Most people don't know the electricity felt on the island every single time Tito got in the ring in his prime. One of a kind feeling.
How is the island going when Subriel Matias fight?
@@sanroqueboy6012 -- Definitely not the same.
Zayas is the one people are keeping an eye on the most. Hopefully he gets to the level of Tito and Cotto.
@@mini_worx damn. Why? Matias is a hell of a fighter. One of my favorites right now if not my favorite and im filipino
Good old days. Saturday nights after the fights were insane. Then sunday morning airports were pack waiting for Titos arrival.
@@sanroqueboy6012 -- Oh don't get me wrong, Subriel is a phenomenal boxer. Thing is, his rise to fame hasn't been as exciting as Zayas.
Subriel is 31yo and hasn't been on a major ppv event nor even a minor one like the one Zayas and Berlanga (Who sucks) had at MSG during the Puertorican parade weekend.
Zayas is only 20yo and has 10-15 years ahead of him if he stays healthy, so the support is more on the younger fighter than the older.
I expect, now that Berlanga has shown to be average, that the promoters may tie Subriel and Zayas as co-headliners on a Puertorican parade weekend or even a Mexican Independence weekend against top Mexican opponents.
Born in England 1979, been a life long fan that over the last 22yrs i have dedicated a massive chunk of my life to learning everything about the sweet science. Felix Tito Trinidad is my favourite fighter outside of the uk.
England 1980. I remember buying VHS tapes from the back of Boxing Monthly and one was Chavez Whitaker and I loved Julio but admired the skills of Pernell. Almost impossible to believe possible (similar to Floyd) but then as a teen watching Sky and the rise of Felix and Oscar I started to see how great he was and then I bought a VHS tape which included Tito against the Olympic medalist and it was 12 rounds of destruction. Anyway I remember thinking this fight would be for Pernell cos I thought he may have beaten Oscar but then...... Tito did some crazy stuff and just proved that Whitaker took his gambles that one fight too many against THE WRONG GUY! 😁😎..... I also later think his destruction of Joppy was one of the best examples of boxing of all time and then his loss to Hopkins was full of literature with that too! His name for me is nothing but respect and I always loved him. (Please excuse me if this was confusing and all over the place but my English compatriot you'll know that at this time of the day it's normal for us to maybe be slightly tipsy from the odd Vodka and red bull with a full pint as the chaser 😎😎😎...... that Olympic medalist!???? was poor David Reid... shame he got thrown to the ultimate Lion.... Thanks Google)
@@gavinbrando8255 that's great, funny you say about the back of boxing monthly, I used to swap and deal with a few chaps that advertised on it, my mate Terry I met on there I became good friends with. Its how I built my collection.

The pride of PR, reason for many to get in the sport. Remember as a kid he came through our school in a float with a caravan of cars, giving us candy and helping in a very humble rural barrio. He still supports the youth in sports, specially boxing. A lot of people do not know how much the whole island cheered and screamed to the point that we would lose our voice...and the way he was reveived at the airport when he would be back home in PR!!! The whole island paralized
He did the same in my high school by 2010 and I Believe he is still doing the same caravan in different schools of the island.
He spent the whole lunch break with the students talking and taking pictures. The most humble legend I can imagine. PR really loves this dude.
I saw Tito Trinidad fights as a teenager and I loved how everyone would get together and watch his exciting boxing matches
I loved Trinidad's way of throwing punches. He was beautiful to watch and a very elegant left hook.
“It seemed to call the warrior out of him”🔥🔥 Exactly how I wanna live my life. 7:48
Great boxer, his power diminished as he moved up in weight and even moving up in weight he went long distance with best in those division, but at his natural weight he was a beast!
He was good! Miss this era!!!
What a piece of content. Much respect!! 🙏🤙🥊
I don't even want to imagine what taking a Trinidad left hook felt like, especially to the stomach and liver. That little stumble by Garcia after their fight around 5:08 says it all.
@,the wondering... Nah, I could've agreed but Trinidad is a habitual nuts buster, which gets his opponents winded and he goes for kill with an inside left hook.

