Just wanted to come back to this video a year later and say thank you!! You gave our old cameras new life and we have been using the VX2000 at my studio pretty consistently for projects using this method for the past year. You're awesome!!!!
Its been 8 months since I got my vx2000 and PowerPlay and I still cant thank you enough for saving me from having to deal with tapes and firewire recorders and all that kinda stuff!
I've been using this setup on my VX1000, thanks to you Also since it's recording in mono, I am using a simple RCA audio cable and it works perfectly fine
Ayoooo my XM2 is still running good off tapes after 2 years but this is going to come in very handy when it starts giving me grief. Many thanks for the video
great video man, this device is what we all needed. thanks for making then videos and finding out about this its such a life saver. also funny to randomly see myself in the video hahah :D
What do you do about the aspect ratio? When I try recording in SD 4:3, its stretches the image out to 16:9, and cuts off bits of top and bottom of frame.
@@crystalcatalog yes actually, I saw later he mentions if you put it in premiere and “interpret footage” as dvtape it will correctly auto resize the aspect ratio, I think also if you have video editing software, you can manually stretch the image vertically and horizontally as needed to mimic what you want. You can reference your preferred aspect ratio clip in the timeline, put the immersion clip over it, lower opacity, and stretch both ways til it accurately lines up with your preferred clip. Put back to full opacity and delete your references and your done. Hope that helps!
Hello! How do you get your GL2 to record without showing all of the settings that appear on the LCD? I can’t figure it out. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I got my powerplay but I've noticed a huge quality difference between tapes and the powerplay. I know that the RCA connection is not supposed to be as good looking but compared to videos like this showing it off mine looks pretty awful. If you have any tips lmk.
thank you for the video, how does this thing handle interlaced footage (i.e. can the footage be easily deinterlaced after capture and internal compression?) and what frame rate does it record in? i've read online it can capture up to 60fps, does it detect the frame rate of the input or does it capture at 60fps regardless? thanks!
need some tips cause i have been recording on my sd card it can playback the file after recording but when plugging the sd card into my computer all the files just become unreadable in the pc and even when placed back on the powerplay
I have a similar camera, and when I switch to camera mode, the LCD screen is visible, but when I switch to video mode, an error occurs. So I have a question. Does the Power Play FPV DVR do something like screen recording? If so, it should be possible to record videos even if you can only use the camera mode. Sorry for the poor English. I used a translation. Thank you for a very wonderful video.
I know this video is old, but at 4:37 I believe you discovered the "hack" that I accidentally discovered years ago with TRS connectors and that is if you are using a jack with a different number of rings than the plug you can get away with only plugging it in a certain distance, assuming everything else is in your favor on the two circuits.. Glad it works for you, but you probably just need a TRRRS, TRS, or a cable with the wires going to the right positions (of tip, ring, sleeve locations) to solve the problem. There would be several ways to fix it, really, including adaptors. While it still technically works using your spacer, you are probably missing stereo audio or a proper ground that introduces hum or something. Anyway, cheers.
@@easyymoneysniper Just figure out what you have on both sides and use the right connector. If it's a TRRRS jack, use a TRRRs plug, if it's RCA jack use a RCA plug. What people don't know when they are figuring this out is that there is TRRRS, TRRS, TRS and TS.
I just got the power play but i get this loud buzzing noise on clips, idk if it the wires they gave me are bad or if it’s the connection jacks. The audio was fine when i was using the clearclick so i don’t think it’s coming from the GL2
great video, you’re a life saver. quick question: the cable from the immersionrc i used broke recently. filming on a gl2, what kind of cord should i be looking to buy? thanks!
saw this a while ago already and wanted to buy the powerplay but unfortunately it was sold out (just like on every other website i was searching) and continued to be until now that it's saying discontinued on the website :(
If I buy a vx1000 and it has video defects will this be the right thing I need? Because I’m not filming from the camera because I press record on the power play
The reason the AV cable doesn't work is that the FPV goggles that the PowerPlay is designed to work with have a non-standard pinout. If you search for Fat Shark AV cable, you might find what you want. Or this one has worked for me in the past: 3.5mm to RCA, Qaoquda 90 Degree Angle 3.5mm 1/8" TRRS Stereo Pulg Male to 3 RCA Female Jack Adapter Cable-6 inch I'm leaving off the link in case it triggers spam protection. The Amazon product URL ends in gp/product/B01LAJTTBU
For reference, the 3.5mm 4-pole headphone plug that goes into the ImmersionRC PowerPlay and Fat Shark goggles is wired like this from tip to base: Audio L (tip) Audio R Video GND (base)
I'm not sure if it is an issue with the Power Play or my computer but all the footage I export stretches out into 3:2 aspect ratio rather than 4:3. It is easy to compress it back to 4:3 but is very time consuming. I was wondering if you knew a way around this?
Great vids cheers mate! 👍 Quick question.....is there any advantage to this over the standalone recorders like digitnow and clearclick? Is the pic quaility better? Thanks again!

I use a ccd trv-16 camcorder and it only has the yellow and white video and audio plugs and not a video/audio plug. I was wondering if a headphone jack to rca splitter would work if not could you recommend some alternatives?

I used this power play on my hi8 cam, when I record footage onto the power play it doesn’t seem to transfer to SD card do you know what I’m doing wrong?
