A Glacier Eventually Farts is a song that brings to mind a certain eldritch horror in my mind. I use it as inspiration for a version of Hell in one of my favorite fantasy settings. It’s brutal, but in its own flow of constant conflict.

Your instinct at the end of Terra Pluviam is so incredibly spot-on! The little synth melody right at the end is a direct reference to a track from a game called The Dig, a sci-fi adventure game from 1995. Chris speaks to this in his album commentary video, he says that it was a very influential soundtrack to him and he wanted to pay homage to it in some way, so for this he took the opening track "Mission to the Asteroid" and just rearranged it to fit the sound of Risk of Rain.
I wish to see you react to more of Risk of Rain 2 music, all of the songs are amazing and every one gives you perfect sense of whats going on in the game
I remember your comment from your previous video about enjoying having the situation of the song played put for you by people who've gone through the game, and I will try. The song plays during the final boss fight of the main game, Mithrix. A battle at the top of an abstract spire of the moon of the planet you'vr been fighting through to survive. The two heavier parts of the song, switching between prog rock and the more stretched out "half times" you described are phase 1 and phase 3, where Mithrix is taking you head on, once by himself, and then with his creations of stone and fire coming down from the sky to support their creator.. The middle section of the song where everything becomes muffled for a moment before resuming, sounding almost seperate from the rest of the song, and that is because it carries hints his Brother's theme, the final boss of the first risk of rain. And this chooses to play during the "add" phase, the second phase of the fight where Mithrix takes a break while you fight a spawn wave of his constructs before phase 3 comes. And the end of the song, where it becomes quiet, almost pathetic, the sound trudging along. This plays during the last stand of Mithrix, beaten, weakened to the point he can no longer fight you with his hammer, no long do so much as run, only walk. He creates a vortex, absorbing the items that gave you the power to bring him this low, and he begins to walk at you, raising his undamaged left arm to fire projectiles at you, only using his injured right to punch the ground, creating a cascade of energy balls that roll across the floor, which at this point drains his broken body to the extent it actually damages him. But as he is, he'd pulled out his trump card on us too late, and for as much as he taunts us for being weak without our items, he is too weak now to win even with the power they provide, and falls by our hand.
I think you'd love the songs from the Survivors of the Void DLC. It contains two of my favourite tracks in the whole game -- The Face of the Deep and Once in a Lullaby. Worth checking out!
Chris is just insane for making such good songs for a game where after the 6 stage you cant even hear anything due to how much noise all that is happening produces, if you ever react to more of his work please consider giving once in a lullaby or any of the DLC tracks a chance. They're awesome.
when recomending risk of rain 2 soundtracks, i think "Who can fathom the soundless depths" is a must listen to, its my favorite track and "Once in a lullaby" is also a must hear.
Chis chistodoulou is a master of setting the tone in these games. I get goosebumps listening to some of these songs. He was actually my most listened artist this last year 😂
What I love so much of this entire soundtrack is that it is also self referential, it makes you recall the earlier levels when you hear a sequence of notes in the later stages which evokes this feeling of accomplishment of how far you have come.
I remember liking the music the in the previous video you did on this but in this video I can't help but be even more impressed! this composer seems to have a good handle on both electronic music and live samples and knows how to mix them really well! I'm going to have to check him out as well! so much good music so little time! I thank you once again for putting another good artist and his work on my radar!
loved your solos in this video- first & last especially. i found ror2 through its music before i ever saw any gameplay or anything of the like, so i love seeing a lot of new people watching these videos, finding out about chris christoudolou's work! keep these up ig or sumn idk
The sequel I’ve been waiting for! Risk of Rain 2 OST is SO good, super happy that you revisited it after half of a year! Does this mean we can expect to see the rest on your channel soon? Happy New Years by the way, keep up the great work!
