George wrote such uplifting music!! How can you not feel something spiritual listening to this (no matter what your beliefs might be). He didn't care who/what you followed, just that you aspired to be a good person and loved your fellow humans, and the world as a whole. RIP George.
Amen!
George was a kind soul..
Jeez, this song is about wanting to be dead, bro
@@thoru4367No its about wanting to connect to Christ/God
I took it as wanting to be with god but the only way to really be with him is to die. This song has always made me sad but I love it.
George evolved as a songwriter and by the end of the Beatles he was on par with John and Paul. Here comes the sun. That was his too.
He also wrote Something, which is a favorite of mine.
I Me Mine, Taxman, While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
@@rayj1011 love this. i didn't realize George wrote it.
George was always a song writer just that Paul and John thought themselves the leaders, so
He didn't write nearly as much as Paul and John, but he had a few good ones.
George created a hypnotic song that repeated over and over like a Buddhist chant and what do you know, it appealed to the masses and became a monster hit. George was amazing. He was always my favorite Beatle.
It's not budhist it's Hinduism chant
Can you imagine how difficult it would be fighting for song space on an album when your band mates are John Lennon and Paul McCartney?!
While my guitar gently weeps is a George song. He wrote so many good Beatles tracks, and his is the best solo career in my opinion.
Well, yes and no. We will never know what John might have done. We had a taster on 9 October 1980, his 40th birthday. I bought it and was on cloud 9. He was back; I was ecstatic. Exactly 2 months later (4 days after my birthday) he was murdered. So up to a point yes, but we will never truly know. Breaks my heart. Oh and never, ever mention the murdering bastard's name. That's what he wanted, to have his name linked to John's forever. He's the assassin, the murdering bastard or the killer. Ok, so have a great weekend, wherever you are. x love, peace and music from East Coast of England.
Absolutely!
Love George Harrison but John Lennon Double Fantasy is pretty untouchable in the post-Beatles catalogs. Paul McCartney and Wings had quite a nice career. Linda was a big boost to Paul. But John Lennon's Imagine is the most important song post-Beatles.
@@Greg-io1ip all things must pass is my favorite post Beatles record. I also love George Harrison self titled, living in the material world, brainwashed, etc..
Then you get into the Wilburys records.
Not knocking John. Imagine is definitely a classic song. Working class hero, instant karma, and also etc... Still for me team George
George wrote all these songs he had them for years. All the singing you hear on my sweet lord is all George. All things must pass is a masterpiece.
George was the youngest of the Beatles. He was only 26 when they broke up. Incredible.
Okay you got me. I’m subscribing. I think what you’re referring to was a string instrument from India called a sitar which George learned to play and also that was a Hindu chant. “Harrison’s lyrical attempt to bridge a divide between Christianity and Hinduism was one meaning of the song.” George just wanted everyone to get along and live in peace☮️
Welcome aboard, these two do some great reactions!
@@kathybwell Yup I’ve been watching their reactions, giving them thumbs up and using the comment section for awhile. But I’ve been holding back to subscribe… until now
There's no sitar in this song, it's George playing slide guitar. He does use sitar in some of his songs, though 🙂
@@Alewifes_Husband 👍
Brian Jones (Stones) played sitar
The concert for George- Billy Preston signs this so beautifully.
^sings
This was on the radio a lot in my high school years. Then it was just a pop song that I liked. Now I hear it more as a cry to God, Krishna, or otherwise. I hear it as a religious release. Thanks for doing this.
Exactly.
I would argue for Harrison's ""All Things Must Pass" album as the best post-Beatle album by any of the group.
very difficult to disagree on that
To me, Ringo’s best solo song was Photograph, which was written by George.
George's All Things Must Pass is arguably the best of the all the Beatles solo albums. Ringo plays great drums on this song. George's slide guitar playing is instantly recognizable. Such a signature sound. He came up with this song after jamming with Billy Preston during a 1969 tour with Delaney and Bonnie when they were talking about great gospel music. George and Billy were very spiritual. Clapton played with them on that tour also.
All Things Must Pass is a masterpiece album by George Harrison
All the Beatles had stand out solo careers; George was shing star in the rock world. There are many good choices for him - you can't go wrong. Love this song, great choice as always.
This was, by far, the best triple album ever released. George had so much great music saved up from not being able to get it all out with the Beatles that only a few months after the break up, he had three albums of great material, and put it all out at once.
"Isn't it a pity" always makes me emotional.
