Nel, that song that they put when the fight of Gomez vs Salvador Sanchez starts, fire ahh background music. What’s the song called or background music as I should say?🔥🔥🔥🔥
I am Puerto Rican and my dad always talks to me about Salvador Sanchez, he says Sanchez was the best Mexican boxer he ever saw, and that's saying a lot, he actually says his boxing skills were on another level! RIP Champ!
I’ll always feel a tinge of sadness watching Sanchez, knowing he passed so young. Thank you for doing these two warriors justice
🤙🏼
I agree, he had so much potential. would have loved to have seen a rematch vs both Gomez n nelson.
One of the greatest losses in the sport, is that of one Salvador Sanchez.. many say Salvador Sanchez was potentially even greater than The Goat Julio Cesar Chavez... But we truly do got robbed
One of the rumors going on at that time, was that Don King had Salvador Sanchez brake lines cut, after all he presented the car to him, just saying.
Sanchez/CHamp is so happy if he knows that still people talking about HIM bless yall lifes ent enjoy boxing now ent history boxing greetings from Holland
Much respect to Wilfredo Gomez...he stood his ground in the line of fire...no hugging, no running...gave it his all...Viva Mexico. Viva Puerto Rico.
Was gunna say the same, as a Puerto Rican much respect to Sanchez and Gomez went out on his shield 🛡 that’s all you can ask for. Respect 🫡

I didn’t know about Wilfredo coming to Mexico for 38 years after Sal Sánchez death. Man, that just means one thing, Wilfredo’s deep respect for Sal Sánchez. #respect Wilfredo Gómez
😢 great man to do so.
Puerto Rican should redirect to who deserve it .
yup his las fight I believe was against the African Asuma Nelson and he attended his funeral for giving him the fight that jumped started his career.
@@luisbarajas6361 Azumah Nelson also paid his respects to Sanchez. I had read he visited the grave of Sanchez and took some dirt from the grave in a bag and took it with him.
Wilfredo at the end of his career he was a dirty fighter (using his elbows against Pintor, punching Zarate while he was down) but he deserve my respect when he went to Mexico to visit Salvador resting place.
I’m from Tanzania 🇹🇿 Eastern Africa, I’ve always love and follow closely the sport of boxing, watching even old boxing matches of the 70s and 80s, what I can say I love watching and I admirers fighters from these two countries, Mexico and Puerto Rico always produce boxing Warriors who’ve tremendous hearts, they don’t know quit easily 😆.

Although I'm Puertorican, I have to say Sanchez was just relentless. What an amazing talent.

@@Acord718 Wilfredo Gomez trained for that fight at my town Ponce Puerto Rico at Sercetaria Deportiva at times, a sport complex were I studied Tae Kwon do, judo and Olympic wrestling, you remember in Rocky 3 when Rocky was getting ready to fight Clover Lang ( Mr T) ?? Well the sceen were Rocky is training with the music, the fans around, and the bubbles, it was a party atmosphere, plus rumors of him having an affair with a popular actress so they say I dint see that but my friends and I thought he wasn't taking his training seriously, after the fight with Sanchez he was never the same.

Sanchez had the greatest conditioning of all time and that’s BY FAR. The man looked like he sparred 15 rounds while the opponent looked like he went thru hell for 15 rnds. My dad always told me how Sanchez stopped the great azumah nelson in like the 14/15th round in what my old man till this day says is arguably the greatest championship fight in history. You should do an episode of these for that fight.
Yes please do Sanchez vs Nelson!
Being born and training 1.5 miles above sea level helped create Sanchez's great cardio condition. 💪
@@goldsbym it's why Kenyans and Ethiopians make running look so easy

