Repetition is key. If you are new barber speed will come when you understand technique and really understand how to blend hair. Once you repeat a system that works for you over a long period of time you naturally get faster and understand more. Eventually you get to a point where it doesnt matter what system you use.
Hey Sean, love your videos man. You are a real help for me, and other in this community. Upcoming 14 year old barber and you are the main reason i know 90% of the things I know. Thank you for your service and a start to a new journey.
took a step back from this barbering videos due to working a whole lot but man am i glad to be back, love all the knowledge and tips you continue to share. Cant wait to see what else you have in storage!
I have a production background. Sounds about the same. I always made every move count. If I put something down, I pick something up. I like the organization. It will make all the movements fluidic.
I only use 2guards to do my skin fades unless they want a number on top. Cuts my time in half and looks the same as if i used all guards. I do a lot of fast fade competitions but when im in the shop because of learning efficiency techniques i can do quality fades in 15-20minutes without rushing at all
@@dan1x10 No i either use the #1 and #2 only or i use .5 and 1.5. Depends the type of fade they getting and hair texture but 90% of the time i just use #1 and #2. I mostly use .5 and 1.5 for kids cause they tend to move a lot and i dont want to mess up by accident
Do u skip guards? I need to figure out where I can speed up. I get so ocd it causes me to take longer than every barber in the shop. I end up with great cuts but less cuts = less money
Great video!! I’m going to try and move my chair better and know where my stuff is. I was looking for my half guard for like 5 minutes a couple cuts ago and that really got on my nerves. I said never again, I need to be organized. Thanks for the tips
Alot of my customers don't particularly like having the chair face away from the station , they find it hard engaging when not facing the mirror! Me personally I prefer your method! Makes it so much easier then running around the chair Continuously . It must be a US thing cos here in the UK the chairs face the mirror
Okay so I was rocking the corded seniors, and 2 cordless magic clips for the longest time and I just copped 2 of these gold versions, and let me tell you something. This is the fastest I have ever cut hair with my best quality I'd say. I'm genuinely impressed but it does make me wonder "how much" better these other brands are like BabyLiss and Gamma/SC, because these Gold Magic Clips impressed the hell outta me. I'm not a licensed barber, but I've been cutting hair since Grade 10 in high school. Oh and funny story, I sent my resume to a local barbershop, and I did include the fact that im not licensed and that I had my doubts and worries because of simple things like, fear of new clients, as in, "Would I be ablee to give them what they want?" type of feeling but, the owner of the shop seemed like they were insisting that I come for an interview anyway in person. Maybe they liked my energy because I told them that, "If the lack of having a license changes anything, I'm willing to simply volunteer and or just sit and watch to learn the flow." Maybe they liked how eager I am? I am a Uni student in the Faculty of Education, Majoring in English and Minoring in Psychology. My dream is to teach English in Japan and maybe own a barbershop one day.
@Seancutshair thanks for the reply man. I just need ONE MORE answer because I feel like this next question will absolutely determine what I fking do with my life. Take as long as you need to see this and reply 😭 but Some quick context. I have very supportive parents and im so lucky, but i feel like, although becoming a teacher is my dream along with barbering, it seems as though becoming a teacher became my "moms dream" as well and of course I see it as simply her wanting the best for me and all, and along with the achievement of graduating, but I just feel like she doesnt really see the passion I have for barbering. And so now, what I need help with is basically just coming to a decision. I feel like I just lack the confidence in my abilities and if you wanted to see pictures just let me know, maybe you could offer up some tips, open to all kinds of criticisms lol but anyway, if the owner of the shop ends up thinking im good enough, should I take the job?!?! I mean I need to save up for tuition too anyway and for getting license after Uni. So instead of getting a different full time job, should I just believe in myself and take the risk? At the moment, I only have about 20 regular clients and I charge $20 full service. So more or less 400 a month but remember, this was a hobby I started in high school because i didn't want to be broke lol. Man i dont know. People say to take risks when young but its definitely scary when you dont know if the outcome will be what you wanted? I dont know.
@@Seancutshair Bossio back in 2015 was who taught me through this journey and then I recently found passion for barbering again and your videos have been the best. Forever grateful for You and Bossio. Thanks for all that yall do fr.
Great tips to work efficiently I try explaining people about organizing they just don’t get it. One other thing I learn look at the clock after wards you won’t need to see it once you pick up
Does the down fading technique work on thicker textures like wavy, curly, and coiled hair? Today I tried to do an expanded low fade, it was my first time cutting wavy hair (well really any hair that’s not straight) and I just got hit with a wave of depression because of how many mistakes I made that my teacher had to correct, the low fade ended up becoming a High-Mid fade with a blended bald spot that I made and some jagged design that I SOME how made with my clipper
Hey brodie, could you drop a link for the guard tray you have, looks like a must have since I’m always throwing my guards everywhere. Please and thank you
I start barber school next month and the question I have is when blending do I knock out lines with the lever open to closed or just go at it with a closed lever? Also, clipper work looks harder than fades especially when breaking it into sections, is that true? I’m super nervous and do not want to fail
It really depends on the haircut. If it’s an easy one it takes me about 40 mins. If it’s a skin fade, scissor cut on top, line up and beard trim it takes about an hour.
Two things I would like to add: • Learn to clipper over comb. Anything over a #2 guard I clipper over comb. I've noticed that using clipper over comb to blend a #2 into longer hair has saved me more time than reverse fading from a #5,#4 and #3 into that #2 guard. • Maintain sharp blades. Usually, for myself, I try to replace the blades every 2-3 months in order to spend less time going over the same spot because of the dull blades not cutting well. Especially for the foil shavers. When I feel too much resistance on the shaver when trying to skin a bald fade it's usually time to replace. You definitely made some great points on your video. Just wanted to add to that in order to help any struggling barbers or long time barbers like myself who can still learn new things.

For me, big speedup was learn and start using cliper over comb :)
It can definitely speed up some cuts, I try not to use it too much though it can ruin some more technical haircuts
Cutting is a fun hobby. Saves money keeps me and my boys sharp, thanks for the content.
Nice!
The tip that stood out the most is cutting the same hair multiple times
I used to be bad about it!

Speed + Quality = Efficiency
Absolutely!

Definitely can be done. Takes some years to be able to skip and not leave lines though. I’m teaching for beginners to be able to follow and cut
The chair tip is huge it saves so much time! Plus your legs don’t get as tired if your cutting all day. Where’s the green hair?

Clients don’t like to be turned away from mirror and I can see my work on the front better having them facing mirror

Hey Sean. Do you have any tips on shear work? When should I point cut versus when should I use texturing/thinning shears?
Point cutting is to add texture. Thinning shears should be used to remove weight.
How often do you recommend replacing blades for both clippers and trimmers?
I don’t replace blades often but I get new tools quite a bit. Maybe 9 months to a year. I think they last quite a while

Sir do you prefer YS park 336 in carbon? is it because it is a stiffer comb or the other colors of the 336 are as good in your opinion ?
The carbon is harder to break that’s why I use it
@@Seancutshair why 336?
So as far as your personal set up, everything you use is babyliss?
Currently yes! I’ve used a little bit of everything over the years
How do I find a system that works for me?
Just have to watch different people and try different techniques until one feels most comfortable
