One thing that helps me a lot when cutting the top is to use a mohawk section down the middle of the hair and then use that as a traveling guideline for the left and right side
That’s a good technique!
Great video Sean! Very informative. Much appreciated
Thank you!
I appreciate the heads up on previous videos and this one about the fresh shears got my makai 7" swivels last week. I love them great quality cut really clean. Thanks again bro.
Dope! Glad you’re enjoying them!
Been in the game 18 years and I still struggle with shear cutting. I kinda fake it til I make it but I must be doing something right because I haven't had any complaints. But being honest with myself I know I need to know what I'm doing. Said all that to say your video was awesome and helped me out tremendously. You break it down so smooth and you're an easy listen unlike other UA-camrs who are hella annoying. Keep up the great work!
That’s what’s up glad it helped!
This is my favorite video that you’ve put out so far. Scissor over finger/ scissor over comb is an area I want to perfect as a barber. I want to be well rounded when cutting different types of hair. Starting with the basics. Thank you so much for breaking it down starting from the basics 💯🙏🏽 I’m definitely going to be watching this video numerous of times until I get it down packed
You’re welcome!
This Video is a BANGER!!!!!!
Awesome teaching appreciation your knowledge on shear cutting!! 🙏🏼
Thank you 🙏🏼
As an experienced barber I still watch several instructional videos every day, not to necessarily learn something new but, mostly to stay fresh and to look for different techniques or ways of setting up your cutting strategy. There’s always potential for improvement and as an incredible nerd I want to know or, at least, touch upon everything that is hair. Just seeing how someone experienced in being busy and just knocking it out of the park does certain little thing like the pinky and ring finger support thing or scissor flip helps solidify or support something already put in place. Hearing and seeing it being pointed out as an advantage when it’s already something I’m doing does point to being on a solid path.
With my rambling now concluded, I salute you Sean. Straight to the point, informative and useful.
Appreciate you watching!!!
Thanks for sharing. Awesome video and great information and step by step tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
I appreciate the detailed information!!!

Good video Sean, very informative. I've never mastered holding the scissors out of the way with the pinky. Might try it today.
Do it for one day and it will become second nature
Absolute legend so helpful bro
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
You always present your skills at a very easy level. Appreciate you. I have learned so much from you that I feel I owe you my pay check.
Send it over 🤣

I love watching your videos cause the hair cuts you do I get at sports clips and they want there hair right so thank so much
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great tutorial not many shear tutorials out there for barbers on UA-cam. Just want to add Keeping constant even tension when holding each section before cutting is key.
💯💯💯

