I feel like Queen doesn't get enough credit for their main characteristic being how genre-less they are. They're simply impossible to categorize...
That’s because they are so talented. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin were all chameleons when it came to there style of music. All could play blues, jazz. Rock etc etc that shows there knowledge and creativity production. Queen were geniuses in musically. You cannot label Queen in any genre because they are so eclectic. They are a phenomenal band.
Queen is a genre on their own they are amazing ❤
That's why they're my all time favorite bands....they can't be defined and they can turn any song into a masterpiece.
They are a genre: *Songs sung by Freddie Mercury*
His voice alone is a genre
As they say:
Just take a look at the menu
We give you rock a la carte
We'll breakfast at Tiffany's
We'll sing to you in Japanese
We're only here to entertain youuuuu
Love Queen's first album. "Keep Yourself Alive," "Great King Rat," "Liar," "My Fairy King," "Son and Daughter," ... this is still a tragically underrated album.
My all time favorite!
Only underrated by those who don't truly love rock. Their second album was great as well.
1973
"March of the Black Queen" (Queen ll, Black side) is considered to be "Bohemian Rhapsody's" little sister, It's beyond awesome and I promise you'll love it too!
Imho, it's BoRhap's BIG sister both in age and complexity.
@@juttapopp1869 I agree 100%. For me the first two albums were epic, still liked Sheer Heart Attack. After that I lost interest. I preferred their harder more progressive sound.
The prequel to Bohemian Rhapsody. But then they must also do Ogre Battle and The Prophet's Song.
@@mikephillips8810 👍
My favorite Queen song
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "You’re My Best Friend" !!
There's NOTHING that Queen can't do.
Queen could have done Polka and it would have been the best-ever Polka.
Umm, yes there is. Actually there are literally 1000's of songs that Queen couldn't do. As much as I love Queen they weren't the best musicians that the world has ever seen ye know.
@@williamwallace5857 As songwriters, i think they 100% were, theyve even dabbled in Metal is that's what youre saying they cant play
@@juttapopp1869 theres Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke, dont know if thats exactly what you mean but probably the closest
@@tplouffe9226 Nope, clearly you've interpreted my comment wrongly. Read it again and take it literally.
Any and all off of their first albums is incredible. Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night At The Opera, A Day At The Races, News Of The World is amazing throughout.
I got into Queen when Queen II came out, so I was listening to them at almost the very beginning. This song was on their first album, and I finally saw them on the News of the World tour, taking a five hour bus ride to see them in Toronto. They was something special about them but I lost track of them in the 1980s. Brian May was the man as far as I was concerned.
@@jamesscully529 I was in after Killer Queen came out. I was hooked and had to have everything before it. I was lucky enough to see them on News Of The World tour, and News Of The World. Tie Your Mother Down is so incredible.
@@jamesscully529 Same here! Except I lived close to the concert venue.
@@vespoint I do now. Except its now a grocery store! Saw a LOT of concerts in Maple Leaf Gardens after I moved to TO, including Queen twice more on their Jazz tour.
This was a very early song and featured in the BoRap movie.
"Spread Your Wings" by Queen is a hidden gem 💎 Hope one day ya'll can react to this song. It's very beautiful!
That definitely is! Well said
Probably in my top ten Queen songs. Brilliant track
So is "It's Late" also from NOTW (my personal fav from the album)
@@seanwilliams9443 Yes!!! "It's Late" is an awesome song and so underrated. It rocks! News of the World was my first Queen album I bought and it's still my favorite!
"This song is so quiet, there's usually a big bold statement" The rest of us: give it 20 more seconds! From the largely unknown (outside the Queen fans world) first album. I didn't get to this one until the early 1980s, 8 years after its release, but it has many gems. You guys should try out 'Son and Daughter', 'Keep Yourself Alive' and the epic 'Liar' (must do Liar watching the official Queen video where they are in a studio performing to it). This was the hard rock/glam rock/heavy period in Queen's history. It's bombastic but also subtle at the same time. It's fantastic.
John Deacon's bass solo in LIAR is AWESOME!!!!!
