This is the Krueger family. You might know Bill Krueger former major league baseball player with the Oakland As and Seattle Mariners, among other teams. He and his wife, Jo, have a 16-year-old daughter with autism. They say shes recovered, and as youll see in the video, she is thriving. They share all the secrets from diet to therapies to their at-home activities that made Chanel better. Shes gone from a non-verbal 3-year-old to a chatty, funny, delightful teenager. And the family? They are the exception to the average 80% divorce rate for families of children with autism. Theyve stayed together through all their struggles. My son's teacher called my wife and I in to talk one day when we went to pick him up. She tiptoed around a while until she finally blurted out "Have you considered having him checked for Asperger's?" I was unsure why she would ask such a thing as he was not having any problems in school that I hadn't dealt with. I figured that that he was just a little different like me. I am an engineer and it is expected that we can't communicate well with humans. Fast forward a year, we were both diagnosed with high functioning ASD at the same time. Through this process I did the engineer thing and researched ASD like my life depended on it. It was an earth shattering experience to find out that there was a reason that I was different. It was even more surreal to find out that I had passed it on to my son. I had spent most of my youth learning to pretend to be like everybody else, learning to laugh at the right time, learning to smile, learning to speak faster, learning the social cues that most people understand from birth, etc... The best way for me to describe being gifted with Autism is live being a Vulcan from Star Trek: Next Generation. Inside you have lots of feelings and emotions but the rest of the world can never see it. Unlike a Vulcan it is not voluntary for us. To get a glimpse check out Metallica's "One" music video.
It’s not expected that engineers don’t know how to communicate, they just don’t. Like, what? It’s actually incredibly frustrating and irritating of engineers to be like this when every other branch of business is expected to know how to communicate. You’re just entitled assholes.

I really hope you're right about this. I spent 48 years suffering because, as an autistic, we are REALLY good at masking, pretending to be someone else to please those around us. So much so that even I didn't know what was making me so unhappy (but ONLY from my late 20's). Please make sure, she's young enough and smart enough that she my just be hiding her nature, even without knowing it (especially if you are religeous, this ended up destroying my sanity). Said with hope and love.

I know you made this video a while ago but I just found it while researching autism since my 4 year old son was just diagnosed with ASD in 2018, it gives me a lot of hope! I’m not looking for a cure but I just wish for him to be as verbal as you daughter is! And independent!! And by the way Mason was also born on October 11th just like your daughter ☺️

Just came across this video. ..you have given me so much hope, our daughter was diagnosed with asd last year at age 4. Like your daughter, it was a tremendous struggle to have someone pinpoint what was "wrong" with her. She currently attends a typical public school, in a typical classroom with an iep, and attends an after school program at Kennedy kreiger Institute 3 days a week. I loved your comment about "giving it time" everybody tells me to do that but it's scary and hard! Your daughter is beautiful and sweet, I will take your advice! well i got 4 sons that got autism 15, 5, 4, and 3 yrs old. delayed in speech, tantrum, arm swings, no eye contact and no social skills. i will do what the best i can.
You should have stopped having more children, after the first two were diagnosed. I hope you have a long term plan in place. For when you can no longer care for their needs.

Wow, this girl has gotten really good at masking thanks to her parents. But I sense the autistic in her from second one. Great that she is verbal, but she has big struggles ahead of her. Dealing with the pain of parents who feel you are someone that needed to be fixed...

To say someone grows out of autism is wrong. My 18-year-old son was diagnosed at 2. Had a lot of early intervention. But I can tell you, he did not grow out of it. In fact, meltdowns in teens and panic attacks got worse. It's been an incredibly challenging journey.

