This is the first, and most overlooked, animated series from the award-winning creative team of Chris Prynoski and George Krstic.

I've went through the "im not like other girls" phase and as much as i commend people for not coping out to be popular/get with guys, Jen's comment's twords others are way too personal for it to just be about her social standing. Like you cant possibly justify her stalking someone to the point were they starting panicking 😭 or how shes just so negative when Alex wants to do something good for himself. Shes so insecure and its obvious.

Jen reminds me of a friend my bf had, they were friends before me. She was always jealous and hating on every girl he was friends with. She told him he better not fall in love with me when him and I became friends. It was obvious she was in love with my bf lmao.

god I love this show. Despite not being American, the dialogue reminds me so much of how my friend group talks to each other, and the urban setting really just tops that off. Wish there was more episodes so badly

Yeah when Jen is in the comic shop she lets her real feelings about Alex slip. Its also funny because she puts herself through Hell because of her jealousy. I actually like Jen but there's so much self loathing, and I'm not sure why.

@@goodgod326 Lot of stuff, like how she'd been watching him stalk Serena for 20 min. If she's not into him why is she watching him stalk another chick for 20 min? Also, when she walks into the comic shop Minus immediately asks if she's looking for Alex and she's like, its not like everything in my life is about Alex. She's clearly into him.
Also, She got super jealous of Serena and spent the entire episode stalking her. She never actually says she's into Alex cuz she's kind of waiting for him to grow up a little bit but like the limo episode kind of brought out the sexual tension
Anyone else notice that britpop is almost always playing when Serena is on screen? I really thought they would play goth music but the went the completely opposite direction lol.

Unfortunately yeah. I genuinely do think that Serena is an actual Goth character because at the very least, she name dropped a goth band (Dead Can Dance, even though they only ever released one actual goth album) and I later learned that they do kinda parody Sisters of Mercy in episode 4 where Serena mentions liking a band called "Brothers of Creation". So it's clear the writers at the very least did a little research on goth and tried to have Serena be seen as a real goth.
That said I agree with you and BlamBlarson, they should've played some goth music for her in her scenes, it's not like they couldn't since they were able to get all kinds of alternative music in the show. Whether it was something from the 80s like Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Clan of Xymox, or The Mission or the 90s like Switchblade Symphony, The Frozen Autumn, The Wake, or Love Like Blood.
It's pretty much the same missed opportunity that happened in Daria with the character Andrea who was supposed to be a goth as well. They didn't play any goth music for her during her scenes neither.
The lizzy scene is actually one of the original stories from the Pilot. They split and distributed the whole pilot into the main series.
Funny how no one comes for Chaka for the way she disregards others, like Lizzy, but you guys call out Jen…hmmm

Literally, all of Alex’s friends are horrid. Wow
I love 'em honestly, but they do have their flaws. Serena- really has it in for nerds like everyone else, judges Alex's clothing but doesn't like being judged for hers. Jen- always sarcastic and jealous, and almost never supportive, judges his tastes in women Goat - actually bought shit with Alex's card and even let Serena take his couch in ep.1, super sleazy His nerd friends - drooling disgustingly over Serena and openly staring at her like a piece of meat while bonding over their objectification of her.
Minus (Fruitys blonde friend) actually is one of the better characters. They're not all completely bad but they can be annoying.

it would be better if Alex had more balanced friendships. He only has Jen to share his plans and grievances with, but she is toxic and annoying most of the time. The ones that are not toxic or annoying are just indifferent. Would be nice to see him having a good time with someone more similar and empathetic
right like they find comfort in each other because they have miserable lives but Alex taking an interest in Serena you can see he wants to break out of his shell and that she brings him a new happiness but because of Jens insecurities she projects her baggage onto him which is quite sad

Damn this has so many interesting characters other than the main cast .Such as Lizzy,those 4 nerds,that security lady from the "Testing" episode who happened to be Goat's high school friend,Serena and Matt's boss,and Alex's boss.Its a shame the show ended far too early because I really wanted know more about these characters

@@cruezilla Chaka is annoying or doing something horrible in just about every scene she's in. Jen can be abrasive, but she's never horrible like Chaka.
@@cruezilla Grown woman? She's an adult yes, but she's, like, in her very early twenties. Chaka is 17. There isn't that much of an age difference, and even if there was, I don't think Chaka should should get a free pass for being a jerk just because she's young.
And you must have a very unique definition for the word "sometimes" if you think that accurately describes the amount of times Chaka is annoying. Chaka is annoying all the time, which would actually be fine if her annoying personality were in any way entertaining, but it isn't because in order to like an annoying character there have to be other things about them that compels the viewer to like them, but her annoying, rude, and selfish personality is all there is.
Jen, on the other hand, while she can also be annoying, rude, and selfish, has some of the best and funniest lines in the show imo, and just doesn't come off as mean-spirited and self-centered as Chaka despite constantly complaining about all the things and people she hates.
I actually hate Chaka more than Jen, Chaka is just an asshole to Alex and uses him constantly. At least Jen looks out for Alex and hangs out with him.
@@cruezilla That's honestly not a good excuse, a lot of people get along with their siblings just fine. Like sure, problems may arise but blood is always thicker than water. I actually think all the characters are equally bad, they each have their best and worst moments but that's what makes this show so damn relatable.

I am guessing that's where a lot of bullying comes from
projecting, sublimating, and grappling with their own issues with the feelings that they are mocking in another person. SO not only does that not actually deal with any of their emotions, they also make it worse for the person who might Really need help
it might make it more understandable, but it also makes it look so much more ugly, they could bond with the person they see who recognizes their pain, but they choose to mock them to distance themselves from those feelings, or convince themselves they have

the irony of everyone hating Jen and calling her toxic when really she’s just insecure. and they say you hate in others what you really dislike about yourself. she’s not a bad person, she’s just insecure in herself and relies a lot on her male friend. In reality as soon as she gets more distance from him, she’d grow as a person because she’s not constantly feeling rejected by the main guy in her life.
Exactly. Jen suffers from insecurity that stems from her weight and how her life is going which isn't all that fulfilling for her but she's stuck in her misery and uses sarcasm as a shield. I'd like to believe had the show kept going, we would've got to see Jen open up about her insecurities, like further then she did in the Limo episode.
So? Jen's insecurity does not excuse her from her actions. She is constantly tearing down another woman. For her, most women are sluts just because they are pretty or hot. I understand, insecurity goes hand by hand with jealousy (in many cases), and I know this because I think that sometimes too, however, we shouldn't excuse our jealousy just because of our lack of self-esteem. If you do that, it can start to turn into gratuitous hate and we don't want that. As for Chaka, she is also wrong, but she showed us in a few moments that she doesn't hate all women freely and just because. In that fight episode, she said: “I’m not going to fight with you because of him”. Of course, at first she wanted to create a situation with the other girl, but then she understood that it wasn't a good way to go. I don't see Jen doing that. In fact, even when Goat and Alex found out what she was doing, she was still trying to get mad at Alex for saying he got into a fight with a psycho. Jen needs to work on herself and understand that it's not the other women's fault. This is coming from someone who, when I have hateful thoughts about myself, I start to hate everyone (internally), as if my misery is everyone's fault, when it isn't. (Some people that crossed my path have something to do with it, yes, but not those I don't even know. I know it's not easy, but that is the right thing to do).

It was mostly because Jen felt like she was losing her best friend. It seemed to be apparent that Jen doesn't have many other friends besides Alex and when she noticed how head over heels he was for Serena, it made Jen feel like she was gonna lose the only person she can stand to be with.