This song was already written and played by Brian May before Freddie joined the band and it became Queen
I think this is a whopping SIXTEEN Queen songs you've reacted to (the most of any group or artist). I can't wait for you to watch "Highlander" on your movie channel... mostly because Queen did the ENTIRE soundtrack! "Princes of the Universe", "Who Wants to Live Forever", and "A Kind of Magic" are BANGERS! Great quote (from the movie): There can be only one...
But...Gimme the Prize?
Actually it's a mark of how high quality Queen's music is that the album you mention often ranks one of the lowest on many critics' (and mine) order of Queen albums from worst to best. Still had enough good songs but Magic not even in Queen's top ten albums.
What about Flash Gordon? Apparently the real - sadly late - Queen’s favourite film!
don't loose your head 🤩
@@mikephillips8810 Maybe it s bc the Album was quiet short ? In my mind the Quality of the Songs was unbelievable good. One of their best in my Book.
You have to do "March of the Black Queen" and then let it go right into the next song "Funny How Love Is" You will be blown away!
Never heard this one before…….such beautiful harmony….such a lovely voice Freddie had! 😊
You must listen to their first albums...mind blowing 70s!!!
This is off their debut
It's on the Bohemian Rhapsody Movie
The first album isn't quite what they were trying to achieve in their sound, given it came out two years after they'd written it (and a lot of material for the next album), but they were on their way. And plenty of great songs. This and the second album was Queen doing hard/heavy rock, with a glam image. I love this period in their history. The second album they really perfected the blend of hard rock/proto heavy metal with harmonies and quiet.
'Its Late' is a Queen gem !!!!!!!! The song will totally blow you away!!!! Guaranteed 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My favourite Queen song! Written by Brian, it’s amazing!!
But not too late.
OMG! This is from their first album, they were so so young...just coming off Brian and Rogers band Smile...the entire album is a great listen...My Fairy King...vocals..amazing!
I was fortunate in my life to see Queen in concert three times in the mid- seventy’s.This track is from their first album which is my favorite. Plenty of killer songs on this album. I think you guys should put some scuba gear on and take a deep dive into this album. Definitely listen to the song “Liar” one of my all time favorites.
Liar is epic, especially with the official video of them in the studio 'live'
It is a great album! Love Great King Rat,and the Night comes down, well actually the whole album!
Their first two albums, 'Queen' and 'Queen II' are my favorites and deserve to be listened to in whole
You will love them, I promise 😉 and all so darn original
This song is actually a cover, making it the earliest written of all songs they every did.
It was written by Brian May and Tim Staffel in 1968 when they were SMILE, before Freddie and John Deacon. Staffel was a singing bass player.
One of the reasons Freddie doesn't sound like classic Freddie is, he's actually mimicking the vocals of Tim Staffe.
This song was one of only six recorded for the Smile album Getting Smile. That record was recorded in Japan and not intended to be released in the US, but I have this very rare album. It has mostly Japanese writing. In the Smile version, Tim sang lead.
In the Queen version, Freddie sang lead.
After Freddie's death, Tim recorded it again with Brian as more upbeat.
I won't link to either but they are on youtube, search for it adding Smile to listen to the original.
That was a very informative comment. Thank you. 😊
Came here to say this was a Smile song. So really not a "cover" as it was written by Brian but I do get what you mean. It's not an actual "Queen song"
Fred isn't mimicking Tim, he just sang in his higher register more during the early years. Gettin' Smile was just released in Japan not recorded in Japan.
'Doing alright' does sound like it should be a song done by a band named 'Smile' and I was pondering whether it had been, during the reaction. Not sure whether that was a buried memory of having actually known that at some point or just something about the style of it.
Freddie is not mimicking Tim, Freddie sang like this a lot in the early years. Listen to the version with Tim ,he has a far more bluesy style. Freddie was a very inexperienced singer at this point, later on he sang much higher.
This is about as raw, early and deep as you can get for Queen. Written before Freddie even joined the band, before Queen had a record deal, before Queen were famous enough to be afforded studio time to come up with their trademark elaborate productions. Still timeless, still beautiful, still Queen!
You have to listen to "The Show Must Go On" for your next Queen song. You won't regret it, it's amazing!
It would make sense going from their earliest song to one of their last, one that kind of looks beyond Freddie's death to their continued live performances as Queen+.
A friend gave me The first two albums before I ever heard them played on the radio. I was instantly hooked!