George Harrison also formed a group ,The Traveling Wilburys in 1988, 5 of the biggest singer/ songwriters George Harrison, Jeff Lynne of ELO, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, & Bob Dylan , they recorded 2 albums. "Handle with care" RIP George Harrison, Roy & Tom Petty. LEGENDS , GREATNESS🤟
The background vocals at the end are part of a Vedic chant. He got really into spirituality after his visit to India and began incorporating transcendental meditation and Vedic chants and mantras into his everyday life and music. Eventually going on to co-produce the album "Chants of India" with Ravi Shankar.
George had volumes of songs that he had written when he was in the Beatles. George was an amazing player and loved playing slide guitar. He was heavily involved in Indian culture and music. Hari Krishna!
Yes, Hari, Hari Krishna! I think I hear backup vocals referencing Shiva too.
Yes, absolutely. George wrote these songs. He grew as a songwriter but more importantly, as a person. Beautiful stuff. He was an amazingly talented guy. And people who knew him (family, friends, colleagues, etc,) loved him as a kind, generous and spiritual person. The real deal!
George surrounded by his good friends recording this… Ringo, Clapton, Klaus, Booker etc.
it was good to be George 😊
Plus Bobby Whitlock on keyboard and backing vocal.
And Peter Frampton I believe.
"Is that a slide"? We see you listening and getting it. You two gentleman have quickly become my favorite music reactors. Beautiful watching you guys discover the music of my youth. Magical times.
George Harrison's songs reflect so much compassion for humanity. I just love this man and artist. Also check out "Bangladesh", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Isn't it a Pity". Thanks so much guys for posting this song!🍂
And check out All Things Must PASS.
the uniqueness of this song is that he took Hindu/Krishna spiritual chant and set it to a standard Gospel chord progression. Even though the concepts were foreign to a western audience, the song became number 1. Pretty amazing. Yes, George wrote almost all his own material. And he had 1 or 2 songs on almost every Beatles album - and many absolutely great ones. All Things Must Pass is an incredibly deep album. You should check out as much of this album as you can.
As a Christian, I love this song. Spirituality has no definitions, it transcends
George held his own when it came to writing music with the Beatles. Ringo also. Don't think for a moment that they didn't
It’s written like a trance .. same verses over an over .. it’s soothing
Literally praising God in this song and chanting for universal love. Incredible song.
you have to do "All Those Years Ago" written for John after he passed away. Absolutely the best requiem for his friend.
George was such a sweet soul and great musician, gone too soon.
Very happy to realize how many young guys can appreciate and enjoy George's spiritual and deep musical messages.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney didn't want to record Harrison's music except when they needed more songs to finish the album. That's how the love song - Something (In The Way She Moves) was recorded written by Harrison, released by The Beatles and became a massive hit, still considered today as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Harrison by many people is considered their favorite musician from the Beatles.
Actually, the Beatles song is just called "Something". George was inspired by the earlier James Taylor song titled "Something (In The Way She Moves)", who was on Apple Records at the time.
There wasn't enough room on an album for John and Paul, never mind George towards the end of the Beatles. George was great, but way behind John and Paul for sheer volume of great songs. He matched them twice on Abbey Road and that's about it. Same in their solo careers, take all the greatest 15 songs from each after the break up, you'll see what I mean.
That comment is really unfair. The producer and the record companies also had a say on what tracks made it onto the albums or came out as singles.
@Kieop NOT so much with the Beatles. They were so successful they ran the show by 1965-66.They got what they wanted when they wanted it.Pretty powerful position to be in.
George became a devout believer in Hare Krishna. He wrote and recorded this and many other songs proclaiming his faith and his belief in seeking a better life here on Earth. Check out Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth). It compliments this song quite nicely. :u)
George wrote some of the most beautiful songs
And George's best buddy in the Beatles Ringo is manning the drums on this one!
cheers all
Listen to “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Here Comes The Sun” ! Y’all will love it!
One of favorites from George ❤
Yes he wrote his own music and words even though he admitted words were hard to come by at first. This song appeals to many because it doesn't matter what religion you believe in you want to know your Lord. But his song "Something" is probably his best
George has always been my favorite Beatle.....
One of the , if not he greatest post-Beatles albums, which also include McCartney's "Bend on the Run" and Lennon's "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band".
All Those Years Ago still gets me
He’s got two of my top five 🍻Then he just kept doing it 😎
The Beatles were influenced and partook in Indian spirituality. George was singing Hare (ha-ray) which means praise, and he gave praise to Hindu gods, gurus and beliefs. Hare Krishna, Hare Rama, Vishnu etc.
i was just a little girl, riding in the back seat of the family station wagon mon at the wheel, when I first heard this song...I remember it so well, where we were, etc...i thought it was so beautiful.