So far nothing topped thrilla in manilla for me. I'll have to see this, Ali vs fraizer 3 is the best to me right now.
dude never open his mouth to gasp air. even in a 15 round fight. what a beast...
ong bro, nth we have ever seen
Salvador Sánchez was known for running very long marathons, that's why he had iron lungs
@@anthonyscalamare298 damn i actually didn’t know that, but yea bro this is something unnatural, the fact he can fight 15 rounds and not be tired while throwing punches the whole entire fight is insane. After the fight it looks like he can fight another 15 rounds
@@user-oh1sm9xe1m As was mentioned several times he grew up 1.5 miles above sea levels. Thats in the mountains. Air gets really thick up there and it gets harder to breathe. He used to run in his town there all his life. So yeah the result is very strong and efficient lungs which can suck in and hold thinner air easyer but also use the oxygen more efficiently than people who didnt grew up that high. Combine that with very intense cardio and muscle endurance training and you get this. Not to mention he probably had some really good genetics too. He was just a speciment growing up in hard environments which gave him an edge physically in boxing while being very ambitious and talented. I am not even a fan thats just what I deduced from watching this video.

*As a Mexican who grew up around Puerto Ricans, i can honestly say this boxing rivalry was strongest during the 80s and 90s. Fights in the ring would lead to fights in the streets. It is worth noting though...that this rivalry is slowly becoming a thing of the past. You're wrong. Cuba does. They are stuck there and most of them show their skills past their prime in the USA
Couldn't have said it better myself
Boxing started in the USA we have the best boxers.
Sanchez was the greatest Mexican I ever saw on tape just in terms of attributes. He truly had it all. RIP and long live the rivalry
🇲🇽🇵🇷
Salvador is one of my favorite fighters. He was always perfectly balanced and light on his toes.
Had he not passed because of that car accident I truly believe we'd be mentioning Sal Sanchez as one of the best fighters to ever step in the ring.
👍🏻🙂👍🏻
He already is
In my book he's an all time great.
He was one of the greatest talents of all time. He accomplished a lot by the age of 23 and was experienced and skilled way beyond his years
Facts
Sal had stamina and could go 20 rounds if needed but the one thing people don’t realize is stamina means nothing without that chin. Sal had a great chin, I have seen him take shots from Nelson, Laporte, and Gomez that would have stunned other fighters. That chin allowed him to stay in the pocket longer than fighters are comfortable doing. That is how he dropped Gomez in the 1st round.
Yes, indeed-great observation. Nothing worse than a glass jaw, which can be broken if the fighter opens his mouth just a little. Sal Sánchez would never do that-he’d keep a locked jaw all through his fights; until winning and happily saluting the crowd.
Beautifully said, brother. I have been saying that since I first saw Salvador fight in 1981. He always seemed to be smiling while he was fighting. It was magical watching him confidently go round after round at the same pace while his opponents could barely keep up with him. He is my favorite fighter of all time. I literally cried tears when I heard the news of his car crash while on my way to high school. Remember, he had only been knocked down ONCE despite fighting the absolute best fighters in his career. Just a ridiculously awesome fighter.
Gomez was too cocky when he fought Sanchez. He went up in weight class and looked like crap. He should’ve taken it seriously and fought a couple fights in that weight before trying Sanchez. Would’ve been a better fight. I’m surprised he made it that far to be honest lol. Sanchez passing away was the saddest thing ever. All the potential he had and great fights we would’ve seen. Super tragic RIP
Excellent. I remember Howard Cosell announcing the result of the Sanchez vs Gomez fight during a football game. I was in total shock!!! Gomez seemed unbeatable at the time. Sanchez was like an alien...inhuman. The greatest 8 round fight EVER!!! R.I.P. Chava
Tears in my eyes as a Puerto Rican who grew up on boxing. Great production and one of the greatest fights of all time. Thanks
Sanchez vs Gomez was one of the most underrated Superfights of all time
What a rivalry!!! Class and respect from both fighters!! The fact that the Puerto Rican fighter visited his opponents family for so many years after he died just shows what a class act he was. Much respect to Mexico and PR, indeed the GREATEST rivalry in boxing.

What would they have said about the phantom punch?