In alot of cased autism should be cured. It's not an identity, some people with autism consider it to be a disease.
Totally agree autism is not a disease, and people should not talk about curing it. Just because you have autism does not mean anything is wrong with you. Yes people can learn to "function" in a more socially excepted way but no matter what level an autistic person functions at they should not be viewed as having a disease.
Autism is a neurological condition, you don’t cure it. You place supports in for the individual (therapies, tailored education plan, work on keeping/growing healthy family environment...) so they get what they need during those crucial developmental years and beyond to be their most healthiest, well rounded self. I agree it is not a disease, and an individual should not be treated as such.
Autism is NOT a disease! I have it, and have been labelled as a faker. I’m not faking, and autistic people should be able to live their own lives, to their fullest potential. They shouldn’t be taught to “ mask”

She's around her parents all the time when they are laughing, joking, and being supportive to each other. In this new social interaction she is just duplicating what she thinks she should be doing.
I know because I've done this too. Upon arriving at a funeral I made a joke when I saw my, NT, brother. He didn't respond. Previously, Every time I saw my brother and his friends it was always laughter, and joking. I didn't change to fit the new somber environment.

Bill acknowledged that many families have two working parents with, maybe, multiple children so the resources and time are not as available to everyone. Jo expanded on this by saying that schools often don't know what to do with these special needs children. I'd go one further to say some familes have only one parent and many schools are in such disarray that classroom management is the best that can be hoped for-let alone special services.

I think when these children watch Disney movies they become traumatized by the evil characters in them because at that age they cannot determine between reality and a movie.
please dont give up freind, sometimes i think that i suffer from autism more than my 4 yr old because he is happy and a pretty functional little boy who does not realize that he "suffers" from autism while i cry myself to sleep some nights and feel helpless. but i do know that he is the most perfect and precious soul that i have ever known, i feel sure that you feel the same of your child. they never earned the condition they are in, i hope you dont mind if i include you in my prayers.

If the world was not so cruel n treat each other like everyone they have cooties! From a father who has a autistic daughter there is no cure but they learn to adapt to their surroundings! For any family who has a special needs child kudos to you! It is not easy but so rewarding! I have seen so much thru my daughters eyes I would not trade it for a thing in this universe! As a society we need to not stare n give advice when you don’t know what is going on! I don’t give you advice on your “normal” child nor would I! I don’t live with your child but would welcome and love them as I do my own! So ask yourself could you welcome my special needs child into your life n love her as much as you can? Because God in heaven seen something special in me to care for this special precious human being! Love overcomes everything we need to listen n learn from one another! Patience people! God didn't cause Autism or any disease or disfunction. Man did, with toxins, chemicals and genetic manipulation. God gives us cures for ALL that ails us, just most aren't in relationship with Him, to hear Him when He speaks or offers healing. Autism isn't wonderful. So many kids are suffering. I have to believe that all those arguing that they don't want a cure are either trolls, too lazy to put in the hard work or they have only a mild form of Autism and love the attention and being told that they are "special." Every single human being is special, even if they are completely healthy and happy in every way. Having Autism doesn't make you more special that anyone else. Pride comes before the fall.

Thank you so much, for sharing this, it gives me hope, that my only son, will recover from Austism , his just 3 years old, his so lovely, he always mumble, and I knows that he wants to talk, he can count up to 1-10, he can sing nursery rhymes, but there's no sentence. But the doctor already diagnosed him. But as a mother I know that one day he will recover like you😭😭

I wish I would have seen this video 12 years ago there is help out through the Sunrise program and the Autism Treatment Center I struggle with Autism when I was little and I was able to come out of through hope help and my Dedicated parents and Teachers there are things that I still struggle with but able to overcome these Challenges Excepting attitude and a Message of hope I'm a believer that everyone can have the Same opportunity!!

I have autism I was diagnosed at the age of seventeen because I was high functioning so they thought I was just a naughty child but I got jumped On the trail behind my high school and after losing my two front teeth it all just poured out of me at once I wouldn't talk for months on end I had trouble getting back into school which delayed my education by about a half a year I had to see counsler after therapist after psychologist test after test after test and finally I was just confused as fuck

Finally, the comment I was looking for. She's learned some social skills and how to adapt, but she's by no means cured. It's visible in the video, she's not confortable, she still drops the mask at some points. I hope she doesn't feel pressured to keep the mask on full time and deny her feelings non-stop. And I hope she knows it's ok to unmask and that there's nothing wrong with the way she is.
I do wish you well Bill. Felix is not able to throw overhand which would change his pitches spin axis and the type of pitches he is merely a base thrower at. If you would like to be a real pitcher again for real or just not be a retired know it all in traditional pitching motion that killed your career as with all mere throwers like Ardsmaa and you and now Felix.