Can't believe you guys reacted to this song. Thank you! You’re the best! And more early Queen please 🙂
Doesn't get too much earlier in Queen's career than this song! Freddie was singing it more in the style of Tim who'd left Smile thereby making room for Freddie to join, become lead singer, and change the name to Queen.
First album, Track 2. Nice pick for a deep cut!
"Doing All Right" is the first song in the Freddie Mercury Era with a writing credit going to someone not in the band. Tim Staffell was bassist and singer of a band called Smile, which also comprised of Brian May and Roger Taylor. When Staffell left the band, a toothy acquaintance named Farokh "Freddie" Bulsara took over as singer. They hired on a bassist named Mike Grose, and Queen officially became a band. Mike didn't work out, and it took a few more bass players before landing on John Deacon.
Others worth a listen from this album:
Keep Yourself Alive
Great King Rat
Modern Times Rock-n-Roll
Liar
Thoroughly agree, and I would add Son and Daughter and My Fairy King to that list. Despite their debut being the weakest of their first few albums, it ain't Hot Space, it's still a fantastic listen now, and gets a bit of an unfair rap imo. Almost everything Queen did impeccably in later albums has a blueprint here.
This song is from 1973. I saw them when they came to the US for the first time. Night of the Opera was the album they supported on tour, and it was incredible. You need to listen to that entire album.
That's when I wish I had seen them. 😢
I was born in 75. Grew up with queen being a massive part of all the icons of the time. Freddie died not long after I’d started work. At that age you take people for granted and think they will be around forever. All these years later and still miss the absolute genius of this man, although I knew he was good when he was alive, I never realised just how good, him and queen, right up there with the best ever
My favorite band since mid 70s. I saw them live 5 times
Me too. 😊Sydney concert 1976 and 4 concerts in Sydney 1985. Historic!
Wow, this was a nice surprise! This is the earliest Queen you can get, on their first album. The Night Comes Down is another one you would love from the first album as well. I saw them November 3, 1978 at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Florida. Best show I've ever seen!
You Never know what Freddie and Queen will give you. I had to listen to the hear the "Red Special" and I knew. Freddie could change his voice up so much. Musical styles all over the place. Thats why I have loved then since a child. NOBODY comes close to QUEEN!
Baby Queen, from their first album in 1973! I read a review of that album when it was released that compared them to Zeppelin (remember, they were considered a hard Rock/Glam Rock band at first) & being a teenage Zep fanatic I ran out & bought this album sight unseen, sound unheard. Suddenly found myself with another favorite band!
Check out "Son & Daughter" from the same album for an example of how they could kick ass along with the other established Rock bands of the day.💙☮💙
This is their very first album, they were putting a lot of the material that they'd composed (or began to compose) prior to and immediately after Queen was formed. If I'm not mistaken, Freddie designed the cover, or directed the design of the album cover.
Queen is so versatile I love this song ❤
Just so beautiful, Queen is truly legendary...Freddie had such a supernatural effect people, just magical...Thanx so much, Peace
Wow! SO amazing! I've never heard this song before by Queen. Freddie Mercury's voice is mesmerizing.
In my view,the best
Brian May is so often overlooked as one of the elite guitar players in rock. You immediately know it's him from the first note.
Brian May song from his previous band - love this version from Queen's amazing debut album!
Wow! Deep cut! This is the first song off the first Queen album, and they had it from the start. Queen had so many hits, but I think some of their greatest songs are hidden gems on their albums. Especially during the seventies. There wasn't a bad track! They continued to do fine work until the end, and Freddie will never let you down. Other really cool songs to check out: "March Of The Black Queen", "Millionaire Waltz", "The Prophet's Song", "It's Late", "Stone Cold Crazy", and "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy".
I concur! Love your choice of songs. Some of my faves.
If they want to explore 'mellow' Queen Millionaire's Waltz, It's Late and Good Old-fashioned Lover Boy would be good choices, along with Teo Torriata and Lazing on A Sunday Afternoon.
How about You Take My Breath Away, Save Me, Love of My Life, Las Palabras De Amor...so many to choose from
That was awesome! Thank you so much for this reaction to a hidden gem by Queen!😍
For a complete slow song you should react to: My Melancholy Blues by Queen.