"Here Comes the Sun" is one of his Beatles tunes that is a must listen.
Yep, George wrote ALL of this. Pete Hamm from Bad Finger playing along with George on the acoustic..Check out "Baby Blue" from Bad Finger! AND, George got sued over this song, oops!
Had to pay 10 Mill I think..? Supposedly sounded too close to "He's so Fine" which I still don't get..?? Love that song too though, The Shirelles I think.
Love this song...if they sang this in church maybe I'd go!
Love it too...I don't go either 😁, unless I have a need for fellowship (which I don't), otherwise, the kingdom of heaven is within. go within! 😉
@@mojorider8455 😉
They have absolutely sung this in my church!
They do. But as usual, they pick and choose what to sing. It’s a shame because it’s such a beautiful song and was written as an inclusive way to praise
I’d be suspect of any Christian church playing this
Harrison was a tremendous songwriter who usually only got a couple of his songs on each Beatles album. So when the Beatles broke up, he had a lot of unused material and put out a triple album! All Things Must Pass showed the world that he was on the same level as John and Paul.
Always loved George the best of all the Beatles ❤️ R.I.P. 😭
George Harrison lived his beliefs. He was the first musician to organize a benefit concert for for charity. It was the Concert for Bangladesh which brought the devastation of Bangladesh to worldwide attention. I believe UNICEF today still receives money from the sales of the albums.
I first heard this @ 4 yrs old, the guitar strum that got me ! Problem with British radio music like this become mainstay as I was growing up I’m 5+ it still sounds like the first time hearing it and where I was.
Love George
The dude is the epitome of cool 😎 👌
Or even...epitome?
He wrote it. George was a great songwriter.
george was friends with Ravi Shankar and amazing indian artist that even played at woodstock, that you have to see , you wont forget that perfomance
You may be thinking of "Oh Happy Day" by the Edwin Hawkins Singers -- which inspired this song.
True story: for a while I used to have severe back pains, and one day I happened to start listening to all things must pass (the album) and when that song came on, my back pain went away while I was completely entranced by the song
Airplay Beats you are missing out on that Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter Tobacco Road Live Video it's every thing you both like Jazz Funk Rock Scatting yes Scatting you will both Love these Brother and Johnny Winter is one of the greatest Blues Guitar players ever thanks
For a real beautiful rendition of this song take a listen at the concert tribute to George Harrison. Billy Preston plays keys and does the lead vocals on this while the other great musicians on stage pick up the background vocals. Talk about taking you to church. As you may know, Billy Preston played keyboards on a lot of their songs.
My Sweet George ♥️♥️🎸🎸🎸
You are RIGHT!!! All the members of The Beautiful were influenced by Black music and George on this song did a Folk version of Gospel music with this song with a twist of his own religious believe which was Hinduism which the Lord of Life is Vishnu.
George went to India along with the other Beatles and studied TM with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He also learned to play the sitar with Ravi Shankar in India and later in London he met Swami Prabhupada the founder of the global Hare Krishna Movement. Thus, he was exposed to eastern religions including Hindi in his search for a spiritual life. What you heard was the Hindi language and a mantra evoking different names or avatars of some of the Hindi gods. Some of these names in the Sanskrit language, are Hare, Krishna and Rama. The lyrics mention the following: ”Guru Brahma” - the Lord of Creation, “Guru Vishnu” - the Lord who is called organizer, “Guru Devo Maheshwarah” refers to Lord the destroyer; “Tasmai Shree Guruve Namah” means we bow to the Guru; “Guru Sakshat Parabrahma” is the supreme god or almighty. These meaning and translations are what I’ve read but I’m not an expert so translations could have other meanings. George's song reflects his deep spiritual journey and his openness to enlightenment from other philosophies.
Check out the zSupe Group The zTravelinh Wilburus ….Harrison, Dylan, Orbison, Petty etc.
stuck inside a cloud from his last album also STRAIGHT fire.
George Harrison was third fiddle in the Beatles. But what a third fiddle!!! No wonder why the Beatles were so awesome.
You can also throw Billy Preston into George's crew here as well. Billy is like a hidden influence on George in this song. In fact, there is a performance by Billy Preston where he does his version of this song-I think as a tribute to him after George's passing in 2001.