I am going to speack through my perspective as a person with Autism: You cannot cure, overcome, or recover from Autsim. It is a lifelong condition. A person will forever have Autistic traits. However, an autistic like myself can learn to cope in society. I don't think she has been "cured", she just learned how to cope into the norms of society and to speak as a neurotypcal person. I'm not trying to sound like i'm demeaning her. She has accomplished and will accomplish so much. We autistics are truly just as smart as anyone else and nothing to be ashamed of. I am not ashamed of being autistic. People often make me feel that having autism is a terrible disease that I need to get rid of, but really autism is nothing to be afraid of (I'm fairly certain I have PTSD because of people trying to make me feel ashamed and trying make me "normal"). I have been told once that I have been so called "Cured" but I know that I haven't. I just have learned to cope with the social norms.

wow your daughter is beautiful! you guys are an inspiration to all of us who have someone in the family with autism. i hope eventually that this horrible disability will be cured for all and not for just a small percent. doctors and scientists need to place emphasis on better understanding of what autism is and how the brain deals with this ailment. in our lifetimes a cure will be found. 1 out of 88 kids have it, a cure needs to be found asap

I would like to add something, a lot of people don’t understand what autism is, if the physical body is unable to detox and metabolise certain chemicals it could lead to autistic symptoms, because it can impair neurological function, the main underlying condition I had was being intolerant to phenols and salicylate, that was exacerbating my symptoms because it was affecting my physical body so much, that is how I cured my autistic symptoms, by going on a low phenol/salicylate diet, look at the symptoms of salicylate intolerance and autism they are very similar, I have a channel called “mind of mind” that helps people reduce their autistic symptoms
attractive parents = cute kid. this is kinda freaky because they are sitting around reminiscing about their child's "disability" and you can tell she LOVES to talk about it. I guess if it makes her happy but I doubt she will have ANY problems in life from the way she sounds and the way she looks she will be just fine I believe. I know I am generalizing or looking at it too simplistically but big picture she seems pretty normal and is going to be a knockout with a rich husband like her mom!
Wonderful story! Thank you! I just wanted to clarify that autism is not a mental illness. Also autism is for life. Yes, the symptoms of it will decrease over time with intervention but someone with autism will not become fully neurotypical. Coping mechanisms and strategies can be learned and masking and acting the neurotypical ways to be able to fit in can be learned but autism is not something you can fully "recover" from. Externally it might seem like someone has because of the way they have learned to act and socialize but it is still there internally and the struggles with anxiety, sensory overload, etc. are still an issue to some extent. Congratulations to this wonderful parents that have done so much for their dear daughter.

How about addressing the core issues - like WHY do these children get autism. It does not come from nowhere. It does NOT disappear on it's own, HOWEVER, you CAN find ways to improve and take away the things that are harmful and definite causes of autism - like EMF/EMR, non-organic foods, contaminated water, ETC.