Freddie's voice is so pristine, even when he tries to dirty it up a little, it's so clean and clear.
Love Love Love Queen! Wish I would have appreciated them when I was younger but I was late to the party. They were part of the soundtrack of my life but I had no idea of the talent of the whole band and love all of them.
I believe this song was performed by Smile, the band that Brian and Roger were apart of before Freddie came along. Of course Freddie on lead vocals is amazing. They were very young for this one!
A beautiful Queen song with extremely poignant lyrics would be “Is this world we created”. Written by Roger Taylor in response to some of the ills of the world. Freddie’s vocals amazing, but that’s to be expected. The man wasn’t just the ultimate performer, he also had perfect pitch.
It was written by Freddie Mercury and Brian May.
@@magneto7930 Correction. It was an old Smile song - the band May and Taylor were in before Queen - and was written by May and Tim Staffell who was the lead singer of Smile.
@@jamesscully529 I'm referring to Is This the World We Created. That's the song he mentioned. Not this song. I'm very familiar with this song as I bought the album in the '70s.
except live
I stand corrected it was indeed written by May & Mercury, the rest stands however.
Thank you so much for getting back to Queen although a surprising choice. This is an album track from their debut album originally recorded by Smile ( the group Brian and Roger were in before Freddie and John joined and became Queen. It's a beautiful track. There's plenty more mainstream records of theirs you must react to like "We Are the Champions" "The Show must go On" "We Will Rock You" and many many more. Much love from England 🏴
Queen - Live Aid .. its a crime yall havent dun it already
Can’t go wrong with this band!! Awesome!!🤘🔥
Jay N Amber next Queen song should be WE WILL ROCK YOU .. From 1977,,
Queen is AWESOME!!! Love his voice!
Lindsey Stirling - Crystalize
This is an early one! It's actually a pre-Queen song (by the band Smile). I only discovered this song a few years ago. And since the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, it became more popular. Although I really like Freddie's voice, I also like this song with Tim Staffell on lead vocals. If you want to hear more early Queen songs, I recommend "Seven Seas of Rhye". It became Queen''s first UK hit. The lyrics are based on the imaginary world that Freddie Mercury and his sister created while playing.
Listen to death on two legs. A complaint to former management. Killer song. Also from that album. The prophets song. Album is called a night at the opera.
Been digging Queen since the early 70's.
This was from their very first album. Many of the hallmarks that would come to define "Queen" were already present - the harmonies, the mixing of genres, Freddie's exquisite lead vocals, obviously, and the accomplished instrumental work - but they were still sort of finding themselves and refining their recording/overdubbing techniques.
You guys just hit a grand slam with this one. Now do long away with Brian on vocals. Such a beautiful song.
I love Long Away. A Day at the Races is my favorite Queen album. Not a bad song on it.
Queen is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you’re gonna get.
J & Amber.... I laughed out loud... 'It's a simple, mellow song", then BAM! Love you guys. Great reaction.💖
I was 15 years old and saw Queen live in Cleveland Ohio back in 1975. Been a fan since buying there first lp in 1973. I remember placing the needle down on that lp and hearing keep yourself alive. Queen changed my life for the better. Thank you Queen
One song from the Bee Gees you guys have to react is You Win Again. It flopped in the US, but it was huge everywhere else. Great song, great drums, great vocals. Amazing.
My first time hearing this song and I enjoyed it very much! I agree with you two, you never know what you're gonna get with Queen which is why we love them so much! Enjoyed your reaction! ☮💕👍👏
Days of our lives.... it's one of the last songs released. The power in Freddie's voice . AMAZING and such beautiful lyrics. 🥰
Written by Brian May & Tim Staffell (from the band SMILE) then re-recorded when Queen was formed in 1970. Tim left smile to pursue other music interests .. that’s when Freddie stepped in to become lead singer then changed the name to Queen! You should check out a song called The Night Comes Down by Queen!
From Queens 1st Album here in North America. Not a bad track on it really although my Dad hated this album which I played a lot. Keep Yourself Alive and Liar are 2 other great tracks from it. Cheers.
First Album. It is a fabulous piece of art. Very heavy as well. Surprisingly hard rock...