I really really hope you check out Risk of Rain 1/Returns OST (same ost but Returns has 4 extra songs) because there are a LOT of leitmotifs shared between tracks and they add so much to their vibes "You're Gonna Need A Bigger Ukelele" takes melodies from "Double Fucking Rainbow" (Yes, actual name) due to the connection between the two bosses, and both being the Final Boss theme Also, hope you eventually get to the Survivors of the Void DLC soundtrack, because Chris Christodoulou manages to go *even harder* in the OST for that than he did with the base game's OST ALSO also, to add on a little more. Really love your note about how YGNABU has a melancholy feel to it, since that's exactly what it's going for (as well as most of the OST to be honest.) This track in particular plays when fighting the main final boss, Mithrix, who is the brother to Providence. Your notes about the track also being "sturdy" and "highly order/freely flowing" also fit quite well. Mithrix's entire shtick is order, he creates things for mechanical purpose, neglecting to give them soul as that brings chaos into their purpose. His brother, Providence, however, loved life, and didn't care much for order. Eventually, they get into a dispute, and Provi banishes Mithrix to the moon, where he is trapped with nothing but moon rock, ala his title "King of Nothing". This is the melancholy vibe of his track. He has been sent away, rejected by his brother, and now, all he can do is make lifeless lunar chimeras in an attempt to create an army, building up his sorrow and rage to hopefully enact revenge on his brother. I can't describe it all well-enough in a single comment, but if you wanna learn a bit more about it, the video titled "The Tragic Lore of Risk of Rain" by Astro is a great video that looks over the lore of the game, and may give a lot more insight into the vibes of the music I could talk so so much about this game but I'm gonna end up writing a massive comment if I try and do that, but one more "little" note The speech in A Glacier Eventually Farts is (obviously) not heard in-game, but it's taken from the 1982 documentary "Burden of Dreams" and is narrated by Werner Herzog. The track plays in the Void Fields, which is intended to be an ocean-like environment in a dark void, and the whole area is covered in a toxic fog, except for little vent cells that you have to open up to clear the fog. The narration is seemingly meant to represent the toxic and hateful environment of the Void in the Risk of Rain universe, and how the Void Reavers act as essentially space police to capture and secure beings of anomalous or intense power Okay ONE last edit! I am so sorry for the massive comment I just love this game so much and have So Many thoughts Your note about how Terra Pluviam sounds like someone screaming/wailing is PERFECT for one of the two stages it plays in, the Abyssal Depths, a very hellish stage that's the home of the Imps and is a very ruthless environment. The log for the Abyssal Depths is even just an audio transcript of a team landing there, and then panicking due to just how hostile of an environment it is. I'm honestly amazed at just how good you are at getting these vibes from the music, though I suppose that's partially thanks to Chris's masterful composing as well. Absolutely love this series so so much because of that
God I love the f*cking super shocked look on his face everytime there's a switch up, it's genuinely hilarious and reflects how all of us feel when we take time to listen to these songs outside of their game context
Wow, I've been a big fan if this OST for so long, but your videos makes me discover new things about these pieces. For real, I think it's the first time I've heard "A Glacier Eventually Farts" at 100% volume, I never suspected how much details this track has (for instance the dissonant repetition of the main progression far in the right ear) Thanks for making these reactions videos I love it !
i suggest listening to basically entire layer 7 soundtrack from ultrakill can be found on hakita's channel (7-1 to 7-4) certainly worth it even if off-camera
If you haven't already, you should listen to some of the DLC tracks. More specific, "They might as well be dead" and "Diviner of the deep". Mainly because the first one is the greatest song in the game, and the second is really interesting and different. EDIT: It's "Face of the deep", not "Diviner of the deep"
This is genuinely my favourite game. And a huge part of that is the soundtrack. I wish some of these songs could show up a bit more often in the game, however I listen to this soundtrack all the time
Love your reactions! If you are going to react to Risk of Rain 2 ever again, you should definitely listen to The Face of the Deep, absolute banger of a track!
The thing I love the most about Risk of Rain 2s soundtrack is that it matches the game perfectly. Displaying foreign and alien like sounds in the music, sci-fi type stuff
A Glacier Eventually Farts has gotta be one of the best ambient tracks (imo) in Risk of Rain 2. Really like its slow buildup and overall vibe. Had the same first reaction to that name, though. "...What?"
the boss music (the first track in this video) fits so well for mythrix with who and what he is, a god who's forsaken his brother for the sake of power and control
The melancholic feelings presented by you're gonna need a bigger ukelele is fitting as its played during the final boss fight against a rather depressing character, as in their story is sad and also very interesting if you look into it
The contrast between the rock solid and freely flowing in the song is reminiscent of the dynamic between the bosses of the first and second game who are brothers
I beg of you down to the core of the earth, PLEASE listen to Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ, part I. Its from Risk of Rain 2's new DLC boss and its genuinely one of the greatest things I've ever heard in a video game
risk of rain is a game i played when i was ten and i liked it. And later then i realised how insane the game was. it became the reason i'm giving my best to learn how to code at 15 with my friend. Can't wait to grow up and make great indie game. I'll give my best dw.