People are always saying to me, *"Well, I got all my vaccines, why didn't I get Autism or some other adverse reaction"?* Here are some of the factors that influence whether or not a child will have a vaccine reaction.These are factors that will increase your chances of getting Autism or some other vaccine reaction from the normal 1 in 68 (recent data increases these odds) 1) Being born Male..........Boys develop Autism at a rate of about 4 to 1 compared to girls because the female hormones have a protective effect (girls appear to get auto immune diseases later in life instead of Autism). 2) Lower age at vaccination..............Premature infants that are vaccinated are much more likely to have all kinds of issues up to and including Autism. Delaying the MMR past 18 months decreases your chances of Autism. 3) Youth.............Older people just didn't receive as many vaccines. 4) Increased total load of toxins from the environment............Example; If you live near a plant that is putting out Mercury waste (coal power plants in the past) or if you have lead in your drinking water from old pipes, this will add to and interact with the vaccine ingredients. This makes it more likely your body will be pushed past its detox limits. 5) MTGFR gene mutation and other genetic factors............When you have these genetic factors your body has impaired detox pathways. This causes the toxic metals such as Aluminum and Mercury to build up faster in the body and increases your chances of Autism or a vaccine reaction. 6) Catch up vaccinations.............The more vaccines you receive at one time the greater your chance the body will be overwhelmed. 7) Vaccinating while sick...............In the past people were rarely vaccinated when they were sick. Babies are more frequently vaccinated while they are sick nowadays to keep them on the schedule. This can overwhelm their detox pathways and immune system and can lead to Autism or another vaccine reaction. 8) Antibiotic use around the time of vaccination.............Antibiotic are known to make a person more susceptible to vaccine toxic overload. 9) Taking an Acetaminophen product along with vaccinations to reduce fever and pain............This appears to reduce the body's ability to detox and makes you more likely to be a silent carrier of viruses found in modified live vaccines that are found in the guts of Autistic children in some studies. 10) Maternal immune activation............When the mother's immune system is activated during the pregnancy by extreme stress, some sort of infection (a modified live vaccine or vaccine adjuvants???), etc, the chances of your child developing Autism or another vaccine reaction increase. (This may also be contributing to total toxic load because most of this load is transferred directly to the fetus via the placenta).
This is a list of SOME of the many factors that can increase or decrease your chances of Autism or another vaccine reaction. Can any one tel me how is it possible
I have a 9 year old daughter that has been labeled autistic by the school system. They thought that because she learned to speak with ecolalia. She interacts with other children now to a limited degree I believe because of a commnication deficit. BUT she doesn't have tantrums, he isn't a difficult child, no one knows that anything is wrong with her other than her communication deficit and because of that social limitations. I have never told her she has been labeled with this. Should I?
Reply way after post...but want to encourage you. I hope you trusted yourself to know whether to tell her about the diagnosis, or wait to perhaps discover a more accurate assessment, or confirmation of diagnosis. You are her mother, no one loves her more or wants better for her--comes across loud and clear in what you wrote!
I have a very hard time believing autism can be 'cured' at all. And even if it's possible, it shouldn't be necessary!
I think the best way to deal with autism is to just accept it as a part of yourself en stop fighting it!
People act like it's a disease that needs to be cured. Autism is not the problem! The problem is how bad society seems to misunderstand it! And most parents too lets face it.. Eventhough they try there very best am sure.
My point is, it's just not fair to push people to chance, just because YOU have difficulties dealing/understanding (with) them.

+GHW Please do not do this to your child I have moderate autism and was never diagnosed until recently it was not being "locked away inside themselves" it was trying to act normal that lead to my literal breakdown and diagnosis all you will be doing to your child is teaching them to bottle up and suppress the behavior that comes naturally to them because of their mental condition, and whether or not you're still alive the bottle will burst open. This behavior is as natural as eating when you're hungry to autistic children and adults, suppressing it will do nothing except create stress and an almost inevitable breakdown

RikB251087 "Autism is not a disease". Look at the word dis-ease. It means that your body is not at ease.When you have the bowel troubles and pain in your head that many Autistics have, is your body at ease? If not, you have a dis-ease, even though it might not be an infectious disease.

I'm sorry but this girl isn't recovered, the way she talks is slightly off and she's kind of awkward.. As other's say she's just learned to adapt and essentially become a better "actress."
As someone who worked with autistic children for years, i can understand your feelings. I do believe that some autistic kids can only improve to a certain degree and not be "cured". Aspergers is def one of the easier ones on the spectrum to work with on improvements. There are diets and therapies though that have shown incredible results in kids with severe autism. Every child is different and will respond according to their brain's abilities. Don't give up tho. Best wishes.
