Plenty of people think this is the best solo album by any Beatle and I agree with that. Fantastic 5 star album.

Maybe. It is that good. And it was a huge commercial success, being George's first solo attempt. He got some GREAT people to play with him throughout.

George was so talented. He didn't get much of a chance to show it until the Beatles broke up. He died way too young. John was making a great comeback when that idiot assassinated him. I miss both of them. Very talented men.
    RIP George
    RIP John

Killer album! Many of these songs George tried to introduce into the later Beatle’s albums, but he got iced out a bit by John and Paul. So he dropped this monster album on them after the breakup.

Since the early 70s, I know every note of this album like the back of my hand. My Sweet Lord awakened the inner devotion George felt and sang about. Never turned back. All Things Must Pass: best album of all time.
Most overlooked masterpiece on ATMP: The Art of Dying

George had such a recognizable slide guitar style - very melodic, and using more major scale notes than the typical blues based rock slide players of the time. Harrison remixed and re-issued the album much later, cutting down on the amount of reverb and echo that Spector had used, which Harrison disliked.

This album was George Harrison’s masterpiece. Every artist has a recording that defines them, and this one was it for George. I believe it was reported that George had over 200 songs that had never been recorded once the Beatles disbanded, mostly because George and John never permitted more than one or maybe two of his songs on every Beatle album. They actually worked on the title song “All Things Must Pass,” but it still never appeared on a Beatles album. I believe this album is rich with elements from most all genres of music. George was my favorite Beatle. RIP George.

All Things Must Pass is my favorite Beatles solo album. George's exploding talents were on full display by this time, and he was only 26 when he started recording this masterpiece. Hard to believe.

The slide notes are so purposeful, tasteful with impact but in perfect Harrison form he never was about showing off. He put just what was needed! Those horns are great too!

The best solo album by any of the Beatles. Also likely the best triple album ever made. All Things Must Pass is such a great album. The core backing band (Bobby Whitlock, Carl Raddle, and Jim Gordon) were Derek and the Dominos along with Eric Clapton.

George Harrison was very prolific after The Beatles breakup mainly because he was only allowed to record one or two songs per album. After the end he had a huge catalog of great unrecorded material. His solo career was my favorite of The Fab Four. I wore the grooves of this album out

Great tune, dense, innovative mix, no one else sounds like George and his large ensemble of musicians on this brilliant, epic album. From it from try Beware of Darkness and Art of Dying but really, the first 2 Discs of that album are worth a full reaction. Fire is right, my favorite solo album by any ex Beatle and that is saying something, they all have classics. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎶

Hooray! I’m so glad you are diving into this wonderful album! It took me a long time to get around to it, but I love it so much.
Some of my favorites are beware of darkness, isn’t it a pity and behind that locked door.
You mentioned in an earlier reaction that George never got any shine from the Beatles and I agree. I am a huge Beatles fan, but I didn’t really check out George’s solo stuff until I watched the film that Scorsese did about him.
He was an incredibly talented and lovely person.

I really like this cut (although I agree with George himself who, on second thought, believed Spector over-produced it). By the way, I don't think George sounds that much like Lennon here. You're responding to his Northern England accent, the Liverpool accent that all the Beatles had.

Also, the main reason that there was *such* a volume of music on this LP was that much of the material was backlogged ideas that kept being abandoned or outright rejected during latter Beatles sessions. Which meant that Spector spent weeks going through all of the tapes and demos that had been piling up.
Having said all of that, it is only fair to point out that quite a few songs did make the writing/rehearsing name before the breakup, and there is ample video, audio, testimonial stuff out there to show for it. Let 's be real though, so Those other three competing for publishing and royalty real estate, one could only hope for a tiny piece of that action.

The intro epitomizes Spector's "wall of sound." This track is also a great example of Jim Gordon's laid back drumming. He stays out of the way, but his subtle accents and groove are lethal.

  • @MarkJones-mn6uy
    @MarkJones-mn6uy 11 місяців тому

Great album. And like you said, top tier. The reason for that is the large group of top tier musicians who played on the album. A couple of great drummers, especially Ansley Dunbar who played with Frank Zappa, and was the drummer on Journey’s first two albums (which were both musically much better than their commercial hit Infinity album). All the great musicians of that era wanted to play with George, and many were on this album.
The album included three records in a clamshell-style box, with the above photo on the front. The first two records had the typical 3 to 5 or 6 minute songs, but the third record was basically just a bunch of great musicians jamming together on three songs, if I remember correctly. I agree with others that this is the best solo album of any Beatle. Every single song is top tier!
    Thanks for playing it.

  • @quarkwrok

Sublime. Let it Down, Let it Be, but Don't Let me Down. Sure I read somewhere John, Paul and George all went away and wrote a track based around the word 'let', only Paul's Let It Be ended up on the album, John's Don't Let Me Down became the b-side of Get Back and George's track got rejected altogether (along with a lot of other stuff ending up on this album).
Like the way BIG and Charlie are grooving along to it. 🎸

Only Beatle on this Album is possibly Ringo, Wah Wah was George's name for a headache. He was held back by lennon & Mc cartney he wrote some of the Beatles best songs , Something - Here Comes the Sun - While my guitar gently weeps. This Album betters anything by the other two.

Wish they would release a non Phil Spector version of this. I’m not a fan of the whole wall of sound thing. It just sounds muddy to me. McCartney hated the sound of the original Let it be album because of Spector’s sound so much he later rereleased it as Let it be naked. To my ear it is better than the original.

There’s a bare-bones version of Let It Down by George on acoustical guitar. Just him. It’s intimate and quite special. I ended up composing my choreography to it. What a great melody maker he was!
