Best and most detailed breakdown of this masterpiece !! Congratulations Mr. Chris Hoffmann, you are an incredible drummer! Thank you for this lesson and for the inspiration!!
Beautiful breakdown of this challenging track. For people like me (drummers who don't have the expertise or extra time/patience to do the in depth analysis ourselves), this sort of thing is invaluable to learn drum parts I wouldn't ordinarily have the time to learn. I'd love something like this for the Jawbox song "Chinese Fork Tie". I understand it when I'm listening to it, but as soon as I try to play it, it all falls apart.
Man... Jawbox! The last time I listened to them was 20 years ago. I looked that song up, it's in 6/8, so like here but count to 6, not to 5. I'd skip the intro and start from after the bass joins, it's much easier to feel and count the 6s. Once you figure it out you'll figure out the rest.
Integrating the splashes!! What a great way of putting it ! Thank you for helping me decipher those accents, I have really struggled over the last few weeks and it is finally clicking! Regards !
Can you imagine Sting bringing this song to the studio and having to come up with something to play. Vinnie nailed it and then some. Hec I'm having a hard time just to play it. Amazing. 🥁❤️
Thank you so much for doing this! Your breakdown of figuring out the drum parts is stellar! Your approach and methods are fantastic! Keep them coming.👍🙏😊✌️🥁
While personally for myself I've transcribed this and broke this down for myself somewhile ago... I couldn't even today imagine myself breaking this down for my own students as well as this gentleman does. Boy, even if his break down didn't alter my own findings, he altered how best I could teach it and explain it. A teacher of teachers is the value of this video. Atleast for me! I've no problem sending any students who request a lesson in this tune and it's odd meter, poly rhythm concepts to this video and this guys explanation. I'm impressed
I remember the days before UA-cam where you had to listen and transcribe these things yourself. Now it seems like you just find guys like Chris online that do all the hard work for you. I guess that's both a good and bad thing for your development.
Always a relief to have the score explained as it’s played rather than an approximation from a poor drum sheet. I’ve seen some that have a second kick within the bar and accordingly throws the whole rhythm mechanics out. Excellent focus on hi-hat accents shows this is using rudiments in an independent way with constant and varied separation from the core time signature; yes that Vinnie ‘feel’ is where you realise if you’ve ‘got it’ or just keeping time. Sting continuing with a more subtle ballad with all the chops Mr C behind the kit, can bring.
So cool, to see this song in tutorial! I remeber when I heard it first time as a teenager and thought if I could play this would be incredible... After many, many years I still can't, but now I found this video 😛👍 Where is most incredible part at the end of song with crazy toms fills? 😢
@@ChrisHoffmannTube I like very much this video! I tried to play this song several years ago, because I was especially attracted from this song.. but I had never found an instructional video about it, and I really like yours, I find it really beautiful and useful and thanks again!
@@ChrisHoffmannTube I don't think to do a video of my drum exercises, because I'm not a professional, sorry! :D I am only a passionate! I will use your video for my exercises of the future,I love this song, and Vinnie Colaiuta is a legendary great master! Maybe his figure frightens me, in fact, because he plays very difficult rhythms, with an impeccable touch, for a self-taught drummer like me! And I've never seen any explanations from him regarding this piece, either. But you, here, make everything easier, thank you! :) Goodbye! ps.I have a basic set, composed by a Crash and a Ride. Instead of the Splash, I use a Crash (UFIP Vibra Series,17")
Great job explaining! I believe there's one more tricky thing in the chorus, where the bell of the ride cymbal goes over the bar. Definitely subscribing 👍
Can you please make available the complete transcript of Vinnie Colaiuta’s Drum part for thu song maybe on a PDF file That would make perfect sense so we could take the transcription the note by note, transcription of videos, playing and study at looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
Your channel is better than Drumeo when explaining things

excellent my friend! thank you a lot!
Chris, can you make this score available as a transcription on PDF from beginning to end that would be great if you can make it available
Excellent instruction. Especially for those who learn buy seeing. Thanks!

This is a really good lesson. Super informative. Thank you!
Very nice. Except those splashes with hihat triplets, he plays it all with one hand.
You‘re right. I just felt this sticking would be convenient to play 😊
But the outro at the very end of the song is really amazing with the drum fills and exquisite stick control.
Excellent break down Chris thanks for posting this
Very nice work
Thank you so much. I wanted to learn this for so long 🙏
hello, first of all congratulations on your drumming. then I wanted to know if you produce your scores and if you sell them?
very clearly explained :)
the genius is include all this in a song
Thanks a lot!
Vero good lesson!!!!
vielen vielen dank, you have explained this very well indeed
This is fantastic.
Excellent!
Amazing
What is the metronome software you are using. Looks like numbers 1,2,3 4, 5. Seems to work well.
Muito bom!
We still wait for BMTH pack release guys
It amazes me that you've actually figured out all the different parts but you have no feel for the grooove, but thanks for figuring this out
Soooooo Sweeeeeett!!!
Love your videos and how you break down songs. Great job! What software do you use for your music notation?
thank you steve. I write the music notation with Sibelius.
@@ChrisHoffmannTube Thanks Chris!
Are those Noble and Cooley drums??
Fill into first chorus is wrong pretty sure
Looking at the official sheet music now
Tell me where you get backing tracks without drums. I also want to find Seven days without drums
There's an app called Moises where you can remove the drums :)
Very nice breakdown on a rather challenging drum track. Well done!
