  • This video is going over the layout and differences of the Panasonic G85 and Gx85 cameras (Using the Gx85 for the walkthrough).
    This is to help those who have just purchased either cameras learn their way around the camera body. The more you know, the less you will feel intimidated with the available features and settings!
    If you have any questions I did not answer, please let me know in the comments below!
    CORRECTION: 23:46 HDR = High Dynamic Range! (Where the camera processes more detail in highlights/shadows) Sometimes my mouth is faster than my brain can process XS
    ALSO USB charging is not possible while using the camera, it needs to be off.

      @@joliebenedict It's an easy carry and that means I have it with me more often than when I had the Nikon DSLR. The controls are easy to use. I have often used my DSLR in Aperture priority mode and shifting to the Lumix hasn't really been a challenge for me. I am travelling to Germany in a week's time, visiting my cousins and hope to use this extensively. I am sure you will have fun with this.

    I’ve had everything from Pentax to Leica, etc and just got this camera recently out of curiosity for the M43 format. I have to say, even in 2024 this camera is an incredible value. The features that come in it is everything someone could want and no extra nonsense that you wouldn’t want. Only thing I’m finding weird is the lens release button since I’m used to it on the other side of the lens mount. Will just take some time to figure out I guess. Beginning photographer or a seasoned pro, this camera is truly something unique and fun. I put the lumix 20mm f1.7 ll lens on it and talk about a serious package you want to take everywhere with you.

    Very helpful, thanks! With this camera getting a little older, I was able to grab a used one with both stock lenses for a very nice price. It had all the features I wanted for a camera I can use when I don't want to carry around a big SLR, but want something more than my phone: interchangeable lenses, decent sensor size, tilting LCD, viewfinder, built in flash (with option to add an external one), and manual controls. I can't wait to play around with it!

    Nice video, Thanks! Just to clarify: Aperture priority means you set the aperture and the camera sets the rest; Shutter priority means you set shutter speed and the camera sets the rest. My dad had a Pentax from the early 70s that had S and A done entirely through analog circuitry.
    I, for one, like RAW - I can change colors at home.
    Once again, excellent beginners video! Thank you!
    Oh ... another secret most Lumix cameras have: if you look closely, you'll find a rubbery thing on the battery lid. That rubber thingy can be removed and a DC external power bank can be used with a special (available at around US$10) adapter.

    In case no one else told you, the "No Lens" option doesn't literally mean what it says. It's for when you put on a lens that can't talk to the camera. Like another manufacturer's lens, a third-party lens, a manual focus lens of some sort. The probably didn't have enough room to put up a full explanation. But, yeah, their wording is confusing, but what else could they have said that would fit the space?

    Thanks, I learned a lot. I'm sure someone has mentioned it already, but "shoot without a lens" is for manual lenses that do not connect with your camera electrically. I have the 7 Artisans fish eye on my camera now. When that is set up, it will ask you if you want to continue shooting with the 8 mm setting when you turn the camera on.

    4:3 uses the whole sensor - other proportions use less area. Use 4:3 and cut it later.
    Multi exposure is very useful - it takes 3 photos being one at the set exposure and two others below and above that point (how much above/bellow can be set by the user)

    'Shoot without lens' is mainly used when you're using something like a vintage lens on an adapter. Old lenses don't have the electronic contacts to tell the camera that you've connected a lens, so the camera thinks that you don't have one attached.

      If you go into the menu into your custom settings, and find sleep mode, you may be able to turn it off. Let me know if you are unable to find it and I can give you step by step instructions. Any downside to using live/constant preview? I find it very useful for a beginner photographer like me to make sure my shot looks the way i want it to, especially in Manual/Priority modes. • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  2 роки тому +4

      Great question! To achieve a nice blurry background with the kit lens can actually be pretty tricky. You really want to invest in a lens that has an aperture, or F number, 2.8 or lower. This stands for the physical opening in the lens that controls light intake and either a blurry background or sharpness throughout the image. The lower that number is, the blurrier the background is. Take a look at how aperture works in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/89zYdzs-doA/v-deo.html

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  3 роки тому

      Thank you for the kind comment, I am glad my videos can help you! When it comes to moon photography, you need a good zoom, something that provides between 200-600mm range. (On this camera, you will want the lens to range between 100 and 300, because the sensor will allow you to capture 2x the distance!) You will also want to use your P mode, set your metering to center (if you want the moon in the center of your photos, or spot if you want it off to the side of the frame), and focusing may be set to AFS or if it’s easier you can use manual focus as well by switching it to MF. These tips should definitely help you get a great moon shot!

      The flash is for photography only, not for video. If you would like to add light for video, you will need an LED light with hotshoe attatchment. Something like this: amzn.to/3cnG3Nc
      Hope this helps!

    Wow! Great! Would you please say something about the location of the sound entry to the camera, or mic hole? Where is it located?

      Yes, the built in Mic on this model is the 2 little holes on top of the camera in front of the hotshoe! Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hola! Quiero saber si hay manera de poder ver en la pantalla de la cámara. Como quedará la foto al momento de tomarla, es decir en la pantalla de la cámara lo veo nítido pero cuando tomo la foto me sale oscura o desenfocado , no guarda relación con lo que veía en la pantalla.

      Eso es muy extraño, ya que debería mostrarle automáticamente resultados precisos antes de tomar su foto. Intente restablecer su configuración en el menú debajo de la pestaña de llave inglesa y vea si eso ayuda. Además, asegúrese de que su sujeto no cambie mientras toma la foto, ya que a veces el movimiento puede cambiar el resultado.

    Shoot w/o lens: shut off when you attach lens adaptor for use of other lenses, e.g. Nikon

      Yes! Thank you for clarifying! I knew that in the back of my head but didnt hit me until after I posted. Thank you!

    shoot w/o lens is useful if you are using an old school slr lens that does not have auto functions.
    selecting quiet mode will turn off the mechanical shutter
    selecting 4K mode will also disable mechanical shutter
    if mechanical shutter mode is off then the flash will not work.
    just a few gotchas that I have learned the hard way.

    Hey Heather shutterbug how's my girl doing hey thanks for this wonderful platform you set on the Panasonic g85 I had the G7 and I like it a lot but the g85 seems special because of that waterproof seiling and I believe the stabilizer may be better but I never had trouble with mine and it takes beautiful pictures I'm a big fan of Chris Nichols and Jordan they do a lot of videos on cameras but thank you so much really enjoyed it you're my best friend

      The g85 definitely has a better build/stabilization than the G7 and is an excellent upgrade! Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!

    you can't charge the gx85 while its running. it gives you a message to turn it off before it starts charging. But you can buy a battery adapter that puts a cable out of the compartment and use it that way. There's even a hole built in for the cord to go through. You can also set your sleep timer for 2 mins and after 2 minutes of not using it, youll start charging right away.

      Yes! I did notice the charging while running after I posted the video, and put a correction in the description. It really could be fixed with a firmware upgrade and I have let my Panasonic rep know so hopefully in future cameras it will be a feature. Your ideas of the battery with the ac cord and also using the sleep timer are great as well until they do make this an option! Thank you for commenting!
