Hearing him in this intimate setting Voice and piano is so beautiful, raw and awe inspiring at the same time. Love It! Thanks for posting, it’s gorgeous!
Why do you make me cry when I listen to you? - so piercing is the beauty in these harmonies, it wakens my spirit in an invisible explosion of musical colors. Your music is mind blowing.
Yes. This is when he communicates rather than makes music. I've always wanted more soul and less shimmer. The 600 logic tracks are bravura; this is bravissimo.
Jacob, I reckon you spend a majority of the hours every day creating. How do you make time for relationships with other people and not lose focus on your work?
Yeah, I think in spite of how unbelievable his gorgeous vocal harmonies and arrangements on other songs have been, this just might be my favorite performance of his.
There's a lot of talk about talent these days. Most people aren't talented, they are skilled. (nothing wrong with that btw!! And something to be in awe of) This dude however.. Isn't just skilled. He is mega talented. He just oozes music from every pore. He is music personified!!!
Another AMA question for Jacob: I heard you talking a lot about music but little about lyrics: how does your lyric writing process work? Do you compose the music with a topic/theme in mind? Do you write lyrics around a melodic line you already created in your head?
I forget where the interview is, but he talks about how he creates lyrics as vague as possible so the music can complete the thought, and I think he said he sets lyrics after, if I find the interview I'll post the link
How do you retain the focus to so intimately articulate the deepest truths of the human experience in the face of the the most attractive distractions our species has ever experienced?
This song literally brings tears to my eyes. I don’t know why, but on my worst days I listen to this and it makes me cry but it makes the day a little better.

Im happy that i clicked this video. At first i thought that it would be overloaded with harmonies, but this actually was nice to listen and had some substance
Hey, Jacob! Do you write music for sentimental reasons, or is it more for your showcase of your musical capabilities? Is it a mixture of both? Thanks, and keep up the amazing work! :)
Yo, Casey! Great question. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd say either would be true for me. To create for 'sentimental' reasons would mean to focus on the past - past emotions, past thoughts. I think music can only really exist in the present - though you can learn so much from your past. Certainly music is a language capable of expressing some profound emotional worlds... I've always loved to learn it and experiment with it for that reason. Having always adored the left-brain and right-brain approach to music-making in equal measure throughout my musical life, I know the feeling of exaggerating an aspect of a musical idea because I find it exciting from a 'knowledge' base... It's an important feeling to have to grow and push yourself, and every musician needs a phase of their life when they do that hungry gathering of information. But when that 'thinking' takes over a songwriting process, the real creativity stops altogether, I've found. If something I am creating moves me, then I know I'm doing it right. That's my bottom line, I guess. I wouldn't describe myself as much of a technician on any instrument - but I don't think you need to be to tell good stories - you just need to get the 'gestures' right. I've spent longer on focussing on what all that language means, and why things can feel certain ways, than trying to master a technique on an instrument. It's hard to focus on that real creativity that if you're trying to please everybody, and next to impossible if you're trying to impress everybody - the real magic comes from a different place, for me. I'm following my goosebumps :-)
@@jacobcollier "I've spent longer on focussing on what all that language means, and why things can feel certain ways" Would love for you to write a book or something on this subject someday!
@@jacobcollier I can relate to this. If your music doesn't move you, then it is unlikely to move anyone else. Although that might not always be true, that's the standard I use. Thanks for the goosebumps!

