Jacob... After watching this once at work yesterday (and barely holding myself together), I decided that I'll hook this up to the living room screen and the sound system after dinner later that night and invite the family to watch/listen. My three teen/preteen kids usually wander off to their rooms or elsewhere in the house but I asked them to stick around. Everyone in the family knows the Coldplay original. So there we were, all five of us: myself, my wife, and the kids. There was a bit of whispered chatter between my daughters, the oldest and the youngest of the three, but it quickly died out when you started singing the first verse. My son, the middle child, was on his phone but immediately put it away, too. For six minutes after that there was an absolute pin drop silence in the room. At the end, my daughters were hugged together and in silent tears. My wife had snuggled up to me and she was a mess as well. My 16 year old son had his head in both hands, with a 'woah!' look on his face as he turned to me, while I was with watery eyes and smiling back at them all. A few long seconds passed until my youngest daughter, 12, whispered, "Please play it again." We watched it twice more. Everyone in the room will never forget that evening in a very, very long time. Thank you, sir.

Jacob Collier is a genre of music that is carefully concocted from heaven and chilled with the Seraphims' wings. I am still mindblown that the internet can actually handle such talent without its seams breaking.
i was reading some comments on reddit on a group that was just dissing Jacob in everyway possible from his voice to what they call over-complicated voicings. Let me say the one common theme I saw in those comments was that none of those people had "hope". In fact it seemed that they had the opposite of hope. They didn't like the feeling of memory, reflection and nostalgia that some of his music evokes. Jacob brings such love and empathy to everything he touches and there are those that think that is outdated? Old fashioned? How can anyone say that after listening to this masterpiece. I find myself coming back to this rendition daily and each time I think I can get through it, I start crying. I read some of the comments in this feed, and start crying from those. I am so happy to have Jacob Collier in this world. He can't be from this planet, as he is to joyous and wonderous. I think it's fine when someone doesn't like an artist's music, but when trolls on the internet want to spew their hatred for any artist, I find it so disheartening. I look for the people who redeem humanity, and Jacob Collier, you are one of them.
Hi there jacob, I love that you're talking about this and dedicating this cover to it, your music and voice really makes me feel better when I'm really anxious or just feeling kind of depressed and I bet thousands of people think the same
Have you all listened to his Lionel Richie's 'All night long' cover? I bet you have, but for you who haven't, just watch it you'll love it. All his talent is on show, his mastery of ALL instruments, his voice, his arrangements, his harmonies... Goose bumps, hurray, halleluyah, bravo, to die for !!!
I can't imagine. Tommy, I am so very glad for people like Jacob who have the heart and talent to sooth the deepest parts of us. Have you heard of guitarist and composer Pat Metheny? His music is moving and has been played at many many births and deaths. It can be cathartic and transformative and inspiring, but not always. Maybe check out this ua-cam.com/video/X2FxmPR854s/v-deo.html
i heard this song for the first time a few days after a mother figure of mine died. she meant the absolute world to me. i sincerely believe that this song saved me. i remember hearing it for the first time and it made me feel seen and understood. i am now about to move out. i'm scared i'm changing my life irreparably. i know i’m making the right choice but my family means so much to me. we are not perfect but we love each other. my brother introduced me to your music a few years ago. thank you for saving me, thank you for making your music, thank you.
yep my favourite genre of music id definitely jacob playing a piano cover of a song i thought i already knew and then crying as i put it on repeat for three weeks solid:)
I like how you can hear each note when JC does a run...it doesn't all just smear together like it does with most people (including myself when I sing in the shower, LOL). What an impressive musician and vocalist he is. Amazing.
Jacob is the ultimate core of musicianship of my generation. The freedom to play whatever he wants, collab with whomever he wants, express himself precisely how he needs to... it's just the absolute ultimate goal. He's a bright, bright star were all looking up to, longing to be there where he is. But Jacob is his own space, I bow down to this unmatched mastery of musicianship.
This song means so much to me and to hear it performed so incredibly beautifully is truly a blessing. Much love to everyone in the world. I hope this song reaches others as it has me. What a great cover.
well said !!! ... i may not agree with some of the politics or sentiments at times of either but i can truly say without fear or favour that jacob is the most ... well ... he is the most ... show me another with this level of emotional ... errr how to describe it ... magnetism ? and of course stephen ... well ... he plays so well with the language and gentle humour and yet in QI wasn't afraid to take a bold stride in a fauvoured direction... nice to find a soul who can comment on this tube without the seemingly inevitable vitriol thank you
Currently grieving my relationship. 3 weeks post breakup. This hits hard. Currently lying in bed crying. He had BPD and ADHD and with it came a lot of challenges...especially without the help of therapy. But...I forgive him. I have to in order to move forward. All the abuse, the toxicity....I'm stronger than this and I deserve to be with someone who wants to be with me. Someone who chooses me the way I chose him every time. I deserve that. He does too. This pain feels impossible to overcome, but I know time heals, I know it will all be okay. This song gives me hope.
The lyrics: When you try your best, but you don't succeed When you get what you want, but not what you need When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone, but it goes to waste How can it be worse? Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you And high up above or down below When you're too in love to let it go But if you never try you'll never know Just what you're worth Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you