George also wrote one the Beatles best ballad "something" which he wrote for then wife Patty Boyd, who eventually became Eric Clapton's wife and muse.
George was the best Beatle, rest his soul.....
Yes George wrote this. He wrote most of the All Things Must Pass album.
George was a follower of Paramhansa Yogananda. This song is a version of a meditation chat where the chatter is “telling” God to reveal him/herself.
George Harrison was a devote of Eastern Spirituality and honored Jesus, Krishna and others. In this song, they sing the Guru Mantra, which pays homage to all of one's spiritual teachers.
"What is Life", "Give Me Love, Give Me Peace on Earth" are two more great hits by this wonderful songwriter/singer.
George wrote this song. The Concert For George version of the song, sung by Billy Preston is great.
.my fav album think you might of heard thr cherrells hes so fine
George was a Hare Krshna buddhist. George's first solo was 3 albums in a box. It's awesome and he wrote all of it.
Hare Krishna hare rama
Meaning glory to lord Krishna and glory Lord rama
BEATLES TRIVIA: George's original intent was to make a song that had the gospel flavor of "Oh Happy Day" by "The Edwin Hawkins Singers". Unfortunately he made a very costly mistake by using the melody line from "He's So Fine".....and got sued. This cost him from all accounts 1 million dollars.......quite a bit of money in 1971.
He had so many great songs stashed from his Beatle years, the producer Phil Spector was amazed when he showed him the songs. They decided to do the All Things Must Pass album to use some of them. George brought in Ringo, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton and other musician friends to make the album. George was the spiritual one in the band, Paul was the love song pop writer, John the deep thinking politician, and Ringo the happy go lucky one.
Interesting fact, following the Beatles break up, George Harrison was the first Beatle to produce a solo album All Things Must Pass
Produced by the BEATLES producer. George was allowed a song or two per album by the BEATLES - love his WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS on the BEATLES WHITE ALBUM.
George wrote his music and had a brilliant career as a solo artist.
He’s an underrated songwriter and
About my sweet lord there’s a lot of things about this song specifically you need guys to do some researchers there’s a lot of fun facts
Fun facets. You got Lennon on background vocals. And Ringo on drums. It’s such a beautiful song 🙏
Rubbish! John NEVER appeared on any George solo release, the backing vocals are done by George and Bobby Whitlock, while the drummer is Andy White (Ringo plays tambourine on the track).
Not true AT ALL. John appears NOWHERE on this album or any other George album. Unfortunately, there are at least 17 people who upvoted you who now believe this.
Actually your wrong, if you can’t hear him singing back ground vocals. Then Google it, with that being said. It’s such a beautiful song.
@@thomascerulli8013 Line-up according to The Beatles Bible, the foremost website on them as a group and solo:
George Harrison: vocals, backing vocals, electric slide guitar, acoustic guitar
Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Pete Ham, Tom Evans, Joey Molland: acoustic rhythm guitar
Billy Preston: piano
Klaus Voormann: bass guitar
Gary Wright: electric piano
Ringo Starr: tambourine
Andy White: drums
Mike Gibbins: tambourine
Bobby Whitlock: vocals
Uncredited: harmonium
The Wikipedia article says of the vocals, not entirely accurately:
"The chorus vocals were all sung by Harrison and credited to "the George O'Hara-Smith Singers"."
So what reliable source do you have that has Lennon contributing vocals?
@@markamos1911 Dude we can agree it’s a great song. If you can’t hear Lennons voice clearly in the backing harmonies. I’m sorry, I know what I hear. I’m 61 I’ve been listening to this song for a long time. And when I made my comment. That was just based on my ear. When you responded I googled it just for the hell of it. I don’t know how you can’t hear John’s voice. But if the Beatles Bible says so. As a guy that lived it. It was a big F U too Paul. As their were still bad feelings after the split. Peace Brother just chill and enjoy the music. I wish you well 🙏

Btw, that’s Ringo playing drums on My Sweet Lord…
"Dark Horse" George Harrison
Beautiful!!
OH MY LORD, there are those moments in life when you say ah shit I`ve heard that as you studder I know that, ah that was her/him that sang that, ah shit... that was me back in the 90s at a Kentucky derby party where I ran into a sister named Lana Moorer as all of a sudden a spotlight came on as she was led to the stage where "Poor Georgie" starts bumpin & MC Lyte kicks it...OH MY LORD....keep on rockin Beats & giddyup a Ding Dong
Happy Birthday, Baby George. 25/02/1943
The quiet, dark and mysterious Beatle.
Or was he?