Jacob Collier’s music simultaneously cures my anxiety while also making me have so much more lol
Amazing! A chord from Jacob makes me appreciate life even on the darkest of days.
I just cried my heart out. Thank you for being there with me.
3:42-3:47 that riff is just so precious with the timbre of his voice oh my God.
Why do you make me cry when I listen to you? - so piercing is the beauty in these harmonies, it wakens my spirit in an invisible explosion of musical colors. Your music is mind blowing.
Probably one of the earthlings who can save the world! I sometimes wonder he is a product of Earth, he is so universal!
Yes. This is when he communicates rather than makes music. I've always wanted more soul and less shimmer. The 600 logic tracks are bravura; this is bravissimo.
This is the most beautiful feeling
The way Jacob writes and performs music makes me want to cry from the bliss and happiness it makes me feel. Something like that.
Jacob, I reckon you spend a majority of the hours every day creating. How do you make time for relationships with other people and not lose focus on your work?
Easy- create music with people.
@@ajesco Oh! Genius! :)
Every genius who ever walked the Earth had to face the same dilemma, so I doubt even Jacob would have the perfect answer, but A J is probably right :)
He is brave and has a very big heart. I am so glad we are contemporaries.
It's so beautiful!! Keep these beautiful arrangements and songs coming to us. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yeah, I think in spite of how unbelievable his gorgeous vocal harmonies and arrangements on other songs have been, this just might be my favorite performance of his.
Jacob is a god. He doesn't need excessive reverb and mixing, its just feels unauthentic
gUYS HE HAS CROCS ON.
I cannot express in words how much I love this man 😂😂😂
Hahaha, I had to go back and replay the video just to see that 😂
It makes me cry..i hardly do that so thank you jacob collier. Need more of this style please. Its so therapeutic.
This is the second track I have heard from this guy and I am blown away. Stunning. Pure love.
Thank you so much for your beautiful gifts.
jacob's music makes me feel something I've never felt before and I want to live in it forever
There's a lot of talk about talent these days.
Most people aren't talented, they are skilled. (nothing wrong with that btw!! And something to be in awe of)
This dude however.. Isn't just skilled. He is mega talented.
He just oozes music from every pore. He is music personified!!!
listenning this song on 2020
imagine legends from the romanticism piano watching this, He is blowing my mind with those softly chords
I always get so emotional when I hear him perform. Such an amazing time to be alive to experience his passion!
Another AMA question for Jacob: I heard you talking a lot about music but little about lyrics: how does your lyric writing process work? Do you compose the music with a topic/theme in mind? Do you write lyrics around a melodic line you already created in your head?
I forget where the interview is, but he talks about how he creates lyrics as vague as possible so the music can complete the thought, and I think he said he sets lyrics after, if I find the interview I'll post the link
ua-cam.com/video/LdtK_oiyJAo/v-deo.html 17:50 he answers this question
How do you retain the focus to so intimately articulate the deepest truths of the human experience in the face of the the most attractive distractions our species has ever experienced?
This song literally brings tears to my eyes. I don’t know why, but on my worst days I listen to this and it makes me cry but it makes the day a little better.
Jacob is an old soul. Everything about this performance is beautiful, it makes me cry. Please have more Jacob Collier videos.
Hi Jacob!
1. I’m in an extremely stressful phase of life but your music (especially your hide and seek cover, which is my favourite song in the whole wide world) has really been helping me through. Thank you so so much.
2. I’ve met the most amazing people through your community. You unite beautiful minds with your own.
3. You mentioned somewhere that there’s a lick used in every song through DJESSE - is there any chance you could tell us what it is?
singthehajanga here here! i’ve met the most incredible person of all time though jacob collier :)
singthehajanga! Thank you so much! I am overjoyed to be connecting your world with new people! That's what it's all about!! There are so many thematic 'fragments' to dig up across all the Djesses if you look for them - both lyrically and musically. But I don't want to ruin the treasure hunt for you. Good luck and loadsa love!
@@williamwant5482 @Jacob Collier thank you and I love both of you too ♥♥♥

Jacob, you know what, you are the most impossible human on earth. You have a perfect pitch, you play most of the instruments (the hardest once to learn), you compose your own songs, you edit your music videos, like man, WHO ARE YOU???
I LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK. 🥰❤
He is astounding. Brilliantly played and sung, dipping down to the perfect intonation of that low note, and soaring to the high notes, like a bird. I suspect he has perfect pitch. Genius, Jacob is.
Thank you star that fell on the earth for us, to bring healing.
Hey Jacob,
My deepest gratitude for your music. I'm continuously spreading the word among my friends after having seen you live twice already. ;)
I want to ask you - are you genuinely happy in life? What's the most important thing that gives you strength and confidence?
Cheers and hopefully see you on stage soon,
Niklas
I am so glad I found Jacob on Tiny Desk - I fell in love with his music and sheer brilliance. I’m completely stoked to be able to see him at the Hollywood Bowl in September. Counting down the weeks ❤
Et voilà que un ange est descendu parmi nous et on ne le savait pas.....magnifique
@@jacobcollier Wisdom..
@@jacobcollier "I'm following my goosebumps". What a quote. What a guy
@@jacobcollier I can relate to this. If your music doesn't move you, then it is unlikely to move anyone else. Although that might not always be true, that's the standard I use. Thanks for the goosebumps!
Tears welling up. You, Jacob, made the songlyrics come to life and I thank you for that.
Não é a representação, mas é a própria sensibilidade. Bravíssimo, Jacob! Que os Deuses da música te amparem nesta sua magnífica, linda e emocionante trajetória. Você é para além da própria sensibilidade!!❤
43 people must not like Crocs... cause it's impossible to not be completely awestruck by this performance. Amazing Mr. Jacob Collier... long time fan!
Great piece of art, both auditory and visualy! Props for whoever shot this, very inspiring!
and for Jacob...no words left...
Greatest thing I've ever done is discover Jacob's music I can't believe I've went as long as I did without hearing this master musician!
This is the most unique thing I have heard in a long time.
I am bowing as you take your bow. Beautiful Jacob.
Hey Jacob, first of all, this was absolutely beautiful. I love how every performance of yours is different and coloured with varying shades of emotion. I was wondering, are there any aspects of music that appear to you visually? If so, what image does music paint for you in your mind? Thanks so much!
Its crazy how inspiring this can be. Never felt like this while the last 15 years. Thanks Jacob
This is so beautiful it hurts me.
What a time to be alive, among such modern greats:) Jacob will be in history books