He worked for coldplay for many many years, most of my life (I'm 22 now) and at his funeral I did a cover of the scientist because that was his favourite song of theirs. Today has been particularly hard for me and i've been unable to do my uni assignments but stumbling across this today has really helped me. You've created such a beautiful version Jacob and finding this has made my day.
I hope youre okay
❤️❤️
As time passes life pushes in, crowds out, says “not now” but music/experiences like this are central, non-optional, elemental aspects of honesty and life integrity that warrant diving into again. I hope you have gifted your truest self time to dwell in this place. It’s honestly rare to come across these avenues of connection. I am writing to encourage you, and others who might read this, to shut off all the other noise in your life for these few short minutes and hear this tune again.
Your father must have been a great guy!
Bless you god!
3:34 the way he comes down from that high note is literally magic.
yeah its 3 years later and guess what ... im in tears listening to this and that descent is the main reason
How can one be so talented, thanx to the one who has gifted you to this world :)
Oh, Jacob...one of my favorite songs!
You are a magnificent gift to all! Blessings and thank you again and again and ...! This is beautiful! ♡
Jacob, your voice has really matured and sounds so beautiful. Thank you for this performance. From a guy living with stage 4 non-Hodgkins lymphoma cancer. .
pls get better, thank u luv from germany
Praying you will get better!
@@stevenmejiamusic3495 Thank you for your very kind thought and prayer, Steven and Woten. I am happy to report that I am now in remission. I pray the same for everyone else struggling with all forms of cancer.
@@bruin4937 that's great! God bless you
@@stevenmejiamusic3495 Thank you, and you too.
He took a song, made it his own, and created something beautiful and unique.
Absolutely. I feel like this is something we all do in our heads when we hear songs, but we don’t have the capacity to reflect it like Jacob does. Everyone hears something unique, and if we could just express it, it would be beautiful. But I think he inspires people to try, or at least want to
4:03 unexpected modulations are the best modulations.
Just as i was reading you comment :}
6:20 I love it! Not quite a modulation, but everybody expects B major to go to E major with a 3rd in the melody, and suddenly the 3 became the 5 in c sharp major! So beautiful!
@@iMannyLP Unexpected substitutions are the best substitutions :D
@@iMannyLP He loves doing that, and for good reason. I think he also did that with You've Got A Friend at the end when he played it live

Truely beautiful. Thanks Jacob
The soul of the whole world just in its voice and notes on the piano. Thank you Jacob, thank you for taking care of my heart.
Beautiful 🔥🙏🏻
Klaus likes Jacob Collier!!
What about a chili tasting with Jacob Collier?
Du laver fantastiske videoer!
Wow this is one hell of an unexpected crossover
When CK gives you a 🔥 it MEANS something
Now we need Chili Klaus to play with lick after eating a spicy pepper.
Jacob Collier is a genre of music that is carefully concocted from heaven and chilled with the Seraphims' wings. I am still mindblown that the internet can actually handle such talent without its seams breaking.
Genistrek, både musikken til coldplay og din verson.👍
I’m not crying... you’re crying 😭
i was reading some comments on reddit on a group that was just dissing Jacob in everyway possible from his voice to what they call over-complicated voicings. I look for the people who redeem humanity, and Jacob Collier, you are one of them.
please let it never end. it's so beautiful that it makes me realise that the music only helps me heal myself. thank you jacob you are the greatest
I'm watching this and freaking out! You're one of a kind. My head hurts, I squeezed it too hard but I'm smiling.
why did you squeeze your head
Chills everybody
Me too I cry every time I hear this 😭 But healing tears🙏🏽

