      - A listener pointed out another example in scripture where being called “dead” doesn’t mean that the person cannot respond positively. Abimelech is called “a dead man” but still given an opportunity to change course so as to live (Genesis 20:3,7)
      - If God pre-decideds everything in my life (even sin), then why I'm the one who is supposed to be punished? Didn't God made me decided that I'll do (commit) that sin..
      - "God is not being unjust because God is just leaving them in their sin". But isn't God the one who already decided that what sin they will commit? If God is the one making him sin then why should that person recieve punishment
      - If a elect and non-elect baby is , and both standing in front of The Judgement seat, what will God say to the non-elect baby? "Your sin is that you were born".

    • @darbyochill
      @darbyochill 26 днів тому

      @@scienceandbibleresearchlol, where faith comes from isn’t in Ephesians 2:8 at all. Calvinists wouldn’t even say that. You’re mistaken. It says where salvation comes from which is by grace through faith (which by the way means the faith clearly precedes the faith because the faith must be there in order for the grace to come through it. It’s like saying I came through my mother. Obviously my mother came first.) secondly, the Bible tells us exactly where faith comes from: so then Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17. So it clearly isn’t some supernatural inner working that magically happens to an individual. No, instead, God searches the heart and sees who is truly humble and faithful.

    In Ephesians 1, Paul is explaining, just like he’s doing in Romans 8, all of the blessings that have now ALSO come to the Gentiles. All of the blessings had been thought to only belong to the Jews, but the “great mystery” that had “now been revealed” was that God did NOT leave anyone out of his election, he has elected all people. The Jews were chosen through the forefathers, everyone else was chosen in Christ.

    • @TheRomans9Guy
      @TheRomans9Guy Місяць тому

      @@jeffreybomba Universalism is the idea that all people will be saved and receive eternal life. I don’t believe Universalism is correct. In many places in the NT, Jesus or the disciples are correcting Jewish errors. One of the Jewish errors was that they believed and taught that when God chose the Jews as his people, it meant that he hated all non-Jews, and cast them out of his kingdom. When people objected to them, ‘you think God created all mankind but loves only the Jews? He hates all other people?’ They replied ‘yes!’ This was categorically wrong.
      But how would you correct it? The OT clearly shows that God chose/elected the Jews. Jesus, and later his disciples, corrected that by saying, yes, God chose the Jews, first, but he chose everyone else, second/also. No one is not chosen. He chose the Jews through Abraham Isaac and Jacob, but he chose everyone else through Christ. All people are loved by God.
      What does this choosing mean? It means he loves all of us and has paved a path to salvation for all of us. Now, anyone, not just Jews, who surrender to God and have faith, to them he will grant eternal life. See Rom 5:18, 11:32, Matthew 22…

      @TheRomans9Guy Місяць тому

      @@suganemmenaul Stop sinning against the Lord and teaching falsely. The “us” in Ephesians 1:1-11 means us-Gentiles, until Paul clearly indicates the change in verse 12.
      And Paul’s message IS that all are chosen. Coming in to Ephesians 1 you need to know that the world has believed up until Jesus came that God chose the Jews only. In verse 11 Paul says God ALSO chose us Gentiles. Then in Ephesians 2 he goes on to be very clear that before, it was thought that the Jews and Gentiles were separated by God, but now it has been made clear that God has made ONE HUMANITY out of the two. Notice he doesn’t say one church out of the two. This is key.
      In verse 2:19 he reiterates clearly that the Gentiles and Jews are all God’s people, i.e. ALL are chosen. And he further goes on in 3:6 to say the same thing. That the Jews are not the only heirs/children of God, the Gentiles are also heirs/children of God.
      You can deny it if you want to, but this is clearly the teaching of the NT.