I think I might be falling in love with Amber. Her descriptions of everything are amazing. She said the song was so mellow but then, it's Queen and they just can't help themselves!"😊
Haha, that was great! The first time you stopped it and commented on the soft and easy, I said to myself, just wait. Surprise, surprise. Queen are timeless. A full-on album band. The deep cuts are often just as good as the hits, sometimes, even better. March of the Black Queen would blow your mind!
Freddy was always throwing in his classical training but the genuis of queen is that not only did they know to let Freddy’s genuis shine through but they also knew to let Brian May and his guitar loose as well. Add in John Deacon's Bass Guitar and Roger Taylor Drums and you had a once in a lifetime band.
This was written by Brian & his former band mate Tim Staffel of Smile.
I don’t think there is piano line in the Smile cut?
Lol….”this song is so easy”
Waits for it kick in. Lol

Fantastic Playlist!! 🤩
Wow, haven't heard Kathy Mattea's name in a long time. "Untasted Honey"
Who Wants To Live Forever is seriously underrated. One of my favorite Queen songs.
“It’s late” is a must!
My favorite
You can hear the young in Freddie's voice. Early stuff. And remember the guitarist is the great Brian May.
There are some great songs on Queen's first album including Doing Alright, I've always loved Liar, Keep Yourself Alive, and Seven Seas of Rhye
"Doing All Right” was written by Brian May and Tim Staffell while they were in a rock group called "Smile" along with Roger Taylor (1967 -1969). "Smile" broke up when Tim left to join another group. Brian and Roger were devastated when Tim left and wanted to give up music but their good friend, Farrokh (Freddie) Bulsara talked them out of it. So, in 1970, Brian, Roger, and Freddie formed a new group which they called, "Queen". A year later, John Deacon joined the group.
Queen played this song as early as 1970 and it was the first song that Freddie (who had now changed his name legally to Freddie Mercury) played live on the piano for Queen. When it existed as a Smile track, Tim Staffell took on vocals, and Freddie’s take on Queen’s version bore a noticeable resemblance to them.
For the Queen biopic, "Bohemian Rhapsody", Tim Staffell rejoined with Brian and Roger to re-record “Doing All Right” so it could be part of the movie - ua-cam.com/video/qcA5kfZLlK4/v-deo.html
"Liar" is the Rock Opera on this first album. But "Son and Daughter," over the years, continues to Impress me, and carries a relevant message even today.
QUEEN does no wrong.
This was actually first performed by the prequel band to Queen called Smile.with Tim Staefal on lead vocal, quite a few smile tracks ended up on Queens first album.
Jay/Amber you got to listen to Death on Two Legs. It’s Freddie’s grievance towards a former manager. It’s a great song off the Night at the Opera love queen they are in my Top 3 bands. Keep doing what you are doing love it….
A Dozen 7th graders riding thier bicycle's after school so they can hear the new Queen Album 😋.....
Music is Magic ✨ what a Time......✌️♥️
OMG... I was listening to this album ono my stereo ..this was a song from there debut album if I'm not mistaken..one of the greatest bands if all time....sure wished it could have had the opportunity to see them live...😊🎶 "Keep yourself alive" song you should play...
This is from their first album in 1973, so yes, very early Queen! Song was actually written by May while in the band Smile. Queen does indeed defy genre - through their whole catalogue, they were exceptional with so many styles! From hard rock (very prominent in their early records), to soft, sensual ballads, to thrash (Stone Cold Crazy), to funk/disco, to progressive (see The Prophet's Song), they could do it all!!
I highly suggest more songs from their first few albums (not as well known as their 'hits')
From Queen (1st album): Son and Daughter, Jesus, The Night Comes Down,
From Queen II: White Queen (As It Began), Father To Son, The March Of The Black Queen, Ogre Battle
From Sheer Heart Attack: Lily Of The Valley, Stone Cold Crazy, In The Lap Of The Gods, Flick Of The Wrist, Brighton Rock
You will never be disappointed with these crazy talented Brits! RIP Freddie.
Queen 1 and 2 are iconic. Y’all gotta do keep yourself alive, liar, seven seas of rye, march of the black Queen!