Hi there jacob, I love that you're talking about this and dedicating this cover to it, your music and voice really makes me feel better when I'm really anxious or just feeling kind of depressed and I bet thousands of people think the same
his music has definitely calmed me down from being on the verge of an anxiety attack before
for all of jacob's multi instrumental talents, his voice is what i enjoy the most
Why do we never talk about his vocal range
Have you all listened to his Lionel Richie's 'All night long' cover? I bet you have, but for you who haven't, just watch it you'll love it. All his talent is on show, his mastery of ALL instruments, his voice, his arrangements, his harmonies... Goose bumps, hurray, halleluyah, bravo, to die for !!!
Not sure why I'm still up at 5:30 AM, lying in bed with tears down my face listening to this, but thank you
Joining you.
Some of us are sad , some tired others glad to find company
One of the most talented musicians in the world. PERIOD.
That was so beautiful Jacob. I lost my mum to cancer so this song resonated deeply with me.
Thank YOU so much!!!
Much love.
Tommy.
The same thing happened to me, Tommy. Keep on going strong! God bless you~
... und wieder ist die Welt für einen Moment schöner!
Danke, Jacob ♡
i heard this song for the first time a few days after a mother figure of mine died. she meant the absolute world to me. i sincerely believe that this song saved me. i remember hearing it for the first time and it made me feel seen and understood.
i am now about to move out. i'm scared i'm changing my life irreparably. i know i’m making the right choice but my family means so much to me. we are not perfect but we love each other. my brother introduced me to your music a few years ago.
thank you for saving me, thank you for making your music, thank you.
When somebody listens to this not the first, second, but the 100th plus time and you still blow their mind, that’s insane. Unreal ❤
Lovin the "Jacob just finished a song" face at the end
yep my favourite genre of music id definitely jacob playing a piano cover of a song i thought i already knew and then crying as i put it on repeat for three weeks solid:)
Holy Sh*t!!! Beyond. Just beyond. His musicality is STUNNING.
but did you like it ?
what he does with his voice... it's one of those things that make you believe in miracles
he really is the messi of music
I like how you can hear each note when JC does a run...it doesn't all just smear together like it does with most people (including myself when I sing in the shower, LOL). What an impressive musician and vocalist he is. Amazing.
I was just in another universe... Thank you Jacob!
My brother left this world almost a year ago and today I remembered it, I was sad. This music cured me, again🖤
Jacob Collier: When the pure beauty of music makes you cry.....Thank you, Jacob !
Jacob Collier is an absolute master of his craft. This is simply stunning.
His voice is actually so under appreciated it’s gorgeous
you are the musical gift to the world as Stepehen Fry is , in trhe domain of language Thank you
well said !!! ... i may not agree with some of the politics or sentiments at times of either but i can truly say without fear or favour that jacob is the most ... well ... he is the most ... show me another with this level of emotional ... errr how to describe it ... magnetism ?
and of course stephen ... well ... he plays so well with the language and gentle humour and yet in QI wasn't afraid to take a bold stride in a fauvoured direction...
nice to find a soul who can comment on this tube without the seemingly inevitable vitriol
thank you
Currently grieving my relationship.
I don't know who this "Cold Play" is,
but they sure are gonna blow up after this cover,
way to go Jacob!!
You’re so funny
haha
Bless Jacob’s humble heart
i bet you're fun at parties.
😂 love u
All I can say is: Thank you, Jacob
Get it!!
You know what your followers are waiting for.
As a trombone player and music lover, please. Please please. Collab with this genius
YES DO A COLLAB! Trombonists worldwide need this!
My favourite Trombone player commenting on my favourite pianist/singer. We need that collab!!!
Your voice is like an old friend i haven't heard from in a long time.... Reassuring they're still there and that everything will be ok.
Jacob Collier and his music makes this cruel world a better place.
The lyrics:
When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
How can it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
1 more to 100
And he sings “too in love to let it show” instead. I love it
Most emotionally touching JC vocals I've heard!
The original song is already beautiful, but this cover... man, it's the loveliest thing ever ❤️
Jacob busily making the music people will still be listening to in 400 years. Facts.
And in four hundred years, we can't just let his legacy die like this. We choir members have gotta stick together!
No. In just 10 years, AI will make music far better than any human ever could.
@@fredjimbob2962 YOU SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH!
you give me hope - hope gives love and light
I have heard Fix You many times, but I'm crying watching this. Jacob is amazing. With the context he put in the beginning, and I see his sincere singing and he's like putting his all soul to the song, this performance is super amazing. The message of the song is brought soooo more powerful than I used to hear. Jacob you're awe!
this my friends is the definition of passion
I just sat at my desk for several minutes stunned and amazed after I watched and listened to this. Then I watched and mostly listened again. I just had to...
I don't think Willy Wonka himself could produce a chocolate river as rich and smooth as Jacob's voice. My metaphorical hat is well and truly off for you sir
Thats a disgusting image and is no where near as profound or quaint as it sounded in your head lol

Thank you for offering this song to those suffering from cancer
To have that level of technical ability, and the ability to emotionally connect with a song and audience, is one in a million ❤️
More like one in a billion. If it was a million we’d have thousands of Jacob Colliers
