Outstanding video! Your instructions are wonderfully explained, including the reasons why you prefer certain options over others, your speed of going through the steps is not rushed or too slow, and your voice is very pleasant. Thank you for taking the time to make this content so concise and enjoyable!
As a gift to myself in my decrepitude, I decided to go all-in on Apple hardware. Excellent videos like this one make learning the new ecosystem a joy. Thanks!
hiii ofc the comments said it all, its gonna be a wonderful video, i jus nw gt my dads mac to myself, haha.... bt the thing is, the trackpad clicking seems too hard fr me and also my fingers r paining nw!! will, all these tips help with that?? also, i have an old 2014 mac??
This was tremendously helpful, very clear and comprehensive! My mouse has been part of my hand for so many years, and I've been trying to adapt to the trackpad--your video inspired me! Thank you!
Fantastic tutorial, I’d honestly try and give some feedback but man you’ve nailed a perfect tutorial. Also love how you screen recorded it so it looks even better than just having recorded the actual screen. Top notch video and it’s helped me a lot 10/10 :).
Thank you! Just got my first MacBook pro and I was having a hard time. Seeing how you do the gestures and your explanations helped a lot. My Air didn't have this kind of trackpad and I mostly use mice at work or the touchscreen on my iPad and iPhone.
Very helpful. Going from my older trackpad to the force touch pad has been interesting. On a whole, your overview of all the general options is really great. Thank you.
My mouse died, and I was thinking about upgrading to a Magic Mouse 2, but after watching this incredibly informative video, it looks like the trackpad is all I need. I never knew the trackpad had so many features and options. Very helpful! Thanks!
I liked this video very much, thanks a lot. Actually I am using Windows Desktop and will be getting Macbook in a few days, so, I was just understanding how a Mac actually works - features, Desktop, gestures, etc. I would be very thankful if you make more such videos on basics of macOS......
Thank you o much since i had a very conflict in my mind to not to buy a mac since you have to press instead of tap and now I learned that its optional! Thank you again!
Thanks - this was an excellent overview. I bought this laptop about a week ago and find it very difficult to drag files from one folder to another - even dragging a file into Apple TV, is an effort. I am using all Trackpad settings as you have them in your video. Is there something I am missing? I used an old MacBookPro (2012)
Glad you liked it. Try turning off the force click options and it should help. I started running into issues too and unfortunately had to turn off the force click. Let me know if it helps.
I have a bit of trouble because my bigs hands lay on it so I have had to turn off tap to click which has always been my favorite. I might have to return it because my thumb palms are always moving the cursor around. Wonder if a lot of large handed people have this issue.
Btw Dan will u be doing accessories for Macs? I will like to know what you think that’s useful since all new Macs now have discarded most ports. Thank you
Amazing. I was struggling to figure out Force Click with one finger and didn't even see the dropdown arrow for the three finger tap I am more familiar with. Thanks!
Is it possible to scroll up and down with one finger instead of two fingers? If so then I might consider buying a MacBook. Currently I have an iPad with a keyboard case and I find scrolling with two fingers extremely annoying since I already suffer with wrist pain and use of two fingers puts strain on my wrist.
Any tips for moving items across the screen when you come to the edge of the trackpad, but you need to go a bit further. I sometimes use a second finger. It works sometimes, but can occasionally trigger one of the swipe or zoom functions.
I was hoping you would show how to highlight text and how to move a document from one place to another. Also, using the track pad, how do you move a window from one place to another or resize a window or a text box? Thanks.
Resize is just click and drag the Window from a corner. Moving documents is click and drag the document where you want and then release. Highlighting text is also click and drag over the text then release when you want to stop.
Hi! Great video, thank you! Is it normal if, sometimes, my trackpad is like... holding my click? I'm trying to make footages on FinalCutPro, and it's really different if we compare to my 2013's one.
Boy just got my first Mac air and have been using Apple products for years, ie phone iPad and found so easy. But boy my fist day with the Mac….. I have an headache. These tutorials are good, but so much to take in.
Hey I need a quick opinion So I’m a new Mac OS user and when I’m switching between apps using the 3 finger swipe method the screen sort of stutters like it’s not a smooth transition. Does anyone know the reason for this and how I can solve this .
Click on the file, hold the click down and drag with the same finger. If it doesn’t work, it’s the force click options getting in the way. I had to turn them off for this reason.
Great video. However, I did not see anything about highlighting text. My old Macbook Pro would allow me to double tap and highlight what i want without holding the trackpad down. On my current Macbook Air, it does not seem to have this option. It will highlight one word with two finger click, and a paragraph with a three finger click. Anyone have info regarding this, I'd love to know!
Is there anyway I can make the trackpad easier to click? Like I have been through all the trackpad settings but there still is no right settings for me to click easier. It hurt my hands when using the trackpad.
How does it hurt your hand? Which MacBook and year is it? For me it’s so easy to click that sometimes it clicks when I don’t want it to. Setting tap to click would make it a tap and that’s as easy as you can get
Not sure there is much else you can do. You don’t need to use force tap though just click normally to click. Force click is just for the specific force click options.
I accidentally activated something that gives me an enlarged text of whatever my pointer is highlighting. This is a 2013 MacBook Pro, Big Sur 11.6.8. How do I get rid of this? Thank you.
This is actually one the best videos on youtube, as far as the trackpad of mac is concerned. Google should give a rank 1 to this content.
Thank you. Really appreciate the kind words and l'm glad it helped you out.
Windows user here - Never used a Mac before so I watched this before my MacBook arrived and it helped a lot. Thanks 👍

Great video! I am a mac user but recently got the macbook pro 13 and can't figure out how to drag a file in Finder to another folder. Help please
If you can’t drag normally it’s probably the force click getting in the way. Try turning it off and then drag. I had to turn mine off

Just curious to know why would you not prefer 'tap to click' feature ? Does it not makes it easy to navigate?
To easy to tap when scrolling and moving the cursor. I just feel I have more control with click.
Very informative thank you so much!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!

Currently I have an iPad with a keyboard case and I find scrolling with two fingers extremely annoying since I already suffer with wrist pain and use of two fingers puts strain on my wrist.
There are ways to get it do that like setting key modifiers or scrolling tools can be installed. You would have to look them up though.
Any tips for moving items across the screen when you come to the edge of the trackpad, but you need to go a bit further. I sometimes use a second finger. It works sometimes, but can occasionally

How to change the size of window through trackpad...?

I'm not sure what you mean by tap to hold? Can you give me an example?
Is it the same for the newest MacBook Air?

can you use the trackpad pressure sensitivity for photoshop?

TrackPad can set with three finger drag in Accessibility/Pointer Control. That's big deal when you drag a lot.
When dragging files/folders to another HD why do the files open and not drag?
Have to turn off the force click feature it gets in the way.