In my opinion Salvador Sanchez was the greatest Mexican fighter of all time.
My body was shaking the whole time after announcing Sanchez name, but what out to tear is that fact the Gomez attended the event for 38 years, and that fact that the people from Mexico got humbled by his passing is just a reminder that we all gonna be out some day or other and we need to get right with our creator no matter what stay safe and is a wonderful narrator the voice is on point too., God bless and keep up the good work you got a new subscriber
You sir never disappoint. Great content. Sanchez is the best Mexican boxer in my opinion
I agree, it's a tragedy that he's not as well known as others
Not just mexican he's easily top 5 best boxers of all time
I agree. When people say Chavez was the greatest I always say “Chavez might be the greatest, but Sanchez was the best, it I’ll be a long way until we find a Mexican fighter with that much skill and so hard to beat”
He makes Canelo look slow
Salvador Sanchez is the greatest Mexican fighter of all time. He was the one who put "Mexican Style" on the map. It's to bad he passed away 😔 so young.
Sanchez was a monster, but Mexican Style? I think he was very elusive, used shoulder rolls, pivots and counter punching along with his pressure. He was very aggressive, and had great heart in his fights. But his style was not what is considered Mexican style.
@@ktillman2002 Watch his fight with Wifredo Gomez, Azuma Nelson and even with Laporte. From the first seconds he was throwing blows. I see what you're saying.. But if you look at Sanchez's record. He had that style from the first fight even though sometimes he started slow.
@@ktillman2002 you must not know of many of the greatest Mexican boxers then, The greatest were all very smart and skilled fighters, Ricardo Lopez, Sanchez, Miguel Canto, Marquez, Saldivar etc
@@ktillman2002 Sanchez is Mexican style, his own version, it’s 100% Mexican, the goat Mexican trainer, Nacho Beristain trained many champions to have great defense and technique, there’s really multiple Mexican styles, every boxer fights different

I do actually know those fighter's. But when the majority people use the term "Mexican style" they're referring to that take 2 punches to give one or stand and trade. But in truth even though Sanchez got into some wars he was slick, from shoulder rolls to pivots to counters. That's all I was saying. He was much more than a blood and guts brawler which is what that term is used for.
Sanchez would be to much for today's featherweights, truly a shame to not see him go on the bigger and better things, RIP Salvador 🙏🏾🙏🏾

I always wondered how Sanchez could go so hard in a fight and so long without ever opening his mouth to suck some air in a rugged fight. Growing up so high of an altitude and doing much of his road work there is the answer. His respiratory system was established up high in beautiful Santiago Tianguistenco, Mexico and was second to none...

Along with Sanchez’s great legendary talent, he had the ultimate boxing “poker face”…his facial expression… no matter what round or situation he was in, never changed while fighting. Don King gifted him the Porsche for this monumental win. The one he would ultimately end his life in

If I may Salvador Sanchez was incorruptible he was a boxer of the people..the story was that Salvador Sanchez was unfortunately killed by the mobsters because he was supposed to take a dive if a fight between him and arguello ever happened in other words Sanchez did not wanted to be told by the mafia to take a dive . And his Porsche failed him. He was killed by someone because he refused to cooperate.
Don't you think he gave him a malfunction porche with the intention of ending he's life ? Don King is evil thief humppa lumppa scumbag

I am from Colombia and from these videos I have watched on UA-cam , I have learned something I did not know before, and that is , that Mexico is not just passing through a great moment in boxing now , but that Mexico has had world class boxers and the best boxers in several categories, for the past 30 or 40 years , something I did not know, like Julio Cesar Chávez for example .
Mexico is where the best fighters on the planet are born
Thank you for doing such an exceptional video. You really did justice to both fighters. That's why your videos are the top of the line. For Wilfredo to go to Mexico 38 times to support the Sanchez family is what you call a humbley Jester.
Salvador Sanchez was a different breed 😳 that man could go 5th gear 15 rounds straight without excessive holding & look like he just went on a light jog.
I remember this fight so well. Everyone was saying this was going to be one of the greatest fights ever. Gomez was slightly favored. I remember the look of shock in school after the fight. It was a complete mismatch. Sanchez totally outclassed Gomez and destroyed him. No one was expecting that at all!
I have a huge fight collection and this is one of my favorites! I was 11 when the fight happened and Gomez was surely the favorite. I am always amazed that Wilfredo made it out of the 1st round! That short right followed by a hook while he was going down was essentially the end for him. Although he landed some bombs he was never really in the fight after that. Overconfident? Possibly but Salvador was a class unto himself
You share it.

