It’s time for an all-American DRAG RACE!
Mat’s lining up in a Ford Mustang, and he’s about to go head-to-head against a 2008 Dodge NASCAR! But which will come out on top - Dodge, or Ford?
Well for starters, let’s check out the stats. The NASCAR is powered by a 5.9-litre naturally-aspirated V8 that can deliver 900hp and 730Nm of torque (although it’s currently producing around 700hp). This power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox, and the car weighs in at just 1,400kg. In terms of monetary value, it’s worth around £100,000.
Then alongside it, we have the road-going Ford Mustang. This is powered by a 5-litre naturally-aspirated V8 that can produce 451hp and 527Nm. This power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 10-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and the car tips the scales at 1,843kg. If you’re looking to pick one up now, it’ll cost around £50,000.

NASCAR always does a rolling start to be fair, and they don’t have traction control or anything like that either.
thats what i was thinking. nascar is more a endurance race, not so much about acceleration. who can hit the perfect line with the perfect speed over a long time without its car breaking down.

They're from the UK so they think Nascar is "stewpid". They don't care to make it look bad, because if they didn't they would've had the nascar race the mustang from a roll, which is what it was designed to do, instead of a dig.

Actually it has both the converter and 4 clutches. I own one, in dragrace mode it changes gears on full power! I hope they used drag mode because that is the fastest. I also have magneride that also sets the stiffness for drag race.

How the F could a 700hp V8 be so slow?
Because the cup car is not meant for 0-60. Every Nascar race starts as a rolling start, not F1 style. Longer gears also mean more top speed. The Garage 56 Nascar from last year's Le Mans also had a different transmission for the corners.

This was the absolute worst video I've seen them do. And then the NPC's in the comments who think this is some sort of win. 😂 If they had brought on a car of any other racing discipline they would've had a full crew to make sure the car is running optimally. Heck, they even do that with street tuned production cars.

As an owner of a Mustang GT, Can confirm that Matt did not in fact use the "sportiest setting". The car has limited power when you just shift the gear selector into sport. You also have to put flip the switches underneath the center console to change drive modes from Wet -> Normal -> Sport -> Sport+ -> Track -> Drag race. For the engine and trans function to allow PEAK performance you need to turn on Sport +, drag or track mode.

Speaking as an F1 snob this was ridiculous. It's comparing apples to oranges. That Ford Mustang can't go 200 mph around an oval for two hours or so. The stock car isn't geared for drag racing. And for that amount of hp it's too light to put it down on the road in a drag race.

It's always the same : Porsche or BMW give a number and an inexperienced driver can beat it on it's first try. A japanese brand give a number and an inexperienced driver can reach it on it's first try. But when an American brand give a number, you'll need a prep surface, race fuel, race tires, optimal temperature and atmospheric pressure and a driver who trained all their life on it to reach it

It's funny how crappy nascars are. The lights are only painted on and they can't drive on damp or wet surfaces. Nascar races have to be stopped and the race tracks must be blown dry buy special trucks. And They go around corners like a Mercedes Sprinter even with slicks
None of what you said is even remotely true. They can’t drive on damp surfaces because they have drag radials. And yes, nascar has Goodyear rain tires. They also race on on road courses like Sonoma, Daytona road course, Watkins glen, do I need to continue??

Hey dumb dumb, nascar uses good year radial tires when they are racing at road courses. They also use those same tires when there is inclement weather. So to answer my initial response, yes, nascar races in the rain and on road courses.
They run at 200+ mph for like 3+ hours, how is that crappy? It's not built to be a circuit racer. Just because it's not your cup of tea, doesn't mean it's crap.

The Mustang does not have a Dual Clutch Transmission. It is a normal torque converter gearbox.

@@Akiemf I never said it wouldn't, chances are it will. Except the difference will be much smaller because it has far less traction issues on unprepped surface due to AWD. It will never shave off almost a full second like the Mustang does, I'd expect less than half a second and even that's quite generous.
