Recently updated to Mac OS Monterey. First thing I noticed was that three-finger drag and drop no longer worked. After watching your video. I was immediately able to enable three-finger drag and drop which I had been accustomed to using in previous OS versions. Before watching you video, I thought the trackpad preferences were where to find the proper setting. You pointed me to the accessibility preferences! Thanks!
sorry to be off topic but does someone know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
This video is a life saver. My laptop's trackpad is currently unable to click and whilst I'm set to have it fixed in a few days time and have found a setting to be able to tap to click, I've been completely unable to drag. Thanks :D
"I wish I had more time to write a simpler video." THANK YOU for taking the time to produce an elegant approach to instruction. You have a special gift and have helped me find the drag-and-drop trackback accessibility I may not have found alone. We can't do it alone... Right?
Just got a new Air and was going nuts not being able to do the simplest drag and drop. Bumbled around til I found your video and now can drag and drop like a boss! You simplified the options and techniques so well. THANK YOU! (ps. Apple, it wasn't broken so WHY did you "fix" it? LOL)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I couldn't figure out why I suddenly couldn't drag and it was driving me NUTS. It took me a while to stumble upon this video. I had to enter my OS (Big Sur) and that FINALLY worked to lead me to this tutorial. I cannot thank you enough! (I'm into the three-finger drag as well, thanks for the tip.)
This helped a bunch, i needed to be able to drag a file and scroll with it while still dragging, at first i started using 3 finger commands, i changed those to 4 fingers and then nothing would happen when i would hold a file and add 2 fingers to scroll
Works basically the same in Ventura 13.3.1 with the Magic Trackpad 3 and my M2 Mini, thanks for a brief but clear instructional vid! Earned a sub from me :)
thank you sm!!!! I watched multiple videos and it still didn’t work to the point i thought there’s something wrong with it , once i tried your method it worked immediately!
Leave it to Apple to make that option somewhere besides where it should be -- on the TrackPad control panel. Geeze. Nice video. I would have never found this on my own.
Great video - but on my 14" M1 MacBook Pro, I can click and drag with one finger - thumb not required. And this is the way I've been doing it for years. As far as I can tell, there are no other differences between these 2 methods, except that the thumb method requires the thumb to be kept on the touchpad while the finger moves the item around and can be lifted off the touchpad until ready to release the object by lifting both the thumb and finger, and the finger-only method requires the one finger to be kept on the touchpad while it moves the item around until ready to release the object by lifting the one finger. Am I missing something?
I’m trying to click and drag a sound file from fl studio to a new window open with another software mpc beats window closes as soon as I click the sound file in fl studio? How can I change this setting new to macbook
This was incredible, thank you. The problem I have now is when I use 3 finger drag to drag a file to another folder, it automatically opens that folder as opposed to simply dropping the file in it. Thoughts?
Sounds like to have the spring loaded folders option on. To turn it off or increase the delay Go to System Settings/Preferences > Accessibility > Pointer Control. There is a Spring-loading checkbox and delay slider.
I don't have "Enable dragging" toggled on. Yet, I just tap on a window's top bar and simple drag it anywhere. I'm new to Macs and I quickly discovered that on my own. I guess that its been made a default feature just recently.
@@TheMacU Just toggled on then off. I can still one click and drag any window. However, I should specify that it isn't a light tap. I can't just "touch" it with a light tap and drag. It's an _ever so slightly,_ tad bit more than a light tap; but still not a click... and that allows me to drag windows with a single tap. If this is a bug then it's a persistent one. Anyhow, I appreciate the ease of it and like it this way but will still give the 3-finger drag a try.
I have a problem with it, in my Mac air m3 i chose "drag without lock" but it takes time to release the window, means it dosent work it still locks the window and i have to wait for few sec until it release the window.. can anyone solve this problem?? Please.. thanks in advance..
Plz help!!! Evreytime I try to drag these files to my program files folder it shows the general prohibition symble over the cursor i dont know what to do plz help
I am trying to organize bookmarks in Safari and I am literally stuck on dragging them to be able to move them to a folder. I tried everything in this video but it works for everything else but not the bookmarks.
Something as simple as click and drag should not be overly complicated. Single click and drag is not on by default. Who would think to press three fingers to drag?
How is it possible to show live movement of your hand on trackpad in a rectangular box and at the same time finder window is dragging. How can you record this???
It's in System Preferences. Now System Settings in macOS Ventura. If you don't know what System Preferences are or how to get there you really need to sign up for a membership here... themacu.com/details/
Crystal clear with zero time wasting. All instructional videos should be like this!
Seconded!
I don't think I ever would have found this option in Accessibility on my own. Excellent video! Thanks!