They are simply masterful all the time
The entire band has always been so incredible on all fronts. Aside from their music, they collectively have more PHD's in science than any band ever. Brian May himself has 4, is a world renowned astrophysicist who helped design and coordinate the Mars landing mission!
Two beautiful songs I have heard from Queen today that ihave not heard before. The other was " Love Kill "
How funny, I just released the same song on my Queen channel. I love it sooo much because it throws you around like a rag doll. Thank you ☮☮Love Peace and Joy for both of you.
Early Queen is incredibly good. Songs You HAVE to listen to (in that order): Marche of the black Queen, The prophet‘s song, Stone Cold Crazy, Liar, Father to Son, White Queen, Ogre Battle, Here I Am, Death on Two Legs, Great King Rat…
"Doing Alright" is a very summer song for me.
Wow, a proper deep cut from Queen's early catalogue! Kudos to you. It's great to see people like you discovering this music. It feels like discovering it myself all over again.
I'm jealous of you. Discover all the songs of queen now.
I did that about 45 years ago and it was a journey I will never forget.
Queen fan forever
This was actually song written before Freddie joined the band and they were still named Smile. You should listen to Queen II, imo their best and most progressive work: Ogre Battle, Father to Son, March of the Black Queen, The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke (Freddies discription of a real painting)
Freddie and Roger can hit some seriously high notes
Yall have hardly scratched the surface of Queen! Try "Save me" 1981, "White Queen" live at Hammersmith Farm, " Who Wants To Live Forever" (official video), "Time waits for nobody" (Freddie), "How can I go on?" ( Freddie and Montserrat Caballe) Mon-sir-rot Ka-ball-yay.
This is baby Queen. A song that was not written to be a Queen song. It was written for Roger and Brian's band prior to Queen called "Smile" 1973 Re-recorded once Freddie entered the picture.
So good to see someone taking a stab at Queens first album. One of their best. Other great songs from their first album are: Keep Yourself Alive and My Fairy King.
Don't know if you've done, "Don't Stop Me Now" yet. Great tune.
Queen is one of my favorite groups of all time for good reason. I have listened to every song ever released by them at least once, and I did not find even one that I don't like at all. This isn't one I remembered off the top of my head, but I still enjoyed it, and I'm ALWAYS up for seeing more Queen reactions from you! I'm glad to see you step away from their biggest hits actually; Queen has a lot of great songs that never became really huge, so you would really be missing out if you just stuck to the ones that "everybody" knows. My recommendation this time is another one of those; "39" from the album A Night at the Opera. Definitely my favorite of their non-hits, and one of my favorites by them overall. I think you'll both like it!
Loving your channel my friend. I’m 58 and it’s awesome to see another generation loving the music I grew up on. Take care of that young lady with you, she really brightens the videos. Blessings
If you like mellow Queen, check out My Melancholy Blues, off their News of the World album. There are several other great (but different) songs on that album too, like: It's Late; All Dead, All Dead; Spread your Wings..
My understanding is that "Doin' Alright" was from the Smile days, AKA, pre Freddie, John and the name change to Queen.
Freddie, Queen, The show must go on!!! I will say no more ! ❤
1st album 1974, 2nd song on the album.
Album also features Keep Yourself Alive, Jesus, Great King Rat, Modern Times Rock And Roll, Son and Daughter, and Liar. You will enjoy them all.
should try listening to "Liar" and "White Queen', I believe they are from their first album
Roger Taylor (drums) and Brian May (guitar) also sang leads on some songs. Try Roger singing I’m In Love With My Car and Brian singing ‘39.
this is off there very first album , it is an incredible album .queen is my band , I have every album live , studio , seen them live in Toronto , Ontario. I almost died when Freddie died.
I'm SO glad that you touched on Queen's first album. One of my favorites...Thanks!
How is it that I’ve never heard this song? WOW!
More research is required on my part to find more of these amazing jewels!
Thanks for the reaction, it made me smile!
Love you guys! ❤
Freddie loved the band called Smile he loved there energy and there dareing to take a chance when there lead vocalist left the band Freddie joined and Queen was born the rest we are privileged to enjoy love ya all RSR family from the UK peace and be blessed Jay and Amber Xx
My daughter's favorite band. The original band before Queen was called Smile. I bought her a T shirt that said Smile.
