
Had this job done on my jk back in July now it’s October and it’s leaking again. Not been off road or any hard driving. What would cause that? It was done at the dealer under warranty
I might be over thinking this, but when you put the axles back in will they just slide in easily?? I put my seals in today and then the gears and got the cover sealed and put back on. I did have to hammer w a rubber mallet to get the gears in all the way. I guess i would have benefited from a case spreader. So I went to put one axle in and it gave me resistance, so I stopped and left it that way. So I just want to make sure that is normal. I have never done any work w taking an axle apart, so I'm totally new at this and don't want to mess anything up. Is there anything specific I should know?? Thanks in advance. 😊
I went through the same thing. If you didn’t use a mopar pinion seal use one. The aftermarket pinion seals are different. Replaced with factory one and never had another issue
Has anybody done the same on a rubicon? I know there is some pin on the back that needs to be pushed out or in? After installation of the gears for electronic lockers I believe.
I came across Repair Geek doing a Rubicon. His was a newer one that had electric activation. Comments mentioned a pin but I did not see anything in the video which was done last year.
I have a 2011 Jeep wrangler unlimited Sahara that sputters and misses badly only when drive mode, but runs normally when in park and the DTC shows PO300, PO138 and P1128 codes. I've replaced all of the sparkplugs, wires, coil pack and checked for possible vaccum leaks with non being found, but I still have the sputtering, shaking and misfiring when I put it in drive. Can anyone please provide me with a possible solution to my problem? I'll certainly appreciate it... My last resort would be a trip to the dealership, but I'm trying to hold off for now.
If you are in Florida look up Pit Stop in Sarasota. The ace mechanic there, Rainman Ray (his channel), has tremendous troubleshooting skills. The problem with "stealerships" is that they throw parts at a problem. I suspect the majority of the mechanics don't have a clue as to how to properly diagnose a problem like yours. Good luck.
This video was outstanding! As an amateur Jeeper I was able to not only replace the axle seals, but also the u-joints and flex hoses on my 2010 JK in one swoop!
Wish this dude was my mechanic. Positive attitude, knowledgeable, & is thorough. Hard to find a good mechanic like this

Great video, just bought my granddaughter her first Jeep and seal is leaking. Have great guy doing work, your video proof it is above my pay grade

I have an oil seal leak on my wife's 17 JK I'm going to DIY it ..thanks for the video really helpful

This feels like the perfect opportunity to upgrade to a locking differential. Thoughts,
You can tell this guy went to school for this stuff. Very methodical
Thanks for the video. Mine is leaking on the driver's side. While I am repairing the frame I can tackle this too.
How many hours from start to finish? Great video. Cheers
As a Jeep owner.... it’s a good three hours or so.
@9:10 - I would not be using anything sharp to clean off the old gasket. I recommend using a putty knife or something similar made from plastic.
You made it look easy! Great video! 👍
My wife's 2021 JL already has leaking front axle at only 41000 miles
Great video! Gonna tackle this tomorrow
Thanks for your video, I will try it soon right now I see in my JKu also this seal place outside is sweating. After two month I will replace too
Regards
Its bent tube becouse again leaking from seals after change by new ones
Thank you! This video saved me a lot!
very nicely explained that you so much for your enlightenment
Why didn't you put some grease or Anti-seize on the inside of the knuckle where it mates to the wheel bearing?
Excellent video!
Excellent vid....very well done!
Excellent video.
I would like to ask , if possible how much would a repair job like this cost me at a real mechanic’s auto repair shop?
My 2008 just started leaking on the passenger side. I have the Dana 44, and It looks like too much work for a do it yourself er. I am going to have to take it to a shop Tomorrow. EERRRR! Money Pit these JKU's are.
Thanks, great content!
How long is the process?
Great content
great video you make it look so easy .
Do I have to remove both sides if only one seal is leaking? Can I still get to it? or just replace both while it is all apart?
Are there internal seals and external seals on the axel seals?
Great videos can you do jeep wrangler automatic transmission fluid and filter change video not much videos on UA-cam showing that
Chingon, gracias amigo
Excellent video! Thank you.
Great video thanks so much. Question: With regard to the torque wrench, why do you use the digital torque wrench sometimes but other times the clicker one?
Great Video, thx mate!
It's old issue of Jeep's. Long right axle wearing own satellite sprocket, and become mobility. Seal can't hold it, and leaking.
Had this job done on my jk back in July now it’s October and it’s leaking again. Not been off road or any hard driving. What would cause that? It was done at the dealer under warranty
only thing i'd do different is put the cover on after axle reinstall & wipe the seal with lube/grease so axle doesnt nick it
Excellent video - thank you.
+WBOS72 Thanks for the feedback!
Excellent😊

definitely helpful video for a diyr as myself. thanks !
Great video - thanks.
How many hours for this job?
you're AWESOME thank you !!
Great video thanks , 👍
what fluid do you use in the diff? does it have the additive in it already?
I like the guy :) very professional video thank you
No carrier bearing preload?
Do you have a video about replacing the rear pinion seal? I changed mine and its leaking again.
+Goody 2 Wheels Great question! Check out our library for more videos here: 1aau.to/m/video-library-c
I went through the same thing. If you didn’t use a mopar pinion seal use one. The aftermarket pinion seals are different.
Replaced with factory one and never had another issue
Definitely use a Spicer pinion seal. If it's a Dana axle, use Dana/Spicer parts imho. 99% of the time in my experience, no issues whatsoever.
Very thorough, Thanks
Well done. Thanks. 👍🏽✌🏽

So can you remove 1 seal without removing both axles?
no you need the both axles out in order to remove the carrier.
You should be teaching at a tech school
Nice 👍

+Miki Miki Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Thanks. I replaced both my seals, but now it makes a testable gears sound when I put it into 4wd. What is most likely the problem?
Let's count how many times he says "of course!"
Why don't auto manufacturers put 2 seals instead of one? You kno a plan b seal
My bet is that they would both go out at the same time if its due to age.
I can pretty much guarantee that if they put in an outer seal it would get destroyed in short order doing any kind of off road (dust, sand, gravel).
Disconnect Negative Battery terminal should be the first step.