I was 8 years old in 1986 growing up in P.R. when i watched Camacho vs Rosario, the house was full of cousins and uncles cheering and screaming with such a passion that i couldn't help but to fall in love with boxing, then Tito came along, i was aware of all the leyends, like Gomez, benitez, etc..., and we embraced them all but there was nothing like Tito, his humble, charismatic personality, his big smile and the genuine love for his county and fans made the whole island love him like i never seen before with an athlete. The first time he lost against Bhop it felt like the whole country was grieving, it was very hurtful, after that i learned that you cant get emotionally invested in any fighter. Thanks Tito for so many happy memories 🙏.
Your experience mimics mine. (Sigo pensando que le robaron la pelea a Chapo). After that, the big middleweight battles with Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Barkley and the emergence of a guy named Tyson. A golden era for sure those last 15 years of the 20th Century.

There are a select few fighters across all weight classes who historically stand out all time for various reasons. Career, influence, eye test etc. We know who they are for the most part. No need to start naming here.
Then there's the tier right below them. All time greats in their own right. Tito Trinidad officially claimed his spot here after the Pernell Whitaker fight. Out of his prime or not, I'd never seen anyone do that to Sweet Pea. Tito man...what a fighter.

For those wondering, the Oscar de la Hoya fight deserves its own video.
That was a controversial decision and Tito ran like a bishAsssMF from the rematch.
Yes. I watched that fight live and was so disgusted with that decision.
@@TheJurgisRud Then Tito ran like a bishAssMF from a rematch.
I think he took it out of the video because "the fight of the century" as it was called, was boring as hell because De la Hoya refuse to fight Trinidad and instead decided to run and run and run around like he never did in any of his previous fights or any other fight in his career.
De la Hoya won that fight he was winning each round until about the 8th then he ran the last couple rounds and the judges punished him and gave the fight to Trinidad 😢

Tito was a monster with an impeccable left hook. BHOP executed a battleplan of destruction with excellence in Tito's twilight. Everything from start to finish was...sublime
Perfectly done, I would've liked mentioned the third glove (headbutts) on the Hopkins match since the low blows were spoken of against Trinidad. Also DeLaHoya controversial decision to be glossed over. The Mayorga fight was big too, and all the undefeated he took the perfect record from. Tito - he was brutal.
Tito is criminally underrated. Back when fighters didn't dodge opponents or waited decades to make a mega-fight happen, this dude basically killed everyone on welter and super welter divisions. He got outclassed at 160 and later 175 to kinda end his career on a low note, but his first 6-7 years dude was basically the best pound for pound in the world.

what people outside puerto rico may not know is that he was so beloved here, that after every right there was a HUGE amount of people going to the airport to receive him.
even after his first loss there was a massive amount of people giving him a heroe's welcome.
i dont remember any other boxer who gets such a welcome after LOSING......
not only was he extremely good at boxing, he was(and is) also extremely charismatic. if there's some charity that needs him, he's there. he treats everyone(at least in public, i've never interacted with him) with love and respect.
there was a year in which he won a championship fight and our mss universe representative won also.
there was a massive parade for both of them. she gave him her crown and she gave her his belt. it was all pretty awesome.

What about them illegal wraps Trinidad used in his fights?
Hopkins was an ex criminal…of course he wasn’t clean.
Tito was a cheater, low blows on Vargas, illegal hand wraps
He’s an amazing person as well as champ. You also could of add the famous slaps his dad use to give him in the corner and from that slap on he would just finish the opponents 😂😂. Amazing times
I been waiting for something on Tito!!! THANK YOU!!
Hopkins did his homework studying exactly what it would take to unlock him having invincibility against Trinidad. Beautiful execution. On point commentary.
We should've, if not address, at least mention the De La Hoya fight.
Also, we should've mentioned that leading up to the fight vs Hopkins, B-Hop pulled off a stunt that I believe took Trinidad off his game and fought with anger rather than a tactician: in the press conference in Puerto Rico B-Hop throws down La Bonita Bandera. How did Hopkins escape is a mystery but anger took over. I believe that affected his mental state.

The usual advantages that Tito had over his opponents like reach , size and power at welter weren't in his favor vs big guys in 154-160 like winky and bernard and he coulndt hurt them huge hook of his. Plus tito would always get back up after getting dropped at welterweight and comeback and win the fight by KO but at the upper weights those shots do more damage and it gets harder to get back up and knock guys out. That's all it was