Oh my goodness THANK YOU!!!! I couldn't understand why I stopped being able to drag with my trackpad! I so appreciate you sharing this!

I searched the web pages but didn't find any solution. Your video indeed gave me a quickest solution. Thank you very very much.
This video has saved me incalculable amounts of suffering, thank you!!!
haha good to hear!
Thank God I stumbled upon your video. I had not been able to use my trackpad for weeks and had to resort to troublesome bluetooth mouse. TQVM!
This is so good! We're trying to teach seniors how to use the track pad and it's so hard for them to do two finger gestures. Thank you.
Thank you so much, that really helped.

Not sure why this tip isn't widely shared but thank you very much, this helps a ton!

Thank you! Got a new mac and could not find how to activate this! Three finger drag should come as standard!
thank you sm!!!! I watched multiple videos and it still didn’t work to the point i thought there’s something wrong with it , once i tried your method it worked immediately!
This made my transition to Mac a whole lot easier.
Oh my goodness, I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out way I couldn’t drop and drag. Thank you so much!!!!
that was really helpful. concise and clear.
Glad it helped!
Thanks! You’re a life saver.
my enable dragging wasn't clicked and it was driving me absolutely insane. Thanks for the simple video...not life saving but sanity saving.
This is so helpful! Thank you. My trackpad click is now broken. This saved the laptop.
Thank you! I had to come into the YT app just to make sure I liked this video! lol
Thanks a lot
Just got a new mac
I am from windows background
Not been able to drag and drop using trackpad
Great tutorial. Very clear instructions
This video deserves to have billions of views
Leave it to Apple to make that option somewhere besides where it should be -- on the TrackPad control panel. Geeze. Nice video. I would have never found this on my own.
3-finger drag should be enabled by default. I hope new Mac users discover this feature quickly, it's such a godsend.
I agree. My click is broken on my 2013 MacBook. This saved it.
Very helpful. Thanks!
This saved my time worth sub.
Thank you man. I was about to take out my brand new MacBook because it kept clicking the link and opening it instead of dragging 🤣
oh! it was tap then drag thanks!
Thank you so much! Why on earth did they change the standard config? ^^
stellar video!
Great tutorial. Thanks so much! It solved quite a few issues I was experiencing.
I have a new Apple M1 Airbook and I cannot get the "TAP once to grab the window for CLICK WITH DRAG LOCK" feature to work.
THANK YOU SO MUCH 😊😊
Super helpful! Much Appreciated 🙏🏼
thanks
Great instruction! Clear in presentation, voice and visuals -- FIVE stars, my friend :-)
thank you! really clear
That's what I am looking for. the 3 fingers drag is easier way.
So thankful for this!
Thanks Much!!, After Big Sur upgrade dragging stopped working.
Glad it helped!

Thats probably a bug. I would try turning one of the enable dragging options on and then off.

I am trying to organize bookmarks in Safari and I am literally stuck on dragging them to be able to move them to a folder. I tried everything in this video but it works for everything else but not the bookmarks.
Mine doesn't stay in place when I move it, how do I fix this?

thank you, this was making me crazy until i found your video. why do apple hide things away from us?!
Good question!
Good question. I even posted on reddit but I wasn't able to find an solution. I will try this after work

How is it possible to show live movement of your hand on trackpad in a rectangular box and at the same time finder window is dragging. How can you record this???
I recorded my hand on the trackpad with an iPhone. Then overlaid it in Screenflow which is the screen recording app I use for the tutorials.
@@TheMacU Great! Thanks for the info...
why cant i drop lets say a photo to another place in desktop, I can move it but can drop it that specific loc, pls help me with this, thanks so much
Right or control click on the desktop and uncheck "use stacks". That should let you place files and folders wherever you want on the desktop.
@@TheMacU Thanks so much, sorry just my first time
Why they would not put these settings (or repeat them) in the trackpad settings is beyond me. Theyre basically hidden from the logical user.
Never told me how to get there. U just jump into it
It's in System Preferences. Now System Settings in macOS Ventura. If you don't know what System Preferences are or how to get there you really need to sign up for a membership here... themacu.com/details/
That's how apple must know how they fucked up - when someone creates a manual to set a previous gesture/shortcut
The fact I have to look up a tutorial for such a simple feature like this shows how nonsensical some of their products are
Honestly this is fuckin ridiculous
thanks a lot, this is very helpful
Glad to hear that!
