As you can probably now tell, we really love this Dungeon. The quests, the lore, the architecture, the ambiance, all come together to make Classic SFK one of a kind. How do you feel about Classic SFK?

SFK was the very first dungeon I did in 2005. I was a troll mage back then and I remember those 2 people from my guild who talked me into this for like 15 minutes because of that sweet decurse ability. 45 minutes later they managed to guide me to the entrance portal just to find out another 20 minutes later that I didn't buy the decurse skill. Ah, the good ol' days.

Sounds a lot like my first dungeon (Deadmines), also as a mage. They brought me along for the additional CC. I didn't even know what the hell CC was, but I was too afraid to ask, thinking they'd kick me out for being too big a noob. So, we go in and they start marking mobs and the group leader is like: 'Alright, mage, you CC the dude marked with circle.' I thought CC just meant 'keep the mob busy by attracting its attention so the tank doesn't get overrun.' Got pwned real fast ofcourse but they were real chill about it and explained what they wanted me to do.
When you think about stuff like that, you're going: 'Damn, I was such a fucking NOOB back then.' But you still think fondly of those days. Some of my sweetest memories are from Vanilla and TBC.

As an Alliance player, SFK is not a usual haunt. Yes, some take the trek, but this dungeon is usually missed by the Alliance half. I do remember my first time running it though. A real-life friend of mine playing a gnome mage sent me a whisper saying he needed my help. I agreed and set out. I didnt even know where this place was. I just knew Alliance was not welcome there. And the NPCs and players alike let us know. Once in, i was very impressed with the Castlevania-esque feel of the place. Wiped a few times, but we got to the end and slew Arugal.
And incase you were wondering... my mage friend got his robes.

Ah the Robes of Arugal! My first character, a shadow priest, wore those for quite some time. This was favorite lower level dungeon. Scholomance and Stratholme were the others in my top three. Scarlet Monastery was much beloved as well! It's a shame that they were all ruined!

There were several reasons to adore SFK farming:
    1. The dungeon had a ton of bosses. This meant that you could gear up in a hurry by running through this dungeon and the consistancy with which they dropped some of the gear made it super reliable; that first boss dropped a set of leather shoulders that gave out a +8 to agility and could be equipped by folks who were level 18 and as such just about everyone grabbed them since that was a solid bonus for anyone.
    2. Plentiful greens. Maybe it was the plethora of adds or just something about the dungeon, but this place seemed to drop a lot of greens. Now granted, randomly generated loot is sketchy, but it also means you could snag some odds and ends to help gear up, sell them on AH or DE them if you were an enchanter.
    3. Skinners paradise. Prior to Cataclysm, worgen were skinnable and that meant that half the adds in the dungeon would provide light, medium and occasionally even heavy leather; I was able to grind my ass to 200 skinning just by farming this place ad nauseum, and I have fond memories of my paladin farming this place in my late twenties for stacks of leather to sell on AH.
    4. To the point. Unlike some of the other dungeons in classic, SFK was pretty much one straight line (so people never got lost like in wailing caverns) and could be completed by a semi competent group in about an hour which meant that people could do it 3 or 4 times in an afternoon and that meant that you built frendships and trusts.
    5. Forgiving. Also, since the dungeon wasn't really high level a fury warrior could pull on a shield or a shadow priest could try and heal; it wasn't ideal but it was feasible to do if you were careful.

SFK was a Dungeon masterpiece! it was the first lvl 20+ dungeon i went to back in vanilla, you needed to think and play as a grp about CC's and patroling npcs if not it was a wipe that is what made this the perfect dungeon in my opinion.
i miss the commucation we needed back then to get through the dungeon not like today we just qq up get summoned in then everyone just does random shit until the dungeon is over then they leave in a heartbeat...

  • @Xylarxcode
    @Xylarxcode 5 років тому +2

The thing I remember most about this dungeon is that it had a very low chance of dropping a BoE dagger that was highly desired by twink rogues who would pay ridiculous amounts of gold for one. A friend of mine actually got lucky enough to see the dagger drop on one of his runs AND he managed to get the winning roll on it. His party flew into a rage and argued and bitched and moaned, but he just ditched them and ended up hustling back to SW to sell it. Didn't take him long, because he managed to sell it that very same day for 300 gold (that was A LOT of gold, back then). For us low level noobs, 300 gold was an almost unfathomable amount of cash and it felt like you just watched someone win the lottery. And that's where his luck ended, because shortly after that he could no longer afford the subscription fees and I didn't see him online again until well into TBC, when his 300 gold fortune was ... less impressive...