At one of The Beatles' first recording sessions with George Martin, they were asked by George Martin " Is there anything you don't like?" and quick as a flash George Harrison said
"Well for one thing I don't like your tie!"
People forget The Beatles weren't just 3.5 random good looking kids from Liverpool. They were world class musicians who changed the world with their music. Everything that came after them, is a result of them coming before. They made lemons in to lemonade, when they couldn't tour due to Beatlemania, and just went to work in the studio with a daily, hard hat mentality. It's hard to come up with a great hook, because The Beatles already took them all.
When I lost my beloved son, this song helped me so
Same for me when I lost my husband of 40 years. Peace and prayers to you 🙏
George also did one or two of the background harmony vocals. The sonics, and the vibe of the record was produced by my old friend Phil Spector.
His story about how he got the Traveling Willburys together is good
George was the Spiritual Beatle……studied under great Indian Buddhist’s….very new age.
I was one of those subscribers that think his 1st solo was the best of the Beatle solo efforts. And that’s saying a lot. John & Paul had great solo success and underrated is Ringo, Ringo had a few really strong solo albums himself. Quite frankly what they produced as the Beatles from 64 to 70 is pretty amazing in the quality, quantity, the changes which they led and were first in most cases and they all four had major solo success in the 70s is a pretty staggering set of accomplishments but All things must Pass is 2nd to know one in the group!
Said it before. George played some with Delaney and Bonnie near the end of the Beatles. So did Eric Clapton, Dave Mason and eventually Duane Allman. The musicians in Delaney and Bonnie were also Derek's Dominos and played on this album. Bobby Whitlock on keys, Jim Gordon on Drums, Carl Radle on Bass, Bobby Keys on Sax and Jim Price on Trumpet. Eric Clapton and Dave Mason also played on this great triple album.
You also had a lot of Joe cockers musicians for mad dogs and Englishmen come out of Delaney and Bonnie. Such a great incubator for talent. They made everyone that played with them better musicians.
Yes, George wrote all of this. Because George was so open and would allow anyone with talent play with him (and because who would turn down a Beatles, particularly at that time when they were still together or just broke up publicly?), the following names you have heard performed on this recording: (a very young) Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton (of course), Pete Ham and Joey Molland (Badfinger), Bobby Whitlock (Derek & the Dominoes), Gary Brooker (Procol Harum), Ringo (of course), and Alan White (Yes). I would suggest next off All Things Must Pass any of the following: "Hear Me Lord", "Awaiting on You All", "Beware of Darkness", or "Isn't It a Pity."
Under the pressure of John and Paul, George produced diamonds. He wouldn't have gotten to this level without them.
For the this album George Harrison asked Eric Clapton and Bobby Whitlock to to put together a band. They brought Carl Radle on bass, and Jim Gordon on drums. All were members of some-sort with Delaney an Bonnie Bramlett including George. When traveling for a European tour, Clapton and Harrison played guitar for them. The song My Sweet Lord, has only two singers on it. Harrison on vocals, and Whitlock as backup harmony. No one better. It is during the recording of this album not only did Clapton become obsessed with George's wife Patty Boyd, the band Derick and the Dominos was formed consisting of Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, and Jim Gordon
George had a long court case, when the writers of “ He’s so fine “ by the Chiffons claimed My sweet Lord was too close to their song, he settled up.
For “subconscious plagiarism.” What a joke. Regardless, the whole tone of My Sweet Lord is light years away from He’s So Fine. He was attempting to write a song along the lines of “Oh Happy Day.”
@@hmm3484 the chord progressions the exact same moods allot dif glad he settled .. glad we got both
@@hmm3484 Now I’m hearing a mash up with MSL and OHD in my head. 🤍
He didn't settle in the US, he lost. He settled in the UK after the the US loss.
Billy Preston sings this during a concert dedicated to George Harrison
You should listen to the remake on the 30th anniversary edition. The music is much crisper, especially his slide guitar part, but his voice was pretty much destroyed from the throat cancer that would eventually take his life. George wrote most of the songs on the album. The opener was co-written by Bob Dylan, and i think there might have been a cover on the 2nd disc. George got sued over this song for copyright infringement for the song "He's so fine" which ate up a lot of his time and energy for a few years.
Please check out his band, The Traveling Willberries. He's joined by some extremely talented friends! "End of the Line" is a good song to start
On Abbey Road he sings and wrote "Something" and " Here Comes The Sun.
Don`t forget "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and Eric Clapton play`s the solo guitar. It was a wonderful recording.