I like the part where the narrator stated Sanchez was in his corner like he was chilling in the break room, while Gomez was being cared for by his corner after getting his arse worked up by a killer beehive. I remember when Salvador Sanchez passed away. He was in his white Porsche, and if my memory serves me right he was speeding in Mexico. One of the few times my Ex wife and I cried and hugged each other. Not just one of the greatest Mexican fighters of all time, but one of the greatest period.
Wow, never seen a better conditioned fighter than Sanchez, he was a cardio machine.
Sanchez was one in a generation talent. He had it all. R.I.P Salvador Sanchez 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
He caught Wilfredo with the same counter 2 second before the one that sit him down, Salvador was always throwing counter combinations so compact that u (us) don’t even see it, high high level stuff, and besides that once he threw the counters he was pulling out of range, or being defensively responsible, let it be already slipping, or in position to block or setting another counter, One of the all time Highest maestros of boxing that we have ever seen. He is doing things that if u know a lil of the combat “experience “ are the pinnacle of the art.
Salvador Sanchez (RIP) - Must be remembered as "MR Demolition Man" - He got much of a talent to demolish whoever was in front of him - He got so much talent and future that only death could take it away - Just a brilliant boxer who last the blink of an eye - But left a legacy of golden boxing :)
RHYTHM BOXING... you are the absolute BEST at what you do, period!
Sanchez didn't even sweat, wtf his conditioning was on another level. Also much respect to Wilfredo for attending the festivals. Mexico y Puerto Rico siempre producen peliadores de pura calidad.
Seeing him as young man before he died was a thrilling experience for me, I was in awe of his conditioning it was off the charts, 3 minutes and 15 rounds if it lasted he would be bobbing and weaving and on his toes moving and circling the ring like a shark getting ready to strike and throwing a blistering amount of punches, while maintaining that stone look, he died much to soon and I just couldn't see no one even coming close to beating Salvador, you would never see him sweat or breathe hard, and his opponent's never would get a direct hit on him, the young generation don't know of him because he died so young, but man the guy had no weakness.

WatchingSalvador Sanchez is a revelation. Dude is a beast! That quick right on the knockdown of Gomez was filthy. I see some similarities between him and Thomas Hearns ( the long, lean frame, the monster right hand, and the constant jab), but Sanchez’s hand are much quicker.
Salvador Sanchez the GOAT of Mexico it’s a shame Canelo doesn’t give him credit. Even Mike Tyson was trippen
Televisa made canelo . El coliseo made Sanchez
That just shows how ignorant Canelo and Reynoso are. Sanchez was on a level Canelo can only dream of. Sanchez was the featherweight version of Sugar Ray Leonard.
It's funny cause even Mike recognize Salvador n he does gives him credit Respects for Mike Tyson
If you say to Alvarez ' that He , is a ' product ' of Televisa , have your casket ready. For lying.
Imagine what Atleast another 10 years of his career would have been 🕊
I had honestly never looked closely at Salvador Sanchez. This was an awesome video. Thank you so much.
The conditioning on Sanchez when his at the corner he never gasped for air

I remember watching Juan Laporte and Salvadore Sánchez fight - great fight. These two Countries bring out the best in boxing rivalry. Great champions on both sides. Nothing but respect for the boxing history of the two countries. May they continue to entertain the boxing world with their boxing history!!!
Sanchez was a master - Gomez was in his own right, but I think Sanchez p4p is one of the more underrated fighters in history. Great defense, chin, footwork, punch technique AND placement of punches, his counterpunching ability really has no peer, and while not being a particularly deadly puncher, he had enough to keep his opposition honest.
"When you run every morning at an altitude that would choke a Sherpa cardio comes naturally!" ain't that the truth, i really like that quote!

So awe inspiring and jaw dropping. It’s amazing what a war can do but in the aftermath. Both sides learn from each other and that’s a good thing
What a cool gesture of respect to go that many times.
Beautiful story of two legendary warriors.