The speech during "A Glacier Eventually Farts" is from Werner Herzog, talking about the making of Fitzcarraldo. Also, the track plays (notably, without the speech) in an area known as the "Void Fields", where a certain group of enemies come from/trap things
I watch a lot of analysis about ROR 2 soundtracks, but this one is very thorough in music theory, I love it. "You will need a bigger Ukulele" title is just awesome, Ukulele is one of the "weapons" in the game, and one of the best and one of the icons of the game. This song is the theme for the final boss-fight in ROR2, against a dude with a huge hammer that you'll think "huge hammer, therefore slow". He is not slow, repeat, not slow. Yeah you're going to need a bigger Ukulele A glacier eventually farts is so cool, I love the area it plays in too, kinda relaxing and meditative. When you said Rondeau I remembered "Rondeau des Fleures and Rapieres" from Genshin Impact
You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele perfectly portrays the final boss in the game. The heavy parts being the ones where you fight him directly, the slow part when he spawns his minions to battle with you, then the heavy part again where he is even stronger and spawning enemies mid fight, very fast paced battle and many stuff happening with the introduction of new attacks when he tried fighting you again... and then the last slow part, where he steals your items and tries to defeat you while being weakened and slow, all while he insults the player in the game chat. "VERMIN. WHERE IS YOUR INFLUENCE. BREAK BENEATH ME. WEAK. WITHOUT YOUR BAUBLES AND TRINKETS." Amazing OST, i love this game.
For terra pluviam your train analogy is pretty accurate to the lore behind the song, being there is this thing called tar which is esentially a liquid parasite that destroys planets. So it'd be the train, and the changing locations would be the planets it destroys
its actually pretty cool how he just about perfectly described the mithrax fight just from the music alone, goes to show just how good of a job it does.
Great to see more Risk of Rain reactions. I would also love to see you take a look at the works of Arnaud Roy (FlybyNo). Particularly Endless Legend and Endless Space 2, they have fantastic soundtracks.
The first ambient metal part in You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele is actually a reference to a song from the first game called Double F&$king Rainbow. You should check it out! Another thing I found funny with You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele is that you mentioned the Jaws theme. I'm pretty sure it's a reference to "You're gonna need a bigger boat" lmao🎉
My way of listening to music is picking out the story behind them, especially a game ost. You being able to pick out and find the story behind a song is just amazing and helps me visualize the song as well! Could you react to some Mario galaxy songs at some point(especially melty molten galaxy)?
I hope you will listen to other soundtracks from risk of rain 2. Some that I like are 'Who can fathom the soundless depths' and 'They might as well be dead' . The new 'I should build the man a statue' is also such a nice soundtrack.
Chris Christodoulou makes you feel the game without even playing the game. The whole RoR2 ost is phenomenal.

Cannot wait for the Sax. 🎷🦀
@@OutHereCorbin absolutely!!! 🎷🦀
Chris is just insane for making such good songs for a game where after the 6 stage you cant even hear anything due to how much noise all that is happening produces, if you ever react to more of his work please consider giving once in a lullaby or any of the DLC tracks a chance. They're awesome.
I have the sound of all the effects and junk lowered and the music maxed out to solve this very issue.
when recomending risk of rain 2 soundtracks, i think "Who can fathom the soundless depths" is a must listen to, its my favorite track and "Once in a lullaby" is also a must hear.
*”You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Eukelele…* how big?”
Yes
REAL big...
...and his music was *electric*
The sequel I’ve been waiting for! Risk of Rain 2 OST is SO good, super happy that you revisited it after half of a year! Does this mean we can expect to see the rest on your channel soon? Happy New Years by the way, keep up the great work!
“Once in a Lullaby” is the best song on the soundtrack. Fight me
ill fight you, its joint, and i listened to that song for 3 days repeat
ROR2 music gives me goosebumps--it takes you right back to those alien worlds--surviving for your life.
You should listen to the dlc ones too ! they might as well be dead and once in a lullaby are so good
Im still waiting for the Time he reacts to Coalescence from the first game
I really really hope you check out Risk of Rain 1/Returns OST (same ost but Returns has 4 extra songs) because there are a LOT of leitmotifs shared between tracks and they add so much to their vibes
"You're Gonna Need A Bigger Ukelele" takes melodies from "Double Fucking Rainbow" (Yes, actual name) due to the connection between the two bosses, and both being the Final Boss theme
Also, hope you eventually get to the Survivors of the Void DLC soundtrack, because Chris Christodoulou manages to go *even harder* in the OST for that than he did with the base game's OST
ALSO also, to add on a little more.