I remember SFK fondly because it really helped me understand my CC potential as a mage. All because of that hay filled room with ghost wolves and worgen. Anybody who did SFK in vanilla probably know what I'm talking about.
However, that actually wasn't my first experience with SFK. The first time I went in...makes me cringe and grin all at the same time. The first time I did SFK we had an asshole in the group that was as selfish as you can imagine. He was an undead rogue named Lickmyballz. I'm not even joking about that. He was also our party leader. He gave us all shit the whole time, even before we got into the instance. He taunted the healer, he taunted me, calling me a noob for picking the vending machine for a class and telling me my gear was shit even though his was no better. I ignored him. We also had a tauren warrior who was our tank, the others I don't remember. When I first entered, I was definitely in awe of the place. I remember the eerie music and how when the music was silent all I could hear was the wind and a wolf howling in the distance. I would have remembered it more fondly if it wasn't for Lickmyballz barking orders at us. I remember him telling me to not decurse people because it's extra XP or something.
Anyway, there used to be a spot in SFK where you can actually fall off and get ported outside the instance(don't know if it's still possible now). Our tank had a lag spike and accidentally walked off, got ported out of the instance and fell down the cliffs. I was already running back to the entrance to use the summoning stone even before our tank apologetically requested a summon. Lickmyballz told him "No nooblet fuck ass you fell you get to walk back" which was completely ridiculous because the only way our tank could get back was to hearth to org, take the zep to UC then the FP to sepulcher and run all the way south to the instance.
I said "No, c'mon one of you, just help me summon, it's no big deal." the other two agreed and one of them was already on his way to help me.
Our tank just said "Yes please, thank you."
Lickmyballz got furious at us, saying, "NO, HE'S A FUCKING NOOB IN THE FIRST PLACE HE WALKS OR I KICK HIM."
We tried to reason with him, I even defended the tank by saying "No, it wasn't his fault, he lagged and accidentally walked off. It happens. Just let us summon him, it's much faster."
Lickmyballz wouldn't listen to reason. "IM THE LEADER OF THIS GROUP. NONE OF YOU WOULD BE HERE WITHOUT ME. YOU DO AS I SAY WHEN I SAY YOU SCRUBS. AND ANYBODY WHO TRIES TO HELP HIM WILL GET KICKED TOO!" We were already a decent way through the dungeon so none of us wanted to get kicked. All of us apologized to our tank and he told us it was okay and that he was already on his way back.
We were whispering each other, trying to find a way to get back at Lickmyballz. Karma beat us to it though. While the others and I were toying with the idea of ninja looting something from him, he was in the background, jumping around. Just as our tank made it to the entrance of the instance, guess who gets a lag spike and jumps clear off the edge. In all my years of playing video games, there are very few things that have ever compared the satisfaction if seeing that jackass eat his own words.
All three of us that were standing there just typed LOL and HAHA in chat so much that our tank was confused. Lickmyballz kept demanding that we summon him but we just kept laughing. I don't know about the other two but I hardly had any air in my lungs to breath let alone the self control to calm down enough to type. When we finally told the tank what happened, the tank said "Well, guess you gotta walk back. Ha ha."
To say Lickmyballz was pissed is an understatement. He kept demanding us to summon him. I said "Our tank is back, we don't need you." so we went on to clearing the next room all with Lickmyballz barking orders at us. He eventually left the group and we all /cheered. Just then, my warlock friend who was the same level as me came online and I told him we were doing SFK and asked him to join. He did, we summoned him and I was finally able to enjoy SFK for what it was. My favorite part was my lock buddy and I were the pinnacle of teamwork when it came time to CC that first pull in the hay filled room with the ghost wolves and worgen, you know the one. He had his voidwalker off tank a mob, I sheeped another mob, then I slowed another while he dotted it up. It was just awesomeness in spades that day.