    It is a very good question of Dr. Flowers “who is us”!
    When one writes an epistle, one does not write to “us”, but to “you”.
    Worth not making any assumptions and instead checking out how the text itself defines explicitly these two groups and who they are (the text does indeed).
    Ephesians make that distinction - starting from the group “us” in Eph 1:3-12, and defining that group of “us” in verse 12, then introducing group “you” in verse 13, continuing with that group also at the beginning of chapter 2, then mentioning “we all”, in verse 3, then almost every second verse from “you” to “us”;
    The difference of “us” and “you” become very explicit in the second part of chapter 2; even later Paul makes a point how both became one new man from BOTH;
    Paul addresses only “you” in vs 2:11, describe the state of you and how Christ proclaim peace to you who are far, and then “us BOTH” uniting in one new man. The you and us are still identifiable but are being part of the new identity.
    This fits into the whole narrative of first three chapter, how God chooses in Christ group “us”, reveal to them the mystery of summing up or recapitulating everything in Christ, and how these two groups in Christ become one new man. The group “you” as a result is not anymore strangers, but fellow citizens,
    is built on the same foundation of apostles and prophets, grow into the same building.
    The pattern of the narrative looks similar to that of the olive tree of Roman’s 11 of gentiles being grafted into the olive tree.
    The uniting of “us” and “you”, ie jews and gentiles becomes part of the large master plan of recapitulating all things in heaven and earth, or partial fulfillement of it.
    Pronouns matter.

    Imagine 2 groups of people standing around.
    Paul's side are believers, then the other side are non believers.
    A line was drawn in the sand and we have Paul and all the believers standing with him telling the other side(non believers) "God chose US in Christ before the foundation of the world. He didn't choose you guys."

    What about the view that the "us" and "we" in verses 1-12 refers only to Paul and the apostles and prophets? Verse 12 is explicit: "In order that we, who were the *first* (i.e. not the Ephesians, it's Paul and the apostles and prophets) to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory." Then in v. 13 Paul writes "and you also..." where he begins referring to the Ephesians. In v. 9 where Paul writes "He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure..." the "us" there definitely seems to refer to the apostles and prophets, as
    Paul says explicitly 2 chapters later in 3:4-6 that the mystery of Christ has been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. The mystery is that the Gentiles are heirs along with Israel, i.e. there is no more dividing wall, no hostility, there is total unity (Ephesians 1:10). Read Ephesians 1 as a foreshadowing of all the discussion to come about the dividing wall between Jew and Gentile being broken down, and it makes perfect sense.

    Am I saved
    Can I lose MY salvation
    All Calvinists though they dispute it are
    really only concerned about themselves
    The Gospel is about Jesus
    John 14:6
    "I" have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer "I" who live, but CHRIST who lives in me
    The life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the SON OF GOD, who loved me and gave HIMSELF for me.

    Από καταβολής κόσμου. The same phrase is use to talk about prophets killed in Luke 11. Unless we are willing to say Abel was killed before the foundation of the world and not when the foundation of the world or at the foundation of the world, we can't say we were elected before we were even born. The same phrase also talks about Jesus being killed since the foundation of the or from the foundation of the world in Revelation. That means the gospel being preached right there also at the foundation of the world in Genesis 3.

    Very interesting conversation. Even though Paul is writing to believers in Ephesus, his message does not exclude believers in Corinth, and in my opinion, does not exclude those who are children (offspring, genos) of God and who live and move and have their being in Him, but have not yet believed.
    In the end we know that every tongue will confess Jesus Christ as Lord to the glory of the Father. Therefore they too were chosen in Christ before time.
    I understand that this is referred to by many as universalism but if God truly is love (a noun) and not like Zeus or Baal, and His will is for all His offspring to be saved, then nothing short of that is acceptable for our omnipotent and omniscient Father.
    I think interpreting scripture all comes down to our perception of who Father, Son, and Spirit are, and how they operate.
    The Zeus like god sends 80 to 90% or more of his children to hell, while the loving Father saves all His.
    Both can be proof texted from scripture but only one is consistent with love and the life and ministry of Jesus and how He presented the Father.