I can't describe it all well-enough in a single comment, but if you wanna learn a bit more about it, the video titled "The Tragic Lore of Risk of Rain" by Astro is a great video that looks over the lore of the game, and may give a lot more insight into the vibes of the music
I could talk so so much about this game but I'm gonna end up writing a massive comment if I try and do that, but one more "little" note
The speech in A Glacier Eventually Farts is (obviously) not heard in-game, but it's taken from the 1982 documentary "Burden of Dreams" and is narrated by Werner Herzog. The track plays in the Void Fields, which is intended to be an ocean-like environment in a dark void, and the whole area is covered in a toxic fog, except for little vent cells that you have to open up to clear the fog. The narration is seemingly meant to represent the toxic and hateful environment of the Void in the Risk of Rain universe, and how the Void Reavers act as essentially space police to capture and secure beings of anomalous or intense power
Okay ONE last edit! I am so sorry for the massive comment I just love this game so much and have So Many thoughts
Your note about how Terra Pluviam sounds like someone screaming/wailing is PERFECT for one of the two stages it plays in, the Abyssal Depths, a very hellish stage that's the home of the Imps and is a very ruthless environment. The log for the Abyssal Depths is even just an audio transcript of a team landing there, and then panicking due to just how hostile of an environment it is. I'm honestly amazed at just how good you are at getting these vibes from the music, though I suppose that's partially thanks to Chris's masterful composing as well. Absolutely love this series so so much because of that
a glacier eventually farts id say is more related to providence and petrichor, however it has nothing to do with the story
Dude I just got into risk of rain recently and seeing you discover it with me is amazing
Okay, can I just say that the violin is an incredible addition to the second song and just elevates it to a such a different level oh my god!
Hey SPG, The violence layer has come out to Ultrakill. Would love to see you revisit Ultrakill ost again
The risk of rain 1/2/returns discography is my go to homework music
Makes sense.
@@LionmightOfficialone guy i saw had rain formerly known as purple as their number 1 song on spotify recap at 1 month or 2 hours a day
Video game music is simply top tier.
For real, I think it's the first time I've heard "A Glacier Eventually Farts" at 100% volume, I never suspected how much details this track has (for instance the dissonant repetition of the main progression far in the right ear)
Thanks for making these reactions videos I love it !
13:00 When I’m listening to an OST and get hit with that surprise Werner Herzog
i suggest listening to basically entire layer 7 soundtrack from ultrakill
can be found on hakita's channel (7-1 to 7-4)
certainly worth it even if off-camera
Once in a Lullaby, Koppen AF, The Face of the Deep. All must listens.
Please check out the music Chris made for the "survivor's of the void" DLC. Most of them are amazing
my lord. i savor every time i go to the void and hear it's ost, often times just sitting in one of the bubbles listening to it for a bit.
100%
Woo more ROR2! Once again gotta recommend the song “Antarctic Oscillation” and “The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky”
One of my personal favorites from ror2 music is "Having Fallen, It Was Blood". Definitely recommend to listen, if not for new video then by yourself.
@@person803id say the difference between your ginna need a bugger ukulele and double fucking rainbow works better
Amazing video, love your reactions
I have never seen or heard from an electric violin before; it makes some beautifully haunting melodies
The speech during "A Glacier Eventually Farts" is from Werner Herzog, talking about the making of Fitzcarraldo. Also, the track plays (notably, without the speech) in an area known as the "Void Fields", where a certain group of enemies come from/trap things
You should definitely listen to the DEADBOLT soundtrack, it’s made by the same guy Chris Christodolou, and it’s phenomenal.
+Gospels of the flood!
SPIRITFARER PLEASE
The game is beautiful and the music keeps it in the realm of Fantastic and heartfelt beauty
Yeah you're going to need a bigger Ukulele
A glacier eventually farts is so cool, I love the area it plays in too, kinda relaxing and meditative.
WEAK. WITHOUT YOUR BAUBLES AND TRINKETS."
Amazing OST, i love this game.
For terra pluviam your train analogy is pretty accurate to the lore behind the song, being there is this thing called tar which is esentially a liquid parasite that destroys planets. So it'd be the train, and the changing locations would be the planets it destroys
I absolutely love that little horror part you added to ukulele
just wish listed this game on steam to buy in the near future just from this soundtrack alone
the game is awesome too!
He perfectly mixes something that can be felt as though the planet is both a marvelous beauty to experience or a terrifying reality with no equal
Take a listen to Deadbolt! Ashes to ashes to ashes, Break of Dawn then Werner und Klaus.
8:54 wow, you just described the lore of the game based of of the final boss theme alone.
17:42
Wow…. This is beautiful….
You should definitely check out the Survivors of the Void DLC soundtrack for Risk of Rain 2. It's just as good if not even better
Finally more risk of rain one of my favorite sound tracks in gaming history. I NEED MORE RISK OF RAIN!
its actually pretty cool how he just about perfectly described the mithrax fight just from the music alone, goes to show just how good of a job it does.
Check out the new dlc album, its something else,.. my favorite is "Yane No Mori",.. it gives me the chill vibe of "The Rain Formerly Known as Purple"
I recomand "THE CITY MUST SURVIVE" from frostpunk 2. A great soundtrack from a game that have one of the best immersion.
The addition of your electric violin with the filter on it gave the track an action-horror vibe, loved that.
I think Terra Pluviam was probably my favourite, but Glacier gets some extra points for the title alone, if nothing else.
