Zach is a PERFECT example of what it takes to be a drummer for hire, especially in the genres he specializes in. Just... wow. Amazing precision, every note is played with such specific intention. You don't see that often. This is absolutely how you get the gig.

But, hot take, I think that maybe Sting knows more about the drummer he wants than you. Zach's precision, just in terms of consistency and time keeping, is pretty much flawless. He is like a machine. And I can tell by watching him, that's exactly why Sting chose him. Today especially, if you wanna "make it," Zach is exactly the type of musician you need to be. No ego, he's not trying to get "his thing" in the song. He's not trying to draw attention to himself. Not trying to be a celebrity. Not caring about people like you comparing him to the people that came before, and just doing what Sting pays him to do.

I seem to see so few modern players with splashes, they all seem to just have a couple of huge crashes. As Vinnie using splahes alot on the sting songs i wonder Zach added one to emulate those parts or already had it . (I dont know what paiste it is but sounds just like my K 10")

Saw Zach play with sting in Cardiff in the summer. Kit sounded fab, he played absolutely perfectly, I thoroughly enjoyed the concert. I’ve been a sting fan for many years and let’s face it vinnie is a god, but zach did a fantastic job. He wasn’t trying to pull off vinnie ridiculous fills, he just locked the whole band together for the night. The grooves zach plays on the other tracks here are equally superb.

Was on the Sting concert last year in Oslo, where Zach was playing. Very good concert ! I think, it's really good that Sting plays with a bunch of younger musicians, that bring in also their own vibe. Well done Zach! And your own songs are really cool!

Even if I for example don't hear the ghost notes on the snare many or most of the people play I think it's important to keep the feeling of the groove. The bassdrum sounds very different later and at the end again in the original and I love that.
Studied, precise, focused, technical, respectful, and most importantly a "good hang" as we all like to say. Zach seems to be an almost perfect embodiment of the professional drummer. You can tell he was the one practicing when others were sleeping or partying. I really dig the Tricky Bits stuff. It's always impressive to see a drummer singing.

What a great song to finish the episode with. I felt it was kind of a reminder that it is not only about the huge names, but about everything else we experience around music, which brings me back to the time I saw him live. Great respect for Zach Jones, I saw the gig in Munich last year and the band delivered, what a show. At first, I didn't know him, but I was in the concert with a person who knew him personally from his time in NY. And I sincerely said, damn who is the drummer? And my friend said, yeah men just what Stings music needs. That cemented my love and appreciation for Stings music and career, so I am thankful that he got the gig, because It was one of the best concerts I´ve ever been in my life.
This guy is a deceptively amazing drummer. It is extremely difficult to play so precisely and so “vanilla”, and I mean that in the best way possible. Serious expert level shit here. Also, those may be the best sounding hi hats I’ve ever heard

I saw him with sting earlier this year in Melbourne Australia. Nice groove very solid....and he comes across a very nice humble guy...goes to show, its much more than being a good player..it’s a bout being a good person too. Easy to hang with....

I am learning Shape of my heart on guitar while watching this. The funny part that came out in the Rick Beato interview, is some other UA-cam channel, that didn't do their research, did a tutorial on the song, and said "the guy that plays it live, changed the chord because it is too hard to play." The guy that plays it live is Dominic Miller.
I have read a lot of comments of people criticizing Zach for not playing a bunch of chops. They are totally misguided. Zach is a musician who plays drums, not a drummer trying to show off and impress others. Everything that he plays is perfect for the music and very tasty. I am quite impressed, regardless of whether he plays for Sting. Zach is an outstanding musician, as evidenced by his self-penned releases. Good stuff!!!

'If I Ever Lose My Faith In You' is one of the best groove studies basically ever, Zach has such a great pocket here, he CRUSHED it.

I saw zack with sting in halifax Canada. Watching his solid and simple playing made me reevaluate my playing. So solid, it drove the whole show.

He's an incredibly clean drummer with a great sound. Very good drummer! And he just said it: you have to treat every gig as your dream gig and everyone is gonna tell that is guaranteed that you're gonna be good. I really keep that message.

The funny part that came out in the Rick Beato interview, is some other UA-cam channel, that didn't do their research, did a tutorial on the song, and said "the guy that plays it live, changed the chord because it is too hard to play." The guy that plays it live is Dominic Miller.
I have read a lot of comments of people criticizing Zach for not playing a bunch of chops. They are totally misguided. Zach is a musician who plays drums, not a drummer trying to show off and impress others. Everything that he plays is perfect for the music and very tasty. I am quite impressed, regardless of whether he plays for Sting. Zach is an outstanding musician, as evidenced by his self-penned releases. Good stuff!!!
Pre fabricated sentences you always here. When you listen to the song with your eyes closed and you can't tell who's playing cause the musician sounds generic it's just a shame.