I'm sorry but i have to disagree. Dungeons in WoW have ALWAYS been top notch. WoD had some SUPERB dungeons. Regardless how damn short that expansion was, it left us with some of the best dungeons in years! Auchindon, Iron Docks, Skyreach, ShadowMoon Burial Grounds and of course Grim Rail Depot! Best fucking dungeon ever! (i love trains). Legion had a share of annoying dungeons but let me tell you something, as a BIG WOW LORE NERD i had been waiting for Black Rook Hold for years! the ravencrest legacy? fucking yeah! And Maw of Souls... a ghost ship? cmon! And court of starts? one of the best rpg dungeons in decades! with so many interesting and unique features and mechanics! i mean cmon! theres a mini game of "guess who" just to get to the last boss! I loved every inch of that place. Oh and Karazhan? Man, did you run that place???? I hate revamps. I hate what they did to SM and Scholo... But Kara was NOT a revamp... we HAVE old kara.. AND the new one compliments it SO well! I want more like that. New dungeons that respects the original, as in we can run the original but also have the new one, and the new one is a worth continuation of the original lore?
And BfA is following the trend of memorable dungeons. Waycrest Manor is the haunted house dungeon we always wanted. In many respects remind me of SFK. The story is gold. Is the culmination of everything in Durstvar, till the revelation the one behind everything is the very lady Waycrest, the mother of the person we been helping tru the whole zone! And the reazon she did everything was cuz she was desperate to keep her husband alive! Then we have Atal'dazor, king's rest, Tol'dagor, Underroot, Seralis Temple, hell, i don't like open world dungeons, but Siege of Boralus was fucking amazing!.
ALSO BTW. Of course you can navigate Vanilla dungeons blindfolded dude... is because you ran them way too many times....... Same happens to me... but i don't see that as a pro... i see it as a con... i know the vanilla dungeons so damn well that i can run them with my eyes closed... so easily that is boring... And i love them... but i did each one of them so many times that is hard for me to run tru all over again... I counted 100 runs tru UBRS, JUST IN VANILLA, just on my paladin, to get him the lightforged spaulders... and my paladin isnt even my main! I ran that place so many times just on my paladin that i even can tell you i LOST the roll on the Blade of Sharam... against the imba dwarf tank with tier 2 and thunderfury! most people don't even know that weapon exists... let alone seen it drop... is so rare.

@jose juan andrade I think the dungeons were OK, maybe a bit too easy though. I did not enjoy the game and that made me NOT enjoy the dungeons either. I did not enjoy any classes mechanics since WOD. I hated how all loot is about the same and meaningless. I honestly do not remember a single name of any loot since WOD... and i played WOD/Legion/BFA here and there. The game is just not for players like myself anymore. I am very happy you enjoyed it a lot though, dont get me wrong. I just wish i could too.

  • @UNDERDOGOD
    @UNDERDOGOD 5 років тому

My favourite thing about SFK as an alliance player was the journey to get there the VERY first time you travel to it. Running from Wetlands through to Silverpine forest and everything that falls inbetween really instills a sense of adventure, this experience in itself is an excellent moment to get to know your group and the world itself. From crossing the bridge to get to Arathi Highlands, and then seeing the great wall and broken portcullis that seperates it from Hillsbrad Foothills. Seeing Durnholde keep as you traverse further, until eventually hitting Silverpine forest where the tone of the world descends into a darkness that is only exhacerbated when you finally reach the dreaded Shadowfang Keep. And that, my friends, is only the beginning. ;) See you in Classic.

But blizzard really put in a lot of work with the gear for the dungeon. The loot really provides the cherry on top and gives that real motivation for doing the dungeon. The legendary Shadowfang 1H sword, the highest tier in the lvl 19 twinking bracket from Vanilla - Wotlk. Not really dungeon related, but it also helped that the class mechanics you tackled them with were more engaging (at least in cata, not sure about newer expansion).
      This being said, two things:
      1. There's something to doing a quest chain before you can get a dungeon quest. What they should have done, is have some quests inside the dungeon, but save some for the people "bothering" to do world content as well.

SFK was my very first dungeon. i had rolled a paladin (buff monkey) and on my questline to get a weapon, I had to go there. I went alone not knowing anything about dungeons and couldnt get past the first worgen. asked for help and dint want to leave. its probably the catalyst that got me hooked on WoW. this and vanilla Scarlet Monestary were my all time faves. I still go through SFK ocassionly but sadly is lost a lot of luster. Also there was a pretty decent staff drop in SFK, but i cant remember what and off who.
Great video, thanks for making it!

My favorite vanilla dungeon is Wailing Caverns. It is one the only noob stories I can remember. Trying to make my way to the instance itself. Getting lost once or twice die to how expansive it once was. *That damn jump, you had to time JUST RIGHT.* i still remind that leatherworking pattern vendor in a hidden cave above the main cavern.

People are giving Blizzard crap about how they are handling the game today (I Personally Blane Activision). I know they can redeem themselves, and they have two great things going for them,
1: They still care about the Lore
    2: They ARE listening
So even if they’re in a rut now, I know they can go from 1 to 10 in a single patch. They just need to remember “THEY ARE BLIZZARD”

My favourite part was definitely the switch between musics.
And the game tells you there « not only bosses can be annoying » when you encounter some trash mobs (anti-magic shield, aoe silence, the horrible curse, the ghost wolves that summon others, the curse that randomly reduces a skill...)
Very impressive work on a dungeon, but while SM was good, it’s behind this one. But both of them are behind the best dungeon ever made: the stockades !
