www.trusera.com/health/collections/autism Our 16-year old daughter Chanel has autism. Early on, we discovered that using puppets helped our then non-verbal five year old learn to interact and communicate. One amazing resource in our journey was a speech therapist, who happened to look like a Muppet. Chanel responded to him like no other person, and she progressed rapidly. That inspired an idea:...

To say someone grows out of autism is wrong. My 18-year-old son was diagnosed at 2. Had a lot of early intervention. But I can tell you, he did not grow out of it. In fact, meltdowns in teens and panic attacks got worse. It's been an incredibly challenging journey.

Stop suggesting autism goes away with therapies. People like you are the reason parents abuse their kids with ABA and unscientific miracle cure substances.

Autism is a neurotype. It's not a disease. It can't -- and doesn't need to be -- cured. What you see here is a child that was either misdiagnosed, or is a child that is still autistic, but has learned coping mechanisms (or how to mask) and you've seen a change in behaviors due to a variety of factors. Autistic people, on the whole, can be happy, regulated, social, and all of those other things -- when their needs are met. Videos like this only add to the stigma that autistic adults and children face. You can't "recover" from autism. But you can be an autistic person who is thriving because your needs are being met. Nothing they've done has changed this girl's brain wiring. It can't. But some things (like diet, sensory play, occupational therapy, connection, genuine friendships and understanding) definitely help decrease dysregulation and increase quality of life.

I live near Eindhoven in the Netherlands. A "normal" quota for Autism is about 80 per 10.000 (if i am correct) Near Eindhoven it's about 230 per 10.000. We have a large ICT sector with ASML (company) Hightec campus and the Tech University in the same city. Most of them will be high functioning Autistics. Most of us know at least 1 person that has ASD. I cant imagin there are people who never heard of autism before. The big difference between dutch kids and american kids are the expectations laid upon them before they are even born. Amarican kids need to be little grown-ups and straight A students all the time because they need to make big money when they grow up. Dutch kids are children. I have never heard of a dutch parent who needs to grieve because the kid cant live up to the expectation of being a succesfull lawyer etc. Maybe i am wrong. ( i love to hear it if i am, i never met one and i know a lot of autistics)

How do they not know she's clearly still autistic and why did these parents never take time to actually learn about her (lifelong) condition? She's literally got a different neurotype and they're acting like they "cured" her, but all that happened is she learned to constantly mask which will most likely hurt her in the long run. I feel bad for this girl