Wow this super helpful thanks ! So no vertical sectioning for the point cut hair cut ?
This was amazing
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Super helpful
Glad to hear!
Thanks a lot for the info!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I bought some Sharonds per your recommendation. I'm not a barber, but I do cut my own hair. Thank you, they work for me.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
im starting my barber journey this relly helps thank you
Glad to hear it!
Glad to hear it!
Great video bro
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Your best video ever
Thank you!
Your absolutely right Sean 😂Of course after so long of doing hair you don’t cut as often passed the second knuckle… I have so many scars 😂 😂 I need to get a second pair of shears(the ones I own as of now are 5.5” , it’s going to take some getting used to(6”-6.5”) but it’ll work out.Sean thank you for taking the time to show us!
I still cut myself from time to time! I’d do a 6.5 or 7!
learned a lot today about sheer technique… I dig spot cutting
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
you with the illuzien cape flipped to the white on shows how dedicated you are to these videos bro 😂😂 , we really appreciate it dat frfr 💯
🤣🤣🤣
Once again, thank you so much! Can you drop an undercut scissor work guide? I think the sectioning and scissor work on an undercut makes a huge difference, and I want to improve on them
If I end up cutting one I’ll try to!
Thank you! 💕
Welcome!
Great video...
Thank you!
Thanks bro 🔥🔥🔥
Welcome!
I just ordered fresh shears today was looking for new shears and I went back to watch your review after watching I had to buy one
Dope you’ll love them!
You won't regret it! I thought I was going to have break the bank to get some new shears but I bought my first pair of Fresh shears about 1 1/2 months ago and my second pair about 3 weeks ago and they're great
@@Zombub glad to hear that yeah I was looking into sharkfins and hanzos but I didn’t want to drop that much on a pair of shears and most people have said the hanzos are over rated so wanted to find something a little cheaper but gets the job done glad to hear this!
Loved this I struggle with straight hair cuts and shear work . My one suggestion is show in dep your finger position when u scoop sections . Other than that perfect video
Appreciate the feedback!
thanks for this great video bra
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Very helpful. FINALLY!! Lol. Also when are those hoodies coming back?? 🔥🔥
I don’t think they are! Waiting to come up with a new design
How do I get tickets to see you in Tampa? Love the great educational videos. Thanks so much
I’m not in Tampa, I’m in Kentucky. May do a class down there at some point. Just keep an eye out on here 👍🏻
Good good!! Teaching….
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Could you do a video explaining longer hair styles and how to connect them to the sides
I did a couple recently. Will do all the scissor work videos I can in the future!
Bro I appreciate the video and I definitely see the value. However, and I don't want you to take it like I think I could do it better or like I'm hating, but I believe it would have been a little more helpful if you had shown the end results of each cut so that we could have seen exactly why you used the techniques you used and the benefits thereof. I just wanna say that I am a fan of what you do and I continue to learn and grow because of the direction and guidance I get from you. I am grateful for all you do
Thank you
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
On the first haircut how do you connect the sides and back?
super helpful! how far back do you go? to the crown?
Yes to the length that lays on top. Any of the crown that goes down to the sides you handle with the sides
Can you make a in depth video of clipper over comb bro? Specifically on erasing that bulk line in straight hair
I will see what I can do. I really don’t do a lot of clipper over comb
wow what a great video! very clear and bonus cuts was very helpful. would this change at all if you plan to cut your own hair? switch hands or anything?
It would still operate the same just more difficult on yourself! 😝
@Seancutshair most definitely, is it normal for my fingers to gas out in the beginning or maybe my technique is bad, in terms of squeezing and holding hair before cutting?
Master Craftsmanship.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Would you recommend a 5.5" or 6" scissor for doing your own hair with these styles?
Hey brother I watch your content closely can you make a shear over comb blending video or do you already have one?
I don’t do much shear over comb but if I can I’ll try and record something
This guy is legit
🫱🏻🫲🏽🫱🏻🫲🏽🫱🏻🫲🏽
is the extended version gonna be on the academy?
No this is it for now. I can do more scissor work on the academy though
needed this ! i’m a 17 year old starting barber , one day you should rate my set up
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Nice
Appreciate it!
What barber school did you go to , im in Kentucky not sure what route to take and if there is anymore classes or anything to help me learn
I went in bowling green but that schools is closed
at 3:00 mins another reason to only go to the second knuckle when using Scissor over finger is because there is full tension to that point where as the closer you get to the big knuckles on your hand the more the cut will be uneven.
💯💯💯
Hey Sean what’s your opinion about flat top? For short hair
Haven’t done a flat top since barber school
Can you do a cut for an older thinning hair cut? Please using your scissor talent.
If I get a client I will 👌🏻
You should use bright colored gloves for contrast
I just don’t wear gloves anymore
For the first, finger length haircut, would that be the same outcome as if you ran a longer guard on a clipper?
Somewhat but even an 8 guard seems pretty dang short
omg. as a cosmetologist, I just don't get mens cutting but this I get!
Good!
Wowwww!👍🥰😎
😬😬😬
You also don't go past second knuckle so you don't lose tension
💯💯💯
Do you do the fade first then shear work?
Depends. Sometimes I do the top first
You also lose tension past the second knuckle, so your guidelines begin to lose that straightness because you’re not gripping the hair as tightly
Btw a great idea for a future video should be about sectioning hair
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Can you do a video with a traveling guide?
I got a good one coming that shows it well!
Clipper Tutorial for Top(Crown) Hair.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
@@Seancutshair one minute barber already made a video on this topic you can record a reaction video and share your Insite and expertise. This will help a lot.
Oh man i have always trouble here from germany to order something i wanted to buy a couple fresh shears but i have to pay 90 euro for dispatch .. is there any other way to get this shears without having this costs? Greetings my Brother✊🏼
Yeah I’m not sure. I know they’re expanding to the UK that may cut down on shipping

🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
you gotta do more of these i need the help 😂
I’m gonna try to do a bunch more scissor videos in the future
Which ys park comb is that ?
336
@@Seancutshair thank you 🙏🏽 just ordered it
Que tijera usas?
Fresh shears. I have a few videos about them 👌🏻
In cosmetology you always palm your sheers. State Board "loves" it when you don't. (I'm studying for my exam to be reinstated after a career break.)
*loves to take points off your score.
Ouch. That dang state board

why u dont have the subcriber count like tomb45 or getbeamed or ESPECIALLY LIKE marty blends😂 i dont know.. 🤦♂🤣
🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
6:58 don’t u make it match the low points
Yes you take off the high points
I've been cutting for 20 years and still can't get it correct but im fundamentally pretty intelligent. What's wrong with me?
I don’t know! 😜 come take a 1 on 1 with me and we’ll figure it out!
@@Seancutshair I'll see if I can visit you up there sometime. Things are difficult now. Thanks for what you do.
Let’s not stab the mommas 😂😅
😂😂😂
I never see you doing scissors over comb honestly..
I don’t do much scissor over comb. Of course I can but I like using techniques that leave little room for error. I feel scissor over comb is one of the most “risky” techniques and can mess up a nice finished haircut
SHEARS ARE USED IN A GARDEN! SCISSORS are used in a barbers! Fact.
Actually the terminology just depends on where you live. US says shears, UK says scissors
