Seriously I said what the fuck
Can you notice that Jacob is switching the way he sings every time Maro comes in? He goes for a "Maro" version of his voice, and once she steps in he then switches to his full voice so you can have more fuller colour. Its these little things...
That's called a falsetto.
@@thiccdaddy2189 damn. why so violent
@@istan7412 Because simple falsetto isn't what he means. He means Jacob pushed much more breath through his vocal giving it the signature airy wonder that Maro's natural voice has.
Few singers actually know how to not only sound good on solo but also sound good singing with another singer(s)!!
yes he taught her to do it, go listen to her 2015 recordings, her voice is actually pretty bad sounding,. she is doing some whisper falsetto now that he does too because they both are not very pretty singers.
jacob has amazing composing skills and intonation but his actual voice is kind of ugly. same with maro, they both learned to do this sort of whisper falsetto as others are saying here to cover up their poor voices.
Serious hats off to the sound engineer.
agreed
he mixed it himself

Why is this me
This song is so patient. No rush, just taking you somewhere you’ve never been.

I'm going away
See the moon
Watch the night pass
Until the sun rises
Tell me you're coming to see me
Tell me you're coming to stay
I don't know if I'm waiting for you
If I'm dreaming
If I'm going away
See if I meet

That I lost in your heaven
Tell me you're coming to show
What you left there
Tell me what you want and don't want
That it's not my dream

Obrigado!
Shout out to the drummer for playing so tastefully and supporting the music
and all the rest!😁
Agreed! Super tasteful. Honestly, all of them were on point.
Hearing a song that slow groove is satisfying af
what time signature is this? It doesn't feel like 4/4, but it does?
@@soporificsnail8675 the song is a modified bossa nova beat, which is technically notated in 2/4 (thus the even 4/4 feel). the snare-rim hit is played in a clave pattern (3-2, 2-3), and that's what makes it feel like a weird signature :)
Jacob is constantly growing as a musician. I'm so excited to see his growth in the next years.
and somehow gets better than he already is

Everything here is heavenly, Collier is genius. When Maro sings, the heart shudders... It's the most velvety voice I've ever heard. And the Portuguese european language with its more closed vowels, transforms that voice into the most perfect, serene and cozy sound. ❤️ P. S.: She is by far my #1 to win Eurovision this year.
TOTALLY AGREE. Hope Maro is qualifying for good
Could not believe my eyes seeing MARO pop up on the screen, INSTANT VOTE!!
Don't compare Eurovision in this frame of music...please...
João Gilberto would be happy to hear this.
Certainly
Sheesh você está certo kkk
Gilberto would have probably been yelling at the strings for being too loud. He hated Getz's saxophone playing, made them rerecord hundreds of times to try to get him to play softer. Jobim was a master negotiator to hold that ensemble together for the recording.
certamente
I love seeing Mama Collier getting involved, playing with her son.
@Pan Wrebski Ok boomer
@@kirjian 😂🤣😂🎷 I'm a boomer too, but my generation richly deserves the mocking, and I might have to get a t-shirt to spread it around!
Btw, is that his mom on guitar and vocals? She's cool!
She gave him a Harmu piece, too.
@@Gregorypeckory No, on the violin, short hair. And I don't get the "overbearing" comment at all. Here, she just looks like she is concentrating, and, as she normally plays for a well known orchestra and that is probably just the mode they play in. Not too much call for a "smiley" orchestra. ;-P
She is being panned across by the camera @ 0:14, and looks just fine to me. If you look at Jacob's attitudes and actions, I HIGHLY doubt she is "what he said" anyway, but I don't know her. Maybe he got the comment from another vid., really makes no sense to this one here. That, or he's just trolling. More likely the latter.
Also, the old judge a book...cover saw...wisdom there...
I also HAVE to say that I am blown away at how good of a choice it was to use electric bass on this...that muted restraint is almost too much to handle. 🙌🏼
Yes! With the string section I had assumed they would use a double bass, but what a killer move to have the electric bass instead - and Rob Mullarkey's playing is genius
It remains of the touch of Carol Kaye in the Pet sounds album by the Beach Boys
Rob is a great choice at any time!
I hadn't noticed until I read the comment! Nevertheless - yeah I see what you mean. Everything is so delicate at the beginning that even a double-bass might just be too heavy. Maro is amazing in this - everytime it comes up in my playlist I have to stop and get nothing done.

Wow. Schoenberg meets Jobim in heaven. The piano work in this is gorgeous. The singing is gorgeous. The song is gorgeous. The level of musicianship all the way around is stunning. Another work of art.
It only has some modern-sounding classical strings in the beggining. Nothing on a Schoemberg level. Reminds me of Vila-Lobos string quartets

dylan foley I love bossa nova, MARO just does it especially well
Saw Collier in concert earlier this year. When she started singing on "Ocean Wide, Canyon Deep" just about the whole room started bawling. There's something magical about that chick's voice.
@dylan foley she is not brazilian, she is PORTUGUESE. She studied Classic and Jazz.
